Friday faves

Hi! Happy Friday to ya 🙂 Anything fun planned for the weekend?

Some faves from the week:

Bits and pieces of the house finally coming together. Quite a few people have asked for house pics; I’ll definitely post some when we’re done unpacking. For now, we’re still working on the boxes that seem to randomly appear…

Kitchen is coming along:

Kitchen 1 of 1 2

Kitchen 1 of 1

I am absolutely in love with this California home. It makes me sad that it’s not really ours, but we’ll take good care of it as we borrow it for a few years 😉

The outdoor space and garden are so luscious -and we have a gardener so no worries about my black thumb killing everything- and the energy here is so bright and comfy. My mom and I both agreed that it feels like my nana Flores’ house.

Yard 1 of 1 2

Yard 1 of 1 3

Yard 1 of 1 4

(that’s the backyard + garage, which we’ve turned into a man cave/exercise room. In the process of thinking of a name for it haha)

Almond milk with cinnamon and espresso ice cubes.

Almond milk drink 1 of 1

I had a double espresso that was too scorching hot to drink, so I left it on the counter to cool and forgot about it. Instead of reheating it, I poured it into ice cube trays.

The Girl Meets World trailer. Is anyone else scary excited about this?

Pharrell crying tears of joy as the world danced to “Happy.”

Livi’s first yoga class.

Livs yoga studio

I got a Groupon to If I Was a Bird kid and baby yoga studio when we first found out we’d be living here. Livi took her first class this past week and had a blast! They do a craft with the kiddos, a “practice” which includes lots of imaginative play + props, a glorious savasana, and a snack. She had oils rubbed into her hair and her little feet rubbed with lotion. It was the sweetest thing, and I was happy to see that “yoga noodle blissed out” look on her face.

Simple 2-ingredient recipes. I thought these would be basic/boring but not at all; tons of new ideas! Mind —> blown.

Just in case you didn’t think Easter bunnies were super creeptastic.

Matthew Kenney’s videos about the raw food diet.

These cute little ladies flying for the first time.

Sending you lots of love this Friday <3

xoxo

I took a power yoga class last weekend and there was a 5 year old girl in my class with her mom!

She did great! She just followed along when she could and did child’s pose for the more challenging poses.

Love the idea of espresso ice cubes and who knew two ingredient recipes could look so good! My folks are coming up to visit me in college and take me for dinner on Easter Sunday so I’m excited for that and the sun is actually shining today (even though I’m in the library cramming for finals!)! Hope you guys have a great weekend x

  13. Megan @ The Skinny-Life on April 18, 2014 at 1:04 pm

Kitchen looks beautiful so far! Curious how much smaller the houses are in CA vs AZ? I cannot believe they do kids yoga. That is too cool!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:34 am

the house we found is only a couple hundred square feet smaller than our tucson house, but in general the homes are smaller and you get much less for your $

  14. Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork on April 18, 2014 at 1:10 pm

Your house looks so cute! Nice and airy! Is the gardener someone you hired on your own or provided via the Pilot’s work benefits (if you can call it that)? I know nothing about military life!

The kiddie yoga sounds adorable! Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:33 am

no, the homeowners are continuing to pay for him. (thank goodness haha)

  15. Jess on April 18, 2014 at 1:11 pm

How adorable they do yoga for Livi’s age! I bet she loved it, would be so good for her. Wish they did that here! Love your new place, bet your Grandma is by your side.

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:33 am

right?! what horror movies are made of

  18. Karissa on April 18, 2014 at 1:29 pm

Wow…. I will never look at Easter Bunnies the same ever again.

The pictures of your kitchen and backyard look LOVELY!! I’m in awe of your ability to start making a place beautiful and yours so quickly! My hubby and I moved into our rental house (also both military) back in late September and we’re STILL working on it.
Also, I love all the mason jars you have! If you don’t mind my asking, where did you get them?!’

Have a Good Friday and blessed Easter weekend!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:33 am

thank you! it feels like it never ends, though haha.
most of them are from target! the mason jar mugs and the GIANT one are from pier 1 (they were a gift from my dad and stepmom)
hope you had a lovely easter, too!
      xo

Awe Targay … I <3 that store! 🙂 Thanks Gina!

  19. michele on April 18, 2014 at 1:41 pm

Hi Gina- your kitchen looks WAY better than “coming along,” or you’re super-sneaky with a camera 🙂

Any tips on decorating/making a rental feel like home? the bf and I are moving to Raleigh this summer so I can start a PhD program, and it’s our first place together- I REALLY want to make it “ours” but it’ll be challenging as 1-a renter and 2-being on the broke side (PhDs don’t make much money, and I don’t feel right making him foot the bill because I want to decorate…)

    thanks!

    michele

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:32 am

      thank you so much!
i know what you mean. it’s hard to make a rental feel like home, especially when you can’t change much.
-pictures! hang as much as you’d like and you can fill the holes when you move out
-hobby lobby. do you have one close by? they have AMAZING prices on decor items
-pillows, bedding and rugs are easy ways to switch up the feel of a room, too
      xoxo

  23. Alex @ Kenzie Life on April 18, 2014 at 2:32 pm

Toddler yoga?! That’s the cutest thing ever. That almond milk with cinnamon and espresso ice cubes looks *amazing*. It’s 70 degrees here in Colorado today and something cold and creamy (and caffeinated) sounds wonderful. Hope you have a great weekend!

  24. Angie on April 18, 2014 at 2:40 pm

Your home is looking good! Which area of San Diego did you decide on?

  25. char eats greens on April 18, 2014 at 3:10 pm

Great idea about the espresso!! I wish I had my life a little more put together like you haha. I think being in sunshine helps. In Ontario (Canada) it feels like it’s never coming, at this rate :(. Doing yoga with a little one sounds like fun! Totally need to look for something like that around me!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:29 am

haha don’t let my blog fool you 😉 not all of my life is put together, but the sunshine does help. hope you get some soon!

Yay for the new house! It’s okay that it’s not really yours. It’s yours for now. Nothing in life is permanent, anyway. Even the things we call permanent. So enjoy YOUR home! 🙂

By the way, that 2-ingredient list…whiskey + balsamic vinegar as a marinade?! Whoa. I’m vegan so I wouldn’t use it to marinade steak…but I’m thinking tempeh!

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2014 at 1:27 am

thank you! love that thought 🙂
let me know how you like that combo with tempeh!
