Dance Party

Morning friends!

Late blogging tonight… we’ve had a very intense game of Just Dance on the Wii going on 😉

dance party

The game is actually a LOT of fun- and you work up a sweat!

dance party2

(That’s a screen shot from a video… that I will not be posting, hahah)

I was impressed with the choreography- great for the music and a mix of goofy and challenging. We’re huge Wii fans over here… if you’re going to play a video game, you might as well get some activity out of it, ya know? 🙂

So today was a wonderfulgood day, much better than yesterday’s blah day.

I walked Bell

worked

went to yoga (2 days in a row! What what)

and then got my Just Dance on, since we had to cancel DT tonight. 🙂

Some recent eats:

sweet potato

Carrots, hummus, salad, and a giant sweet potato with green chile goat cheese (!) and salsa

sweet potato (2)

We also tried a new restaurant in Tucson: Pita Jungle.

I was expecting it to be like a Pita Pit, and was pleasantly surprised to walk in and see a *nice* restaurant, with an open kitchen and tons of healthy options (house-made bean burgers, warm and cold salads, tabbouleh and hummus platters, grilled Mahi and salmon)

pita jungle

I ordered a salmon salad, which was cooked to perfection (the fine line between being undercooked and cooked- it melted in my mouth), which had a lemon vinaigrette. The dressing nice and tangy- not the least bit greasy.

salad5

Pita Jungle was GLORIOUS and I’ll definitely be going back. I just think it was badly named??? Pitas didn’t seem to be the focus of the menu, so the name could easily give potential customers the wrong impression. The food was fab, though.

I’m going to call it an early night because I’m secretly 90 it will be an early morning to Bodyrock before work.

Also on tomorrow’s agenda:

A haircut, since my bangs are too long to wear in my face- I’ve been twisting them back

bangs

Hope you guys have a great night and Ill see ya laterrrrr <3

xoxo,

Gina

  2. Regina on March 11, 2011 at 11:55 pm

I love your hair braided in the front! You should do a vlog of how to do that! 😉

    • 2catsandapug on March 12, 2011 at 12:48 am

I agree!! I have annoying-length side bangs right now and would love a vlog on how to do that (and any other cute hair ideas you have!)

  3. Cara Craves... on March 11, 2011 at 11:56 pm

I was checking out the vegan breakie ideas…
I am now inspired to make myself some brown rice
pudding for breakfast. I always seem to have some
leftover in my fridge. What a great way to reuse.

I love the twisted back bangs…so pretty!

And Pita Jungle…in Phoenix I lived a half mile from one, but I never went into it, but walked by it…practically daily, and it always looked nice. Not just a crappy chain restaurant. Glad you enjoyed your Pita action!

And Wii. I think I am the only person on the planet never to have played it! Glad you got your gaming AND your workout in 🙂

Have a super Fri nite and weekend, Gina!
    🙂

Your hair looks super cute braided in the front! I love the just dance game on the kinect. I think the trick is to do big ridiculous flailing motions for the most points. It’s so much fun.

  6. Runeatrepeat on March 12, 2011 at 12:21 am

Is that a french braid? I love it!

  7. Erin @ Smile Girl You're Beautiful on March 12, 2011 at 12:47 am

aww your hair looks so cute like that!

and that just dance looks so fun! i think i am the last person on the face of this planet to not have a wii, or any game console for that matter ;p

  8. Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife on March 12, 2011 at 1:14 am

I like your hair like that….but I got my hair cut today too (we can be twinners, yah!!), so I know the feeling of being sick of your own hair and do, ya know?? I agree on workin’ it out with a WII instead of bummin’ on a couch with a remote. Love your kind of Friday, lady 🙂

  9. Gina on March 12, 2011 at 2:05 am

your hair looks super cute like that! could you do a video tutorial please?

I’m a fan of Wii, too! So much fun.

I have a Wii but haven’t played in wayy too long. I was obsessed a few years ago!! And that place sounds a lot like Hummus Place in NYC- a hummus restaurant. You need to check it out the next time you’re here!

  13. Claire @ Un Bello Aperitivo on March 12, 2011 at 7:09 am

I’ve never danced with the Wii, but I’ve played bowling…it was not pretty, haha. Your hair looks super cute with braided bangs!

  19. Stephanie @ Walking my Talk on March 12, 2011 at 8:36 am

I’ve never played Just Dance, but I am guilty of playing DanceDance Revolution for hours on end. I just wish that there were more songs.

Congrats on the shout-out from Women’s Health!

  20. Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete on March 12, 2011 at 8:59 am

I’ve never played Just Dance but it looks like fun! Are you picking your nose in that picture or is just some fly dance move? 🙂

That salmon salad looks amazing — I don’t usually order salmon in restaurants because it is usually overcooked and tastes bad.

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 9:39 am

i think that would be called “the swim” hahaha

  21. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on March 12, 2011 at 9:01 am

I’ve always been terrible at those dancing video games. I’m so uncoordinated! 😛 I still have fun playing them and looking like a total dork though!

  22. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on March 12, 2011 at 9:18 am

Sounds like a great day! The salmon salad looks great too – I think that would have been my order as well. PS. on top of the book deal you’re already getting, I think you could probably write another one called Gina: The Restaurant Salmon Critic! 😛 Have a great day!

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 9:39 am

      :))))
thanks girl- i am very particular about my salmon, haha

Hi! I love your blog! I’m sorry if you have mentioned this before I was just curious what is the typical deployment of your husband and how long he usually stays home for? Sorry if that question is to personal (ignore if it is :). ) just thought I’d ask. I think you are incredibely strong for dealing with this and have a fabulous philosophy on life! I love your blog because it’s informative, fun and upbeat 🙂

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 2:24 pm

      thanks girl!
he’s usually home for 18 months and gone for 6, but lately it’s been a lot more than that. so ready for it to be over!

  25. Parita @ myinnershakti on March 12, 2011 at 10:56 am

How exactly did you twist your bangs back like that? So pretty!

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 2:24 pm

thanks girl! i’ll do a video on it

  26. Laura on March 12, 2011 at 11:22 am

Glad you feel better today. I know you live in a land of sun (winters here in Ohio are very dreary and cause Vit D deprivation), but I think everyone is just ready for spring and change. I know you gave up almond butter for Lent, but I really love Earth Balance peanut butter these days.

    Have a great weekend.

  27. AnneW on March 12, 2011 at 11:37 am

Just Dance is AMAZING! My roommates and I are obsessed. Last night we tried the Michael Jackson disk for the first time, and I might love it even more than the original! Definitely a workout in itself, and SO MUCH FUN!

  28. Amy @ Amy Starts to Run on March 12, 2011 at 11:50 am

I am walking commercial for Pita Jungle. I love their hummus and crave it often. I’m in phx and have been going there ever since it was just one restaurant by ASU. I’m also in love with the lentil fetish salad. We may just get married.

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 2:23 pm

      that salad sounds ridiculous

  29. Tracey on March 12, 2011 at 11:52 am

Hey Gina! I have a question about salmon. When you order salmon at a restaurant (or cook it at home), do you make sure it’s wild-caught and not farm-raised? I feel like I always have to skip out on having salmon when I’m eating out because they don’t offer wild-caught fish. Am I being too picky…should I just roll with the farm-raised? Seems the fat content is sooo much higher.

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 2:23 pm

i don’t ask when i eat out and just assume it’s farm raised. i eat salmon more often at home, and always buy wild caught

  30. Sarra on March 12, 2011 at 11:55 am

I love just dance on wii, i have both, so fun! I also loooove that braid you did, love love love. do you think you can do a tutorial on it? I never know how to get it right 😉

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 2:22 pm

      sure!

  31. Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather on March 12, 2011 at 12:00 pm

I agree – video games should have you move around a lot if you’re going to play them!

  32. Ashley @ the fit academic on March 12, 2011 at 12:20 pm

haha, i joke that I’m an old lady too – I like my sleep! What’s wrong with that!? ; )

    • Fitnessista on March 12, 2011 at 2:22 pm

NOTHING 🙂 love sleep so much

  33. Jess on March 12, 2011 at 12:31 pm

I love just dance on the wii! If you like that you would love Dance Central for the kinect on xbox. For that one there are no controllers and it has way better choreography I think.

  34. kelsey @ un-american in france on March 12, 2011 at 12:52 pm

If you need a girly book recommendation, this afternoon I finished reading Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos. I read it in less than a week; I couldn’t put it down!! I love your hair pinned back like that! And I’m totally jealous of your green chili goat cheese! I’m totally obsessed with goat cheese!!

  35. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on March 12, 2011 at 2:10 pm

I have to try that with my bangs!! Slash that game looks so dorky but so fun. I’m glad you loved it!:)

I am with the many people above and love the braided bangs. I just read the article you linked about acupuncture. I really want to try it but don’t know where to find someone who is in this field. Where did you find yours?

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2011 at 10:31 am

my cousin recommended hers, and i’ve absolutely loved him. word of mouth is a good way to go

  41. Eileen on March 13, 2011 at 10:34 am

Pita Jungle is one of my favorite restaurants. Your post made me miss living in Phoenix (oh, and the awesome weather too!!!)
Try the Lentil Fatoosh Salad and top it with Siracha chili sauce. Their hummus is amazing too! Keep eating there so I can live vicariously through you.

  42. Andrea on March 13, 2011 at 10:45 am

I love Pita Jungle. There is one close to my house in Phoenix. You must try the lentil fatoosh salad. One of my favorites!
