Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? We’re meeting up with friends for dinner, I’m teaching a dance cardio class (it’s FREE, so if you’re local and want to join in the fun, let me know and I’ll email ya), and also getting stuff together for our PBB launch in a few weeks. I am so excited for it!! The site will be live then, too, and packed with prenatal and postpartum fitness and nutrition info. There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes over here, and I can’t wait to share it with you. If you want first dibs and info, be sure to sign up for the newsletter here.

We’re wrapping up the final week of Winter Shape Up! Is it just me, or did it go by way too quickly? You still have time to check in and enter the Sabra giveaway here!

Stay tuned for our upcoming Summer Shape Up + the usual fitness tips, workouts, and my return to exercise videos in the meantime. <3

In standard Friday fashion, here are some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear when you’re enjoying, too, so please shout it out in the comments if you’d like:

MADRE IS COMING. YASSSSSS. Also, how is it that preschoolers are so well-behaved for their nanas? I can’t wait to see her, and also looking at Book of Mormon tickets for next week. I heard it’s hilarious.

A huge highlight of this past week was spending a couple of days at Disney with my favorite people. Livi had such a blast, and it was a fun little getaway.

These LJ shorts. I wanted a black flattering pair with a little something extra, and these are perfect. The mesh detail is unique and adds flair without bright colors or patterns.

How miss P goes down for naps. This is ridiculous, but when I put her down for naps, I lie with her on the bed for about 5 minutes. She inchworms her body over until she’s smashed against me, and we lie forehead to forehead and she closes her eyes. When she’s still awake but super sleepy, I transport her to the crib. A friend said I’m creating bad habits but I’m like don’t curr haha.

Nap w miss p

Good motivation to focus and get ish done.

An awesome spin workout!

Thanks for blowing my mind, Starbucks.

The best 5 oils for your kitchen.

I can’t wait to try this kettlebell workout.

Work, sleep, family, fitness or friends?

Kombucha on tap at Tender Greens.

Tender greens

Thank you so much to Monica for including me!

Damn, Sia. Girlfriend can sing.

I still have mixed emotions about Plant Power. I tried out the “raw tacos” but this is what was in the mix:

It was delicious, but I don’t see the tacos? They lied.

Maybe this will be my new beauty product obsession.

Should everyone go gluten-free?

I love Adele… and Ellen. “I feel like a deer in the forest.” You have to watch the video. I was dying laughing.

Seeing Miss P in the outfits Liv wore when she was a baby. <3

Happy Fri-YAY!

Awwww, Gina. Sleeping with Ms. P like that is the absolute sweetest. And my best sleeper, my oldest, used to nap with me just that way! So cute. I liked the Inc. share. What’s the equivalent for moms? Throw in kid survival and pick 3?

I’m excited about the Body after Baby launch too. Can’t wait!

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:18 pm

  4. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on February 19, 2016 at 6:58 am

Book of Mormons is hilarious. I saw it in NYC a few years ago and died laughing. Well, not really because I’m still alive. haha! You must see it!

  5. Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine on February 19, 2016 at 7:13 am

Now that smile is a great way to end a Friday post 😉

  6. Mary on February 19, 2016 at 7:21 am

Just started rosehip oil this week!

    • Janice on February 20, 2016 at 7:29 pm

Me too, last week. Can’t recommend it enough. I’m using it to wash my face with at night. I smooth on about 1/2 tsp, let it soak for a second and then cover it with a steamy hot washcloth for a minute before wiping it away. It leaves my skin crazy soft and feeling so refreshed. Bonus – the 60 seconds of holding the hot washcloth against my face has become a pleasure ritual of mindfulness that lets me pause at the end of the day and take note of how blessed I am.

Livi and Miss P are so adorable! Miss P reminds me of a Livi Mini Me when she was a baby; they have the same crazy happy smile and shine with sweetness.

  7. Holly on February 19, 2016 at 7:42 am

Snuggling your baby before sleep is not a bad habit. I nursed my daughter to sleep (she’s also a Penelope!) and I was told the same thing. Those are my favorite memories and I wouldn’t change a thing.

  8. Lauren @ Oh Hey! I Like That! on February 19, 2016 at 7:48 am

Book of Mormon is SO funny! I saw it with my mama, too!

  9. Crystal on February 19, 2016 at 7:58 am

Um wut…I laughed out loud at those “tacos.” Your meal at Tender Greens though…yumm that looks so good. I think if I lived there I’d go broke from eating out all the time, lol. Have a great weekend!!

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:12 pm

the struggle is real. there are so many great restaurants! and we never did a big grocery shop since we were at disney, so we ate out a lot this week. oops

  10. Janelle on February 19, 2016 at 8:18 am

Omg P is so adorable. She is going to be gorgeous!!

Your LJ shorts link just goes to the website. Which shorts are you talking about? Thanks!

  11. RachelG on February 19, 2016 at 8:26 am

Book of Mormon is insanely hilarious albeit highly inappropriate. There’s an entire musical number devoted to a certain four letter word, and it was maybe the best part of the show. You need to see it and maybe you’ll have some real Mormons hanging out outside like we did. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:11 pm

haha! i’m excited to see it

  12. Katie M on February 19, 2016 at 9:02 am

omg Miss P is the cutest little baby! Kombucha at Tender Greens?! I’m there, I hope they have it at my local one! What is your favorite healthiest salad there or meal?! I have only had the Ahi one before. Thanks! I want to see Book of Mormon so bad too!

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:10 pm

ahhh so many things i love! the vegan tomato soup (pictured), kale salad with salt and pepper chicken, hot plate with ahi tuna, mashed potatoes and veggies. i also like the happy vegan salad and the market one with chicken

  13. Meagan Leanne on February 19, 2016 at 9:34 am

That Ellen video was the best! I watched it twice yesterday and ohh it had me laughing! She also reposted the Kristen Bell/Sloth video and it’s still so good. Ellen makes for happy times.

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:09 pm

i was crying laughing. adele played along so well!

Miss P is adorable! Her smile is the cutest! Also, I love tendergreens. This is the second blog post I’ve read this week that it popped up on. YUM.

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:08 pm

tender greens is the best <3

  17. Julie on February 19, 2016 at 10:54 am

I’ve seen Book of Mormon twice. It’s fantastic! Just be aware there’s LOTS of f-bombs & other colorful language so don’t take someone who’s going to be offended by that kind of language.

Yes, you are probably creating a bad habit w/ P’s naptime ritual, but no judgment here! Just know what you might be getting yourself into: When my daughter was somewhere between 1 or 2, (I can’t even remember why I did this) I laid her across my lap for “cuddle time” b/c she wasn’t ready for her crib that night for some reason. She ended up falling asleep, & I laid her in her crib later. She asked for “cuddle time” again the next night. Fast forward to over a YEAR later!!! I have no regrets; it was as enjoyable for me as it was for her, & by that time I was ready to sit down & relax for a bit anyway. I can’t remember how we broke the habit (she’s 16 now!), but I don’t think it was too traumatic, or I’d remember. Just be aware that they can develop habits FAST! 😉 <3

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:07 pm

haha good to know. i don’t think my mom or betsy will be offended 🙂
i can totally see that happening! but like you said, i don’t care 😉 it’s a nice chance for me to snuggle and relax for a bit

  18. Gina on February 19, 2016 at 11:02 am

LOVE the photos of the girls – OMG!! They are beautiful! Gina (from Mass)

  19. Tracy on February 19, 2016 at 11:27 am

Miss P sure can rock those cute hand-me-downs!

I’m interested in the LJ shorts but the link just goes to the LJ home page. What are the shorts called? Or can you share another link? Thanks!!

    Happy weekend!! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:05 pm

      thank you!
i fixed the link but here it is! http://www.lornajane.com/101505/Core-Power-Short-Tight they feel awesome and are super flattering. they run small

      • Tracy on February 20, 2016 at 10:38 am

Thx! Oh gosh those are so cute! Do you know how long the inseam is? The description doesn’t say. Good to know they run small tho!

        • Fitnessista on February 20, 2016 at 12:48 pm

i’m not sure. they’re not too bootylicious though. i prefer longer inseams and these feel appropriate to wear out and about for me haha

  20. masala girl on February 19, 2016 at 11:31 am

love the link share this week! and um, i’m all for innovation and creativity… those are NOT tacos. it still looks like a good meal, but i’d be very disappointed!

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:04 pm

right?! it was delicious, but a container of lies

  21. Alison on February 19, 2016 at 12:16 pm

You will NEVER regret the time you took to snuggle your babies. Best. thing. ever. My boys who are 8 and 9 still like me to lay with them for a few minutes at bedtime. It’s become a safe and relaxed time when we talk through problems or giggle about silly things that happen during the day. I love it and know it’s going to be over way too fast.

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:03 pm

i totally agree. i look forward to it every night! (even though sometimes liv won’t let me leave hahah)

  22. Jessie R on February 19, 2016 at 2:11 pm

The girls are too cute and Disney looks awesome! I read this on Huff Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amy-westervelt/having-it-all-kinda-sucks_b_9237772.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular, and dang… truth! We cannot do it all. YAY for mom visiting!

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:02 pm

SO MUCH YES. i just got sucked into that post and all of the awesome comments.

  23. Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me on February 19, 2016 at 2:18 pm

You have to go see The Book of Mormon! It’s absolute hysterical, as long as you’re not easily offended. Definitely go check it out if you can swing somewhat cheap tickets! I’d go back and see it if I had the chance. Have a wonderful weekend, Gina! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 19, 2016 at 7:02 pm

i’m definitely not easily offended. hahaha 🙂
hope you have a great weekend!

  24. Jeanna on February 19, 2016 at 8:25 pm

I’m local and I’d love to try the dance class you’re teaching of possible. Please email me at information if there are spots available.

    Thank you,

  25. LJ on February 20, 2016 at 4:31 am

I just have to comment on Miss P’s bad napping habits: I am absolutely sure she will not do that as a teenager. And you can’t believe how time flies by… As a mom of a teen girl I sure do miss the cuddling…

And as another Friday Fave: I just love the hairdos I have seen on Liv lately. The braids are awesome. (I just didn’t have the time to comment sooner.) You might consider a beauty page featuring her hair, if she is willing to model for it…

  26. Jennifer on February 20, 2016 at 10:02 am

“It was delicious, but I don’t see the tacos? They lied. ”
XD My feeling for most raw tacos. 99% they are awesome but not taco enough.

  27. jen on February 20, 2016 at 10:01 pm

Hi, I love reading your blog! I am however extremely disappointed in how many people think making “fun” of someone else’s religion is hilarious??? You know Mormons are real people right? And you know the book of Mormon is extremely sacred to all Mormons right? Anyway I do not think you in any way mean for this to be mean or vindictive but for someone who promotes kindness, joy and especially acceptance it seems odd that this would be a chosen source of entertainment? Anyway I’m just hoping you can see this from another perspective and maybe re-think what should be offensive to all and not support it.

    • Fitnessista on February 21, 2016 at 5:02 pm

      Hi Jen,
Thank you so much for reading and for your comment. I wanted to see it because i love theatre and musicals, and after learning more about it, I’m skipping this one. Xoxo

Aww the way you guys nap sounds so sweet!

  29. Alyssa on February 22, 2016 at 3:06 am

This is awesome. I love your Friday favs. I need to pin the link about “Getting Ish Done.” It was a great reminder of how to focus more and avoid distractions. I have started checking my email for an hour when I get to work and then turning off notifications so I can concentrate completely on my projects. It’s crazy how the smallest interruptions can be time-vampires. Thanks for sharing!
