BFD girls’ night

Hellooooo! Happy almost-Friday! Hope you’re had an amazing week so far. It has been a bit of a crazy one over here, but I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend and slowing down a bit.

After some days of heat and mugginess, we were pelted down with rain yesterday. The girls still are still fascinated by the rain, even though they’ve seen more of the “wet stuff that falls from the sky” in the past four months than they have in their entire lives.

Watching the rain

(P is totally wearing shoes OUTSIDE of the her jammies. #toddlerfashion)

We’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with Ariana this week, and taking her to some of our favorite Valdosta spots. We’ve also enjoyed time here at home, watching Netflix and baking cookies. It’s been pretty amazing.

Also, I hosted a fun girls’ night the other night. The theme: Breakfast for Dinner.

Birdies cheese board

(Cheese board works with all meals)

Cooking Club meets once a month, and I happily offered to host it at our house. When I tried to think of beverage options for the get-together, two critical things came to mind: Bloody Marys and mimosas.

I set out champagne for the mimosas: (OJ was in the fridge)

Mimosas

(+ necessary drink markers)

and put together a Bloody Mary bar so friends could customize their own drinks.

Worcestershire (I can never spell that right… and in my mind I call it “Worst” sauce), Cholula, cold Bloody Mary Mixer (from Trader Joe’s, spiced up with a little lemon juice, lime juice, and garlic powder), Tito’s, lemon and lime slices, skewers (with stuffed green olives, pepper jack, cornichons, pickled veggies, and cheddar), celery, and slices of bacon.

When everyone RSVPs for Cooking Club, they’re usually assigned a meal component, like “side,” “appetizer,” “salad,” “dessert” or “main dish.” Since we were doing Breakfast For Dinner (aka BFD), we kept it super simple: sweet, savory, or main dish. The idea is to make something new or different, or create your own recipe, so it’s actually “cooking club” instead of just “eating club.” I broke this rule and made a tried and true staple: Nana’s egg casserole. I mean, how could I not?! It’s basically the best breakfast creation ever.

I managed to snap a quick (=unattractive) pic of one of my plates:

Breakfast for dinner

There were so many great foods to choose from -scrambles, casseroles, breads, muffins, parfaits- and everything was so good.

We had a great time laughing, chatting, and drinking endless cocktails around the dining room table. I kind of got out of the hostess-ing game while we were in San Diego -there was just so much going on with being pregnant, having a reflux baby, and medical ish– and it feels so great to have people over again! I’m lucky to know so many awesome ladies here in V-town. <3

Oh ryan drink marker

(Oh, Ryan.)

What’s your all-time favorite breakfast recipe?! Please feel free to share some link love! Do you do book club, cooking club, or anything fun that meets on a regular basis?

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for stopping by the blog this morning.

xoxo

Gina

That cheese plate looks divine! I love savory breakfasts and my fave probably has to be this sweet potato hash with dippy eggs and some crispy bacon on the side! http://nomnompaleo.com/post/19886925277/sweet-potato-hash-with-fried-eggs

Love this idea!! It’s similar to the brunch I host, “Champagne Sunday”. I usually host & pick a theme (ex: McMuffins & Mimosas, Make your own Mini Frittata, Pancake Bar, Chicken & Waffles etc).

I create a google doc with suggested items for the theme & my friends sign up for what they wanna bring and/or cook at my place. The only rule is that everyone must bring a bottle of bubbly…it’s always a blast!

Btw…I finally tried your nana’s egg casserole…it was delish & it freezes well!

My mom makes an amazing sausage, egg, and cheese casserole for every single family holiday, and even though it’s nothing fancy, it makes me so soooo happy. It tastes like Christmas morning <3

Our ‘book club’ turned pretty much into ‘eating club’ and i love it. Although what you guys do sounds fun too! Each of us takes a turn hosting, and we just make dinner. We talk and laugh for hours, and maybe spend five minutes talking about the book that half of us rather haven’t read depending on how our month with our babies went 🙂
I never know what to make for breakfast, usually it’s toast with peanut butter. On my workout mornings I love to make this: http://hellyeahitsvegan.com/black-bean-brownie-smoothie/
Sounds weird, but it’s really good!

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2017 at 1:10 pm

hahah perfect! i love book clubs where you don’t really read the book and drink wine together 😉
i’ll have to check out that smoothie recipe!

Great idea! I love all things breakfast/brunch. My go-to is the Pioneer Woman’s French toast casserole- it is SO GOOD and super easy to make.

ahhh i need to check that out!

How did you get involved in a cooking club? Is it like a formal thing, or did you ladies just all decide to get together once a month to cook? This sounds so fun (and delicious)!

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2017 at 1:08 pm

it’s super informal! we just get together once a month to cook 🙂

  9. Babs on August 24, 2017 at 12:44 pm

I’m part of a cookbook club! We pick a different cookbook to cook from each month, then come together at the end for a big potluck with dishes from the book. So much fun!

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2017 at 1:08 pm

      ohhh that’s an awesome idea!!

    • Amanda on August 28, 2017 at 11:11 am

I second this idea! I was in a cookbook club that met quarterly, and it was awesome. I need to start or find one where I live now. Gina, you and your friends will love it.

That cheese plate looks amazing! As for breakfast, I tend to always go simple and just make a few eggs or some oatmeal. I never really try anything involved because mornings are just not my time of day. I need to try making some things in advance!

That looks like so much fun! I wish my girlfriends lived a little closer!

I cannot for the life of me find the recipe online, but my absolute favorite breakfast casserole is cubed croissants (I’ve definitely regular or whole grain), eggs, sauteed spinach + onion, half and half, dijon mustard, diced ham, and cheddar in the fridge overnight then baked in the oven until crispy. It’s SO good!

    • Fitnessista on August 27, 2017 at 9:56 pm

      that sounds ridiculously amazing.

My girlfriends and I have been doing a “dinner club” once a month for the past 5 years! The month it’s your turn you host at your host and do everything, drinks, dinner, dessert and all the clean-up. There are 7 of us so since you have 6 months off it never feels like a burden. I just moved across the country though and missed my first one since leaving. I need to get something going down here, but I need friends first. . .

    • Fitnessista on August 27, 2017 at 9:51 pm

ohhh i love that idea!! fingers crossed you find some dinner club-worthy friends soon <3
