Back in the swampland again

Hellooooooo 😀 Happy Humpday! We’re back in V-town, had a full night’s sleep (complete with crazy dreams) and my zombie-like state has vanished. I feel pretty normal today, which is bueno 😀

Thanks so much for your kind words on the Glamour article!!!! <3

On the ride back to Valdosta, the pilot stopped at Quizno’s and I ran into Winn Dizzle for some fruit.

I got cantaloupe:

006

Strawberries:

007

A little while later, I had this Larabar, which is one of my favorite flavors.

001

Pretty soon thereafter, we saw the Georgia state sign and then this:

002

We came back to the casa, were showered in puppy kisses and then fell asleep on the couch until about 6:15pm!!!! It felt goooood and was much-needed after our insane red-eye flight to Jacksonville.

My afternoon meal was a smoothie (frozen nanner, chocolate brown rice protein, hemp milk, raw cocoa powder, sea salt, cinnamon and Stevia)

003

And two TJs figs:

004

After our nap, we hit up the gym and I did 50 easy minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes of shoulders, chest and triceps. Going to the gym was TOUGH because I had taken 3 days off while we were in Tucson. I haven’t done that in years… seriously. I always work out 5-6 days each week and after the additional aerobics classes I taught last month, my body was in need of some serious R&R. I felt achy and tired, which are huge signs that the body needs a break, so I did it. Now I’m ready to continue teaching injury-free and do some weekend long runs. I’ve got a half marathon coming up 😉

For dinner, we had a Tucson-style meal.

Frijoles:

006

Veggies (1 small sweet onion sautéed with 3 cloves garlic and seasoned with 1/2 ts cumin, 1/4 ts chili powder, sea salt and pepper. Then I added 2 chopped zucchinis and a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies and simmered for about 15 minutes)

 005

And green corn tamales that nana and the madre hooked us up with:

007

(One of the pilot’s carry-ons was entirely food! Tamales, tortillas, chorizo, TJs goodies…)

It was quite a delicious little feast 😀

Hope you all have a wonderful day! See ya after lonchi <3

xoxo,

G

Congrats on the Glamour feature! (Sorry I'm a little late…) I like the flavor suggestions that you gave… I'll have to try that next time since I don't like movie theatre popcorn.

The tamales look so good… I'm embarassed to admit that I've never had tamales before!

You just inspired me to go grab some delicious cantaloupe! I loved your Glamour suggestion, I keep meaning to buy nutritional yeast but can't seem to locate it at our regular grocery store or commissary in NC. I am glad you are back home and feeling great – you were working yourself so hard with the three classes a day, I am sure your body deserved and craved a few days off.

Welcome home! It looks like you had such a wonderful vacation. I'm super jealous – I wish I could go home and see my fam and besties to banish the homesickness blues every now and then but it's been two years 🙁

You're so lucky your fam are so supportive. I definitely get the "is she insane/anorexic/OCD" looks and comments when I try to be healthy around certain friends and fam. Lucky girl!!

Oh and congrats on the glamour feature! Yay!!

Frijoles and tamales look aaaamazing!!!! I am so impressed with how in-tune you are with your body; you always seem to listen to it and know when to take a break. That's a serious talent, you know!

I've loved reading about your Tucson trip. I grew up in Tucson, but haven't been back in about 7 years. Holy cow, has it been that long! I told my husband, when we do go there, it's going to be the food tour of Tucson! New England does not know how to do Mexican food. Let's just leave it at that.

  27. Erin of Care to Eat on August 12, 2009 at 5:14 pm

I'm SO glad you took 3 days off. If you haven't done that in years it's probably much needed!!!
Key Lime Pie is my favorite flave. 🙂 So yummy!
Have a great day jean jean. I've called you that in my head for awhile now and I'm just now coming out!

  28. Veganissexy on August 12, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Ooooh the beans and veggies look right up my ally :0 Woohoo for some mexilicous eats! I just made tofu rancheros and they were yummmooo! Love the glamour piece….yours truly was just in a magazine too 🙂 We are on the same wavelength today I guess!

  29. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 12, 2009 at 8:44 pm

Your smoothies always look so yummy! Do you use Sun Warrior, Jay Robb, or an otherwise unnamed chocolate brown rice protein powder?

Good luck on your half-marathon…I saw you wove that in there! I didnt know you were for-sure gonna do it, just thought it was a strong possibility. The Disney half? I did a half there about 5 yrs ago..so, so much fun. Disney makes even 13 miles seem super fun the whole 13. You go girl!
