Here Comes the Storm

Hey hey heyyyy 😀 How are ya? Hope you’ve had an amazing day.

It’s GLOOMY and cold here in Tucson!

stormy

While I haaaaate the cold and rain, one good thing comes out of it:

boots

Sparkly sweater slippers! They’re spectacular 😉

(Victoria’s Secret, last year)

I plan on spending the evening inside, watching movies with the roomies and doing the work thang.

Earlier today, I munched a glorious lunch at work:

tamale

A head/stalk/thing of romaine with fresh salsa and a vegan tamale from Sunday’s famer’s market. The tamale had black beans, red peppers and corn. As excited as I was about it, I found out later today that they also make tamales with SWEET POTATO MASA. Be still, my tamale-loving heart 🙂 I can’t wait to get my hands on some. (*This weekend I’ll be doing a tamale how-to post! Should be fun)

Also, a Sun Warrior smoothie:

smoothie

It was lovely as ever.

Dinner is in the oven waiting.. it smells like an Indian Food Wonderland in here.

dinner

I’m off to make salads and heat up naan 🙂

Hope you have a great night and I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s your favorite chilly weather piece of clothing or accessory? For me, it quickly became my Wunder Unders- I don’t know how I lived without them for so long! They’re wunderful <—– couldn’t help it 😉 I have about 5 pairs now and wear them allllllllll the time- they look cute with my Toms, for yoga, or with boots and a sweater.

I can’t wait for the tamale how-to post! I’m always drooling over your tamales!

Right now my favorite piece of cold weather gear are my UnderArmour cold gear tights! They have pink stripes down the sides–so they’re cute, comfy, AND warm! 🙂

I wish that salad + tamale was sitting in front of me right now!! i just got a pair of fitted wool socks for christmas. i had NO IDEA a pair of socks could be as amazing as these, but they’ve pretty much changed my central heat-less life 🙂

I am obsessed with the Wunder Unders! As an avid legging wearer and someone living in a cold climate, they’re amazzzzing. I have the fleece lined ones and they are SO cozy. Love.

  9. kelli on December 29, 2010 at 9:54 pm

I need some wunder unders.. i think you should do a giveaway 😉
Do you think the lulu outlet would have those?

    • Fitnessista on December 29, 2010 at 9:56 pm

that would be an excellent giveaway!
when i worked at the outlet, we almost never got them :/

      • kelli on December 29, 2010 at 10:02 pm

Yeah that makes sense because they are popular! I should just invest in some I love leggings and they looks so comfy 🙂 thanks!

I got the wunder crops for Christmas…but they were way too small. Apparently the husb thought I was a size 2. I exchanged them today and am looking forward to a run in them tomorrow!

  11. Kate @ Spoonful of Vigor on December 29, 2010 at 10:07 pm

I’ve been wanting to get some wunder unders for awhile now. Have you ever tried the yogi dance pants? They’re on sale online now and they seem similar to the wunder unders but they have a cute little ruffle along the calf. Hmmm, decisions decisions 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 29, 2010 at 10:14 pm

the yogi dance pants are SUPER cute and cut almost exactly like the wunder unders

  12. Amanda on December 29, 2010 at 10:10 pm

I (FINALLY!) got the wunder under crops for Christmas. Love them! So much. But I also got the Live Simply leggings which are even thicker. A-mazing. I’ve worn them pretty much ever since (yes, including right now).

  13. Carla on December 29, 2010 at 10:22 pm

Just got a new pair of wonder under crops today ( i cant resist buying all the fun waist bands when they come out)!!!! LOVE THEM so much! I also bought the Run:Resolution Pullover since its getting a little chilly here in AZ finally and i can not believe how cozy this top is!!!!!!!! but i agree with you…wunder unders are a MUST have 😉

that tamale sounds so good. and sweet potatos are my favs too. I like to mandoline slice them super thin then throw them in the excalibur with a little raw sugar and cinnamon….pure perfection <3

  14. Courtney (greeneyedrunner) on December 29, 2010 at 10:43 pm

    New scuba hoodie! SO warm!

And I just got reversible wunder crops and refuse to take them off. They’re so comfy! I decided that the Nike running crops I’m obsessed with needed a break…

  15. Conni on December 29, 2010 at 10:43 pm

I’m totally making home made garlic naan and channa masala tomorrow and I googled(apparently that’s a verb now)and it’s called a head of romaine. I’ve always referred to it as a “thing of romaine” and will continue to refer to it a such. “head of romaine” just doesn’t sound right.

    • Fitnessista on December 29, 2010 at 10:59 pm

hahah it totally doesn’t sound right. thing or stalk sounds better 🙂

  16. Donna Porter on December 29, 2010 at 10:57 pm

One day I’ll lose 20 pounds and buy a pair..or maybe win a pair 🙂 lol My favorite are hoodies! I’m an online student at Kansas State (Dietetics) so I sport a K-State Wildcat hoodie 🙂

I love scarves and my black pea coat! Oooo and boots!!! 🙂

And I’ve recently fallen in love with jeggings. 🙂

  20. Ashley on December 29, 2010 at 11:10 pm

I love your shoes I call them sweater booties. My favorite clothing though for the cold is some thigh high socks under my jeggings.

  21. Rochel on December 29, 2010 at 11:11 pm

My winter trick is to wear a pair of bike shorts over tights when I’m wearing a skirt or dress. Also, some kind of scarf or hat that covers my ears.

  22. Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa on December 29, 2010 at 11:21 pm

I’m with you on the rain! I live in LA and it was icky all day (I bet your getting our rain). It does, however, allow me to wear J Crew warm pullovers!

  23. Maryann on December 29, 2010 at 11:24 pm

Uggs! Especially my tall ones…they are so warm and cozy!

  24. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on December 29, 2010 at 11:29 pm

Wonder Unders…I still dont have any and I love that you asked this question b/c it’s chilly, rainy, windy and AWFUL here! I think the storm in SoCal is blowing its way across the desert and is hitting you guys now too. It’s nasty and freezing out! I need new outdoor bottoms/pants, too! I have tons of shirts but no pants that I adore.

    Stay warm, Gina! 🙂

  25. Molly on December 29, 2010 at 11:48 pm

  26. Emily on December 29, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I adore the wunderunders…many times I wear my lulu winter running tights even when I’m lounging (since I live in wicked cold Boston).

  35. Tina on December 30, 2010 at 9:44 am

Wonder Unders is a far better name than leggings, which is what I have been calling. Cute VS slippers!

  36. Stephanie on December 30, 2010 at 10:19 am

SO excited for the tamale how-to post!!!!!

  37. Heather (Heather's Dish) on December 30, 2010 at 10:26 am

i’m a big fan of tights too…and soft scarves!!!

  38. Jenna@frombostonwithlove on December 30, 2010 at 10:39 am

I love “sweater weather” when it is just chilly enough to need a sweater but warm enough not to warm a coat.

My cold weather standbys are wraps & pashminas in lots of different patterns and colors. They are really warm, can be worn a bunch of ways, and always add a little something something to an outfit.

  39. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on December 30, 2010 at 11:46 am

I went to Saravanna Bhavan for dosas last night! So I was celebrating IFW big time. I had a glorious, glorious afterburn from the spicy veggies, too. 🙂 And then after a b’way show I got some very good news in the mail, which I see you caught wind of, thank you ma’am. So I’m a happy camper.

I bought a jacket from lulu a couple weeks ago which I think is a Stride(?) jacket – it has a special frilly lulu detail on the front and is adorable – but anyway, that has become my fave cold weather piece of clothing because it’s so slim fitting that it acts as a liner to my winter jacket. Totally toasty! But I’m thinking I need some wunder unders as well so the bottom half is covered too. Just need to arrange my R&D team discount. 😉

i am SO excited for you!

Cute slippers! And the vegan tamale sounds wonderful. My fave winter clothing pieces are stylish turtlenecks and super thick comfy socks.

  42. Tayla on December 30, 2010 at 5:51 pm

    Hi Gina!
I have a question for you. My friend who is in Lancaster makes goats milk soap on her farm, has the lovelist scents made with essential oils and all natural. Well, I wanted to send you some for free, and if you liked them would you consider promoting them on your blog and I could sell them to you, or just give you the ordering info. to post on your blog? I don’t know if you even do that sort of thing, but thought it was worth a try 🙂 They would be $4 a bar.
No worries at all if not! Happy New Year to you and your family. Even if you are not interested, I still want to send you some soap if you would like?

    • Fitnessista on December 30, 2010 at 9:02 pm

      hey girl,
i can’t do product reviews anymore, but if you’d send me the link to her site i’d love to order some!
      thanks!
