Dog beach and weekend pics

Dog beach 1 of 1

Bella is OBSESSED with the dog beach. She runs into the surf, sprints back, and for the time we’re there, she seems like she’s a young pup, instead of pushing nine like she really is. (She’s always pretty spry, but it’s like the ocean brings out her youth even more.)

Friday afternoon after the Pilot got home from work, we got ready, packed up the pups, and took a little picnic to the dog beach.

(Sea rats aka seagulls tried to steal our dinner multiple times haha)

Bella’s an old pro at the dog beach, but it was the first time taking Caro.

She was not a fan.

(The picture is blurry because she was shaking. Little miss didn’t know what to think about the ocean or the sand, just that they were scary. Sorry, Caro.)

Livi got a kick out of the dogs swimming, and of course at Bella who was running around like a crazy dog. She looked like a wet, happy, sandy mouse when left 😉

We spent Saturday morning in La Jolla. After my Barre3 class, I met the Pilot and Liv at a nearby park and we all went to our favorite spot, The Cottage, for breakfast.

I always get the Joe’s Special with gluten-free toast.

Maybe I should expand my horizons a little, but it’s SO GOOD.

Saturday night was exploring Mission Beach, fish tacos and horchata, and Sunday, relaxing here at home.

(The Beachcomber, with acai, strawberries, peaches, granola, coconut and honey. I may have planned my run so that Tiki Port was the finish line.)

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend! <3 Anything fun happen or random weekend adventures? Is Sunday a day of rest, or do you work out on Sundays?

See ya in the morning!

    • Fitnessista on April 27, 2014 at 7:23 pm

no milk! i don’t think they add banana, but i need to ask next time (so i can copy it at home). it tastes like they blend it with apple juice?

Your beach pictures are seriously killing me!

  6. Hilary on April 27, 2014 at 8:16 pm

I’ve never heard of an acai bowl but it looks delicious 🙂

  7. RachelG on April 27, 2014 at 8:38 pm

I started making acai-esq bowls at home for breakfast during the week and they have been AMAZING. I include a little vanilla almond milk and spinach with the frozen berries, and when I get to work I throw the bowl into the office freezer for a few minutes so it firms up a bit. It’s fun confusing and intriguing coworkers at the same time. lol. 🙂

That Acai bowl looks DELICIOUS! Happy Sunday 🙂

Holy moly, I want to come visit! It looks amazing there!

  11. Lindsey on April 27, 2014 at 9:12 pm

Sunday usually is a rest day for me! Back to it bright and early Monday!

  12. Jodie on April 27, 2014 at 9:15 pm

Great pics. I normally work out on Sundays but not today . Seriously bummed have been dealing with an injury for the past week so no workouts 🙁 for me.

  13. Michelle W on April 27, 2014 at 9:49 pm

Oh, The Cottage is so yummy!

I always rest on Sundays. I usually work out six times a week, with Sunday off.

This weekend I was away in Boonville (Northern California) for a wedding. It was one of the most unique and special weddings I’ve ever attended … it held in a field near redwoods in a forest and there was a square-dancing band at the reception.

    So much fun!

    Love your pics!

Glad to know Livi and Bella loved dog beach! Its great in the summer if you go early (before it gets busy) and I’m ore Bella is a lot easier to clean than my guy since she is a small dog. I used to take my guy there all the time, but now I’m a little closer to Fiesta.
Is that Pizza take out from Pizza Port?
Did you go to Belmont Park while you were in Mission Beach?
I lived in Point Loma when I first moved to San Diego and I LOVED running up to hill street and then all the way down sunset cliffs through OB before heading back up into Point Loma. Are you training for a race? I know its a short one but it would be a great one for you and Toms to do, there is a 4 mile run over the Coronado Bridge coming up on June and they give discounts to Military. Its one of the only times they allow pedestrians on the bridge. You should also think about the triple crown for next year (Carlsbad half, La Jolla Half, and America’s finest city half). So many great races out here!
Cottage is one of my favorites but I still think you would love fig tree (http://www.yelp.com/biz/fig-tree-cafe-pacific-beach) the ambiance is awesome and the huevos rancheros and crab cake bennie is to DIE FOR.
I’m excited for you that you are going to do some planning and prepping this week (I’m sure the eating out so much is starting to make you feel sluggish).

    • Lizz on April 28, 2014 at 2:23 pm

Fig Tree Cafe is great! It used to be my go-to Sunday breakfast spot. Their rosemary potatoes are amazing.
Also, if looking for more great pizza hit up Bronx Pizza. The best.

Fun times exploring a new place! I always workout Sundays. Today was a 10 mile run. Then I went to the AZ Women’s Expo. I won free tickets so had to check it out. Melissa Gilbert from Little House on the Prairie and Vikki Gunvalsen from OC Housewives were awesome keynote speakers!

  17. Vicki L. on April 27, 2014 at 10:16 pm

I had to stay off my feet a lot today, and even snuck in a short nap. I was beat from two full days at C2E2, and comic/entertainment convention here in Chicago. Yesterday I dressed up as Black Widow from the Marvel movies, and had the best time ever. Also, today was my birthday! 😀

  18. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on April 27, 2014 at 10:43 pm

I got in 8 miles this morning and then ran errands and hung around the house for most of the day. It was a nice and relaxing day!

I wish we had beaches like that around here. It looks awesome where you are!

The more I see of your pics, the more I want to pack up and move to California. So gorgeous!

Sunday is my favorite day of the week to work out! I usually take a spin class in the AM, but the last few weekends have been busy with 2 year birthday parties. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our kids! (I did get a quality run in yesterday during my daughter’s nap though, thankfully!)

  21. Meg @ A Dash of Meg on April 28, 2014 at 7:03 am

these are usually my fab posts 🙂 (along with Liv-isms!!!!!) I’d love to see a video of Bella running if you could catch it 😀 she reminds me so much of my dog, Cuddles, who we had to put down two summers ago <3

And that breakfast looks amazing. I wouldn't change it either 😉

  22. Bridget on April 28, 2014 at 7:42 am

I always workout on Sundays! I’m actually in a terrible habit of taking absolutely no rest days…. Love your blog 🙂

  23. Lucie@FitSwissChick on April 28, 2014 at 8:37 am

Oh I loved Mission Beach!! So nice!
I normally go for a long run on Sundays, but I switched it up this weekend and went on Saturday morning. I was out partying on Sat, so I needed to sleep in 🙂

Just wanted to leave this comment real quick ! San diego looks like a dream !!! I have to thank you 10000x for the last 7 weeks ive been doing the summer shape up 2013 I repeated it so it will go for 8 weeks. I have to tell you the changes ive seen are life changing. I first got into strenth training by following your first summer shape up religiously. I was in the best shape because my body changed not just the number on the scale. Then I got pregnant and followed a modified shape up plan that eventually got too exhausting at 7 months pregnant. After my baby I worked out for two years straight and finally lost the weight ! Then, I decided to start your summer shape up again because my weight was back to my prevaby but my body especially stomach was not. After 7 weeks my stomachis the flattest its been since the baby and im not afraid to work my post c section abs like I was before. Im going to go beast in the gym for this last week. I might repeat the shape up one more time im so so thankful to you!! You cant imagine the confidence ive gained in only 7 weeks cant wait to see where I.go in another 5 !

Oh my gosh that acai bowl looks so delicious!

  26. Laura on April 28, 2014 at 9:46 am

We ALWAYS take Sunday off – we work out about 6 times a week, but a planned, consistent day off to go to church, reconnect with family, friends, each other… It’s been so good for us. Love your blog!!

  27. Kelly on April 28, 2014 at 11:24 am

Love the Cottage! Here are a few other breakfast spots you should definitely check out: Snooze, The Mission, and Hash House! My favorite is the Mission, so delicious and they have two locations!

    • Stefanie E. on April 28, 2014 at 3:03 pm

Ditto on The Mission. I was there this weekend – delish!

      • Fitnessista on April 28, 2014 at 6:21 pm

i’ve had it once before and LOVED it. can’t wait to go back!

  28. Elana on April 28, 2014 at 11:32 am

Your weekend looks so fun! My boyfriend and I tried to go to the cottage on Sunday morning, unaware that the marathon was happening!!! Big mistake! It took us 30 minutes to go less then half a mile so we gave up and went to The Mission instead. Have you tried The Mission? It’s great also and there are a few locations 🙂

  29. Alexa on April 28, 2014 at 12:54 pm

PLEASE find out any info about that acai bowl (so i can copy it at home as well… :P). everything about california looks amazing, including that breakfast. do you have a post or recipe on healthy breakfast potatoes/homefries anywhere? i havent had them in forever and i think i should make them for my boyfriend when he comes to visit. i love homefries.

Girl, EVERY time I run through the ‘hood (OB) the clouds of patchouli are my companion, no matter the time of day. I guess every time is a good time for patchouli.

  31. Tracy on April 28, 2014 at 1:12 pm

We enjoyed some beautiful thunderstorms on Sunday, so it was an inside day for us. But I love a good T-storm when I don’t need to be out in it, so it a-ok with me 🙂

Do you realize how amazing it is that you can just walk down to the beach any day? My dream! I hope Caro gets used to it soon!

  32. Brynn on April 28, 2014 at 1:26 pm

I love La Jolla!! What a wonderful weekend. I have to admit, I have planned runs to end somewhere wonderful or promise myself an iced coffee if I make it through a long run. Sometimes a little reward does the trick. 🙂

  33. Martha on April 28, 2014 at 10:58 pm

If you want a great sandwich/sub in Mission Beach, go to Rubicon Deli. They have an unbelievable grilled cheese and also a great spicy tuna sandwich. The sandwiches are huge & easily shared 🙂

We actually had a nice getaway to Coronado this weekend! My husband wanted to get me out of the house since I go back to work from maternity leave next week. It was interesting traveling with our 2.5 month old, but it was a nice little trip.

  35. joelle @ on a pink typewriter on April 29, 2014 at 4:06 pm

Lady, why haven’t we hung out yet?! I loooove The Cottage – that’s my go-to order too! I think I commented that on Insta, but the Joe’s Special is really that good. Their fruit plate “appetizer” is delicious too.

Ps. Have you been to OB’s farmers’ market yet? It’s a trip haha patchouli explosion.
