Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday!! What’s going on this weekend?

It’s going to be a good one, because we’re headed to VEGAS, baby. I’m so excited to catch up with San Diego friends, cheer for the Wildcats, and have some fun. If you have any recommendations for new restaurants or activities, I’d love to hear them!! The dinner we had at Craft Steak last time was LEGENDARY. We’ll definitely brunching at our beloved Mon Ami Gabi (<— the best), too.

Vegas Strip

Pool party

I’ll be sharing the fun on IG and Snapchat this weekend if you’d like to follow along. 🙂

So what are you up to? Any fun events planned? What’s on the fitness schedule? For the first time in a while (I’ve been really into taking classes since I’m teaching so sporadically right now), I’ll be doing my own thing at the hotel gym. You know, in between napping at the pool and drinking Bloody Marys. #wheninvegas

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web! I always love to hear what you’re enjoying if you’d like to join in the fun in the comments section.

Family dinners made by Chef Eric. He came over for Sunday night family dinner, and we cooked up edamame, bonita flake tofu,

crispy chicken fingers (for the kiddos), Asian salmon, jasmine rice, and ribs with a sake-soy reduction.

Ribs

Cooking w uncle e

(Shirt is here. One of my new faves.)

I love getting to be his sous chef. He cracks up when he asks me to do something I’ve obviously never done. (Like squeezing the breadcrumbs onto the chicken so they wouldn’t curl when they cooked. It’s weird, but it works. When I bread chicken, I usually just get it over with as quickly as possible.)

Confessions of a Registered Dietitian.

My firstborn did not prepare me for my wild child. I’m in unchartered territory here, friends. P climbed out of her crib AGAIN and I’m so thankful this house has carpet in her room. Looks like a “big girl bed” isn’t too far away after all.

I need these cupcakes in my life.

How the Instant Pot developed a cult following. I still use the Instant Pot at least once or twice a week, and am pretty sure the obsession will never die.

Pool day! We met up with Sarah and her fam for an afternoon swimming. Liv splashed and swam her heart out, and P just wanted to snuggle and be held in the water. I hadn’t seen Sarah for years, so it was a lot of fun to catch up with her and her husband, and meet Logan.

Livi’s obsession with Trail Dust Town.

Tom and the girls at Trail Dust Town

I really wanted take to the girls on a fun adventure before we left, and Livi requested Trail Dust Town. I never would have thought we’d spend as much time there as we do, but the girls are the perfect age for it and absolutely loving the kitschy rides and Old West-inspired activities.

Me and liv at trail dust

They rode the carousel, covered wagon Ferris wheel, the train, ran around, and had a great time.

These are such good days. <3

The top 37 things you’ll regret when you’re old.

I don’t even love this song (sorry!!) but I LOVE this version. John Legend, you are so nice.

Tips to save time and money at Trader Joe’s.

Happy happy Friday, friends!

Vegas! So fun! We are headed to Fruita, CO for a weekend of mountain biking and 70 degree weather.

Oh my goodness, those tiny jellies are TOO cute! My little brother started climbing out of his crib when he was 8-9 months old. My mom super baby proofed his room and started using a floor bed (just a mattress on the floor, although they do have frames for floor beds on Etsy too.) We’re using one for our son from the start, and loving it so far! (I talk about it here if you’re curious: http://montessoriishmom.com/2017/02/14/thoughts-on-a-floor-bed/ ).

Have a wonderful time in Vegas! I’ve never been there, but it sounds super fun and relaxing 🙂

i was thinking about doing that when we move. i just have to make sure there’s NOTHING she can get into and all of the furniture is bolted down. and we’ll probably have to put one of those childproof door handles on the door

OMG – have so much fun! I LOVE Vegas and have always had the best time there. When I was with some friends in August, we discovered HEXX Kitchen, which has amazing brunch and bottomless mimosas. Just do it. P.S. How GOOD does your hair look in Vegas? And if not, your beloved Blow Dry Bar is located in the Planet Hollywood mall hahah!

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2017 at 4:22 pm

Hey Gina! where are your beige sandals from? Love them!! Btw you have such a good taste for clothes, because in almost any post you’re wearing something I like, haha.

So jealous of your Vegas trip!! Looks like you’re having a blast. And I’m super jealous you’re wearing shorts. I was wearing a t-shirt yesterday & today we had a snow storm… lol!

Have fun in Vegas! We only went once. We loved grabbing delicious, inexpensive breakfast at this little Mexican restaurant right on the strip. I forget the name but it is very close to M&M world. They have “breakfast margaritas” on the menu, soooo…… Also, don’t waste your time or money eating at Chef Ramsay’s Steak restaurant in Paris. Total disappointment.

    Those jellies, tho 🙂

  9. Ashton on March 10, 2017 at 11:51 am

Giada’s restaurant in the Cromwell was delish! The brussels were insane. Holstein’s and eggslut in Cosmopolitan are fab too. Have a great time!

Was just there last weekend! We thought the breakfast buffet at the Wynn was really great, highly recommended. And also liked Herringbone at the Aria for dinner. We didn’t get to check out this list, but I just recommend planning meals around it 😉 http://vegas.eater.com/maps/best-doughnuts-las-vegas

Vegas! Fun. I’ve only been there once, for a bachelorette party, in July… and that was just about enough for me to last a lifetime. But I also feel like if the opportunity arose (NOT in July), I’d probably go again 😉

My Friday Favorite is FINALLY being able to tell more people I’m pregnant after everything looked great at our 12 week ultrasound yesterday! 🙂

If you can get in, you have to go to Giada’s restaurant. We went there on our honeymoon when it first opened and it. was. incredible. Seriously amazing and we even got to meet her! Guy Fierri’s restaurant ( get the lettuce wraps) was also good. The Link & cupcake ATM (amazing) were awesome! There are some good restaurants in that area too. Penn and Teller was fantastic if you’re looking for a show. My husband and I went there on our honeymoon almost three years ago. Have fun!

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2017 at 4:21 pm

ahhhhh that’s so cool you got to meet her!! we had reservations late one night but ended up changing them. i really want to try it!

Love Vegas!! One of my all time favs is Tao- the Sea bass is to die for. Giada’s is good, but I prefer Carbone (only if you are a pasta-lover). Best part is the limoncello at the end of the meal. Eggslut- so good, but have to go early to avoid the long lines. But you really can’t beat that mon ami gabi brunch:) I would eat there every darn day if I could.

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2017 at 4:21 pm

we LOVE tao. and i can’t believe they got an eggslut there! we need to try it next time.
and yes to mon ami. probably one of my favorite breakfast spots ever

  14. Julia on March 10, 2017 at 5:23 pm

Seeing Giada’s coming up in a few comments… Everything was delish for me EXCEPT the pasta, but many other courses to choose. We loved Morimoto in MGM Grand! There was a yellowtail something-bap (not bibimbap, but similar and can’t remember exactly!) that I am still dreaming about 🙂

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2017 at 4:19 pm

we had reservations there but ended up changing them. i definitely want to try it next time we go back!

I was just in Vegas last weekend 🙂 We went to a Backstreet Boys concert at Planet Holleywood and it was SO SO SO good! All my teenage dreams came true haha. We loved breakfast at The Cracked Egg that is a couple miles from the strip. Enjoy your trip!

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2017 at 4:20 pm

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2017 at 4:20 pm

yes, it was so easy! you just cub the tofu and coat it with bonita flakes and eat it raw. we had wasabi and the soy-sake sauce for dipping

  18. Alyssa on March 11, 2017 at 12:32 pm
