Christmas in June

Hi guys! How’s your day going? Keep those giveaway entries coming! Awesome prize this week, too 🙂

Bella and Caro wanted to say hello and show off their new haircuts.

Crazy pups 1 of 1

We found a new groomer -she is AMAZING- and she texted a picture of Caro lounging while she was getting her haircut. Apparently Caro fully appreciated the spa day atmosphere, and Miss Bell is just as sassy as ever. I love that people at the dog park are shocked to find out she’s 7 years old; lots of energy and spunk in that little dog. Bell’s been doing this thing lately where she jumps off the bed in the middle of the night and can’t get back up, so she scratches and whines until I pick her up and put her back in bed. Today Liv and I got her a comfy bed to put on the floor and (hopefully) she’ll find a good spot after she jumps down? I have to say the pet stairs in the Sky Mall magazine are looking pretty appealing right about now 😉

Last night was a lovely evening and perfect way to celebrate the first day of summer: dinner on the patio, a walk to the Italian bakery and a movie. So good.

The Pilot’s famous jalapeño turkey burgers:

Pilot 1 of 1 4

along with a mountain of sweet potato wedges

Fries 1 of 1

(with coconut oil, salt, pepper, pipelchuma, chives and smoked paprika)

and crispy, garlicky kale chips (aka easiest way to get a toddler to eat a ton of greens).

Burgers 1 of 1 4

Speaking of greens, I’ve decreased to coffee intake majorly in favor of green juice and green tea. My eye twitch was getting a little creepy, so sleep became a huge priority again and I decided to limit coffee to maybe one cup if I really need it, and do green tea instead twice a day. The eye twitch was gone within a couple of days.

Green juice 1 of 1 6

(Todays combo with apple, cucumber, spinach, kale, parsley, ginger, celery and lemon)

The title from this post comes from a little surprise I got yesterday: we found a gift card from my nana to Home Goods (aka one of the best stores ever because they have ALL THE BUDDHAS). I’m a bit of a gift card hoarder because I like the save them for PCS assignments. Whenever we move, we seem to always need random house stuff, so by saving gift cards, it’s like a fun housewarming present when we get to our new location. This particular gift card was somehow separated from the rest and was found t was in Liv’s treasure chest, which houses all of her cards and momentos from the hospital.

(New candles + some fun decor stuff)

Just got home from teaching Zumba and about to enjoy dinner with the fam.

Hope you’re having a wonderful Monday!

xoxo

Fellow gift card hoarders in the house? Awesome tips for kiddos to eat greens? A green smoothie, juice, kale chips or zucchini chips usually do the trick for us.

I tend to save gift cards too. The last time I was at Bath and Body Works I had 3 cards. The cashier thought it was kind of funny.

Way to go on the coffee switch! After starting my new job, I went back to 2 cups a day, but also stayed feeling like a coffee zombie of sorts. As in, I NEEDED that afternoon cup of Joe!

  3. Kate on June 23, 2014 at 11:12 pm

    I meant *started feeling like*

I’m a total gift card hoarder! I tend to save them for something “special” instead of just applying to my normal purchases at the store/spa/wherever.

Awww we just tried to take my little pup to the groomers this weekend but she had a panic attack and they couldn’t get past clipping her nails 🙁 Better luck next time I guess!

TOTALLY a gift card hoarder! My hubs and I were cleaning our spare room and I came across a $25 Starbucks card. Score! 🙂 Haha, totally love the Pilot’s shirt by the way!

I get oddly picky about what I spend my gift cards on. It’s weird–I’m way pickier about spending gift cards than I am with my own money. I tend to hold on to them for a long time because of this. Or sometimes I have them in my purse and just forget to use them whenever I’m in that store. I’ve been to Costco three times since I’ve gotten a couple gift cards there and forget to use them every time!

haha i do the same thing! i feel like gift cards have to be used for something special 🙂 i finally used one from our wedding when we moved here!

When my nephews were little I told them broccoli was little trees…not sure if that’s what did it or not, but they love broccoli. If I roast a batch, put it on a plate and tell them not to eat it, it will disappear in no time!

    • Fitnessista on June 24, 2014 at 12:37 am

we call broccoli little trees, too 🙂 that’s a great tip. if i pretend i made the food for myself, she’ll eat most of it 😉

I’m a total gift card hoarder! It’s bad though because we usually end up forgetting about/ losing them before we can use them!

I get the worst eye twitches when I’m super tired. I’m glad to hear yours are going away!

That dinner looks so delicious. I need to make Sweet Potato Wedges!
I am a gift card hoarder too. I managed to use a fashion one past Saturday, I am actually a little proud 🙂

From lots of experience with dogs of all shapes and sizes, it sounds like sweet Bella’s hips are starting to get a little stiff and sore. You might ask your vet abut a joint supplement and limiting her jumping from high-ish places. We like Adroitin-M Joint Soft Chews for our big boy with mild hip dysplasia. They’ve made a big difference for our boy!

We scored our pet steps at Homegoods. 🙂 they go fast tho, so if you see them, grab them! We bought a new mattress & it was too high for Chester to jump onto & since he already has bad knees. Took a while for him to learn to use them.

I love candles and Home Goods. I am also a hoarder of gift cards. I am currently sitting on a Victoria’s Secret from January.

I’m a sucker for Home Goods! I can’t go in without buying something!

  15. Jodie on June 24, 2014 at 7:06 am

Which coconut oil do you use?

    I love home goods!

My dad has those dog stairs for his 12-year-old long haired terrier/doxie, Frisket. He used to use them all the time, but now he has to be coerced into using them, and prefers being lifted onto the bed. He’s getting old, that pup. But he’s so flipping cute!

    • Fitnessista on June 24, 2014 at 10:38 am

aww! i was wondering if bell would do that too 😉

      • Anna S. on June 25, 2014 at 4:45 am

I got the stairs for my chihuahua mix and he LOVES them! I have a set in the living room for him to get on the couch and a set in my bedroom. I sleep well, he’s happy with the independence. Win-win.

        • Fitnessista on June 25, 2014 at 10:40 am

cute!! i’m definitely going to look at stairs or a bench for bell. awesome that your little guy likes the stairs!

I have the same annoying eye twitch! I try increasing sleep, increasing yoga (to de-stress), but there is only so much time in the day. I decided to try your green tea approach. Today is day one, this could be interesting! Hoping for minimal withdrawals from my daily cup of joe!

    • Fitnessista on June 24, 2014 at 10:37 am

      ahhh! good luck today!

  19. Julie on June 24, 2014 at 10:41 am

I was burning a pumpkin candle last night… so for me, it’s fall in June!

  20. Katy on June 24, 2014 at 11:01 am

Our Yorkie started doing the same thing where he’d go off the bed and couldn’t get back up. We got a little padded ottoman and put it at the foot of the bed. He now uses that to get back up and we’re back in business!

  21. Tracy on June 24, 2014 at 12:43 pm

So interesting about the coffee related twitch fix (rhymes with Stitch Fix hahaha)!! I’ll definitely remember this the next time I notice one of my own. Although, come to think of it, I haven’t had one for quite a while and have recently been choosing green tea over coffee more often. Hmmm….

Resident gift card hoarder here 🙁 My mom was on me last month because her Amazon account informed her of outstanding gift cards (to me) from 2009 and 2010. Fail!! Probably need to spend those!! I’m always saving them for that “special” purchase, you know?

  22. Elissa on June 24, 2014 at 1:39 pm

We have 2 small dogs that can’t jump up on the bed, so we added an ottoman at the end of the bed and they can get up and down as they please – a much more stylish option than the doggie stairs with the same purpose! And more sleep for Mama!

  23. Nicole on June 24, 2014 at 2:04 pm

Cute pups! Those sweet potato fries look awesome, I need to buy some smoked paprika and getting to making these. I’m totally jealous of your patio dinner, I wish I had a patio…wherever I move next that’s a must on my list.

  24. NATASHA on June 24, 2014 at 2:19 pm

We have dog stairs for our little yorkie that lead to the bed. BEST.IDEA.EVER

  25. Emily @onesouthernbelleonebigcity on June 24, 2014 at 2:51 pm

Love The Pilot’s shirt! What is it about “fly boys” and their shirts?? My husband has some crazy ones that I am surprised the USMC allowed him to wear, even if under his flight suit! #crazyboys

  26. Michelle on June 24, 2014 at 4:34 pm

My roommate’s dog is just stubborn and won’t use the pet steps she got! But he loves having a bed on the floor since (if you have hardwood floors) it’s cooler down there sometimes for a hairy pup. 🙂

  27. Kimberly on June 24, 2014 at 7:44 pm

We have a 14 yr old pup and we put a bench at the end of the bed to make it easier for her to get on and off the bed. She loves it.

    • Fitnessista on June 25, 2014 at 1:58 am

that’s a great idea. i’ve been wanting to get a bench anyway, and now we have a reason 🙂 i think bell would like that!

  28. Hilary on June 28, 2014 at 7:24 am

I don’t have pets (my son is super allergic to dogs) but my mom has a small sassy dog like yours and she totally forked over the cash to buy those Sky Mall stairs and that animal zips up and down those stairs like Rocky. Totally recommend the splurge. No reason to lose sleep over puppies. 🙂
