Hi! How’s your day going? So glad you liked the standing core workout. <3 Let me know if you give it a try!

Last night, Livi asked if we could have our dinner outside on the patio. The Pilot had grilled up some wild salmon with olive tapenade, and we enjoyed it al fresco with the spiced potatoes I’d made + grilled zucchini. I also got sucked into Giuliana and Bill (such a heartbreaking episode this week) and a Shark Tank. There are very few TV shows I’m into (Scandal is one of them!) but Shark Tank. I love it.

We also noticed that there’s a pomegranate tree in the yard! Cute little crowns:

This morning was pretty chill. We enjoyed breakfast, hung out around the house and packed snacks to take over to Whitney’s house. Check out her awesome chicken coop:

I think I would love having chickens -and fresh eggs!- but I’m not sure how Bell would deal with it. She gets along with dogs and cats extremely well, but I could see her terrorizing the poor chickens.

Some Glow juices for Whit and myself + fruit for the babies:

and the star of the show was this zucchini bread.

Chocolate zucchini bread 1 of 1

I used this recipe from PaleOMG and will definitely be making it again. It has a glorious texture and rich chocolate flavor. (I also added some chocolate chips in there.)

This zucchini bread made me think of some of the staple dishes I’ve made from other bloggers, so I thought I’d share the list of my all-time faves.

These are some of my go-to recipes:

Black bean burgers (awesome for when we have parties or BBQs with our vegetarian friends. I prefer them over turkey or chicken burgers, too)

Salsa (the best!!)

Flour-free pancake

Paleo bread

Banana soft serve

Are there any blogger recipes in your regular rotation? Please share the link love! I always enjoy trying new ones 🙂

Have a great night <3

xoxo

Scandal is amazing. I blew through seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix earlier this year and when season 3 came on Netflix, I finished it in 4 days. Don’t judge 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2014 at 12:52 pm

no judgment. applause and cheers haha 🙂

  2. Mia on June 4, 2014 at 7:46 pm

I’m so excited to try all of these! Just tried the standing core workout (at work 😛 ) btw, and it was much harder work than I imagined. In a good way! I’ve been looking for something I can run away to do in the middle of the day at work and this is perfect because it doesn’t require me to touch the floor with my hands or make too much noise. Thank you, thank you!

  3. Erin on June 4, 2014 at 7:52 pm

OMG I would love to have chickens! The fresh eggs would be amazing and I think I would really enjoy taking care of them….and maybe a few goats. 🙂 I just love animals in general, I guess. Sadly, where I live has a very strict HOA. Maybe it’s time to move, or maybe the HOA is just keeping me from ending up on an episode of animal hoarders, lol!

That bread looks delicious, I will have to try it. And that black bean burger recipe. I have been making my own burgers for a while now & I have been wanting something new for the summer bbqs…this sounds perfect. Thank you!! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2014 at 12:52 pm

haha! that’s how our house was in tucson. our HOA wouldn’t let us do anything :/

  4. Giselle@myhealthyhappyhome on June 4, 2014 at 7:57 pm

We just discovered we have a pomegranate tree at our house too! Also three plum trees, an orange and an apple tree. Plus a few mystery ones….
I want a chicken coop so bad but like you worry about what our dog will do. I think he would actually try to dig is way in there. Although he listens pretty well so maybe he wouldn’t… I need to do a trial run somewhere. But who would volunteer to put their chickens up for that!?!

I love the veggie burgers from this vegan blog girl SO MUCH. I make them for meat eaters all the time and everyone always loves them. http://ohsheglows.com/2011/07/13/our-perfect-veggie-burger/ Try them. Don’t bother with her bbq chickpea burger recipe, tastes blah and falls apart, but this one is amazing. I also love that banana soft serve, for mine I add a dash of almond milk, a huge spoonful of dark cocoa powder, and a spoonful of natural creamy pb. Sooo good. Try them!

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2014 at 12:51 pm

i will definitely try them! angela always has amazing recipes

I love PaleOMG’s original banana bread too – so amazing! I just saw that Juli is actually going to be in San Diego (Mission Valley Costco, I think) to do a book signing for her new cookbook in a couple of weekends. I’m super excited – thought I’d let you know!

Zucchini bread has been on my to-make list forever but I haven’t found a recipe that I liked yet. But this one’s got cocoa powder so it’s an instant win haha
Definitely gonna check out the black bean recipe as well 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!

That salmon looks delicious! What a perfect dinner!
We also enjoy Shark Tank from time to time. I’m fascinated by people just going out and inventing something, and then the whole business aspect (that I have no idea about).
Thanks for sharing the recipes! Gotta love a great recipe.

I’m a fan of immaeatthat’s sweet potato hummus dip and have made it many, many times: http://immaeatthat.com/2013/01/25/super-simple-sweet-potato-superbowl-dip/

I love getting recipes from bloggers! Especially since you can read the comments to see what worked/didnt’ for people who actually made it!

My go to’s include the flour-free pancake (at least 2 times a week lol), overnight oats: http://www.pbfingers.com/2012/01/09/how-to-make-overnight-oats/ , this microwaved oatmeal: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/recipes/perfect-microwave-banana-oatmeal/ (it’s so easy and fast). and for snacks: these: http://fitnessista.com/2012/04/banana-almond-muffins/ – like every week, and granola bars: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/recipes/no-bake-peanut-butter-granola-bars/

I also recently picked up the Oh She Glows cookbook and am working my way through that (the Mango-Strawberry Guac is ah-mazing!)

I don’t cook often, so not many “regular” recipes, but the BREAKFAST COOKIE is a must every Saturday before I teach double classes 😀 I recently discovered Trader Joe’s peanut butter chips and they make a lovely addition on top!

Speaking of Scandal…you MUST order the Camilla red wine glasses aka “Scandal glasses”. They will likely be on backorder but I got mine as a bday gift and cannot wait for the season to start…I know you love your wine and drinking it in these glasses (while watching the show) will make it feel extra special (and fancy)…!

I usually like recipes from skinny taste.com and handletheheat.com (she also follows your blog).

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2014 at 6:20 pm

ok, i’m ordering them 😉 also, did you know that kerry washington doesn’t drink wine? i was bummed when i found that out because in my mind she really is olivia pope haha

      • Erika S. on June 5, 2014 at 7:26 pm

Forgot to give you all the info….Camille glasses from Crate & Barrel.

I’m sure you & I drink enough to make up for Kerry 🙂

          i googled it haha 🙂
i think you’re totally accurate in that statement.
