Can’t trust her

Oh hello, Monday. Definitely back into the swing of life over here!

After having a house hustling and bustling all weekend, back to just the girls: myself, Bell and Liv.

I caught Bella eating a piece of ice cream sandwich in the backyard this morning.. this worries me for two reasons: 1) we haven’t had ice cream sandwiches over here lately, or ever (I wonder if one of the neighbor kids threw it over here?) and 2) it was chocolate-flavored. You can’t take your eyes off that pup for a second- if it’s people food, she’ll eat it. The vet said she should be fine, but to watch her for any signs that her stomach is upset. She’s walking around like her normal Bella self for now …*fingers crossed*

Haven’t seen this bfast in a while:

bfast cereal2

Breakfast cookie dough cereal!

I just made the usual mix, with more oats and almond butter

bfast cereal

heated it up for a minute

and “borrowed” the berries from the leftover dessert tart.

tart4

(I’m glad the Pilot likes the crust part better than the berries and filling. Another reason why we’re soul mates)

No crazy plans for the day today, but I’m treating it as a Sunday to get groceries and meal plan for the week. Also hoping to get in a little workout since mom and nana will be over for a while- maybe a return to Turbofire??

Hope you’re having a happy Monday!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Favorite ab moves! I’m excited to be able to work out my core again, since it takes some time to heal after pregnancy/childbirth. Here are some of my current favorite ab exercises:

The inchworm

Stability ball roll out

Alphabet abs

Plank with hip dips

and a reader’s request post on Fab Abs.

Thanks for the abs moves! I always like to find alternatives to traditional crunches, bicycles, etc. Hope you have a relaxing “Sunday” and get to recover from your hectic weekend! And I hope Bella’s stomach doesn’t get upset.

That crazy little dog of yours! One amazing tip I was given a couple of years ago, which I use ALOT, is to give her a wee bit of pure pumpkin – it helps ease stomach upset and helps if she ends up with a case of scoots! I freeze a can of pure pumpkin into an ice cube tray and then thaw a cube as needed.

Aww, poor pup! I’m getting ready to get my first puppy! Any books you would recommend? Can’t wait to try those ab exercises! Thanks for the reminder about cookie dough oats!

I love the inchworm too! Hope Bella is okay…poor pup! My cats are the same, they’ll eat anything. When I found one of them eating a grape that had dropped on the floor I mentioned it to my vet who said, “don’t let him do that again; grapes can be toxic to cats”. Who knew??

  5. Caroline on February 27, 2012 at 12:43 pm

How weird to find ice cream sandwich in your backyard! Hope she’s okay!

Your poor little doggie. I have a little pup her name is Sassafras and she will eat anything too. We have to watch her so close, and have been to the puppy ER with a few times but we love her so much we don’t mind. 🙂

Just after Christmas, our dog got into a WHOLE BAG of lindt truffles! We had left him out in the house for aprrox. 20 mins and they truffles were in a bag, in a bag in the back of the christmas tree, when I came home and found the evidence! I called the vet and due to the amount he ate and what kind of chocolate it was, I had to give him hydrogen peroxide with the assistance of a turkey baster….eventually he got sick, poor little guy! If he sees a turkey baster now he goes off running!

  8. Britt on February 27, 2012 at 12:52 pm

Thanks for the exercises! I just inchwormed myself across the length of our house! 🙂 Nice break from the regular ab workouts

This weekend, I was at my parents, and their little Yorkie, Benny, snatched up an empty muffin wrapper from one I had just finished. Just the remnants of a blueberry muffin was too much for him to resist. Talk about a garbage hound! Why are they so naughty, yet so cute?

  10. Lisa on February 27, 2012 at 12:59 pm

Oh that little Bell – always up to something! I will definitely give the ab moves a try pretty soon. I’ve been looking for new things to do to strengthen my core and these sound like they will do the job.

I seriously don’t understand why dogs enojy eating thing they shouldn’t so much. I mean really, it’s going to make you sick!! My puppy enjoys romping around the yard eating up leaves and pine cones. Now she knows when I am coming over to take it out of her mouth, because she gobbles it up really fast! haha.

    Hey Gina!

I read your post linked to “Alphabet Abs” but I still don’t really understand how you do them. Is there any type of video or something that could give me a better idea?

    Thanks so much, Jess

Dogs just love chocolate for some reason, though it clearly hurts the tummy!! Hope Bell is okay!!

The Inch Worm exercise is quite entertaining to watch LOL

    Have a great day 🙂

Oh no, I hope Bella is ok!! Our dogs used to eat pretty much anything they could find and it always had me feeling nervous. I love stability ball roll-outs as well. Recently I’ve been doing them with hands on a foam roller instead of forearms on the ball – it’s a lot harder! A little tough on the wrists so I always make sure I’ve warmed up a bit before I do a few. I also love windshield wipers – either laying on the floor with legs up towards the ceiling, or hanging from a chin-up bar. Have a great afternoon Gina!

  15. Jen on February 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm

When ever I use onions, I get very nervous if a piece drops, my dog will eat anything too! My other dog was drinking a lot of water after I had hit some black ice and crashed my car into a tree with her in the back, so my mom thought she had internal bleeding rushed her to the animal er the 1st thing they asked was if she got into onions I guess there very bad for dogs, but it turned out my poor girl had cancer and had never showed signs till then.

  16. Britta on February 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm

I had bfast cookie dough cereal on Saturday for the first time in ageessssss! It’s so cold here in Minnesota during the winter that I’ve been defaulting to warm oats but the cookie dough is still my fav. Have fun with Chalene if you hit up the TF – ive been using the Sculpt 30 and Tone 30 classes as cross training in my 1/2 marathon plan but I’m really missing my favorite cardio DVDs (fire 45!!)

Dogs are so crazy! I always worry when mine eat stuff out in the backyard too. How does it get there? Hope Bell doesn’t get sick!

Yikes, that’s scary about the chocolate ice cream for a dog! If it’s not one thing, it’s the next, isn’t it. Pretty soon it will be baby-proofing the house along with the dog-proofing 🙂

Funny story… my Lhasa apso was sick recently and we got her all better. A few days later I went to feed her breakfast and she only ate half. This scared me because she has the mindset of “no food left behind”. I was panicking thinking something was wrong with her and I walked by the room where her new unopened bag of food was. There was a huge hole in the bottom of the bag and little bits of food everywhere. Her food bag did not get put on the shelf where it goes and so, of course she helped herself to it!! I was mad but also very relieved to see that she definitely wasn’t sick… other than the over stuffed feeling that I’m sure she was feeling!

LOL the cats I had as a child did this… they were twin kittens and they were 10 weeks old; we left the bag of kitten food in the kitchen, thinking nothing of it. (They were my family’s first pets.) That first day we left the food out overnight and woke up to full food bowls the next day; panicking, my mom called the vet…. we actually brought the cats allllll the way to the vet before my dad called us and said “Ummm they ate a hole in the food bag!” LOL!

I love ALL of those abs moves! They are actually the ones I use most often in my abs class and with my PT clients. 🙂

I enjoyed one of your cookie dough cereal bowls for breakfast on Saturday morning. I made it with sunbutter, and it was glorious!

  23. Kristen on February 27, 2012 at 2:36 pm

How much did you work the core during pregnancy? I know you cannot be on your back after a certain point, but other than that…? Thanks!
PS my CAT eats crazy stuff so I know what you’re dealing with!! 🙂

  24. Marie on February 27, 2012 at 2:43 pm

    Hi Gina!
I’m just curious- have you read anything that tells you what ab exercies are safe/OK post-pregnancy? or at what length of time it’s ok to start doing certain exercises again? I am 30 weeks pregnant right now and just planning ahead!! I’ve read that planks (and variations) are safe all throughout pregnancy and post, but I think that most “crunchies” or “situps” are not recommended….have you read this as well? Thanks!

  25. Kelly @ Vegolosophy on February 27, 2012 at 2:49 pm

I really want to try your cookie dough cereal, it always looks so yummy! Hoping Bella is ok, my dog go into cookies and chocolate once and I totally freaked out, but he ended up being just fine. Can’t take my eyes off him with any kind of food around 🙂

  26. Kerry @ Totes My Oats on February 27, 2012 at 3:18 pm

I can totally relate about dogs getting into any people food! My dog ate a remaining half a batch of brownies the other day that I left on top of the stove… yikes! Thank goodness he was okay.

  27. Ilana on February 27, 2012 at 3:40 pm

I was poking myself in the mirror the other day wondering why after all my ab work I still don’t have the washboard abs when I remembered that Pilates and yoga specifically target the transverse and not the rectus 😛 dork moment.
my favorite ab exercises lately are planks, forearm planks, side planks, one legged planks, one handed planks… My students told me I’ve been on a planking kick for a while. But theyre so awesome and so effective!

  28. Ali on February 27, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Our dog ate an entire 1lb bag of chocolate chips when he was a puppy. It just made him hyper for the day and he was already a hyper puppy!

  30. Talia @ Bite Size Wellness on February 27, 2012 at 5:06 pm

I’ve had my pup eat chocolate before and all was good. One time she got some chicken bones and that really worried me since the pieces can splinter! I am sure all will be fine for Bella. Thanks for the ab videos!

I was reading about inchworms just last night and couldn’t quite get my head around what the mag was saying (possibly because I was half reading, half watching tv but that’s not the point) – thanks for the clip, it all makes sense now 🙂

I love Turbofire!!! Are you starting from day 1? ! actually just started my first ever round of it. I am on day 6!

  34. Rachel on February 27, 2012 at 7:37 pm

So! True story: I left the house with my corgi for a walk one morning last week, and an ENTIRE ASIAN-STYLE CHICKEN LEG (thigh, drumstick, whole nine yards) fell out of the sky and nearly bounced off her face! She was thrilled — I mean, chicken from the sky, who wouldn’t be? — and I was like, “OMG, the neighbors are throwing chicken out their windows!” Because this enormous hunk of meat fell from the sky, what else would I think? Well, I looked up really quickly to catch whoever threw the chicken, and there was a very angry seagull up there gauging whether he could get his snack back from the 30-pound fur-monster on the ground. As far as I can tell, the seagull snagged it from an outdoor picnic or some trash, and just couldn’t fly with that unwieldy thing.

I did manage to keep the corgi away from the chicken. It was a pretty epic struggle though.

My husband thinks a seagull or pigeon or other scavenger may have been trying to abscond with the ice cream sandwich, and it melted out of their grip or was too unwieldy.

I’m loving the abs video. I will have to try the ABC Abs! I just moved to a new town and trying to get back into the groove. I just joined a gym and worked by buff off. That’s a start.

About the dog and chocolate thing – my friend’s dog has eaten (in the past six months) a Costco sized bag of toll house chocolate chips (she didn’t discover this till a day later when she found little pieces of the BAG in the back yard) and an almost entire 5 lb box of Godiva chocolates. She took him to the vet the second time and they flushed him with charcoal – the vet told her if it had been See’s candy he might be dead (?). He had a case of the runs and threw up once but that was it!
