Day of days

Or a week of weeks?

Tea and nails 1 of 1

(My “down time” last night was a mug of tea and painting my nails. Business on top, party on the toes)

I think the universe cursed me for thinking to myself that I was so happy we made it a year without Liv getting sick. Even though we were at frequent squadron and family events, baby classes and playgroups…. a whole year! And now I’ve been punished.

Photo 9

(Still smiling, though! Such a sweet girl.)

She got a one-year immunization on Monday and seemed to be doing great, but the past couple of days have been a little rough: sniffles, mild fever, crankiness. She’s doing much better today, but I woke up with body aches and a sore throat. Fingers crossed that I’m just overtired and not actually sick. I’m home from work (a friend covered my classes), and am going back upstairs to sleep when nana comes over to play with Liv in a little while.

Jalapeños to burn it away:

Breakfast 1 of 1 2

The goat cheese and jalapeño combo is still going strong. I picked up a container of fresh jalapeños at Trader Joe’s for the week, and they’re almost gone.

I’m also glad I took some time Sunday to prep lots of snacks for Liv and myself for the week:

Turkey lentil muffins (I skipped the loaf part and have been eating 3-4 as a snack)

baked 6 sweet potatoes

made a large batch quinoa

protein pancakes

and chopped some veggies.

The Pilot is still eating softer foods since he got his wisdom teeth out, and it’s pretty amazing- he hasn’t experienced much pain and ZERO swelling. When I got mine taken out (maybe 10 years ago) my face doubled in size: chipmunk, fo sho.

I’ve been joining him in lots of soup dinners and cold foods:

Ice cream 1 of 1

Moral support, you know. (Though I will say that ice cream isn’t nearly as good when you’ve hunted all of the cookie dough bites out)

Hope you’re having a good morning!

Get in a good workout for me, mmmm k?

xoxo

Gina

Hope you and Miss Liv feel better ASAP! I think I need to hop on the jalepeno train to burn what I’ve been fighting.
I looked like the Nutty Professor when I got my wisdom teeth out- not my best looking days!

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2013 at 12:31 pm

hahaah! same. it was a disaster, and i had to go to work the next day with my giant cheeks.

  3. Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin on January 17, 2013 at 12:22 pm

I turned into a total chipmunk when I got my wisdom teeth out too!! Glad your hubby is doing better than we did. I would gladly eat ice cream every night for moral support 😉

  4. Kristen on January 17, 2013 at 12:26 pm

You are so fortunate to have some help so you can rest a little!
I am sick for the first time in years! I just got back from the doctor and I have an upper respiratory infection, ear infection, and sinus infection. (When I do get sick, I get it bad)
I would LOVE for someone to watch my little one for a little while so I could rest but alas, everyone is at work and the show must go on!
Anyway, I certainly hope you all get better soon:)

Has Liv had anything somewhat spicy yet? People give babies spices at different ages so I didn’t know. Was just wondering if she had taste buds like her mama.

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2013 at 12:31 pm

yes, i’m so thankful the family is here- they help us so much.
hope you feel better soon, too!
she’s had salsa and loves it, but i gave her a bite of spicy black bean soup and she was not a fan.

  5. Diana on January 17, 2013 at 12:29 pm

Hope you both feel better SOON. she is so adorable –I can learn from her that it is possible to smile when you’re sick.
Thank you for sharing advance food prep ideas. I need step by step, literally, instructions for meal planning.
    Rest well!

Ah, hope you all feel better soon! At least you’ve got ice cream. 😉

That is great the pilot didn’t have any adverse reactions. My face def like a chipmunk too… bigger cheeks than usual:) Feel better

The same thing happened to Sawyer after his 1 year shots (which he got on the 7th)…about 5 days later he had a consistent mild fever for a few days, was cranky, seemed a little off, and even got a bit of a rash. I ended up taking him into the doctor and he was considered healthy (no flu/cold, etc)…so possibly just a little reaction.

    Hope she feels better soon!

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2013 at 12:39 pm

i’ve heard it’s pretty common, so that’s good to know he as healthy and is feeling better. i hope she can shake it in the next 24 hours, or i’ll call the ped and get her in to see her.
thank you, i hope so too!

  9. Krista on January 17, 2013 at 12:51 pm

Oh sorry for you and Liv not feeling well! I hope the restday will help you – I always drink loads of hot lemon/ginger water, heats you up and flushes these bugs away! Get well soon!

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2013 at 3:01 pm

i’m so glad i stocked up on ginger this week- i’ll make a tea right now! xoxo

I just did your walking workout and loved it. 🙂

I do the same thing to ice cream…..it’s atrocious 🙂

  21. Allison W. on January 17, 2013 at 3:16 pm

I don’t have a blog, I just read ’em, but I was wondering how the ads on your site work. There’s a Milky Way ad hanging out on the top of your blog – just seems so wrong to see on a “healthy living” blog!!!

  22. J on January 17, 2013 at 3:47 pm

As a nurse I feel like I have to share! When you get shots, your body’s cells try to rush to the” invader” and heal you. Your immune system is lowered temporarily, and you feel pretty run down. Colds and symptoms of colds are very common after shots, especially fatigue!

Your daughter is so, so cute. Hope she feels better soon.

  23. Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian on January 17, 2013 at 3:49 pm

I hope you guys feel better soon! Seems like everyone is getting sick right now and with all the flu craziness going on, it’s pretty scary. For my workout tonight after work, I’m going to do Zumba Core on the Wii. I’ll dedicate it to you!

  24. Amanda @ .running with spoons. on January 17, 2013 at 4:06 pm

I hate it when you pick out all the best bits and all that’s left is the mediocre stuff. I used to do that all the time with Lucky Charms when I was little  Hope you and Liv feel better soon!

  25. Noelle on January 17, 2013 at 4:08 pm

His must not have been impacted. If they are impacted its just a total disaster. My one side was and other wasn’t and I refused to believe they took them out on the one side but sure enough, once I could open my mouth they were gone, just didn’t hurt. so crazy! The best EVER was restaurant hummus mixed with their rice (I got mine from moby dick) it was practically heaven after several days of juice/yogurt/ice cream.

  26. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on January 17, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Ha, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who picks all the goodies out of ice cream! I love Chubby Hubby ice cream and always end up eating all the peanut-butter-pretzel pieces before the ice cream is even close to being finished!

  27. Gabriella Allen on January 17, 2013 at 5:40 pm

    Hey Gina!

I know you’re super busy with taking care of Liv and the Pilot (and yourself!) right now, but I was wondering if you’d do a mini-discussion about protein smoothies at some point. I know you did a smoothie-everyday-for-a-month challenge sometime last year, and I’d like to try it at some point this year, but I’m not sure of what exactly constitutes as a smoothie good enough to replace a meal or snack. Is protein powder required for it to have adequate nutritional value? Or can nut butter be substituted? So many questions! and I trust your advice fully, where I trust maybe 8% of the internet’s.

    Thanks! Happy Thursday:)

I hope you feel better! I looked at your linked post to protein pancakes but didn’t have time to look through all the comments to see if anyone had asked this before – I saw that you used 6 scoops SunWarrior but I wondered if you had the size of the scoops you use? I have quite a large scoop in my powder – it is about 5 tbsp – so I’m thinking 6 scoops would be a lot! Wanted to check before I made them lol.

PS I totally take all the cookie dough bits out of my ice cream first too…

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2013 at 9:42 pm

glad i’m not the only one 😉
      sun warrior scoop is 21g

Love your nail polish colors! I always like to mix up my nails and toes. Hope you & your little one feel better soon!

When I got my wisdom teeth out, the physical pain wasn’t too bad. However, the emotional pain that resulted from me watching Cupcake Wars on Food Network when I couldn’t eat solid foods was unbearable.

  31. Sarah@Making Thyme for Health on January 18, 2013 at 2:13 am

I hope you feel better after some rest!

I love the Essie color on your nails…which one is it? I’m an Essie addict.

  32. Sarah@Making Thyme for Health on January 18, 2013 at 2:15 am

Oh, never mind. Just saw it above my comment. 🙂

  33. Bek @ Crave on January 18, 2013 at 3:33 am

I think it’s great that you’re eating the same food as the hubby, you know so he doesn’t get jealous when you’re eating a solid food like an apple while he is stuck with ice-cream 😉

    Aw, hope everyone gets better!

  34. Jessica @ Prayers and Apples on January 18, 2013 at 4:16 am

haha i always pick all the cookie dough out 😉 hope u guys feel better!!

  35. Nick Goodall on January 18, 2013 at 8:49 am

Wow, that really sucks! I hope the little one gets better, and also that you aren’t coming down with anything too bad.

Either I’m just hungry or that cracker looks awesome, as does the ice cream… I’m off to make some food, I might actually try your protein pancakes, they look delicious!

  36. Emily on January 18, 2013 at 11:03 am

Oh nooo! Get well soon, little Liv and Pilot! And hang in there, mamma!
