Friday Faves

Hi friends! HAPPY FRIDAY! What are you up to this weekend? We have some fun events ahead of us: a date night, friends’ housewarming party, and a potential 5k. I say “potential” because the time springs forward this weekend, and getting out of the house early has never been my strongest suit, so we shall see. 😉 It’s supposed to be absolutely gorgeous, so I’m stoked to hit up the farmers market and enjoy some time outside with our little fam.

Aquarium patio

In typical Friday style, here are some faves from the week and around the web! I always love hearing about your faves, too, so please shout them out in the comments if you’d like. <3

These beautiful cookies at Girard Gourmet in La Jolla. Liv had a puppy and the Pilot had a Nemo. I had bites of both. 🙂

Coookies

We asked Caroline to join in our girl tower, and she walked away shaking her head. Too cool, that one.

Three generations

Paleo lemon cake chopped, topped with almond milk and berries. Try it. I promise.

Bread in a jar

Bella’s intense weightlifting routine. She asked me to call her KettleBella from now on.

Kettlebella

Lemons in the yard! I’ve been on a huge kale Caesar kick this week, and we were out of lemons, so I figured I’d have to wait to make another batch. Then, I walked outside. Derp. We have PLENTY of lemons… and I made a giant, glorious batch of kale salad.

Lemon tree

Speaking of salads, we’ve also been enjoying lots of healthy egg salad this week. We’re ahead of the post-Easter curve, so it still has it’s novelty for now. In a couple of days, Liv and I ate two batches; 4 eggs each. Needless to say, it’s pretty tasty. I tweaked my old recipe a bit and will definitely post an updated version. Egg salad

Cookie “cheers” with my best girl. (We had to test one before sending the rest off to Janelle, last week’s giveaway winner!)

Cookie cheers

I fully support this study.

A new study which indicates that processed foods are potentially more potent, and therefore can be more addictive.

Julie’s special announcement post! It just makes my heart so warm and happy. <3

THE BEST lip tint. I got a set of these over the holidays and always have at least one in my purse.

Somewhat horrible things this guy does to his kids and doesn’t feel guilty about. The green chicken cracked me up.

All the sobs.

Ways to make running feel less terrible.

Cauliflower alfredo sauce?? Need to try this.

Tips for working out in the morning (without it being miserable).

Shopbop is having an AWESOME sale (use the code “BIGEVENT15” to save up to 25%), though I’m super bummed I missed ordering this dress before they sold out in my size. I LOVE it.

Any faves from the week or around the web? Latest salad combo fave? What’s on the fitness plan this weekend?

Hope you have a great morning!!

xoxo

Gina

I’m waddling around today because I did your Squat Burner video yesterday! Oh my gah, Gina. Burns so good.

Love the Paleo Lemon Cake, I must try that this weekend! Enjoy the warm weather for us East Coasters suffering in this snow :).

  9. Liz on March 6, 2015 at 7:29 am

Those lemon trees! The beautiful beach picture! You are on point to have a great weekend. Enjoy that beautiful weather for me! I’m in MA so, you know how that goes, we *might* hit 40!! Enjoy your weekend, happy Friday!

  10. Stacy @ Sweating Tulipz on March 6, 2015 at 7:39 am

Ahh…I’m so jealous of your lemon trees. I bought a Meyer Lemon Tree Seed Pack for myself and my mom 6 years ago to grow our own Lemon trees. (Mine didn’t make it), but hers is still growing. It looks nothing like yours, trust me, but last year it did bear 3 lemons! 🙂

Sounds like a fun weekend! Enjoy!

  11. Kathy on March 6, 2015 at 7:42 am

I tried that paleo lemon cake the other night with my family. I wish I would have doubled it. My family loved it. It was gone really fast. Thanks for the recipe.

LOL @ KettleBella ? ..and so excited you mentioned that processed foods study! I just did an article on it over at the blog.. makes a lot of sense! (also love the red wine study you mentioned 😉 cheers! lol)

  17. Karina @ fitsickle on March 6, 2015 at 9:35 am

Egg salad! I was trying to think of a good snack for next week.. Perfect! I have a couple Pure Barre classes on the agenda and hopefully some Mexican food:) Have a lovely weekend!

  18. Sara on March 6, 2015 at 9:44 am

Lemon tree – so, so envious! We live in Oregon and cannot grow citrus trees. Though I do have a indoor meyer lemon plant that tries desperately to produce fruit twice a year, we just can’t get beyond the blossoms.

  19. Jessie R on March 6, 2015 at 9:53 am

KettleBella, too cute! Those cookies and lemons! Looks like it was a great week! I finally looked around on JustFab, and ordered a few things for Spring :).

  20. Janelle on March 6, 2015 at 10:12 am

3 days, 3 gigantic cookies down. Cant stop! Sometimes for breakfast, sometimes for dessert. They’re delicious! Thanks again 🙂

  21. Julia on March 6, 2015 at 10:15 am

That female president’s piece was rough to read. I have been blessed to have a choice when it comes to working or not, and I’m in a pretty parent friendly field anyway (education). I think many of us do this to other women before we have kids, but honestly, it’s because we’re ignorant and self-righteous sometimes… not in denial about our own futures. Until you are a parent it is very hard to understand other parents.

And as for salads and weekend plans… I made a blackberry balsamic vinaigrette that is just insane. This weekend is zoo time with kids, and church.

Adorable! AND so amazing and beautiful that you have lemons in the yard!! 🙂

  23. Domi @ Eat, Pray, Lift on March 6, 2015 at 11:30 am

Um ok, is that first photo a view from your house? Because I’m usually a mountains-over-beach kind of broad, but even so. That view. That beach. Ughhh. Color me jealous!

  24. Heather Ann on March 6, 2015 at 11:38 am

Your “all the sobs” article link made me a blubbering mess in the middle of Starbucks. I worked with LGBT college students for several years and was the first person many came out to at college and this article makes me wish sooo much that ALL parents could feel like that. It was heartbreaking to have students who were disowned by their families for being transgender. Thanks for sharing this article!

I’m really loving Trader Joe’s Spiced Chai tea with a bit of soy milk and a few drops of stevia. It’s so good–especially with a few pieces of Brownie Brittle, which is seriously addictive. Oh and my new Pure Barre hoodie, which is (and I don’t say this lightly) the most comfortable hoodie I’ve ever owned (and probably most expensive 🙁 ).

  26. mary on March 6, 2015 at 11:55 am

The colors aren’t as great as Tarte’s but check out Wet & Wild Lip Balm Stains. I read great reviews on MakeupAlley.com this week so bought one, then went back and bought 5 more in all different colors, because they were $2 each! They stain more than most, which is nice. The color lasts longer on your lips.

  27. Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out on March 6, 2015 at 12:08 pm

I still need to try that lemon paleo bread! My fitness plan for this weekend is hiking and playing– it’s time for spring break!

  28. Sam @ grapefruit & granola on March 6, 2015 at 1:00 pm

I thought the title mentioning lemons meant you had lots of bad things going on right now. Glad to see they’re just on the trees!

  29. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on March 6, 2015 at 1:18 pm

Mmm, I’m a HUGE egg salad fan. Now you have me craving it! I’ll have to check out your recipe. I see it includes dill which already makes it a winner in my book. 😉

  30. leeann on March 6, 2015 at 1:25 pm

So excited to be taking my snow bike up to some groomed trails in Wyoming to ride with my husband 😀

I’m excited to read the ways to make running feel less terrible! I’ll be easing back in soon after spraining my ankle and it’s gonne feel scary haha. Those sugar cookies are too cute!

So jealous of the weather and lemons! Julie’s announcement has been one of my favs too! So exciting! 🙂 x

  35. Alex on March 7, 2015 at 9:57 am

Oh my gosh I’m so jealous of all those lemons!! Let’s just say I have a slight addiction to fresh lemon water. I even tried to figure out a way to grow a lemon or lime tree here. Alas no luck. So I’ll just be jealous of your lemon tree 🙂

  36. Alex on March 7, 2015 at 2:54 pm

cauliflower alfredo is so yummy! if you have leftovers, the sauce gets a little thick and dry, but you can just reheat with the addition of a little broth it thin it out.

  37. Courtney Violet Bentley on March 8, 2015 at 4:56 am

Yumm the cauliflower alfredo sauce sounds delish! I am building up for my next comp so lots of lifting and tiring sessions! All my love xo C

  38. Jennifer on March 8, 2015 at 11:55 am

I made the lemon cake and LOVED it! I just commented to my mother the other day how I was looking for a healthier option of the beloved one I was obsessed with as a child (tons of white sugar and white flour). So thank you.

    • Fitnessista on March 8, 2015 at 10:19 pm

so awesome! happy you liked it!
