It’s the best day of the year, girl

Come on, you know the song 😉

We just got back from an awesome hibachi dinner with some friends 😀

group

It’s my friend Jeni’s birthday (whoo hoo!), so we celebrated our birthdays together since mine was last week.

We went to Ichiban, which is a pretty delicious (for Valdosta) Japanese steakhouse.

I had an unpictured glass of Cabernet (sorry! Not like you’ve never seen me drink wine though, haha)

Soupie:

Salad with ginger dressing:

Veg:

SHRIMP!

We even got the “birthday special”, in which the servers bang on drums and sing a birthday song:

And a fruit boat!

That’s my kinda cake 😀

I had a blasty with everyone, even though I woke up 20 minutes before dinner. Let me explain….

Instead of my elliptical sesh as planned, my friend Ashley had an opening so I went to see her for an hour massage. I’ve been really tired lately and figured my aching back could use a rub. After the massage, a nutrition consultation with a new client, errands and training appointment, I still hadn’t eaten lunch, so when I finished up, I raced back to the casa to have some food before I could work out.

Since I didn’t fuel myself properly today, I was STARVING.

I had an Ezekiel English muffin with Earth Balance, maca and cinnamon:

An egg + 1 egg white topped with leftover chili:

And a huge salad:

It was quite scrumptious:

After I finally ate, I was even MORE tired. I could feel the toxins releasing from the massage and pair that with an enormous food baby, I decided to take a rest. I woke up two hours later :/

I’m usually excellent about feeding myself properly and snacking all day, but today’s hectic schedule and lack of planning messed me up a little. Lesson: 5 small meals a day, no matter what!

Time to crash out, wake up refreshed and ready to tackle a 7 mile tempo run.

Night, bloggies <3

xoxo,

Gina

*I promise to catch up on emails tomorrow! I haven’t forgotten about you, promise.

I just wanted to say that I love your blog! I stumbled upon it a few days ago and now you have a new admirer. haha! Seriously, though, you are such an inspiration. Quick question, what is maca and where do you get it? Is it a spice/herb or is it liquid form? What exactly would you say it tastes like? Okay, maybe not such a quick question, but if you would respond, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I have been noticing I get tired if I eat to much at one time, although some times I have no choice. I prefer to eat small meals throughout the day, but it is hard. Good luck on your run 😉

  13. Bridget on November 18, 2009 at 11:08 pm

You listened to your body and gave it much-needed rest, that’s never a bad thing!

    Whoops, wrong website!

  35. susan on November 19, 2009 at 3:08 pm

    hi gina!
i think i told you this already, but i’ve become a big fan of fitnessista ever since i came over to read mama pea’s guest post…

i have a kind of random question… i’m getting back into working out after becoming pretty much a total couch potato. i’m currently doing the 20 minute interval workouts per “body for life”… but i want to start doing more running (mama pea and i have vows to run a 5k together in the spring)… so obviously the 20 minute interval workouts aren’t going to cut it if i’m training for runs longer than 20 minutes…

i have read the “couch to 5k” workouts online, but wondered what you might recommend b/c i also want to incorporate some weights, which those workouts didn’t really discuss??

    thanks so much!

    • Fitnessista on November 19, 2009 at 3:17 pm

      hey susan,
thanks so much for reading my little blog!
i think the couch to 5k program is awesome, but if you’re thinking about including some weights, check out the summer shape up plan (under the workout tab). you could follow one of those plans and then do your running plan as the cardio portion??
      hope this helps a little!
      xoxo
