Get to werk

Hi friends! How are you? Hope you’re having a great weekend so far <3

garlic

[Just in case you ever wanted to know what an entire head/thing of garlic looks like after cooking in black beans all day, there ya go.]

It was one of those days where I had to wake up,

get to work steaming eggs for snack

steamer

packing lunch

lunch

[*this salad*, hummus, bell pepper and spinach sandwich, applesauce]

making my bfast to eat while I got ready

oats

[PB & J protein oats!]

and starting the black beans, which I’m taking to the bridal shower tonight. (After cooking, they look lovely and fluffy, not so much liquid and the garlic things have been removed)

beans

They’ve been cooking all day (high on 4 hours, low for 4 hours) with lots garlic, cumin, oregano, sea salt and water. Cooking beans this way is soooooo easy and tastes pretty much foodgasmic.

Then I went to work

got to werk it at Zumba 🙂

and am now back at the casa.

me (2)

[I got paparazzi’ed again when I walked in the door, haha]

I’m about to get ready for the shower, pack up the frijoles and wine, along with my U of A gear. A few of ya asked what I picked up shopping yesterday so I’ll show you my gift for the bride: [I’m pretty sure she won’t read the blog before then]

gifts

A cute apron from William’s Sonoma and the “Homemade” cookbook from Anthro.

It’s also *on Amazon* – a gorgeous cookbook with an emphasis on whole, local foods, beautiful photography and unique recipes.

I won’t be at the shower for very long since we have U of A tickets and get to watch the Cats smack Stanford.

Maybe. Haha.

Do you have a *team*?

I don’t care about sports too much, but always cheer for my alma mater 🙂

See ya laterrrr <3

xoxo

The beans look so good. Cute shower gifts too. I don’t like football but for some reason I’m a Gator fan. It’s in my blood. Have a great time!

You look super cute! Oh and I need your black bean recipe!

  6. fittingbackin on September 17, 2011 at 7:19 pm

    LOVE that apron!

So… I found a machine JUST like the one pictured above in my pantry. (Yes, I was cleaning out the pantry as there was SO much stuff in there I wasn’t using, like said machine). It’s a steamer, right?!

What do you make in it? I’m going to try steaming some stuff tomorrow – holla with any recipes!!

That black workout top you’re wearing is on sale for $9 at target now. I was reading a message forum for my work and someone called it “Whole Paycheck” too. Hmmm, Fitnessista fan? Or a coincidence?

  8. Vicki on September 17, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Those beans look delicious! Love that there is an entire head of garlic in there too! 🙂

Can I ask you though (or any other Americans reading comments!) what is the purpose of a bridal shower? We don’t do them in the UK at all and I just don’t understand what they are for! :p It’s different to a hen night/bachelorette? Is it just so the bride gets gifts?

  9. Army Amy* on September 17, 2011 at 7:31 pm

As hard as it is to be a fan, I root for the Dallas Cowboys since I live in Texas. As for college football, I gotta cheer for my Texas Tech Red Raiders!*

  10. Lauren Boito on September 17, 2011 at 7:44 pm

Go Hokies! for college football. Pro my husband is a Jacksonville Jaguars fan, so I am too, also ANYONE PLAYING the cowboys. Baseball I love the Chicago Cubs. Yes, I know it’s been over 100 yrs since they won the world series.

That damn paparazzi! They follow me everywhere too 😉

  12. Amanda on September 17, 2011 at 7:50 pm

hmmm…I’m going to have to disagree with you and say it’s all about Stanford tonight 🙂

  13. Melodie on September 17, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Every time I crockpot beans, they end up mushy and they fall apart. I don’t care that much about texture. But the hubs is not a fan of the mushiness. So making a mental not of 4hours on high and 4hours on low. Thanks!

  14. Brittany on September 17, 2011 at 8:16 pm

    I’m a Sun Devil! Go ASU! 🙂

  15. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 17, 2011 at 8:41 pm

I don’t have a team. It’s called Team Mall. i.e. I go to the mall and try not to spend too much money while games are on. Good use of free time 🙂

And I saw that W. Sonoma bag (just barely) the edge of it in your last post…and I knew you had goodies in there.

W.S. goodies AND an Antrho gift = lucky girl!!

I made black beans today too. Like it’s been a year? since i made them. Ironic we both did black beans today!

  16. Terran Leigh on September 17, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Out “team” are the MSU Spartans! My beau and I both graduated from MSU and we now live in the South Bend area. We were lucky and able to attend the MSU vs. Notre Dame game here in Indiana today. We got smashed but that is just fine! Hope you and the Pilot have a great time at the game 🙂

  17. Alissa on September 17, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Hope you had a BLAST!! Where did you get your watch/ what brand is it? I am looking for a great white one. Thank you and I LOVE you blog!!

  18. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on September 17, 2011 at 9:34 pm

That’s the perfect gift!! And I like UGA! I’m a dawgs fan! (Although, I don’t really like watching football that much. I just enjoy spending time with the people who like watching it!) (:

  21. Casey @ oatsandnanners on September 17, 2011 at 10:22 pm

Gina! You are the cutest pregnant person — And I love that you still focus on eating healthy and staying active. I’ll have to raid your recipe page for some good black bean ideas because I tend to fall in a run when it comes to those beans…. salads, salads, and salads! Enjoy the game and keep rockin’!

  28. Molly L on September 17, 2011 at 11:38 pm

ps… I know you prob think I’m crazy cuz my email is “@asu.edu” There is nothing in the world that pains me more than when ppl realize I go to asu for law school. I went to UA for undergrad and love the heck out of it. I also wear my UA gear ROUTINELY on campus at asu. It’s troubling for me, but I only have a few months left before I graduate.

  29. Sara on September 18, 2011 at 12:00 am

Mmm THANKS for that garlic thingy pic… ;-/ So.. appetising…
Today I went to a market and saw a little dog that looked a bit like Bella (to me, it looked exactly the same, but I’m no dog mama and it’s probably a whole different breed). I’ll be getting that pic up on my blog next if you want to check it out.

  30. Molly on September 18, 2011 at 12:33 am

I’m like you when it comes to sports- when forced to choose I always say my college. Other than that I don’t really stay in the know when it comes to sports.

Steamed egg question- do you steam them in the electric steamer for as long as you would steaming in a pan? I saw from a previous post that the eggs were steamed for 15 min, Thanks!

  41. Sarah on September 18, 2011 at 7:05 pm

Wow, all your food looks delicious! I’m afraid sports are one of those things I’m not sure I’ll ever get into… watching them, not playing them!
