Bring on the “nice”

Hi friends 😀 How’s your day going? Hope it’s been lovely 🙂

It’s actually *nice* here today!

Meaning, we could eat breakfast al fresco without roasting our faces off

breakfast

[Leftover steak + eggs and English muffin for him]

pilot bfast

[1 egg + 1 egg white on toast with salsa and salad for her]

bfast

and I got to take my cardio outside!

Something about working out outdoors is so refreshing when the sun isn’t pelting down on you. 😉

I experimented with some Tabata intervals today, since they’re shorter and I figured it would be a fun way to switch things up. For those who aren’t familiar with Tabata, it’s a 4-minute set of intervals, 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, 8 times total. I did two sets within today’s cardio and was definitely a fan- I’ll be playing with it more 🙂

Snacks for the day:

snacks

We have a lot of errands to run, but first on the list was a trip to PetSmart for Bella supplies

petsmart

and to get her a new tag with our new address and info on there.

The front of the tag:

We figured that if Bella ever were to escape, the people who found her would most likely never give her back. She’d walk in shaking her tail, probably forget about us, and just be happy to have new friends. Sad, but true, haha. So we at least wanted everyone to know what her favorite food is 😉

We’re off to register for baby gear!

See ya later tonight <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Have you tried Tabata intervals? Here’s some more info if you’re interested. Mindy Mylrea also posts Tabata-style workouts on her YouTube channel (and she’s awesome).

Stay tuned: September Schweaty Cardio and Weights workout will be up in the am!

Ha! My little dog has been stolen from my mom’s yard twice. Apparently she lied around all depressed without us, but she’s seriously never met a stranger. Most useless guard dog ever. 😉

I love Bella’s new tag — what a cute idea!

The weather has been amazing here — kind of chilly in the morning which is great for running and I love when I need to wear a sweatshirt outside to stay warm. My favorite time of year!

I’ve never tried Tabata intervals…but they sound similar to HIIT, so I’m sure I would like them 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:48 pm

it’s definitely a method of hiit- the only difference is the set interval times

My dog, Harli, loves everyone! It is really hard to take her on walks where there are lots of people and dog friends along the way, because she is way more excited to meet them than they are to meet her. Everyone told us her “hyper puppy” syndrome would go away when she turned two, but now she is going on three! She is still a sweetie though, but a mighty big sweetie!

  5. Sana on September 5, 2011 at 6:12 pm

    Awww, bella would come back!!!

  6. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on September 5, 2011 at 6:18 pm

Cute tag! I feel the same about my dog, Jet. He is a choc lab and is seriously happy to see anyone! If someone would take him in, he would be happy as long as someone was giving him any kind of attention! 😉

  7. Hillary on September 5, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Yesss, I need a new weights workout, like, NOW!

  8. Maggie on September 5, 2011 at 6:22 pm

Tabata is the best! My gym actually offers it as an hour-long class, complete with the most amazingly awesome instructor ever. I’m kind of addicted.

And I *love* Bella’s tag! Adorable.

  9. TanyaS on September 5, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I took a weekly group class that was based on the Tabata method. Each week the intervals were a bit different, but used the same principles. LOVED IT. The class flew by and left me a sweaty mess every week.

  10. Jen on September 5, 2011 at 6:36 pm

My favorite spin instructor takes us through torturous Tabata intervals. I love it! I get super into it whenever be do Tabatas. Sweat literally pours from my body. TMI…?

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:48 pm

not at all! they’re definitely effective!

Registering for baby gear is SO MUCH FUN! Running around shooting stuffed animals with the price machine gun! We were lucky and received almost everything we registered for at showers, and hardly had to buy anything. Plus we had the first grandchild on BOTH sides of the family, so that worked in our favor. Enjoy!

    Love Bella’s new tag!

  13. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on September 5, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Oooh, I’ve been meaning to switch up my work out routine! A schweaty, fitnessista-inspired gym-sesh is exactly what I need! 🙂

That tag for Bella is seriously the cutest thing EVER! Tell Bella I have an entire chicken in my fridge, if she can get to PA, it is hers for the eating. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:47 pm

if bella ever saw your comment, she would find a way to PA 🙂

  15. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on September 5, 2011 at 7:06 pm

I LOVE that tag!! Good idea on the chicken thing!

I absolutely adore Tabata intervals and incorporate them in my own strength & cardio workouts, as well as the cycling classes that I teach. I added them in at the very end of my 1-hour class yesterday and a ton of my participants said that they loved it!

  16. kaila @ healthy helper! on September 5, 2011 at 7:08 pm

I’ve heard of tabata intervals but I didn’t really know what they were! I wanna read up on them though cause they definitely sound like a great way to mix up cardio! Thanks for the link!

  17. Sara on September 5, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I have tried Tabata intervals and still use them. ‘Fun’ is not what I’d describe them as, but it’s a great way to get a short, intense workout. I did my PT training in this amazing centre in England with a sprint track that was used by some very high-end professional athletes that were sprinters. They used Tabata training exclusively. So we would watch them for about 20 minutes just sprint/rest/sprint and in 15 minutes they were done. It looked easy… it’s not. The one I do lasts 12 minutes with the first and last 4 minutes designated warm up and cool down and the middle 4 minutes being a 20/10 split like you did. I don’t think you could have done a full sprint though in your current preggy state, yes? Or if you did, you are a little bit crazy (I mean that in a nice way).

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:47 pm

definitely not my normal sprint- it was more like a run/jog and i walked during the 10 sec breaks.

  18. Laura on September 5, 2011 at 7:40 pm

    That tag is awesome!

I’ve Tabata intervals in a spin class. Loved them! Definitely kicked my rear end.

  19. Leslie Wingate on September 5, 2011 at 8:08 pm

    What a nice breakfast!

I packed my snacks for work tomorrow earlier today and have the same larabar and seaweed. LOL I also went extract shopping today at our biggest store. No butterscotch, dang it. Butter extract….yes, but sans scotch. 😉 Finally picked up peppermint, chocolate, and coconut extracts. Fancy schmancy for a small town gal. 😀

Hope you enjoyed your Labor Day. Next one, you’ll have a sweet baby girl to share it with and a high chair pulled up to that table. <3

  20. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 5, 2011 at 8:23 pm

I can’t believe you did Intervals, pregnant, in Arizona in the late summer/early fall…you AMAZE me!!! Wow girl you are good!!!

That name tag is SO SMART. A friend of mine just lost her chihuahua. Very long story short, after 10 days she got a tip about her dog’s whereabouts and the woman who had her dog was actually getting ready to take the dog across the border to Mexico and sell it b/c it’s so cute. So good job on the name tag! Not that it’s a perfect prevention, but it’s helpful and you just never know. Smart thinking.

  21. Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) on September 5, 2011 at 8:35 pm

I’ve tried Tabata intervals at a spin class, and I loved it! they kicked my butt
    though.

What a cute tag for Bella! I dog-sat this weekend and that pup had never met me before– but was PERFECTLY happy to be with us! so strange, no loyalty at all!

  22. SaraRM on September 5, 2011 at 8:37 pm

I love tabata and love Mindy! I took a couple of her classes at Dallas Mania last weekend, shes crazy fun!

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:45 pm

i took classes from her last year at atlanta mania- she is a little fireball! i love her

  23. Laury @ thefitnessdish on September 5, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Awww love Bella’s tag! That should be Munchkins tag…my husband loves outback chicken and he knows it from the smell when he brings it home. They love to share

  24. Ida on September 5, 2011 at 9:46 pm

Tabata workouts are a crossfit staple, it’s crazy how fast they can wear you out. I think tabata push ups are the worst (in the best way possible).

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:45 pm

      whoa! that sounds intense!

  25. Katie @ Plates and Paste on September 5, 2011 at 9:47 pm

Haha that tag is awesome…let’s hope nothing ever happens to Bella though!

    • Fitnessista on September 5, 2011 at 11:45 pm

      i would cry forever!

  26. Emily on September 5, 2011 at 10:03 pm

Enjoy the cooler weather!! I was just getting used to a touch of fall weather and then the humidity came back in full force…its crazy how much it effects my outdoor exercise!

  27. Pam on September 5, 2011 at 10:05 pm

I’ve never heard of Tabata, but it sounds like something I need to try asap!
Bella’s new tag is super cute! My dog would do the same. Whenever we have company over, she pays attention to them the whole time and ignores us, until their gone. Feel the love, haha.

  28. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on September 5, 2011 at 10:13 pm

Haha I need to get my dog Max one of those tags too 😉

  29. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on September 5, 2011 at 10:16 pm

  30. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on September 5, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Oh my goodness! That tag is just too cute! I am sure that your Bella would miss you like craycray. I have never tried the Tabata intervals, but I just started p90x today! Should be awesome!

      oooh enjoy!

  31. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on September 5, 2011 at 10:47 pm

Haha! That’s the best dog tag ever. I wish I had thought of something clever for ours!

  32. Natasha on September 5, 2011 at 11:13 pm

Cute tag! We laugh about our Lab too. If a stranger were to offer her a cookie, she would go without hesitation and be happy! LOL! Hope you had fun registering for baby gear!

  33. avery on September 6, 2011 at 12:18 am

Crazy that you would write about Bella getting a new tag. Today, we got a call from my boyfriend mom. Here Boston Terrier, Lucy escaped and we went out to help her look for the dog. It was really scary, especially because Lucy didn’t have a tag on her collar with a phone number to call. Don’t worry, we found Lucy and she is safe at home : ) But a good reminder that all pups need a collar like the one you have for Bella.

    • Fitnessista on September 6, 2011 at 12:44 am

wow, that is so scary! i’m so glad that lucy is home safe

  34. andrenna on September 6, 2011 at 1:20 am

Oh man, I feel the same way about my fluffy white dog, Radio. If he was ever picked up, he’d happily live with another family. Which makes me think to myself *there’s no way I’m letting this dog out of my sight!!!*

  35. Anastasia on September 6, 2011 at 9:00 am

Haha! I love Bella’s tag! My husband & I always say the same thing about our dog.. if he ever got out no one would give him back and he’d be so darn excited to be around people he’d forget all about us. Maybe I should put how much he loves toys on his tag. :]

  36. Allie Q @ Fit Geek on September 6, 2011 at 11:35 am

I haven’t done Tabata in a while, but when I used to I’d always feel like I was going to puke. I kind of liked that though…it made me feel like I got a good workout, haha. I guess I’m a masochist.

  37. Amy on September 6, 2011 at 3:40 pm

I LOVE those TJS seaweed snacks!

Do you have any recipes for them? Im always looking for new ways to eat them!

  38. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 6, 2011 at 3:54 pm

I’m jealous it’s nice enough to eat outside there! It’s been so chilly here these past few days. 😛 But the plus side is that it’s really nice running weather!
