Friday Faves

Hi friends! Happy Friday! Hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead. We are going apple picking (and pie-eating haha), going out with friends, and celebrating the Pilot’s birthday (which is on Monday). It’s going to be a great one.

I wanted to apologize for the tech issues lately with the blog. First my baby site crashes my full site (PBB was a little firecracker this week), and many of you have let me know my posts haven’t been showing up on Bloglovin’ and Feedly. Bloglovin’ fixed the problem, but I’m hoping we can get Feedly figured out soon. Latest post is on the family page here if you missed it!

It’s time to head into the Faves from the week and around the web. I always love to hear what you’re enjoying, too, so please shout it out in the comments section if you would like to join in the fun.

It’s challenge time! I’m going to be hosting a quick 7-day challenge, starting on November 1st. If you want to join in the party, make sure you’re on my email list by signing up below. I’ll be emailing out all of the details next week so we can rock it on November 1. It’s a great way to reset cravings, bump up the motivation, and have a team to cheer each other on. We’ll also have a private Facebook group where I’ll chime in each day to answer questions.

A special thanks to Jazzercise for inviting me to guest post on their blog! Please check out my post here with tips on staying healthy (and sane) during the busy holiday season. 🙂

A fun date night. We had a formal event for the Pilot’s work, and I officially took my dress shopping procrastination to a new level. It started at 5pm, and at 2pm yesterday, I was at Macy’s scurrying around for a dress and taking votes/advice via Snapchat.  (Username is fitnessista if you’d like to follow the shenanigans.)

I was IN LOVE with this dress.

Fitting room selfie

I’m tempted to go back and get it for upcoming holiday fancypants events because it’s so gorgeous in person. I’m in between sizes and obviously wouldn’t have had time to get it tailored in the 3 hours yesterday, but it’s seriously amazing. (Also, dresses are 20% off in our store right now! I’m not sure if all Macy’s are doing it, but definitely worth checking out.)

I rolled with the red Ralph Lauren dress that was super comfy and fit perfectly.

With my handsome date. 🙂

We had a blast hanging out with everyone, drinking margaritas, and listening to inspiring speakers. Also, the DJ got it bumpin’ EARLY. He was playing Drake before I could finish my Caesar salad. It was a great night, and Livi had so much fun painting pumpkins with our awesome babysitter after P crashed for bed.

Clapping for Patagonia.

Tips on bullet journaling. I already kind of do this in my Erin Condren planner, but am thinking about switching over in the new year. I’m wondering if there’s a great hybrid planner out there?

Really love this new feature on Instagram.

I want to try this golden cauliflower bread!

Need this sugary goodness in my life.

The matching jammies crew. I can’t even.

Matching Jammies 1

I couldn’t get a pic of them both smiling at the same time haha.

Matching Jammies 2

KIMCHI. Ever since I made that tempeh sandwich -I’ll have the how-to for my favorite tempeh up next week- I’ve been enjoying kimchi each day. This version from Whole Foods is delicious! Kimchi is a great source of fiber and probiotics, and the spicy kick in this flavor is perfection.

Kimchi True life. Even though if I have more than 1 glass, I’m hurting the next day.

Slow cooker soup recipes.

BBQ sweet potato chicken casserole.

This chia pudding looks amaaaaazing.

Pumpkin spice non-lattes.

This is like two faves mixed together, but I’ve been really into the Model Health podcast. Shawn’s voice is so.dang.smooth, and I could listen to him talk about health and fitness all day haha. (His co-host and producer Jade is so lovely and fun, too.) They invite experts and medical professionals from the wellness space, and I recently listened to the episode about the microbiome with MD and author Robynne Chutkan. I didn’t even know what the microbiome was (it’s the collection of bacteria, viruses and organisms living within or on the human body) until listening, and downloaded her book on my Kindle immediately. She spoke about how we’re over-sanitized as a population, and that bacteria and germs are actually helpful for the human body. She discussed how certain medications and foods can disrupt balance, and ideas to replace important bacteria and restore health. I’m so excited to dive in and learn more about internal healing.

Robynne Chutkan The Microbiome Solution

Can’t wait to try this baked salmon.

Today, I’m checking out a new spin class, taking care of some chores and to-dos, and then hitting the zoo with the girls.

Have a very happy Friday!
xoxo

I’m so sad that Feedly isn’t working! I tried remove the subscription and adding it back in but that didn’t seem to help. 🙁

Also – you looked HOT in that red dress!!! Hope that’s not weird? haha Have a great weekend!

    • Jennifer on October 21, 2016 at 1:29 pm

I’ve also had issues with Feedly. The remove/add did not work for me either!

You look gorgeous in that red dress! I would definitely go back for the other one. It’s HARD to find nice dresses. You have to snatch them up when you can! Does stitch fix do evening dresses or just casual?

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:55 pm

i think they just do more date night type dresses but no formal stuff

    Hi Gina,

I love both dresses…and encourage you to cave on the temptation to buy Option 1 as well!

On the topic of planners, I recently switched to the Planner Pad and I’m a big fan. It’s a hybrid of the general to-do list, the must-do list for each day, and the appointment book. (https://plannerpads.com/)

    Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:53 pm

yes, i think it’s going to happen. thank you for the planner pad link too! i’ll check it out now!

You guys looked amazing last night! Love the dress too — so hot in red! And as far as Shawn Stevenson — I’ve been obsessed with The Model Health Show for about a year. In fact, I got to do an on-camera interview with Shawn a few months ago for 24, and let me tell you — he is the COOLEST in person. LOVE him! I also enjoyed that episode with Dr. C. as well. Oh an about bullet journals — I’ve been reading up on them lately as well and may start it up. Happy Friday, Gina! SO glad you got the feed fixed!

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:53 pm

      thank you so much, friend!
i can’t believe you met him! it seems like he’s just as down-to-earth and real as he is on the podcast. i love him!
hope you had a great weekend <3

      • Allison on October 24, 2016 at 4:55 pm

Thanks so much for introducing me to this podcast! I’ve listened to two so far and love it. Are there any episodes that really stand out that I need to listen to ASAP?? Otherwise I’ll work my way through all of them. Can’t believe I’d never heard of this before!

        • Fitnessista on October 25, 2016 at 10:47 pm

yay so happy you love it!
did you listen to the ariana huffington interview yet? that’s the one that got me hooked

          • Allison on October 28, 2016 at 3:04 pm

The red dress looked beautiful on you! So glad you found a dress that fits on the same day! I’m 5″2 and always need things hemmed. Have a great weekend!

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:53 pm

thank you!! i’m 5’4 (1/2. don’t forget the 1/2) haha and i feel like formal dresses are always too long. thankful for petite options because the length is usually perfect on those

  12. Amanda Gallagher on October 21, 2016 at 12:51 pm

I’d like to join the 7 day challenge – how do I sign up?

  13. Jessie R on October 21, 2016 at 1:30 pm

Love the dress! And YES to Patagonia! The whole maternity leave topic just frustrates me to now end. It’s almost 2017 (2017!!!) and we still don’t have mandated paid maternity in America. I work for a pretty progressive company, and this is the one area it continues to fail. Our 2017 benefits were just announced, and a lot of us were hoping to see some big maternity changes, but no such luck. Needless to say, a lot of people are frustrated. If only executives could see that it’s in everyone’s interest to offer more support.

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:51 pm

      it seriously baffles me.

  14. Sue on October 21, 2016 at 2:57 pm

OMG the girls and those pajamas, how cute are they!!?? That is for sure my Friday Fave!

  15. queenoffitness on October 21, 2016 at 3:51 pm

I gotta give you some props on the butternut squash crockpot lasagna recipe! All the hands up emojis! One of my coworkers grows butternut squash in her garden and I made it the other night. It is absolutely delicious. Also, I say buy that first dress for another time. So beautiful.

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:50 pm

i love it with eggs, in salads, or on top of protein

  19. Fancy on October 22, 2016 at 7:27 am

What brand are those pajamas? I’m always looking for matching clothes for my kids (girl and boy) but not all brands come in such a wide variety of sizes (12 month boy and size 6 girl). Any advice?

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:49 pm

carter’s! at target they have a huge range of sizes. p is 18 months and liv is a 5T so we can still get them both in the same section for now.

  20. jenny l. on October 23, 2016 at 1:05 pm

I’m also having problems with feedly. If it helps, I noticed that the web address shows as fitnessista.com instead of http://www.fitnessista.com The last post that showed on feedly was Oct 14. 🙁

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:48 pm

interesting. it’s tricky because they don’t seem to have real customer service. my feed code is working and bloglovin’ tweaked the issue on their side of things, but i don’t know what to do next with feedly. i tweeted them but that’s it. hopefully it will resolve this week!

  21. Bethany on October 23, 2016 at 5:13 pm

    • Fitnessista on October 25, 2016 at 10:42 pm

ahhh! thanks for checking in. i hope they fix it soon, too! i emailed support twice today so fingers crossed we can get the ball rolling

  25. Erika S. on October 26, 2016 at 8:13 pm

I like to pretend I am a giant ball of sparkles and glitter…that first dress was gorgeous…the red one looked great on you!

Kimchi is amazing!!!! I’m half Korean so I’ve been eating it forever…it’s the perfect side dish/topping/snack etc. If you have leftover kimchi that’s aged/fermented a bit, you can make kimchi fried rice…it’s the BEST!!!!!! If you want any other Korean recipes, I really like the ones by Seonkyoung Longest…hers seem to be pretty similar to my mom’s so I trust her…hahaha!

    http://seonkyounglongest.com/easy-kimchi-fried-rice/

    • Fitnessista on October 28, 2016 at 4:24 pm

AHHH thank you for the recipe! i need to make it this weekend <3
