Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope you’re having a wonderful morning. <3 What are you up to this weekend? We have a friend’s birthday party, I’m getting a much-needed haircut, and am excited to hit up a Orangetheory class.

It’s time to dive into this week’s Friday Faves party, and share some faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, if you’d like to play along in the comments section.

Sup

A major highlight from the week: a visit from Kyle and Meg! Now that they’re back in Tucson, we get to see them more often, which is amazing because we’ve missed them like crazy. Liv was in heaven, and P kept flashing her whole-body smile at them. It was a short trip, but we managed to enjoy quite a few adventures, in addition to chilling around the house.

Wednesday afternoon was a family walk to Tiki Port, chatting at home, and then we all went to the gym while I taught spin. After spin, P’s babysitter came to hang out with her since she has an early bedtime, and the rest of us headed out to Little Italy for dinner. We’ve been wanting to take Kyle and Meg to Queenstown Public House since we moved here; it has a charming vintage vibe, awesome food and cocktails.

The fam 2

We shared a giant cheese board and the dreamiest soft pretzel, and for my entree, I tried the quinoa salad with chicken. The salad with amazing; I can’t wait to replicate it at home! It was packed with chopped veggies and a mint-orange vinaigrette.

Even though we were full from dinner, we rallied and walked over to Extraordinary Desserts.

Desserts

Desserts 2

It was our first time (WHY?!) and it definitely lived up to the hype. The case was filled with beautiful sweet treats, and we ordered an assortment.

The chocolate peanut butter cookie was everything I like in a cookie: crisp on the outside, soft with melted chocolate chips on the inside.

Pb cookie

Thursday morning, we had breakfast burritos at home, then were off to Mission bay for a day of paddleboarding.

Sup 3

Beach baby

(If you know a secret to preventing your baby from ripping their hat off their head, please let me know. The struggle is real. She HATES them. P has pretty fair skin so we usually spend most of the time under the umbrella or in our beach tent.)

The weather was perfection, and we had a blast paddling around the bay. The rest of the day included walking around and oysters at the Liberty Station market,

and dinner at Stone Brewing.

Tacos

I’m glad that we’ll see them again soon next month when we make the drive to T-town.

Newsletter friends, you’ll get all the week 3 info in your inbox later today. I’ll also have the prenatal mods up earlier this weekend on the PBB site for my mama friends who are following along. <3

I think I mentioned this on here before, but I’m a huge fan of The Skimm.

Skimm logo

The Skimm is ONLY daily email I receive from a company that I actually check. I love that it’s a (for the most part) non-biased approach to news, and they break complex issues down into a concise, easy-to-understand format. They remove a lot of the fluff and opinions from world news, and I really enjoy reading it. Also, a Snapchat friend let me know that if you share The Skimm they are having a contest TO GO SEE HAMILTON IN NYC. I almost never enter contests, but I’m entering this one haha. So if you’d like to help a girl out, sign up for The Skimm here and enjoy the daily news blast in your inbox. (You’ll also receive your own referral link to share with friends and enter fun contests like this one. If I win, which is a long shot, I promise the most excited Snapchat videos in the history of Snapchat.)

Bombas! Always a fave, and I love that Liv can fit in their socks too. The family that Bombas together, stays together. 😉 We all share a preference for these awesome socks.

Bombas(Also, don’t forget that you can use the code FITNESSISTA to get 20% off!)

Simple yet intense total body slam ball workout.

Quinoa nutrition fun facts and recipes.

Best running songs for summer.

Thank you to my friends at POPSUGAR for sharing my “Fitness for vanity” post.

I read this book a few years ago, and just saw that the movie is coming out in the fall. Excited to see it and cry haha.

I need this cake in my life.

In not-so-fave news, we officially found out where we’ll be living next. I want to make sure everyone knows what’s going on before I spread the word on the blog, but I should be able to post the details here next week.

And now, the P smile of the day:

FullSizeRender 18

(These two are just the sweetest together. The U of A dress used to the Liv’s.)

Have a very happy Friday!

xoxo

Aww, I hope I can have a couple girls so they can wear hand me down clothes <3 I'm excited to find out where you guys are moving to!

    • Fitnessista on July 22, 2016 at 10:40 am

it’s the best! i feel like each time i open an enormous bag of stored clothes, we have almost everything she needs. the tricky part is that p is wearing clothes that liv wore when she was a year and a half, so we’ll see how this continues to work haha

      • Meagan @ My Life as Mrs on July 22, 2016 at 8:39 pm

Lol well that will be funny if they ever do catch up. I don’t know if I’ve missed it or not, but do you have any sister matchy outfits for them? Something cute like little watermelon dresses would be adorable 🙂

The Sunday Afternoons brand hat is the ONLY one that my 1 year old won’t rip off. And it’s great because it has a ton of coverage over his face and neck. We cinch it tight around his head and tend to leave the chin strap loose enough so that it doesn’t bother him. He’s only taken it off once or twice in the past few months, while all the other hats we’ve tried were off in a matter of seconds.

He’s 13 months so we bought him the kids hat instead of the baby hat even when he was under 1 – but his head circumference is also in the 98th percentile, so….labor was fun.

hahah i’m right there with you. p has a 98% head, too. crazy
i might order one and see how she does. thank you!

      • Sophie on July 24, 2016 at 4:49 am

I second that hat!! Amazing! Any of that brand they struggle to pull off!

  3. Tessa on July 22, 2016 at 6:37 am

They are so cute! We spent last weekend at Start Pass and it was perfect, monsoons and all. Getting back to the gym this week after a not fun back injury. Good luck on the move, has to be hard to leave San Diego.

  4. Meagan on July 22, 2016 at 6:41 am

I am very excited to find out where you’ll be headed to next! I’ve been reading your blog daily since you lived in Georgia 🙂 I’m sure it will be bittersweet for you, but an adventure for sure.

  13. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on July 22, 2016 at 8:21 am

So my in-laws took me to Extraordinary Desserts last time I was down knowing what a sweet tooth I have, and believe it or not – we didn’t get anything and ended up going elsewhere for dessert. At the time, the lines were super long and all of the good stuff was picked over. 🙁 I did enjoy perusing though. Clearly you need to go back before you move. Happy weekend, Gina!

    • Fitnessista on July 22, 2016 at 10:32 am

ahhh no way! it was pretty busy when we were there, and it was a wednesday night. it’s probably insane over the weekends.
hope you had a great week <3

  14. masala girl on July 22, 2016 at 9:00 am

P and Liv, so cut together! and i remember that squat burner, so good 😀
a fav: this came up in my timehop that i shared, and i’m glad i got to read it again! http://fitnessista.com/2014/07/investing-in-self-care/
a not fav: i’ve been sick for a week 🙁 haven’t been able to workout as i’m coughing almost non stop like 20 hours a day haha. ugh 🙁

    • Fitnessista on July 22, 2016 at 10:25 am

i forgot about that post- thanks for sharing <3
hope that cough goes away soon 🙁

  15. Michaela on July 22, 2016 at 9:05 am

Hi, Gina! OK, I need to ask a question. You make it look so effortless to take your girls out to eat. I have two little ones also (4 and almost 2) but taking my kids out to eat tends to overwhelm me (I admit part of it is probably due to the fact that we don’t do it very often!). Do you have any pro tips as to how you keep your kids occupied at a restaurant, especially for those moments you’re stuck waiting to be seated/to eat/to get the bill? I’d love to know your secret!

    • Fitnessista on July 22, 2016 at 10:22 am

we love to go out to eat, so it’s always been one of those things that we were like “i hope the girls can hang, because this is happening” haha and thankfully they’ve done really well. liv is a pro, and p has been awesome so far.
some of the things that have helped:
going to eat early. p goes down at 7, so we’re usually at the restaurant by 5 for dinner
zero expectations. we’re always ready to get food to go if needed and head home, but knock on wood, i don’t think we’re really had to do that. when i take the girls by myself, if i didn’t get to eat a ton of my food, i’ll pack the rest up to go
for liv: crayons, and a couple of dolls to play with. she has always loved small doll figurines and will play with them really well. we also order her food, or an appetizer, with our drinks so she has something to snack on right away.
for p: i’ll bring puffs with us, a pouch and some toys. we’ll usually walk around with her, or let her sit on one of our laps until the food arrives and then put her into her high chair. then she’s happy eating puffs, bits of my food or a pouch while we eat our entrees
usually a little while after we get our entree, if we’re not getting dessert, we’ll hand our server our credit card. the girls are usually getting ready to go at that point, so at least we know the bill is paid when everyone is done eating
      hope this helps a little!!

      • Michaela on July 22, 2016 at 11:32 am

Thank you for the tips/perspective! And I love your approach, in sharing with the girls something you & your husband enjoy rather than cutting it out of your activities. Have a great weekend!

  16. Meredith on July 22, 2016 at 9:21 am

I LOVED the Light Between Oceans!! I didn’t know they were turning it into a movie. Definitely would need to bring a big wad of tissues!

i just call them the p smile of the day because they started out as her huge gummy newborn smiles. liv is usually in the pic too. 🙂 i like to share different photos of the girls, but there is usually one p smiley pic each week that cracks me up, so i like to share it

i might eat the whole thing though haha

        • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on July 22, 2016 at 10:23 am

We always did icebox cakes in my family growing up but it was always just graham crackers and homemade chocolate whipped cream… it NEVER occurred to me that I could totally change it up and make an icebox cake with any flavors that I want.

I should probably make a tiny one because I know I would totally lose control haha.

  20. Tracy on July 22, 2016 at 10:30 am

    Sounds like a fun visit from M & K!!

This weekend we’re (all 6 of us in my family) going to Omaha to visit my 98 year old grandma 🙂

I’ve been so interested to hear where you’ll be living next! I’m sorry to hear it’s a “not so fave” 🙁 Hopefully it will still be a good experience!
