Friday Faves

Happy Friday! I think it’s Friday? I feel like I’ve been living under boxes for the past two weeks. The good news is that the end is in sight, and it feels sooooo good. Thanks for hanging in there with me while I took some time to get settled and enjoy the fam before they headed back to Tucson. Things should be back to normal around here; I missed you all, but feel refreshed after a little break.

Acai bowls. I’m totally obsessed with the Beachcomber bowl from Tiki Port. Here’s a similar recipe to make one at home, too.

You need to check out Cozy Orange now that you’re in SoCal. It’s eco-friendly CUTE work-out clothing (cute like Lulu, not cute like Target 😉

I’m soooo happy it’s Friday! I’m looking forward to some warm weather this weekend and visiting the botanical gardens!

I’ve lived in my current location for 6 years. I honestly don’t know where the time went! The beach looks heavenly! 🙂

  6. Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit on April 11, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Woohoo, TGIF!!! This weekend I won’t be going to Cleveland to see my boyfriend, so instead, it’s completely a ‘Lauren’ weekend – cleaning, organizing, blog recipe creating, girl time, and more!!

  7. Brynn on April 11, 2014 at 12:09 pm

My sister and niece have been with me for the week. I have loved having them around! My niece is one month younger than Livi, so I’ve been searching through your posts for food and project ideas!!

  8. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on April 11, 2014 at 12:16 pm

We’re approaching one year at our apartment in Omaha! I love it!

Happy Friday! The beach looks beautiful.

  9. Tia on April 11, 2014 at 12:25 pm

I’ve been in the Chicagoland area since fall of 2006. I moved here for college. After graduating, I got a job downtown, so I’ve been here ever since. I keep meaning to leave though. The weather is really truly miserable.

  10. Kelly R on April 11, 2014 at 12:25 pm

That acai bowl looks so good! Wish the smoothie/juice scene was better in Boston…

  11. Tracy on April 11, 2014 at 12:34 pm

Enjoy your time with your family, Gina!! And enjoy your break…take all the time you need. We’ll be here when you’re ready to blog as you normally do 🙂

I loved the article about misused words! Awesome. Hits on a big pet peeve of mine!

Good luck (again) getting settled. Please share some pics of the new place when you’re finished!

  12. Elvira on April 11, 2014 at 12:55 pm

Welcome to San Diego! Looking forward to your recommendations now that we live in the same city.

If you see somebody acting awkwardly around you, trying to decide if she says something or not, that will probably be me 🙂

    Elvira.

  13. Elizabeth {Positively Healthy} on April 11, 2014 at 12:56 pm

That bowl looks awesome! So refreshing :). This week I was glad we got a break in the weather and it is starting to feel like spring! I have lived in my current spot for about 1.5 years.

  14. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on April 11, 2014 at 1:09 pm

We are less than 2 months from moving and I am starting to panic a little bit -but heck if you can do it this many times it should be a piece of cake right!?

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2014 at 12:47 am

it’s kind of nice! you get to reorganize everything and start from scratch 🙂

  15. Susan on April 11, 2014 at 1:09 pm

After 11 long months in our apartment (the only perk: outdoor pool!) we are finally moving into a house this Sunday! I’m so excited to watch my son play in the yard and grow a little garden. I hope I’ll get used to suburbia (we’re in San Diego North county 🙂 ). Oh and after a year in California I still haven’t tried an Acai bowl, but they look so fresh and delicious!

  16. Becky@TheSavedRunner on April 11, 2014 at 1:17 pm

Thanks for all of the links to some good reads! I look forward to reading a bunch!

  17. Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork on April 11, 2014 at 1:24 pm

Glad you’ve made it! I’ve loved the beach pics!
The word one made me crack up because I can’t stand when people use “literally” because they’re often using it incorrectly. Interestingly, though, it is now used incorrectly so much that it’s been added to the dictionary definition! http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/15/living/literally-definition/

  18. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on April 11, 2014 at 1:40 pm

Fellow Californian, I’ve lived in San Francisco for over a year-and-a-half. I moved here from Orlando, Florida. I was born and raised in Florida and all my friends and family remain there, but my husband and I moved for his job and we haven’t looked back yet. We love city living.

This weekend I’m attending an intensive workshop and taking my personal training certification exam. I’m already a group fitness instructor and looking forward to learning even more about the fitness world.

There’s an Orange Theory here in SF that I’ve wanted to try. Looking forward to your review.

    Have a great weekend!

Favs from this week – a Stitchfix with a couple items I like, my little man playing hide and seek behind the shower curtain and cracking himself up (and me), 75 degree weather and some good sleep. I’ve been in Denver for 8 years (I was born and raised in CO) and we love it! If you’ve ever in the hood let me know and I’ll give you our favorite spots. 🙂 Congrats on getting through the big move!!!

  20. Jess on April 11, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Congrats on the move, I bet you’ll be loving the beach!

  21. Robin on April 11, 2014 at 2:21 pm

Looks like you’ve been spending time in my neck of the woods, some more recs for you (all on Voltaire):

    1. Tiki Hut has delicious bowls and smoothies, but for straight up coffee, try Cafe Bella a block and half down – towards the ocean

    2. Just across the street from TH is Happy U Namaste Yoga – you must. Tons of great local yoga options in OB/SD, but Happy U is everything a yoga studio should be

    3. If you’re interested in getting the little one involved in yoga, try If I Was a Bird yoga studio – it’s just for children. My two go to class once a week and look forward to it every time

    3. Up Voltaire (away from the ocean) about a mile, on the corner of Voltaire and Catalina, try To the Point for breakfast or lunch, think you’ll love

I’ve no affiliation with these places (other than thinking they are super)…let me know what you think!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2014 at 12:46 am

thank you so much for the suggestions!! i passed cafe bella and was wondering if it was good. it’s a cute spot!
we bought a groupon for if i was a bird studio a while ago for liv to use– i think she’ll love it!
very excited to check out your other recommendations, too 🙂
      xoxo

  24. Kelli on April 11, 2014 at 4:25 pm

Love these faves! I’ve lived in Utah for 7 years now – so crazy. I grew up in the SF Bay Area and came here for school.

  25. Runner Girl Eats on April 11, 2014 at 4:41 pm

This week def dragged on for me so I am THRILLED it’s Friday! We don’t have an Orange Theory where I live but I would love to take a class one day, I’ve heard soo many great things.

  26. Cara's Healthy Cravings on April 11, 2014 at 5:22 pm

I am looking forward to family time this weekend…a couple birthday parties and an early Easter celebration. Lots of good food and love to be had 🙂

  27. Alex @ Kenzie Life on April 11, 2014 at 6:43 pm

In the past 2 years, I’ve lived in over 7 different places (apartments/condos) in two different states. I finally am living in a place I love and will be in for another year, but depending on where (and if) I get accepted for my doctorate I could be any number of places! I do really, really love my current apartment and will be very sad to leave it, because it feels like home. I’m just looking forward to a night in, relaxing on the couch and watching TV. Been a tough and busy week so I really need a night to myself. Also craving a smoothie bowl 🙂

  28. Catherine on April 11, 2014 at 6:53 pm

looking forward to (and terrified at same time) of running in my first half marathon! Sunday I will hopefully be rocking the Rock-n-Roll Raleigh!

  29. Domi @ Eat, Pray, Lift on April 11, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Oh man, it must feel so good to be finally able to start settling in! Thought of yall and the big move when I was in SD all last week. Fell in love with the area all over again. Hope you’re able to take Liv on a surrey ride on Coronado soon…she would go bananas, I’m sure! Also, my friend introduced us to her yoga studio – Rooted Kava Bar in the North Park area (there’s a yoga studio inside the building haha). Super offbeat and way more “hippy” than I normally go for, but the class was great and I loooved Nicole, who taught our class. Let me know if you give it a shot, and have fun getting all unpacked and setting up the new home!

  30. Megan @ TheSkinny-Life on April 12, 2014 at 9:08 am

I’m looking forward to getting outdoors for some long walks in this nice weather. Have fun moving in!

  31. kayla on April 12, 2014 at 5:04 pm

I just read about Orange Theory– apparently one is coming to NYC. Look forward to hearing about your experience, sounds like a unique franchise meets boutique fitness combo.

  32. Karissa on April 12, 2014 at 6:21 pm

Welcome back Gina! I’m glad the move is calming down a bit!! 🙂 Hope this weekend = all unpacked and settling in. So, how many times have you been to the beach thus far?? 😉

This weekend I got my hair cut and dyed, changed it up a bit! (I get bored too easily.) Otherwise I’ve been a bit of a slug. I DID discover a cookbook for cookie dough lovers – ummm THAT called for some experimentation!

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2014 at 11:54 am

      hi! we’ve been 3 times already 🙂
happy new hair to you! that cookbook sounds amazing!

  33. Shannon on April 12, 2014 at 10:35 pm

I LOVE Orange Theory! I have one less than a mile from home and it’s my absolute favorite!! I’m in South Florida and this is actually where the franchise began originally at a studio called Ellen’s. I can’t wait to read your focus on post!

  34. Pua on April 13, 2014 at 3:11 am

I’ve lived here all my life, save the four years I left for college. Sometimes I get a little stir-crazy. We love our hometown, but after being here for 30+ years, you know every spot, every restaurant, every hidden gem… sometimes I wish that we could discover new places!
