Chefs in the kitchen

Whew! What a whirlwind of a morning. Up at 4:30 -I have no idea how that happened- to the airport, and here in LA after a few traveling adventures, of course. It feels like 5pm already 🙂

Before I set off for today’s events, I wanted to say a quick “hello” and tell you about last night’s dinner party.

It was a feast of all feasts, cooked up by the chefs and grill masters in the family:

(photo minus my madre, who reigns supreme as the grilling queen)

The Pilot wanted to have a night where my uncle and Kyle could teach him how to perfectly cook different types of meat, so last night was the night. Everyone brought over something different, and we enjoyed the amazing meal along with some margaritas and wine 🙂

Chefs 1 of 1

Fresh salad (greens, zucchini, squash, bell peppers and some homemade balsamic)

Salad 1 of 1 14

the most perfect ahi tuna,

Ahi 1 of 1 3

and enough meat for an army.

Grill 1 of 1

Plus pasta, fries, Nana’s Jell-o casserole,

and the infamous fruit pizza.

Brownie pizza 1 of 1 3

For the ahi tuna, my uncle added a spice rub of coriander and fennel, then topped with a thick layer on sesame seeds. He seared each side on the grill, and then cut into long medallions, drizzled with hoisin sauce and sriracha. Hands down the best tuna I’ve ever had.

And now with this post full of glorious eats, it’s time for this girl to track down some breakfast and maybe take a nap before tonight’s Physique 57 event 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful day! See ya later this afternoon.

xoxo

Gina

I have a question. So I was with my family for my grandfathers funeral this past weekend and when my nephew was acting up my sister in law (Who grew up in southern Florida) said “Say ‘yes ma’am’ with a good attitude.” I get that she is a southern girl so that is why she might have him say that but I was wondering will you guys have Liv say yes maam and yes sir. Do you think being a military family will affect your views on this? I know you lived in Valdosta for a while, did being there get you into this habbit? I am curious on different thought on this.

OMG I love tuna! My friends caught a huge one on a fishing trip last summer and we had the most epic tuna feast. Everyone just kept stuffing their faces with perfectly seared tuna and we even made our own sushi. NOM!

The Ahi Tuna looks amazing! I have not mastered cooking it at home yet. Mine always ends up chalky, white and chewy. ugh!

oh my gosh ahi tuna is hands down my favorite food! I only ever order it from restaurants, though, because I lack confidence in my ability to cook it correctly/as well as some of my fav places. I might have to show this to the bf and cross my fingers he gets the hint!!!

Ohmylanta, that tuna looks just divine.

I’m wondering though, do yall have trouble finding good seafood? I always take it for granted living on the coast, and then I travel and realize that it’s a lot harder to come by for folks who are landlocked.

  27. shelby on August 7, 2013 at 5:10 pm

Ohhhhh that grilled ahi looks DEVINE!

Ok, taking notes on that ahi tuna recipe! Sounds absolutely to die for! I’m still a little scared about cooking it myself because I always feel like I’m going to leave it too rare and make myself sick, but I’m absolutely dying to try this. Have fun at Physique 57!

Hope you’re enjoying my city! I was bummed that a last-minute commitment kept me from Physique 57 last night.

  37. Ush on August 8, 2013 at 11:26 pm

That tuna looks way too overcooked for my taste (I like it just seared on the outside) but I like the idea of hoisin and siracha!
