fear the froyo suit

Hi! Happy Tuesday! I’m stoked you guys enjoyed the first IDEA post. My second one will be up later today; so many pictures and adventures to share!

Since the Pilot worked late last night, Livi and I had a date together. We had dinner, went to Home Goods

Home goods

(check out ALL THAT HALLOWEEN)

and Menchie’s. That’s how we like to party 😉

Menchies

For the record, the Menchie’s ice cream suit is what toddler nightmares are made of.

The fear

Poor Liv was NOT a fan. I even think it made me lose her ice cream appetite because she asked for a balloon, and to go home, very shortly after CreepyFroyoDude2014.

Nightly class of red:

Vino 1 of 1

Spin class last night was amaaaazing. I’m only teaching one spin class each week and I always look forward to it. This week, I was so stoked to use the new Class Tamer app:

Class tamer

(the class got a kick out of the “whip” and “bike bell” sound effects I used)

Post spin

and a recently pimped playlist, thanks to Jeffrey Scott. I added “Barracuda” by Fergie, an awesome “What a Feeling” Remix and this song:

I also had a doc appointment yesterday morning. Breakfast cookie dough cereal for the road:

Bfast cereal

They had Let’s Make a Deal playing in the waiting area and it’s the first time I’ve seen it! It reminded me of when I’d be home sick in middle and high school and basically watch TV and sleep all day. (Just typing “watch TV and sleep all day” made me drool a little.) Back in the day, I thoroughly enjoyed Wedding Story, A Baby Story (even though it moderately terrified me) and Regis and Kelly. Anyway, good news on the thumb front: no surgery! I did sever some nerves, which is why my thumb feels dead, but they said that time will help the nerves to grow back and heal. Like I said before, we will rebuild 😉 Bonus: I got a referral for acupuncture, so I’ll get to see a new practitioner. (If you live in Tucson, go see Larry or Josh at Tucson Community Acupuncture; they’re amazing.)

Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

xoxo

Gina

Something to do: This circuit workout! It’s a quick strength and cardio frenzy. Last time I did this one, I was drenched in sweat.

I used to love staying home sick to watch Regis and Kelly too! It will never be the same without Regis though, but I do enjoy Kelly and Michael sometimes !

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 10:48 am

i really like michael, but i feel like kelly and the show are entirely different now. regis was the best!

  2. jodie on August 19, 2014 at 8:33 am

Thats great news on your finger. So glad no surgery. Awww poor Livi. Thanks for the IDEA recap.
Maybe when I visit San Diego I can take one of your classes. Have a great day.

  3. Britt@MyOwnBalance on August 19, 2014 at 8:37 am

Glad you don’t need surgery! Hope it feels better soon. I still watch Kelly and Michael when I’m home from work!

  4. Katie @ Talk Less, Say More on August 19, 2014 at 8:41 am

I NEVER liked those dressed up suit guys, except for Mickey/Minney/etc at Disney… 😉

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 10:48 am

that’s how liv is, too. at disney, she only really loves the characters that still look human

  5. kristin @ W [H] A T C H on August 19, 2014 at 8:52 am

home goods and froyo is the stuff dreams are made of.

  6. Brynn on August 19, 2014 at 9:10 am

So glad to hear you don’t need surgery! And yes, those suits are super terrifying – not just to kids either.

  7. Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes on August 19, 2014 at 9:16 am

Love that you end the night with a glass of red wine. That’s the best way to do it 🙂

  8. Erin @ Her Heartland Soul on August 19, 2014 at 9:34 am

Ahh it is too early for Halloween! Stores need to slow down. I’m still in summer mode.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 10:47 am

same, but i love halloween and fall stuff!

  9. Chelsea @ BigBitesLittleBudget on August 19, 2014 at 9:39 am

Froyo is still the greatest…even if there are creepy froyo me (:

  10. Maureen on August 19, 2014 at 9:51 am

Poor Liv! CreepyFroyoDude2014 did however make me laugh out loud. I’m sure a huge relief for you that you don’t need surgery! Great news!

  11. Allison on August 19, 2014 at 9:59 am

Hate to be a negative nancy……but I cringe a little whenever I see anyone eating frozen yogurt.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 10:41 am

i love food babe and her posts, but if i took everything she wrote super seriously, i’d be afraid to eat anything! i think a little froyo every now and again is NBD

  12. Allie on August 19, 2014 at 10:04 am

Oh my gosh, the Menchie’s man really is scary! I don’t blame Liv for wanting to get out of here!

  13. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on August 19, 2014 at 10:08 am

I’m with Liv on the creepy characters. I hate clowns even to this day. They are terrifying to me!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 10:46 am

i don’t think i’ve met a small child that LIKES clowns. whose idea was that?? haha

  14. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on August 19, 2014 at 10:28 am

Poor Livi! I think I’d be scared of that froyo guy too! Haha. So glad to hear your spin class went so well! I’m sure it was a blast. And GREAT news about your thumb. Let’s just hope the nerves decide to heal sooner rather than later. xo

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 10:46 am

      thank you, friend!

  15. Erin on August 19, 2014 at 10:48 am

I used to watch Wedding Story and Baby Story on TLC too when I was home sick! Also, Unsolved Mysteries (which terrified me if I was home alone) and Passions, the most amazingly ridiculous soap opera in the history of the world. This all sounds so nice, maybe I have a “mental health day” in my near future….

  16. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on August 19, 2014 at 11:08 am

Yay for no surgery, happy to hear that 🙂

  17. Angela on August 19, 2014 at 11:37 am

I love getting some spin songs from SYTYCD! It’s great inspiration.

  18. Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run on August 19, 2014 at 12:14 pm

Yes, give your thumbs LOTS of time to health. Like I said, it’s been 10+ months and my nerves that were also severed aren’t 100%, but they are SOOO much better.

“The body will heal itself, given the chance.”

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:47 pm

thank you, hillary! glad to hear that yours are much better. when you’re in it, it feels like it will never feel normal again

  19. Nicole @ Squash on Squash on August 19, 2014 at 1:24 pm

Whoa whoa whoa the halloween stuff is out ALREADY?! It’s August!!! That’s scary… although, not quite as scary as that Froyo mascot. Looks like something from a children’s horror movie (if that existed).
    hope your recovery goes well!

  20. Alex @ True Femme on August 19, 2014 at 1:25 pm

That ice cream suit is what my nightmares are made of. I don’t like people in costumes that cover their whole bodies and faces–it totally freaks me out! Mascots at sports games? Clowns? Forget it, I can’t do it.

  21. Ashley @ Sweet carolina belle on August 19, 2014 at 1:32 pm

How to you make it through teaching spin in shorts? I always end up with horrible chafing when I wear shorts. Hope your doctor appointment went well.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:46 pm

i usually teach spin in shorts or capris. shorts don’t seem to bother me!
      thank you!

  22. Domi @ Eat, Pray, Lift on August 19, 2014 at 1:52 pm

Yay for thumbkin being ok! That samba video reminds of the new Step Up movie…saw it yesterday and of course the plot was a fondue pot of cheeeeeese, acting was horrible…but the dancing was on fire. On fiiiiire. I may already have plans to rent it for girls night as soon as it’s out. 😉

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:45 pm

ahhhh! i can’t wait to see it!

  23. Jay on August 19, 2014 at 2:27 pm

Creepy Froyo-dude made me laugh out lout. My little one has made me leave plenty of restaurants thanks to “cute” dressed up characters! 🙂 Glad your finger is ok.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:45 pm

      thank you, jay!

  24. Tracy on August 19, 2014 at 2:33 pm

Poor Liv! I hope she’s not afraid to go back! You’ll have to go back really soon to make sure she has a positive experience 😉

    Congrats on the nerve report!!!!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:45 pm

i asked her today if she wanted to go back and she said no. poor girl!
      thank you <3

  25. Heather @ Housewife Glamour on August 19, 2014 at 2:36 pm

I’m so glad to hear the thumb “will rebuild” 😉 And wow… that froyo suit does have a certain built-in creep factor to it. Also, HALLOWEEN? I’m just not ready… and I love the new design! xo

  26. Alicia on August 19, 2014 at 2:39 pm

yay for not needing surgery! For acupuncture I see Riley at Chirpractique (in North Park, http://chiropractiquesd.com/) and he is amazing!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:44 pm

      amazing- thank you!

  27. Amanda on August 19, 2014 at 2:43 pm

    Hi Gina!

I know you try and stay away from dairy..but when you go out for ice cream/fro yo, do you splurge on the real thing? I have mixed feelings about dairy because although I love it, I sometimes notice my stomach doesn’t always react well. When I do eat ice cream though, there’s nothing like the taste of the real cream/milk they use!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:44 pm

for ice cream, i get the real thing. for froyo, i’ll get whatever sorbet they have (menchie’s has vegan options)
i’ll just get a small serving and know that my stomach will probably not feel great, or my face will break out a little. sometimes it’s worth it 😉

  28. Molly on August 19, 2014 at 3:48 pm

What are your favorite affordable red wines?

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:42 pm

apothic, i thee red, alamos malbec, jam jar shiraz (very sweet like a dessert wine), grifone sangiovese
if it’s red, i’ll drink it 🙂 those are the ones i pick up regularly though!

  29. Betsy on August 19, 2014 at 4:33 pm

Ugh! I am so bummed I missed spin class last night! I was completely planning on going, but my poor little man broke his finger and we spent 7 glorious hours at Children’s yesterday.

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:40 pm

i saw your instagram!! i hope he’s ok!! :/ poor guy. hopefully i’ll see you at the gym later this week!

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:39 pm

    • Fitnessista on August 19, 2014 at 6:39 pm

      hahah seriously! thank you 🙂

  34. Giselle on August 19, 2014 at 10:59 pm

Regis and Kelly was the best! I totally thought I would watch it all the time when I became a SAHM but now I never watch it.
Ayden would have freaked about that froyo dude too! He’s afraid of everything though including the movie Frozen. Probably the only kid who didn’t like that movie! I don’t blame him though, the snow monster was scary!
Did they have the Christmas stuff out at Home Goods? I went to Hobby Lobby a month ago and they has over 10 aisles of Christmas decor already! Crazy!

    • Fitnessista on August 20, 2014 at 8:05 pm

that is insane! hobby lobby is way too fast with that stuff

  35. hayley maher on August 20, 2014 at 6:43 am

great news on the thumb! And the froyo looked delish pity about the creepy ice cream man!

  36. Amalia on August 21, 2014 at 2:05 pm

I’ve heard a lot of great things about the how to pimp your playlist workshop! I wish I was there. That ice cream man is terrifying and I don’t blame her for being scared of him!! I think I would have been too.

  37. Erin on August 21, 2014 at 2:26 pm

Your stay home sick routine reminded me so much of my stay home sick routine. I loved A Wedding Story! I can still sing the theme song. Some of the couples on the Baby Story were a little …strange 🙂
