Grandma’s still got her groove

Heyyyy! Hope you’re having a great night 🙂

I was a slight bum this afternoon after my training appointment re-scheduled. The puppers and I went for a walk, I took a nap did some work around here, and then scrounged around for my dance shoes.

Victory.

Afternoon snack was not raw… but it was vegan.. and it was delicious

macapopcorn

Air popped popcorn + vegan chocolate chips + cinnamon + maca = one of the best combos ever 😀

A little while later, I got the enchiladas out of the oven that I made for the pilot and I.

Chicken for him:

veganenchis

Vegan for me (filled with vegetarian refried beans and this filling, minus the chicken and corn), in Ezekiel tortillas and topped with extra filling and organic enchilada sauce from Whole Foods

Then, I went to dance class.

I have to say I was shaking in my tap shoes when I got there. After two and a half years of not dancing –and dancing at least 3 hrs a day for most of my life before that- I was really scared that I wouldn’t be able to do anything that I used to. Well, grandma’s still got her groove. 😀 It felt SO GOOD to do the things I’d missed… especially the kicks and leaps. I was a little shocked when I bounded off the floor just like the good ol’ days. I’m a happy kid 😉

For dinner, I had my vegan enchiladas salad beast style and topped with Herdez salsa.

beast

*in opera voice* GLOOOOOOORIOUSSSSS!

Time for me to work on stuff and answer your lovely emails 😀

See ya in the morning!

Can’t wait to see how dance class goes. I miss taking dance.

That is so exciting! It gives us all some inspiration to try things that we did when we were young!

Well, now that you’re certain you’ve still got the moves, you can dance like no one’s watching… all the time!

I always have Herdez en mi casa.. my mom lives off that stuff!

  4. Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) on December 1, 2009 at 9:36 pm

I love enchiladas! Making some on Friday when my boyf comes into town, in fact.

I did martial arts for years- from age 7 to 17. Then I went off to college and took a hiatus for… erm… 3 years. I’d love to get back into it!!

So glad your dance class went well!

I’m an avid horseback rider but I love my horsies at home while I’m at college…everytime I get back, I have to do some yoga breathing before I get in the saddle again. A few minutes later, I’m loving every second!
Congrats on your dancing! Glad to hear you’ve still got moves 😉 .

That’s amazing that you gotcha groove back 🙂

I did theater all of my life but stopped in college–and I’ve always wondered if I’ll ever be on stage again… It was sooo much less intimidating when I was younger!

I’ve been meaning to try the herdez salsa after hearing you rave about it. I’m kind of a salsa freak, so, yeah.

I used to be an avid horseback rider, too (and my mother has horses), and whenever I’m home I ride. It is kind of weird doing something that used to be so natural after not doing it for so long. I feel like my horse doesn’t know me any more!

That, and I feel like a total mess for the first 5 minutes. Then it gets better.

Glad you’ve still got your moves!

Gina I think that’s so awesome you’re taking dance classes again! It’s so important we carve some time out of the day for ourselves!
How awesome do those enchiladas look? Now will the pilot eat all of that tonight?! Or will that be his dinner tomorrow too?
    Have a great night, dear!:-)

I used to bead jewelry and I’d love to get back into it and make more earrings! For now running and yoga are my hobbies.

Wow I just noticed that all the lovely ladies who commented have blogs (can’t wait to check those out). Just yesterday I had popcorn with cinnamon and it actually tasted good. I always thought it would taste funky. I think if I added chocolate chips to it I wouldn’t be able to stop eating it. I can totally see myself living off of popcorn which is scary. I used to knit a lot from the ages of 9-17 but then I stopped because wal-mart stopped selling my favourite yarn. I wonder whether or not I can still knit with my eyes closed. Ughh it was so relaxing.

    Yay! Congrats!

I would love to get back to taking dance classes again. I did it a couple years back with one of my favorite jazz teachers from high school… but then he left and so I stopped. I really should find another instructor.

I played tennis in high school, and I would love to join an adult league. But, until I’ve got some $$$, that isn’t going to happen. Tennis is an expensive hobby!

My husband was making fun of me for tapping my feet in the elevator the other day! Ha ha.

I’m dying to get back in my dancing shoes!! And scared, too!!

I actually used to teach tap dancing classes a few years ago, then had to quit cold-turkey due to a foot injury… I was so bummed! Now that I’ve gone so long without tapping, I’m not sure what kind of skills I have left! But I’m kinda feeling motivated to search for a class now… 😉

Just seeing a picture of your tap shoes makes me want to break mine out!!

  19. lindsay on December 2, 2009 at 12:15 am

I would LOVE to dance again too, I did ballet and jazz and just remember having so much fun. I really need to go skating again sometime too, I was really competitive a loooong time ago and it would be fun to have some ice time again 🙂

  20. Sarah on December 2, 2009 at 12:47 am

yay! congrats on getting back into the dancing groove! I am really jealous. I danced for 13 years, mostly ballet, but also tap and jazz and miss it a ton! I would love, love, love to figure out how to incorporate that into my group ex classes one day. But man, ballet is hard on the joints!! Does Zumba quench your dancing thirst at all? I’m thinking about getting certified in that next.

  21. MelissaNibbles on December 2, 2009 at 5:07 am

You’re always doing such fun stuff! I danced from the age of 5 to 22. I should look into adult classes. You inspired me. Thanks 🙂

  22. MizFit on December 2, 2009 at 5:50 am

G! I’m so proud of you!! I’ve been thinking about taking a hip hop workshop on Saturdays in Boston…. but I’m so nervous to do it…. eeeek…. maybe your post was a sign I’m supposed to get off my bum….

  25. Shelby on December 2, 2009 at 8:15 am

I just had popcorn with cinnamon and chocolate the other day! I thought of you 🙂

  26. Whitney @ Lettuce Love on December 2, 2009 at 8:41 am

I took tap in middle school and I am thinking of getting back into it. I love it. I am terribly challenged in the dancing department, the beat eludes me, but I do love it. It is pure fun 🙂

  27. rhodeygirl on December 2, 2009 at 9:11 am

Gina! Your dance shoes are so old school I love them!!!!! I actually have the super “cool” tap SNEAKERS from the 90’s. Those were the hot thing back then. Luckily I have my mary janes too 🙂

Funny I don’t miss tap or jazz that much but my heart HURTS when I think about how much I miss dancing and teaching salsa. I think I need to find a studio here!

    • Fitnessista on December 2, 2009 at 9:48 am

      old: yes
actually not that old school- everyone else was wearing the same shoes
hahah those tap sneakers crack me up! i have pink dance sneakers from back in the day, too 😀

  28. K on December 2, 2009 at 9:49 am

I need to try your popcorn combo! It sounds so satisfying!! Glad you still have your groove 🙂

PS. I saw your comment about Bostons – LOVE the name you had picked out!

  29. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on December 2, 2009 at 10:13 am

I swam about 30 hrs a week in high school and haven’t been back in a pool since! I think sometimes I should give it a shot but I might drown 🙂

Congrats on the dancing, sounds fun!

I am so happy you are dancing again!!! Enjoy :)!

Dancing is just pure joy! You’re having fun while sweating it out. If I can’t find a running buddy soon, I will have to switch back to dancing. I’ll just pop in a dance dvd and go around traipsing around the house. LOL. Interesting blog you have here. 🙂

    Aww, I miss tap dancing!

  33. jeri on December 2, 2009 at 11:45 am

Hopefully you’re not TOO sore today from the dance class. I can imagine those leaps could put some hurt in the legs after not doing them for a while. 🙂

  34. JavaChick on December 2, 2009 at 2:00 pm

I used to love to play the piano, but once I moved away from home I didn’t have access to one any more. I am finally getting my very own digital piano so I can start playing again (after 12 years – eek).
