Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Fri-YAY. What’s going on this weekend? I’d love to hear what you have going on.

We have nothing planned and I’m pretty excited about it. I’m looking forward to breakfast at Birdie’s (always), getting some chores accomplished around the house and catching a yoga class. Above all, I’m just hoping P decides to sleep a little bit. Is there a two year sleep regression? If not, there is for this child. Fingers crossed it passes soon. I think it’s hilarious that I’m like, “I’m going to start waking up early!” and P is like, “Hold my juice box.”

In standard Friday style, here are some faves from the week and around the web! It’s so much fun to put this list together each week, and sharing some of the things I’ve been enjoying. Please shout out your faves in the comments section if you’d like to play along!

Livi Ballerina

Life:

Livi on the swing

Picnic time with P

A picnic with my best girls. I picked Liv up from school and had a little lunchbag full of snacks and drinks, so we headed to the park for an hour or so to eat and play. The weather was so dreamy -it was in the low 70s- and the perfect afternoon to get a little fresh air.

Veggies for roasting

(Huge trays of roasted veggies in the fridge.)

Astros win! I’m not the biggest baseball fan -college basketball is my thing- but I was cheering so hard for the Astros during the World Series games. My cousin is one of their pitching coaches, so it was beyond amazing to see him on TV in the bullpen. I didn’t get to see the final moments because it was so late on the east coast, but was so excited to see that they won.

Fitness:

Reunited with the POSH Podcast. The POSH Podcast used to be one of my resources for class playlists, and also when I needed some upbeat, driving music to power my personal workouts. After taking a bit of a hiatus from the gym for that whole surgery thing, I had forgotten about it. I was following a PBB Advanced workout in the garage when I remembered the POSH Podcast and was PUMPED to hit play. (We’ve been using this Bluetooth Speaker, which we originally picked up for the party, and it.is.awesome.) It gave me a surge of energy and I’ve listened to it a few times since then. It almost makes you feel like you’re in a club, which is a nice surprise after dealing with naptime battles haha.

Posh Podcast

This legs and booty workout looks killer.

5 tips for barre newbies.

Good reads:

The Hypnotist’s Love Story. Liane Moriarty is one of my all-time favorite authors, so I was surprised to see that I hadn’t read this one yet. Her writing is such a joy -it’s compelling, witty and always includes a bit of mystery- and I’ve coasted right through this page-turner. Hopefully I’ll finish it tonight!

Hypnotist's Love Story

Four inspiring women shaking up the culinary world.

An easy tip on remaining present.

Fashion + beauty:

Beautycounter holiday sets are heeeeeere. There’s such a gorgeous selection; I’m having a hard time choosing. I’ll likely be ordering this one and this one to start. I’ll definitely be ordering some as holiday gifts, too.

Winter jewels BeautyCounter palette

The most perfect brown booties.

Having way too much fun scouring dresses for holiday parties.

Food and recipes:

Siete chips. I think I may have written about these before, but they needed another shout out. The lime flavor “gives me life” as the kids say.

Siete grain-free tortilla chips

Whole Foods has them, but I’ll usually order from Thrive Market.

I need this trifle in my life.

One of our standard fall make-ahead breakfasts has a new video! The full recipe is here. You just heat it up and add a little almond milk in the morning. It tastes like dessert and is gluten-free + vegan.

What’s something you’re loving this week?

Happy Friday!

xo

Tell me about that green cauliflower. It caught my attention the other day at the store, but the odd shape of it made me think “sea creature” so I stayed away. Would love your thoughts on it.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:53 pm

haha i told the girls it was a “troll tree” and they ate a ton of it. it’s one of my favorites, but it’s so hard to find! it’s a little nuttier than regular cauliflower. i think it has a better flavor! it’s so good in kalamata olive dip 🙂

Oo ive heard of those chips and haven’t been able to find them. Maybe at Whole foods, but I rarely go there! I was super excited for the Astros too even though I’m a Cali girl– well deserved!

Liv and P are so darn cute, I can’t handle it. They remind me so much of my nieces! I’ll definitely have to check out that podcast, because I’ve been in a bit of a playlist rut lately – I find myself skipping every song hoping something new will magically appear lol! This week I’m loving the cooler fall weather too out here in PA. It gives me such good holiday/fall vibes!

  7. Lauren on November 3, 2017 at 9:59 am

Yes there is a 2 yr regression!!! My BFF just dealt with it and she said she capped his daytime sleep at 2 hours and stretched more awake time before bed.she also would not get him out of bed before 6am (easier to do tho cause he was still in a crib)!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:50 pm

that’s a great idea. i think i need to start waking her up from naps way earlier. this whole thing has been a nightmare haha

  8. Jessica @ Fit Talker on November 3, 2017 at 10:04 am

I love SIETE chips!! The first time I bought them I was eyeing them but was hesitant because of the price. A woman walked by and assured me they were great, so I bought them. I love them and wish they came in a larger bag!!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:50 pm

i wish they came in a larger bag, but also am glad they don’t haha because i eat them all by myself 😉

I have one of the beautycounter palettes but I can’t get the eye shadows to show up. Any tips? I use the beautycounter shadow brushes but I wonder if a different tool would wrk better.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:50 pm

  12. Kristen on November 3, 2017 at 12:43 pm

Girl, I feel you on the early riser. Only, my child never went through a “stage”. It’s just how he is. He’s always been up early. I kept telling myself that maybe one day I’d appreciate this about him (trying to make myself feel better Haha). Well, that day finally came!! He’s in kindergarten now and I hear others complain about how difficult it is getting their child up in the morning. I do now appreciate that he’s a morning person!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:49 pm

knock on wood p hasn’t been getting up too early, but she refuses to go to bed at night. i feel like when one child is sleeping well, the other isn’t, and they just switch. i’m definitely reading for this stage to be over. p hasn’t been falling asleep until 9:30 or 10. AHH

  13. Laura @FitMamaLove on November 3, 2017 at 1:40 pm

I just made that pumpkin baked oatmeal this morning—so good! I may have had it for snack too.

As far as new and interesting chips go, I just bought sauerkraut chips yesterday. I’m confused about how that works, but the whole fam loves sauerkraut so I’m eager to give them a try!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:48 pm

what did you think of them?! i didn’t even know that was a thing

  14. Janice O'Kane on November 3, 2017 at 3:02 pm

This week I loved seeing the movie I’ll Push You, a documentary about two lifelong friends who hike the 500 mile Camino de Santiago trail together. One, Justin, is confined to a wheelchair without the use of his arms or legs. The other, Patrick, pushes Justin over mountains, through mud, across deserts, feeds, bathes, clothes him – all with grace and humor. It left me deeply touched and determined to show up with more loving kindness in my own life. Highly recommend!!

    Tomorrow – a fantastic long massage – I’m overdue!.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:47 pm

that sounds incredible. i’ll look for that one!
hope you enjoyed the massage, too 🙂

  15. Sarah Gottfried on November 3, 2017 at 3:25 pm

I think there’s no question, I will be buying some of the holiday gift sets from Beauty Counter for myself…just putting it off until black friday to see if they have any deals 🙂

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:47 pm

yes! i’m sure they’ll do some kind of freebie or offer

  16. Karissa on November 3, 2017 at 4:48 pm

YES to the sleep regression! I literally just googled that last night “2 year old sleep regression” along with “the terrible twos”…ahhhh so funny/comforting/relieved to know I’m not the only one experiencing this with my soon to be 2 year old!

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:46 pm

you are definitely not alone haha

  17. Sharon on November 3, 2017 at 5:26 pm

Hello from Houston! I was thrilled to see the Astros in your Friday faves. This has been so amazing for our city. As one of my studentsput it best when she said…this has given me something to smile about while my house is still being repaired from Harvey. #ThankyouAstros #Earned it.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:46 pm

amen to that! i’m so sorry to hear about your house, but grateful that this has been a little bit of joy for you. it was a huge win and so well-deserved

  18. Shell on November 3, 2017 at 6:50 pm

Hey Gina, P and Liv are gorgeous as ever! I have one question- how do you find time to read? I would love some tips

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:45 pm

i just keep a book around if i have a chance to read a few pages here and there. usually i can sneak in some reading if the girls are watching a movie and i’m sitting with them on the couch, or if they’re playing and i can see them. sometimes we’ll go in the playroom and they’ll play while i sit on the floor with them and read a book. this way i can play with them and also get in a little bit of reading 🙂 i almost always read for 10 minutes before bed, too. it’s hard to find the time, so that’s why i do it in little bursts when i can

  19. Bethany on November 4, 2017 at 12:17 am

I’ve got to try the Siete chips. I feel so behind.

    • Fitnessista on November 5, 2017 at 8:43 pm

      they’re so good!
