Even better

Per your requests….

shoes3

7 inches, NBD.

I’m actually wearing them right now! Ok, not quite, but moccasins are close 😉

Speaking of pink and sassy,

someone got a haircut today:

bella4

So fresh and clean, and she smells like flowers.

Keeping up with the theme of the past week and a half, we laid low and chilled around the casa. The highlights were a long visit from my nana, and a package on the doorstep from my good friend Heaby:

oaties

OATIES!

I’ve had three, and they were perfect bites of chocolaty goodness. I’m going to freeze the rest for when I want a little something sweet.

Dinner tonight was courtesy of the Pilot, who made me an at-home version of my favorite Renee’s Organic Oven salad:

salad5

greens, goat cheese, avocado, cashews, sea salt, pepper and red wine vinaigrette

Sometimes when we make at-home replicas of restaurant faves, they’re good, but not quite like the original.

Some examples:

our Bobby Flay meal

mesa grill

and baigan bhartha.

baigan

Salads are a little different 😉

Do you make any staple meals at home that were restaurant-inspired?

Bed time over here.

Have a great night! <3

xoxo

Amazing job on the Winter Shape Up workouts! For an easier way to get to each week’s eating and workout details, there’s a widget on the top right of the page. (Thank you again to my web wizard for putting that up there for me!)

Something to think:

“Get going. Move forward. Aim High. Plan a takeoff. Don’t just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won’t happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude. Believe me, you’ll love it up here.”

loveloveLOVE those shoes! I am glad that they are not see through or light up… So so funny.

    • Fitnessista on January 18, 2012 at 12:59 am

they have light up ones?! amazing, haha

  3. stephreyn85 on January 18, 2012 at 1:01 am

My boyfriend definitely just took one look at those shoes and said “if Fitnessista tried it, you should too!!!” He’s never been so interested in my workout options…..

  4. Vanessa @ Swift as Shadows on January 18, 2012 at 1:01 am

No restaurant-inspired meals over here, although I’ve thought about recreating a Greek pasta dish from my favorite restaurant. Those shoes are serious business! And I love that Trump quote — going to reflect on that this week.

  5. Wendy Heath on January 18, 2012 at 1:06 am

Oh my God. I’m pretty sure I’d break something if I wore those. Something being ME…

If you’re needing a late night laugh during your feeding adventures with Livi, email me sometime and I’ll send you the story of taking my best bud out to the strip club for her bachelorette (mistakenly *not* on ladies’ night. It involves realizing the Polish Mafia were seriously running the place, among other weirdness.)

Hurray for gift packages! Yum! We made king crab legs at home a few months back… seafood is our “out to eat” love, so we splurged and improvised a steam basket with a colander…

  6. Kilee on January 18, 2012 at 1:18 am

I love recreating my favorite restaurant meals at home! They make for some really good dinners or turn out to be a flop. Have a great night!

  7. Darien on January 18, 2012 at 1:35 am

the gf mongolian beef from pf changs…its never as good as the real deal, but its cheaper and still pretty darn delicious. plus, we can make it SPICY. also, the gf chicken lettuce there. lets be real- pf changs rocks my socks. oh, and the sweet chili salmon from kona grill. WIN.

I have a friend that is seriously into pole dancing for fitness. I can’t believe the things she can do. Her upper body strength is unbelievable… Those shoes are….(words fail). At least they would make you taller?

I often recreate restaurant meals at home, usually with great success. I got better at it when I rediscovered real butter. I think this is the secret – lots of fat. Sad, but true.

  9. Em (Wine and Butter) on January 18, 2012 at 2:08 am

I love recreating restaurant meals!! And salads are the best because I can almost always improve them. I have a lot of salad experience.

Also re-creating cheap chain restaurant meals is the best way to stop going to them I’ve found – you can almost always make the stuff better and then you realise thats even cheaper!! 🙂

I’ve just started reading your blog and really love going through the archives. Congratualtions Lady! 🙂

  10. Emily on January 18, 2012 at 3:10 am

    That salad sounds really satisfying!
I don’t usually try to recreate restaurant meals exactly, but I frequently get inspired by ideas or flavor combinations. I do have a few cookbooks by chefs which I’ve made dishes from, but I’ve never had the opportunity to eat in their actual restaurants….so far!

  11. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on January 18, 2012 at 3:21 am

Bella’s bow matches the shoes 🙂 She’s so cute and fluffy and I bet smells good!

And what a sweet package from Heather. You probably know this already but oats are a lactogenic food, i.e. they encourage milk supply. So eat up 🙂

  12. Juliane @ C'est moi à Paris on January 18, 2012 at 6:15 am

I think there might be other occasions when those shoes come in handy… 😉

  13. Hillary on January 18, 2012 at 7:05 am

Oh, Gina. Those shoes are just priceless. I have no other words!

  14. Suzanne on January 18, 2012 at 7:10 am

We’ve replicated a lot of pizzas. Like the arugula, prosciutto, fig, and Parmesan one from a local place.
Actually, they also had olive tapenade on it, but I thought that was overkill, and I’m not a big olive fan.
    Lots of interesting flavors!

I am planning on trying some tikka masala this week, and then saag next. Mmmm….Indian Food…

  16. Morgan on January 18, 2012 at 7:58 am

I make a killer ‘Denny’s” inspired hangover omelet for mornings when we celebrated too crazy the night before… 🙂
WSU is AWESOME so far btw!!!

  17. HRCK the Herald on January 18, 2012 at 8:03 am

    Those shoes are hawt. 🙂

I tried to replicate cookie dough egg rolls once from a Nashville restaurant once and it was a major soggy flop.

  18. Brooke on January 18, 2012 at 8:33 am

My husband makes a chicken cobb salad that is inpsired by the Not Your Average Joe’s salad. His version is almost better! PS. Love Bellas haircut 🙂

  19. KariLynne10 on January 18, 2012 at 8:44 am

Those shoes are hilarious! And amazing! hahahah

  20. Kelly @ Vegolosophy on January 18, 2012 at 9:17 am

I recently made some Pad Thai! It was super good, but not as good as our favorite Thai spot…but close 🙂

  21. Lisa @ Fresh Spinach on January 18, 2012 at 9:39 am

That’s how my husband and I invented our own version of spinach and feta enchiladas. We don’t make them anymore, though, since we’re vegan now. But we did make a vegan version with kale and squash. So yummy!

  22. chelsea on January 18, 2012 at 10:05 am

You guys are doing a phenomenal job already balancing your parenting life with normality again. I know some bloggers that after they have a kid disappear for awhile (not that I blame them). I’m so proud of you guys!

  23. Chelsa on January 18, 2012 at 10:33 am

Bella looks beautiful all clean and fresh!

  24. Michaela on January 18, 2012 at 10:42 am

    those shoes… wow 😉
It is so lovely you are surrounded by so many people who support and love you 🙂

  25. Heather Eats Almond Butter on January 18, 2012 at 10:59 am

Haha, cracking up at the shoes. Are those your pole dancers? Oh my gosh, I could not even walk in those, much less dance!

I’ve tried to recreate so many restaurants salads at home, but they are never as good. Can’t ever get the dressing to salad ratio quite right, and I think there are a few herbs or something missing.

Oaties – they freeze really well. So glad you’re enjoying them. 🙂

  26. Steffany on January 18, 2012 at 11:04 am

OMG @ those shoes !! hahaha I would definitely tumble over, LOL !!

  27. Laura (On the Threshold of Greatness) on January 18, 2012 at 11:16 am

Love those shoes, ha! Did you ever see the Ice Loves Coco clip of Coco doing squats in heels? http://twitpic.com/ts7ef That’s exactly what you do, right? 😉

  28. Erica on January 18, 2012 at 11:25 am

Oh.My.Word. Those shoes! Crazy HIGH!! While I think they are cute, I would never EVER attempt to wear such things because 1) I am already 5’11” and that would make me look uber-ridiculous, and 2) I would definitely fall down and break something, probably an ankle or an arm. But go YOU, Momma!

I know you are exhausted and exhilarated all at once, I remember that feeling of newborn bliss! Before you know it, it will be toddler bliss, then school age bliss, and then my child is driving bliss…ok, well, maybe Tyler driving has not brought so much bliss as it has stress, but you get my drift. Every stage has is blessings and is amazing. God bless you and your little family, G. <3 <3 <3

heck yes!! chicken satay FTW!! well, chicken for the hubs, seitan satay for me. SO MUCH better for me and my wallet. Also? fairly certain my kitchen is clean as our fave thai place was graded C!! I mean, my hubs is Chinese, if our kids came home with a C they’d be in Sylvan so fast…

  31. BirdsNest101 on January 18, 2012 at 11:37 am

Recreating food at home is so much fun! I recreated my favorite lettuce wraps from P.F. Changs the other night. I renamed them, J.F. V* Lettuce Wraps! (*cant just put my last name out there, it is the internet and all)

  32. Liz @ Southern Charm on January 18, 2012 at 11:49 am

BAHAHAAAA. I literally laughed out loud when I saw those shoes … I’m surprised I have done something like that yet! Love it!

There is this one sandwich at a local restaurant that I LOVE – eggplant, mozerella, roasted red peppers, arugula and katamila olives served on fococcia. It’s heaven. I have tried many times to remake it, but it is just not the same 🙁 I’d love to know their secret! haha.

  33. Alyssa on January 18, 2012 at 11:58 am

Do you have the recipe for your baigan bhartha? It’s my favorite Indian dish and I use a recipe from Manjula’s Kitchen but it just doesn’t seem to do it for me.

    • Fitnessista on January 18, 2012 at 3:28 pm

i just used one i found online, and it was nowhere near as good as the restaurant versions

  34. Laury on January 18, 2012 at 1:54 pm

Okay. I need those shoes. My girlfriend and I are taking pole fitness…well we did a long time ago, then I got pregnant and I want to take them again! So fun! The fact that I have a baby now though, I better be careful about breaking my neck :/

    Hope you’re feeling well!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Fitnessista on January 18, 2012 at 3:26 pm

what size do you wear? i’ll send them to you, haha

  35. natalie @ southern fit foodie on January 18, 2012 at 3:06 pm

OMG – those shoes! I am going to my first “eccentric fitness” class tomorrow night, and I so wish I had those shoes hahaha.

We definitely recreate restaurant meals at home (fish tacos!). Sometimes they aren’t quite as great, but others turn out even better.

  36. Courtney on January 18, 2012 at 3:54 pm

Those pole dancing shoes are SMOKIN!

  37. Sawsquatch on January 18, 2012 at 4:09 pm

Congrats on the little one! She’s beautiful!

I teach Pole for fitness and I’m glad to hear you tried it! It’s not for everyone, but it does provide great strength training, cardio and sexy back. Most of my clients are women in their late 20s to mid 50s.

I’ve had several women start after having babies since they struggled to find their “sexy” and this was a great way to do it!

I’m glad you said something because I was thinking of e-mailing you about it….

Oh my goodness, those shoes are fabulous haha 😀 I honestly think I would break my ankle or face plant after the first step! Love finding recipe inspiration from restaurants but it never tastes quite the same- there’s something special about someone else making your meal!

  41. Paula @ lipstick and lunges on January 18, 2012 at 6:44 pm

OMG those are fantastically stripperish. I take it you didn’t stick with the pole dancing classes 🙂
For my bachelorette party we did a pole dancing class, I had always wanted to try it and thought it was be the perfect time. It was a riot and I have to say all those upper body days at the gym paid off when it came time to spin on the pole!

  42. Tracy on January 18, 2012 at 8:22 pm

This is kinda random but I’ve always wanted to ask you where you found your awesome salad beast bowl? It looks like the perfect size and shape and you obviously use it for salads often so you must agree!?! I’d love to know where to buy one. Thanks!!
