Desperate Times

Hey hey hey 🙂 How’s your morning treating ya??

Mine has been bueno… especially since I got my Vegas booty handed to me by Shaun T. Last night’s Fit Test was HARD and this morning’s plyo workout was even harder. But Ashley and I were troupers and got ‘em done 😀

After last night’s fit test, I did what I usually do when we get back from vacay and are lacking in the food department:

Grabbed a Tucson tamale from the freezer 😀

dinner

Desperate times call for desperate measures

It wasn’t a Bobby Flay tamale but it was still pretty face-rocking 😉

This morning before the Plyo workout, I munched an apple with mesquite and cinnamon:

apple

and almost *always* regret eating something before Insanity. My estomago can’t handle digestion with all of the jumping around… I did ok with the apple, but there were a couple of times where I feared getting sick.

Post workout:

oats

Raw Chia Protein Oats

-1/3 C soaked oat groats blended with

-1/2 banana

-1/2 scoop Sun Warrior

-Water

-cinnamon + mesquite

and soaked chia seeds mixed in

There’s SO much to do today!!!!

1. Laundry mountain

2. Inbox mountain

3. Train clients

4. Work schtuff on computer

5. Puppy wrangling 😉

6. Groceries

See ya this afternoon!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to do:

For health: Make it a goal to FLOSS every day this week if you don’t do so already! Healthy gums = healthier heart

For fitness: Add in a high intensity interval workout this week. Go easy for a minute and a half, then balls to the wall (either through speed or resistance) for 30-45 seconds and repeat. It will give you an effective workout in less time (20 minutes, including a warm up and cool down).

For happiness: Do something *nice for someone else* this week. You’ll be amazed how good it will make you feel, whether it’s paying a genuine compliment (someone told me they loved my dress on Saturday and it totally brightened my day), picking up the tab for the driver behind you in the Bizzle line, or helping out a friend with errands, etc. What do you plan on doing??

As the week goes on, leave a comment and me know how they go 😀

The only thing I can stomach before my plyo or functional workout is like 2 bites of a banana! Anything else and I am ready to hurl with all of the jumping and up and down movement.

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 10:07 am

      good to know.
the apple was a little too much

  2. Brittany on April 27, 2010 at 9:58 am

I flossed last night and did a HIIT workout this morning. All I need to do now is do something nice for someone else. I think I can handle that!

    Hope you well Gina!!

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 10:07 am

      that’s awesome 😀
thanks girl, you too! about to catch up on your blog 😉

  3. Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin on April 27, 2010 at 10:00 am

You know I just started doing interval workouts 2 weeks ago and even though its only 20 minutes, it kicks my butt! I’ve been doing 2 minutes jogging, 2 minutes sprinting, for 20 minutes and by the end I am a sweaty mess. 🙂

What is mesquite?? I’ve seen it on your blog quite a few times.

  4. Aubrey on April 27, 2010 at 10:00 am

There is always so much to do coming back from vacation, definitely not fun….
I always try to wait at least 2 hours in between eating anything and Insanity, because I do get nauseous. I took a break this weekend due to a soccer tournament and broke a rib! Doc said nothing for 6-8 weeks! Ahh, I am so bummed!
Love Tucson Tamale Co. by the way. Stock up every weekend at the farmers market.

  5. Jenny on April 27, 2010 at 10:04 am

I love complimenting people! And I’m totally gonna get my butt handed to me tonight- I took a mini vacay myself:)

  6. Therese on April 27, 2010 at 10:12 am

I can only stomach so much before a workout. Usually a banana with peanut butter is fine but I’ve also had problems with apples! Too much jostling!

I tend to go crazy before vacation so I can come back to a nice clean place. Of course, that’s usually in theory!

  7. maria on April 27, 2010 at 10:13 am

    what’s bizzle gina? lol
i’m kinda new to this blog.
does your opensky ship to canada?

      bizzle = starbucks 🙂
      yes, they ship to canada!
and welcome to the little blog <3

    1. Ok, got No. 1 covered. I floss nightly because I’m pretty obsessed with having clean teeth and avoiding cavities and periodontal disease (plus the heart disease and diabetes that are linked to it). Good luck with the laundry mountain!

  9. Paige (Running Around Normal) on April 27, 2010 at 10:21 am

Gotta love those catch up days after coming back from vacay. I hear you on the mountain of laundry. Actually, the light is out in the laundry room, and I’m actually fearful for when the husband changes the bulb LOL

  10. Jessica on April 27, 2010 at 10:23 am

I have been a poor flosser in the past, and recently began flossing every day. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my mouth and how it feels/looks. I’m hooked now, and on a day when I forget, I can tell and I don’t like it.

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 10:43 am

me too- i feel gross when i don’t floss, even though back in the day, i never flossed

  11. jen trinque on April 27, 2010 at 10:32 am

I always floss and have been trying to add more interval workouts in, so that means I get to do something nice for someone else! I just have to figure out what that’s going to be…

  12. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on April 27, 2010 at 10:32 am

I made my coworker those cupcakes…and man was he happy! It made me feel good to make someone else happy w/o expectation 🙂

  13. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on April 27, 2010 at 10:34 am

I’m giving a couple people in one of my classes banana bread, I do floss [almost] every day, now I just need to do some intervals. Maybe I’ll do that when I’m at the gym for some yoga.

  14. Heather (Heather's Dish) on April 27, 2010 at 10:39 am

i like to think that leaving operation beautiful notes counts, but i’m also going to try and bake a muffin for everyone in my office 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 10:42 am

that sounds great! operation beautiful notes are amazing, but i like the personal aspect of someone knowing that you’re doing something for them. like when that lady gave me a compliment on saturday, i remember exactly what she looked like 🙂

  15. Kilee on April 27, 2010 at 10:58 am

Wow! You do have a lot to do. I know you’ll feel great once it’s completed tonight. Power through it and thanks for the great tips this morning! I’ll add them to my to-do list 🙂

  16. La on April 27, 2010 at 11:11 am

I’m not much of a high impact fitness girl but I’ve been wanting to try to incorporate some HIIT at least once a week…Since it’s raining maybe I’ll hit up the treadmill in my basement. I *never* know what to eat before a workout so I try to schedule my meals strategically so I’m still burning that energy when I hit up the bike or the (pilates) mat, and maybe I sip some coffee if I’m feeling really low, or snack on a piece of dried fruit.
I really feel you in “doing something nice’ for someone else this week. I started off with a really crappy weekend and I came home yesterday to find my best friend in my kitchen trying to surprise me by baking me a batch of vegan cupcakes (cupcakes being an irrational emotional craving of mine that i was unable to sate due to the low availability of vegan cupcakes around). It really turned my whole day, and probably my whole week, around and now it’s my turn to pay it forward.

  17. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on April 27, 2010 at 11:13 am

Before I did P90X Plyo, I would eat at least an hour before and I was ususally fine.

  18. Chloe (Naturally Frugal) on April 27, 2010 at 11:21 am

I hate coming back from vacay to an empty fridge! The tamale does look pretty good though, do you also know how to make them?

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 11:33 am

      yes ma’am 🙂

  19. Carolyn @ lovinlosing on April 27, 2010 at 11:25 am

I’ll try to keep my eye out for an opportunity to do a random act of kindness. 🙂

  20. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on April 27, 2010 at 11:51 am

Ahhh, flossing! I need to do it!

And yay for random acts of kindness…I’ve been stuck in the house for two days because of rain and work…but I guess I could perform a RAK for my doggies! 🙂

  21. Dynamics on April 27, 2010 at 12:16 pm

Do something nice…RAWNOLA… Yeah, I made another batch and this time I doubled it. Thanks Gina.

i hate that i can be in my head so many times and think “when is good gonna come my way for once” but i think if i focused on making someone elses day- liek u said- then good would just bounce right back onto me. thank you 🙂 <3 xox

(even if it means using that little blue flosser thing!). i never did it when i had braces when i was little, so here we go! i also made raw chocolate cherry coconut bars last night (based on your post about them…i forget the cookbook). they turned out fantastic! even though i had no idea what ingredients you used or what they tasted like!! haha

  24. LindsayK on April 27, 2010 at 12:37 pm

I have to say, I’m really loving your blog more and more lately! Love these daily tips for health, fitness and happiness.

I’m wondering if you might do a post soon about protein powders – I see you using sun warrior alot, and now the Vega – I’m a vegetarian looking to add some protein powder to my diet and would love your recommendations!

glad you had fun in vegas!

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 12:46 pm

      thanks so much, lindsay! 🙂
      that’s a great idea.. i’ll do that for a reader’s request post

  26. Charlsie on April 27, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Hey Gina!! Your trip to Vegas looked banging, considering going with a girlfriend for my 21st this summer!

I attempted my first breakfast cookie (delish!) and have been following the summer shape up work out from last summer! Its been really great I have avoid the temptation of two parties filled with sugary and processed treats.

The work outs are tough but I feel so great after! Thanks a bunch!

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 1:25 pm

that’s awesome!! so glad you like the program so far 🙂
      xoxo

  27. Tina on April 27, 2010 at 1:08 pm

Ah, tamales are one of my favorite things. I’m going to have to have my mom make them for me asap 🙂

I can’t eat before working out in the am either! Not a good match!

  29. lauren on April 27, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I ate before I did the 30 day shred workout this morning. I had to stay home from work because I was so nauseous.

I’m making a version of your mustard salad later 🙂 I already made the dressing…. epic. (although I didn’t have all the garlic stuff so I just added like … 3 giant cloves lol 🙂 )

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 2:17 pm

epic?! YES! i’m so glad you liked it!

Hi Gina, your Vegas trip looked awesome. I am so jealous, I’ve never been there, and now I’m on a mission to convince the bf to vacation there soon! Anyway I love the tips today. I think I can do all three today: floss (thanks for the reminder), intervals (I’ll do it on the stationary bike later), and for the good deed, this morning I actually gave my co-worker (who just got back from her wedding) yellow tulips 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 4:18 pm

      that’s so cute!! i love tulips 🙂

  34. Ellen on April 27, 2010 at 4:03 pm

I’ve noticed lots of people have toast with a smear of PB before a big workout. Have you tried that? And eek, I definitely need to floss more!!!

    http://www.firednfabulous.blogspot.com/

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 4:18 pm

yes, i can usually eat before a workout, but insanity is SO much jumping.. anything feels heavy in my belly

  35. Jen on April 27, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Ha! That’s funny. I just bought little hand held flosser last night from Target. I hate the feeling of floss wrapped around the fingers. It is a major yuck for me. I hope having the handheld flosser will help me to floss more often!

  36. rachel on April 27, 2010 at 10:06 pm

I am doing insanity now! haha it makes me feel so out of shape. I hope it gets easier. Do you think its enough to just do insanity for 60 days with no weight sessions?? thanks!

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2010 at 10:09 pm

yup i definitely think so 🙂
