Gina: Hair inspiration

It’s been a few months, so I booked an appointment with the madre to get my hair did this afternoon.

Tinsel1

(last year, I got a tiny tinsel strand)

I always tell myself I’m going to do something exciting and different, and then when I’m finally in the chair, I stick with a trim. I walk on the wild side, for sure 😉 The only time things got a little crazy was during that one crisis and I got bangs 😉

Well, today is no different. With the afternoon appointment on my brain, I can’t help but wonder if I’m finally going to bite the bullet and change it up.

Maybe some fun with color:

and/or cut…

(Just like Giuliana’s new haircut!)

But here’s the thing: my hair is SO thick, as length decreases, poufiness increases.

Once I got the grand idea to rock a bob in high school -it took SO long to grow it back- and basically, I looked like a mushroom. My mom could thin out my hair if she cut it shorter, but after a hack job in Valdosta, I appreciate my thick hair and don’t really want it thinned out again.

Not sure what’s going to happen this afternoon, but there’s one guarantee: the caterpillars above my eyes will be gone when I leave (thank goodness).

Have you changed up your hair lately? Who’s your style/hair icon? I love Giuliana Rancic and Jessica Alba.

Hope you’re having a great day <3

xoxo

You have such beautiful long, thick hair, I think you should keep the length! Try some auburn lowlights, or caramel highlights if you want to change it up. I always do the same thing, say I’m going to chop it off, and never do. Color is a great way to change it up without the commitment of a cut.

There must be something in the air because I changed my hair last week. I went from being a brunette to a blond. It took a few days to get used to but it’s awesome to have a dramatic change in just a few hours. I am all for the all over color change at the moment 🙂

Trim it. I’m doing the same. It’s too much trouble short. Trying to get cute flips and waves when long and thick is naturally pretty even without much effort. If it ain’t broke, sister!

    You have such beautiful hair!!

I did a bob with blunt bangs a few years back and now am paranoid about cutting too much after the forever grow out process. It actually looked great…minus I looked about 5 years old. Thankfully my current hairdresser loves the length and pretty much refuses to cut more than just a trim. Although with it now half way down my back it’s time to figure out a new hairdo I think!

Your hair is really pretty amazing, if I were you, I’d probably be too chicken to cut it. I have long hair but its blonde and not in NEARLY the condition yours is in. I’d say try out of some the color similar to that first photo. That could be fun!

    Do some color!!!! ombre!!

I constantly have different lengths of hair. Right now, it’s the longest I’ve had it since I last grew it out to donate a couple of years ago.

    • Fitnessista on December 18, 2012 at 5:24 pm

i would love to donate mine, but it doesn’t grow very fast :/

  8. Holli on December 18, 2012 at 4:57 pm

I’ve been growing out a short pixie cut that I’ve had for years since May. I’m really lucky that my hair grows fast and it is now an a line bob 🙂 I love it! My plan is to grow it out to shoulder length. I dream of running with a swishy ponytail..haha.

Love the Kate Beckinsale’s photo the highlights are gorgeous you should definitely do something like that! Maybe do a big trim, but not too short so you dont get the poof? I used to be so adventurous with my hair and had short, long, blonde, brown, pink, red, name it hair and now I’m a big chicken!

I think you should try the color!! I would die for hair as long as yours and I would never cut it! But that’s just me 🙂

  11. Amanda on December 18, 2012 at 5:02 pm

Do the first one! I always said that if I had dark hair then that would be the hair style I’d want! (I have it pinned!) You’d look great with those highlights thrown in … plus if you hate it then you could always dye over it!

I also have crazy thick hair and have a couple times in moments of madness just cut it all off, then I was a puffy poodle. I just got bangs a couple of weeks ago and I am LOVING them! Can’t wait to see what you get.

  13. Abby @ Change of Pace on December 18, 2012 at 5:33 pm

I don’t think thick hair should be thinned out and messed with! All your inspiration photos are gorgeous, but if you just go with a trim it’ll look brilliant, too!
I’ve been itching to get bangs for a year now. But, they aren’t really conducive to training for an ironman with swimming, bike helmets, and running.

  14. Heather (Heather's Dish) on December 18, 2012 at 5:38 pm

I have thick and super curly hair, so when it’s short it can be almost borderline obscene if it’s not done right! I think it would be fun to go a little shorter, but stick with something you know you’ll LOVE to style!

You can thin out long hair. My daughter has it done all the time. The stylist takes about an hour to make one-inch sections all around her head, twists them, and then snips 3 notches out of each twist at different levels. It’s an amazing difference, and I promise there is no way your hair could be thicker than Wendy’s! Plus hers is to her bra line. (She’s the kid on the right, before haircut: http://ow.ly/gd1Q0 after haircut & blowout: http://ow.ly/gd1UQ)

Another trick of hers, she uses a wide barrel curling iron to flat iron. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4107u9XbtzL._SY300_.jpg – we actually got this for $15 at Big Lots! She pulls it through her hair instead of winding it up, and it works better than her flat iron.

    • Fitnessista on December 18, 2012 at 5:57 pm

i know you can thin it out, but don’t want to after having it done before – the stylist basically cut holes into my hair, it was a mess to grow out

  16. Kailey on December 18, 2012 at 5:45 pm

I’m the same way when it comes to changing up my hair-I *think* I’m going to take the plunge and chop off a good number of inches and add some color (for the first time) to ring in the new year, but I could very well chicken out in the chair. ha. 🙂
That being said, I say go for it! All the styles you picked out are gorgeous and it’ll look great no matter what!

  17. Shaina on December 18, 2012 at 6:21 pm

I go through phases every so often where I want to chop, but I’m pretty sure divorce papers wouldn’t be far behind if I did haha. (Not really but Patrick REALLY likes my hair long) I got bangs for my post-baby receding hair line, but I definitely like the side-swept look better on me. Every time I actually put in the effort to do the Victoria’s Secret waves, I’m so thankful I didn’t chop my hair off.

  18. Kristen on December 18, 2012 at 8:09 pm

Your hair is gorgeous but I think it’s fun to change it up. I certainly wouldn’t go extreme and get a bob if I were you but something like Guilianna or Jessica would be pretty. It’s still long enough to curl and put in a pony tail. I always grow my hair and cut it. I like switching it up. I don’t want to look back at myself and realize that I looked EXACTLY. THE. SAME. every single year. That’s boring. Of course, that’s just my opinion.
You can certainly do what you want. But I say CUT IT!!

  19. Jenn on December 18, 2012 at 8:56 pm

I cut my hair and I’m so glad I did! I had been growing it out for four years! It was longest I have ever had my hair. I was terrified of cutting it. Everyone always talked about how long it was and told me I had nice hair, so I felt like I’d be getting rid of a part of my identity. I decided to donate it to a charity this past October. I gave 14 inches to Pantene Beautiful Lengths – they provide free wigs to women battling cancer. It was hard, but I thought about the women fighting cancer and that’s a much, much tougher thing to do. When I knew it would make someone’s fight a little easier, it was a much simpler decision to make. I’ve had bad short haircus in the past – my hair is thick too and when it’s short it can look like a mushroom. But it wasn’t about cutting my hair, it was about finding the right cut… and products. This is my before and after. http://mrsgeekischic.wordpress.com/2012/10/14/10-dollars-and-14-inches/
Bonus – it only takes 10 minutes to dry now!

I feel like right before the holidays (when LOTS of pictures will be taken) it’s not a great time for drastic changes. I think you’d look amazing with some caramel lowlights, but I wouldn’t do a drastic cut until January!

i actually just lightened my whole head 2 weeks ago, and added highlights…and got my bangs back!! i’ll send u a pic if you want. i have same hair texture as you. everyone, and i mean everyone loooves my new hair~~

    • Lizzie on December 19, 2012 at 12:07 pm

      I wanna see, too! 🙂

  22. Bek @ Crave on December 19, 2012 at 6:01 am

Maybe if you have thick hair stick with the length, or go shorter and thin it out? Love the colours on the first girl- you could defs rock that 😉

  23. Sara @ fitcupcaker on December 19, 2012 at 8:45 am

So pretty, I need to get my hair done!! I love all the waves!

  24. Mallory on December 19, 2012 at 8:49 am

My hair is VERY long (to the top of my booty) and very straight. I decided to donate it and cut a TON off. I have a bob with bangs now and I LOVE it. No more long hair for me!

  25. Kee Kee on December 19, 2012 at 8:54 am

I can totally understand the thinned out part!!! I am now praying for my hair to grow a little faster. What’s worse is I will be having a photography session tomorrow for my new job. Think twice before you cut your hair a day before you start a new job. First impression gone bad….

  26. Kelly on December 19, 2012 at 8:58 am

Like you, my hair behaves better when I keep it long but I was itching for a change. I kept the length, dyed it a darker brown (pushing black), and got straight across bangs. I was so nervous about the bangs but now I’m loving it!

  27. Molly on December 19, 2012 at 11:55 am

I LOVE Giulianna’s new hair! I’m like you, though… once I get in the chair I get too scared to do anything crazy!!

  28. Herbivore Triathlete on December 19, 2012 at 9:09 pm

I am the same way! I have all these big plans and then once in the chair, I’m all, just a trim please! I too have extremely thick and wavy hair. It is a project to blow dry and straighten it, so I usually get a cut that will allow me to do that if I want, but with 3 small kids, I need quick and easy most days. So typically my haircut will allow me to just wash and air dry, with hopes that my curls will cooperate.

  29. Sonia the Mexigarian on December 20, 2012 at 11:14 am

I have long THICK hair too and it gets HEAVY. I cut it short in high school and definitely looked like a mushroom. 🙁 I did it again in college + bleached the hell out of it and I looked like a clown. It’s been grown out to its natural color and trimmed since, but I am itching for a new do. I love Anne Hathaway’s Fatine cut and kinda like Miley’s look. (yes, I admit it) but i am afraid of ‘shrooming it again. :\
