Church Rebels

Hi friends <3 How are you? Hope you’ve had an amazing day so far. I *was* going to blog before my 6:30am shift this morning. To be real, I have no idea where that came from because needless to say, it didn’t happen. I was lucky to get to work on time, even though I’m still a zombie 6 hours later. Mad props to the people who can work early 😉

We had a little family get-together last night since it was my bro’s confirmation. We found out the hard way that “Starbucks is not allowed inside the sanctuary”, so Meg, Kyle and I had to enjoy our drinks outside before the ceremony began.

(outfit deets for Meg and I are on the *fashion page*)

The ceremony was beautiful, even though I was ROASTING the entire time –the sun was beating down on my face and I was fanning myself with an envelope I found in my purse. I’ve actually fainted during church before, back in middle school. Tucson heat is no joke and I was scared to relive those memories and make a huge scene again. Thank goodness it was bueno.

Afterwards, the fam and I went to La Parrilla to feast on delicious Mexican food.

(Signs that a place is legit = you can watch them make the tortillas FRESH. I swoon)

Usually when I go out for Mexican, I’ll decide in advance if it’s a “chip night.” I figured that last night wouldn’t be worth it since I had to wake up early and sleeping with a food baby is no fun. Then this was presented in front of me:

guac

I had about thirteen hundred chips with guacamole. NBD.

+ beans with no cheese

frijoles

+ green corn tamale with no cheese

tamale

Beautiful.

I’m actually on my lunch break right now, so I’m going to scrounge for something to eat, but I’ll see ya later today! <3

xoxo

Something to talk about: Fave Mexican dish! Also, have you ever fainted before? It’s actually the reason why my nose is slightly crooked- I fainted after a doc procedure.. on the tile. Ouchers :/

i fainted in the DMV when I was nine months pregnant. It was soooooo hot and there were so many people and the lines was super long. I came to lying on the ground with all these people staring at me. Is she pregnant? She is so young? Why is she here? and on and on it goes. Thank goodness they let me get my picture and get the heck out of there.

I’ve fainted only once…it was an 80-something degree day and I had a 104 degree fever and was therefore at the doctor’s office in heavy sweatpants and a sweatshirt because I felt so chilled in spite of the weather. I had just been diagnosed with a kidney infection and there was some talk of sending me to the hospital for IV fluids because I was extremely dehydrated, so they drew some blood. As I was paying my bill things suddenly went black and when I came to I was back in an examination room with three nurses shoving bags of ice up my sweatshirt too cool me down. Not a pleasant experience, but at least I was at the doctor’s when it happened!

I’ve fainted once, and it was also in Catholic church. Christmas Eve midnight mass. It was unusually hot and humid and there were 400+ people. Super embarrassing. Now I wear layers and peel them off as necessary. 🙂

I passed out after hitting my funny bone in class (weird, I know). I hit the ground so hard that I had a seizure and freaked out the teacher (and my class mates). Nice high school memory 🙂
Congrats to your brother…and glad to hear the pilot is coming home soon!

Chiles Rellenos and Tamales for me…or basically anything on a menu at an authentic Mexican joint. lol. Loooove it.

Nope, I’ve never passed out. I’ve definitely been in situations where I should have, but I’ve never actually done it. Closest I’ve come is during Camel (?) pose in yoga…I get super lightheaded during that, so I tend not to hold it.

LOl. That’s too funny. My family was known for passing out in churches. Mi mama when she was younger, and my two sisters and I each passed out in the same church when we were in middle school. by the time my little sister fainted, the teachers were prepared. Once, the guy next to me, saw me teetering and stepped aside and let me fall on the wooden pew. Granted, you can’t expect a 12 year old kid to catch his 12 year old class mate, but still pretty uncool move.

I still faint. If I get dizzy at all I immediately sit down or go into childs pose to balance myself out. Luckily I haven’t fainted in over a year. . . .

My favorite Mexican dish? Classic arroz y friojles con tortillas (corn or flour!), if made by my mama y abuela. Nothing hits the spot like home cooked Mexican food. Oh, and tamales! Christmas can’t come soon enough.

I’ve fainted a few times…The first time was actually during a bikram class at Yoga Vida in Tucson. I knew that it’s best to go on a relatively empty stomach, but I found out the hard way that taking bikram after not eating ANYTHING that day is a horrible idea. I passed out halfway through the class. They helped me out, and I immediately went next door to Fronimo’s to get some food in me. So embarrassing! The second time was while I was holding my friend’s hand while she got stitches. I can handle gory horror movies, but apparently can’t handle real-life gore! The third time was during an intense glucose blood test. I had to go in on an empty stomach, drink some gross sugary drink, and then get like a million vials of blood taken. I’m not squeamish about blood tests, but this one was too much. I was OUT. I even freaked out the lab tech. Fun stuff!
