Friday Faves

Hi friends! The weekend is here! What’s going on this weekend? I’m sending lots of safe wishes to my friends who are in Hurricane Irma’s potential path, and prayers to those who have already been affected. We’ve been spending some time getting supplies ready around here, and are really hoping we don’t need to use them. So many friends have emailed to make sure they haven’t missed barre bootcamp signup. Due to the hurricane situation, I’m going to wait to begin barre bootcamp signups until September 18, and we’ll start the bootcamp party on the 25th. Stay tuned for an email with more details coming up so you can grab your spot. I hope all of my friends stay safe this weekend and next week. <3

Rain boots

(The girls are obsessed with wearing their rain boots… rain or shine. Mermaid here and ladybug here)

In standard Friday Fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always look forward to sharing some favorite reads, eats, wears, and random little joys from the week, and love to hear what you’re enjoying, too. Please shout out something you’re loving in the comments section!

Pumpkin spice latte returns. I told the Pilot that I’m dragging all of the Halloween stuff in the next week. He tried to convince me otherwise, but I think he sometimes forgets how long he’s known me. I respect his “honor the bird” wishes by waiting on the Christmas decor (for the most part), but the second the first pumpkin spice latte hits Starbucks, I’m over here like:

Speaking of pumpkin spice lattes, today marks 7 weeks since my last caffeinated beverage. I had to cut it out the day of my surgery, and haven’t had caffeinated drinks since then. I just get decaf almond milk lattes and drink lots of herbal tea. I’m not going to say I’ll never have it again, but for now, it’s working for me. I’ve noticed that my anxiety has really decreased over the past 7 weeks, for lots of reasons, but think that ditching the morning jolt has made a positive impact.

Love this collection of lettuce wrap recipes.

If you’re afraid of cauliflower in your smoothie (I was, too!) here’s a great way to try it out.

Just a casual Target shopping trip.

September workout playlist! SO many energy-pumping songs.

Thank you so much to Samantha Lefave for including me in her amazing, thorough article about post-baby fitness. Check it out here!

So I’m trying to pick out an outfit for an upcoming formal event for the Pilot’s work. After checking some options online without any luck, I think I’m going to give Rent the Runway another whirl. Fingers crossed…

I’d love to hear your thoughts or if you’ve seen any pretty formal dresses online anywhere!

Hope you have a wonderful Friday.

All of those dresses are so beautiful. I am looking forward to hearing about your experience with rent the runway. This week, cooler temperatures and open windows and lots of outside play time has been my savior.

yes, the weather has been gorgeous lately! have a great weekend <3

  2. Christina @ montessoriishmom.com on September 8, 2017 at 7:23 am

I love dress # 2! All so pretty though 🙂 I am so impressed you’ve given up caffein with two young kids! I used to periodically give it up, but honestly can’t imagine doing that right now, even though I’m sure it would feel amazing (after a few days). Happy Friday!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:41 am

yeah it feels good to not be dependent on it! the first few day were rough -i had some intense headaches- but at least i was on painkillers from the surgery so it made it not so bad haha

  3. Beth on September 8, 2017 at 7:24 am

I love #4! Looks like the dress Julia Roberts wore to the opera in Pretty Woman!

    • Charlsie N on September 8, 2017 at 8:42 am

This was my exact thought too!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:39 am

      ahhhh it does!!

  4. Shannon on September 8, 2017 at 7:36 am

    I vote for dresses 1 or 3!

Totally admire you ditching the caffeine. I don’t know if I could do it.

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:39 am

it wasn’t by choice hahaha. but i’m doing ok without it, surprisingly

  5. Kaitlyn on September 8, 2017 at 8:07 am

I actually wore dress #3 (in blue) to a wedding last weekend and LOVED it! It was super comfortable and flattering :).

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:39 am

      so awesome to hear!

  6. Sam @ G&G Nutrition Co. on September 8, 2017 at 8:23 am

We were just talking about RTR at work! One of my coworkers was supposed to get a dress delivered this weekend so we are waiting to see how it turns out. I’m super short and have a hard time finding things to fit me, so I’ve never tried it.

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:38 am

they have petite! it’s a game changer. i’m not tall either, so regular dresses usually drag on the floor

  7. Lauren on September 8, 2017 at 8:28 am

When we were trying to get pregnant I cut caffeine out and now I am almost 15 weeks pregnant and obviously still not drinking caffeine but I have been dreaming about the days I can have it again. I do miss the instant energy I get from it, though, that said, you mentioned having a decrease in anxiety and I can say that has been my experience too. That makes me thinking about going back on caffeine alot harder. It is also so nice not feeling dependent on something to get the day started.

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:38 am

yes, for sure! it’s nice to be able to just wake up without crawling to the coffee maker. i also feel like i have more *real* energy without it

  8. Amber on September 8, 2017 at 8:53 am

    I like #1!

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:32 am

i think that’s my fave so far <3

      • Erica on September 8, 2017 at 11:20 pm

I wore #1 to the Heart Ball a couple years ago and loved it. I had to wear super high heels but I think you are a little taller than me. 😉

  9. Jen on September 8, 2017 at 9:06 am

All are beautiful, so, I think any of these would be nice. I’d vote #3 with a stunning necklace. Hard to beat basic black, plus, with your dark hair and dark eyes….BAM! 🙂 lol

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:31 am

      <3 !!

  10. Stella on September 8, 2017 at 9:10 am

I love RTR and in fact just signed up for two dresses for weddings the next two weekends! I read through the customer photos a lot before deciding a dress and really pay attention to the ones that have figures like me. I love that it gives me a boost to go outside my comfort zone because I’m not signing up to own it.

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 9:31 am

      yes, i totally agree!

  11. Bethany @ Dose of Discovery on September 8, 2017 at 9:18 am

I love that last red dress! I just rented this dress for a formal wedding this evening and loooove it! It’s form fitting in all the best ways but still fairly comfortable (I hope) 🙂

      ahhhh it’s gorgeous!!!

  12. Laura @ She Eats Well on September 8, 2017 at 9:44 am

I notice the link between caffeine and my anxiety too. I usually only drink 1 cup in the am. Lately I’ve been putting 1/4 tap ashwagada in my coffee and I’ve noticed being way less jittery and all that. Just in case you ever want to have it back… 🙂

  13. Lisa on September 8, 2017 at 9:46 am

There is actually a small amount of caffeine in decaf coffee (and chocolate of course!).

    • Fitnessista on September 8, 2017 at 10:02 am

yep! there’s no way i’d want to give up chocolate though 😉

  14. Brittany Taylor @ The Gourmet Financier on September 8, 2017 at 10:00 am

I had my first pumpkin spiced latte yesterday! I’ve never been on the pumpkin spice train until now. #lifechanging
I love #2 & #3 for the dresses! I’m not a big red fan personally but I’m sure any you pick will be beautiful.
I pray the storm does not affect you at all! I live in South Louisiana so we have plenty of experience with hurricanes. No fun:(

  15. Amber Schumann on September 8, 2017 at 10:07 am

Oh my goodness… #4 is amazing and SO JULIA ROBERTS!

  16. RR on September 8, 2017 at 11:50 am

Please let us know how your Rent the runway experience goes. I’m thinking to try for my brother-in-law’s wedding in January but the sizing issue has always turned me away.

  17. Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups on September 8, 2017 at 11:57 am

Yeah to all the fall things! All four of those dresses are beautiful, but I would say the 1st or 4th one, you look good in red.

  18. Reenie on September 8, 2017 at 11:57 am

Dresses – #4 then #3. You would look stunning in any of them.

    xo

  19. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on September 8, 2017 at 12:04 pm

    Stay safe this weekend lady!

  20. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on September 8, 2017 at 12:09 pm

Hi Gina! I’m totally fine with no caffeine, and haven’t had much of it for many years outside of one green tea — but I LOVE the ritual of a hot bevvie in the morning, so if you can do that with decaf — keep it up! 🙂 As far as the dresses, I like them all. I see a lot of great ones at Nordstrom, but I’ve also had a lot of success using Rent the Runway, and it’s way better not to have to own the thing — so I’d go that route! Happy Friday! Praying for my friends and family on the coast in Florida for sure!

  21. Meredith on September 8, 2017 at 12:29 pm

I just had my first Starbucks pumpkin spice latte this morning! (Although I’ve been drinking Dunkin pumpkin for a few weeks) I’ve noticed my morning coffee gives me a lot of anxiety lately, especially if I have it on an empty stomach. I just rented my first dress from Rent the Runway for an event in a few weeks. I really hope it works out, otherwise I have no idea what I’m going to wear!

  22. Jacki on September 8, 2017 at 12:37 pm

I’m assuming that if you wear #4, Richard Gere will give you a huge diamond necklace and whisk you off in his private plane to the opera in San Francisco?? If so, go with that one! I also really like #2.

  23. Samantha Vander Wielen on September 8, 2017 at 1:05 pm

Haha! I also base the season off of when PSLs are available! Did you see that Halo Top has a pumpkin spice flavor out?! I’m going to look for it this weekend! xo

  24. Stephanie on September 8, 2017 at 2:31 pm

My best girlfriend does Rent the Runway all the time and loves it! Good luck!

  25. Tracy on September 8, 2017 at 3:21 pm

They’re all pretty but I think #3. Love the neckline and how fitted it is. Very elegant.

This weekend we’re headed to the University of Kansas for family weekend! Can’t wait to tailgate and hang with my favorite peeps <3

  26. Donna on September 8, 2017 at 3:35 pm

#1 is TOTALLY YOU IN RED GINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely GORGEOUS!

  27. Meagan on September 8, 2017 at 4:40 pm

I love dress #1 for you but #2 is super pretty too!

  28. Crystal on September 8, 2017 at 9:49 pm

I think you’d look beautiful in #4 with your long dark hair 🙂

Fall is almost here and I am not mad at all…bring on the PSLs, sweaters, and football parties!

  30. Amanda on September 9, 2017 at 11:26 am

Thanks for sharing your weekly favorites – it’s great to think about something other than the storm. Hurricane Irma has been quite the roller coaster of emotions down here in south Florida. This is my first hurricane, and the anxiety is for real. Current prediction is landfall in Naples, so selfishly I am relieved. I’m sure you are, too. Stay safe in V-town this weekend. <3

  31. Nina on September 10, 2017 at 5:15 pm

I just bought my little one crocodile rain boots with protruding eyes like your ladybug ones and scary teeth and all. Of course he’s obsessed with them just as you mentioned 🙂
Any other side effects of life without caffeine besides lowered anxiety? I’ve never been a coffee drinker but I do love my teas and I’m trying to cut back lately since I’m pregnant. Luckily i found some great deteinated choices because I really missed the taste.

    • Fitnessista on September 13, 2017 at 8:43 am

haha! his crocodile boots sound awesome 🙂
i feel like i have more energy without it. it’s so nice to not have to need it in the morning
