Chicken Fiend

Hi guys 😀 How’s your day going?? Mine has been bueno- today has been a little frantic because I’m making dinner for the commander’s familia.

The menu:

Chicken Enchiladas

-Mexican fruit and veggie salad (cucumber, strawberries, pineapple, jicama, bell pepper, tomato, red onion, lime juice and cilantro)

Chipotle-style Basmati rice with lime and cilantro

Chocolate chip gooey butter cakes with ice cream

For realz 😀

Check out who can smell the chicken roasting already:

bella

Doesn’t she look like a crazy obsessed chicken fiend?? Goofer 😀

I started off this morning with the usual bfast cookie dough cereal (skip the mashed banana, add more milk):

cereal

The star of the show was 1/2 a crumbled AllieBar that I traded some macaroons for at the Summit 😀

Those things are GOOD. Love that they’re a little salty, chewy and not too crumbly.

After bfast, I made the pilot some huevos and toast and went to Wizzle to fight for my sanity.

When I got back to the casa, I decided to break into these bad Johnnies:

raweo

Raw Chai Raweos!

I’ve had these before in Tucson, but couldn’t wait to try to try them again.

raweo (2)

Like a supersoft blonde Oreo, with a creamy filling and strong chai flavor. Lurve.

I’m off to get crack-a-lackin on the cooking for tonight, meet the girls for a smoothie, get my workout face on, train two clients and then take dinner over to the commander’s familia. I think I’ll save some for the Pilot, too 😉

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Gina

My thoughts on Eat, Pray, Love: After a glorious dinner at Bleu Pub last night with the girls, we went to go see Eat, Pray, Love, which I’ve been anxiously awaiting all summer. The verdict? It was really good, but not as fab as I thought it would be. I LOVED the book, but even with the beautiful scenery and perfect casting, it was missing something. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie that’s as good as the book, though 😉 Does that even happen??

Today’s workout jam: Please help a girl out on this one 😀 My iPod needs some sweet new songs- what are you loving right now??

    Hey Fitnessista!
I had the same feelings about Eat, Pray, Love. It was good but could’ve been better!! Some workout songs I love right now are:

    – I like that by Static Revenger
    – In For The Kill by La Roux
    – Hot by INNA
    – XXXO by M.I.A.

    Hope you like,
    Samantha

P.S. your my favorite blog and my inspiration to have finally started my own, Thanks 🙂

      thank YOU <3 😀

I def agree about Eat Pray Love. I feel like they didn’t capture enough of her emotional transformation… like, the audience could see it but what I really wanted was to FEEL it.

  3. Tina on August 17, 2010 at 3:01 pm

I just got EPL from the library. I was on hold for 5 months! I’m looking forward to reading it. I’ll probably see the movie when it comes to DVD. I always go in with lower expectations of movies from books. Then I usually end up pleasantly surprised by thinking it won’t be near good.

  4. Ilana on August 17, 2010 at 3:10 pm

that salad sounds mindblowing – pineapple takes EVERYTHING over the top.

I *never* go into movie renditions of books I love expecting it to be good – I usually expect it to be awful. That way I am not disappointed if it is, and at best am happy if it’s actually good. Of course I’m not going to lie, I haven’t read Eat Pray Love and I kind of don’t want to because EVERYONE says they love it, and somehow I always end up disliking the things “everyone” loves. Sigh.

Workout tunes – Mickey Avalon, “So Rich, So Pretty,” “My Dick” (I know), “Jane Fonda,” oh and Kanye West “Kanye’s New Workout Tape.” Anything Kanye, Jay Z, or the Black Eyed Peas. I’m all over it!!

  5. A on August 17, 2010 at 3:43 pm

Workout songs I love right now:
-“The Sound of Sunshine” & “Shake it”, both by Michael Franti 🙂

I saw Eat, Pray, Love last night and honestly thought it was really bad. The scenery was beautiful, but I had trouble sympathizing for someone who has enough money to support herself for a year abroad, has amazing experiences at all these places and meets interesting people, yet is still feeling sorry for herself throughout the film. I also thought her divorce wasn’t THAT bad (any divorce is bad, but there are some people who are divorcing because they’ve been abused — she was just bored with her husband, which does suck, but does a movie really need to be made out of that? There are far greater tragedies in life).

I also thought it was ridiculous she went to India and Bali and the film didn’t get at all dirty or personal with how difficult the living conditions are for a lot of people there. It was so incredibly sanitized and felt so non-realistic. Julia Robert’s character was just boring and indulgent and didn’t realize how lucky she was.

    • Janice- down the veggie road on August 18, 2010 at 6:52 pm

I completely second your opinion of this movie – give me a break – divorce cuz you are bored?!?! Overall the whole mentality of the main character is self-centered!

I am still depressed that I didn’t get to try one of your much coveted macaroons at HLS. I’ve been crying myself to sleep 😉

  10. Beth on August 17, 2010 at 4:11 pm

I got a good song for you! It’s become my new favorite for a burst of energy during my long runs.
    My Chick Bad by Ludacris!

my chick bad, my chick good, my chick do stuff that yo girl wish she could… 🙂

  11. Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward on August 17, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Definitely agree with you that I haven’t seen a movie as good as the book. Eclipse was pretty close though 😉

Good luck with the dinner tonight!

  12. Lauren on August 17, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Totally agree re: Eat Pray Love. The book had a lot of amazing stuff in it; the movie was beautiful, made me hungry and want to travel… but where was the AMAZING?? I realize it’s impossible to get as deep as a book with a blockbuster movie, but there was definitely that depth lacking.
Ah well. It made me hungry enough to eat a big pasta dinner afterwards so I guess it had its merits 😉

I’ve found that listening to upbeat Indian music is great for a cardio session…check out the Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack and various other Indian songs I listened to on a run last week on this post: http://anotherhealthyhabit.com/2010/08/08/mexican-quinoa-veggie-burger/

  14. Ellen@FirednFabulous on August 17, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Cutest.pooch.EVER. Hmm…workout songs…so this might sound cheesy to you, but Jesse McCartney’s “How Do You Sleep” with Ludacris always gets me pumped when I’m working out. La Roux’s “In For The Kill” is awesome too 🙂

  15. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on August 17, 2010 at 4:43 pm

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie as good as the book! I have high hopes for E,P,L- I hope I like it!

  18. Emily on August 17, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Oh Paula Deen… why, oh why are your gooey butter cakes so amazingly delicious? I made a version at Christmas time with a chocolate bottom and white choc/peppermint filling… Yum.

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 5:07 pm

      that sounds ridiculously amazing

  19. Jessica@tastyandtrim on August 17, 2010 at 5:03 pm

I agree, books are always better than the movies! If you haven’t already, download dynamite by taio cruz and I like it by enrique iglesias..both great workout songs! 🙂

  20. Jenna on August 17, 2010 at 5:08 pm

I may sound like a total nerd for saying this, but I think that the only films that are even remotely comparable to their book counterparts are the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They were just so fantastic.

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 5:14 pm

they were fantastic! the naps i took during them. 😉 i couldn’t stay awake, but i never read the books. from what i hear, they’re incredible

  21. Conni on August 17, 2010 at 5:26 pm

I’m loving All I Do Is Win by DJ Khaled. I’m trying to increase my running speed and I love to listen to it and ‘compete’ with the other runners. ha. 🙂

  22. Emily @ Emilyeatsclean on August 17, 2010 at 5:31 pm

Mmm the meal that your fixing sounds delish! Can’t wait to read all about it. I’m depressed that Eat, Pray, Love is not as good as you thought it would be. If I’d ever finish reading the book, I would go see the movie for myself! 🙂

  26. Sherry on August 17, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Ohh… I love giving music suggestions. When I work out I love:

-Cross My Heart by Marianas Trench
    -Celebrity Status by Marianas Trench
-You Don’t Miss Twice (When You’re Shavin’ With a Knife) by Murder By Death
-Gasoline by The Airborne Toxic Event
    -Dancing Shoes by Arctic Monkeys
-Trashed and Scattered by Avenged Sevenfold (great for intense cardio)
-Bak Et Halleluja by Kaizers Orchestra (if you don’t mind that the lyrics are in Norwegian)

Well, I don’t want to take up too much space, but those are workout staples for me. Hope you find one you like:)

    • dawn on August 21, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Sherry, i love your crazy musical taste! I’ve never heard of any of these LOL and am playing them all on youtube 😀 I’m looking specifically for workout music with positive messages and would LOVE LOVE to hear any suggestions you might have! Thanks 🙂

  27. Holly on August 17, 2010 at 8:04 pm

These are my JAMS lately: “La la la” – Auburn, and “Your Love” – Nicki Minaj.

I have an hour commute, and I go to a gym near my office before work (so I get up at 4 am) – I almost always hear one of these songs and it wakes me right up!

  29. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 17, 2010 at 9:30 pm

I hate how the movies never live up to the books! The only exception I can think of is The Notebook. I liked it better than the book! 😀

  30. Karen on August 17, 2010 at 9:34 pm

    Current Running Playlist:

    Forca – Nelly Furtado
    Keep on Walking
    For Nancy – Pete Yorn
Funny the way it is – Dave Matthews

    Beautiful Bride – Flyleaf

  31. Lisa on August 17, 2010 at 9:58 pm

I am loving “You look better when I’m drunk” (mostly bc how fun is that title?) and “Magic” by B.O.B.

I agree about books being better than the movies. EPL was like that but I still love Julia!

  32. Kelly F. on August 17, 2010 at 10:57 pm

I actually have a song question instead of a suggestion! Do you know the title of a Spanish version of Don’t Stop Believin’? It sounds like it, but the lyrics are not a direct translation. We had it in Zumba the other day, and it was so great!

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2010 at 11:45 pm

it would be no pares de creer…. but i haven’t heard the song! does it sound like journey singing it, or something totally different?

      • Kelly F. on August 18, 2010 at 9:44 pm

It definitely isn’t Journey but the tune is exactly the same (as is the music) but with different words. I speak Spanish as well, and the words aren’t even close to the words for Don’t Start! And it’s not a sample mixed in either. The whole song has the same tune. I just moved to OKC and it is a brand new Zumba for me, but everyone seemed to know it well!

        • Fitnessista on August 18, 2010 at 10:05 pm

so awesome! let me know if you find out who it’s by, i googled and googled and couldn’t find anything

          • Sara on January 15, 2011 at 11:55 pm

Hey I happened across this blog because I was searching for the same song that I heard in Zumba, and then suddenly I remembered enough of the lyrics to do a better search and I found it so I thought I’d share with you all!

It’s called Baby Come Back by Magic Juan. And it’s super catchy! Enjoy. 🙂

  33. Brigid on August 18, 2010 at 9:46 am

I thought the book Eat, Pray, Love was ok, and I think I’ll be skipping the movie, to be honest.

It’s not great workout music, but you should check out the EP from Tennis. It’s three little summery songs, but they are great fun.

  34. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on August 18, 2010 at 10:20 am

I totally agree that the movie had all of the parts to be fabulous, but it just didn’t blow me away. Rome was definitely my favorite part, then there’s just India and Bali.

  35. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on August 18, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Glad you enjoyed the AllieBar m’dear! Thanks again for the macaroons 🙂 I can’t stop thinking about them!

  36. Katie on August 18, 2010 at 11:24 pm

I was disappointed by Eat, Pray, Love too! I was so excited going into it but everything seemed too hollywood perfect. :/

    Anyway,I thought of a music reccomendation —

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)

Their new album is great too. Enjoy! 🙂

  37. shelly@campinggirlchronicals on August 19, 2010 at 8:17 am

I agree with you about Eat, Pray, Love.

I was a bit annoyed that they focused so much on her relationships with men and how each led to the other. I loved the book and felt that the focus was more about embracing the inner love and also the importance of the relationship with her friend in Bali.
    Just my opinion 🙂
