Hi, Fries

Hellooooo 😀 How are you? Hope your weekend is off to a fabulous start! Thank you for your beautiful comments and emails about the Pilot coming home semi-soonish. I’m just thrilled that there’s a light peeking out at the end of the tunnel 🙂

So, I spent my Friday evening with amazing friends 😀

*Note: All photos in this post were taken via iPhone. It did a pretty snazzy job 😉

After dance, Michele and I hit up Monkey Burger. It was her first time, and she was excited since I had majorly hyped it up- it’s probably one of my favorite places. Super fresh delicious food, veggie options, and sweet potato waffle fries. All you need in life, right there 😉

I got my favorite salad with goat cheese, greens, balsamic, sundried tomatoes and veg:

Beast domination occurred.

Michele had a turkey burger:

(she asked if I wanted to take a picture of it because it so sizeable)

and we each enjoyed a side of sweet potato waffle fries:

The fries dreams are made of 😉

It makes me sad because after the guys get back, Michele is going back to Valdosta because she and her Pilot are stationed there longer than we are. (We’re moving after the Pilot gets back, after a short limbo phase in Valdosta.) My best friend Jeni is still in V-town for a while longer, too. I guess we’ll have to make lots of east coast vacations 😉 The good news is that I’ll be on that side of the world next weekend- so excited to visit 😀

After dinner, I went to the madres to see the fam, and then met up with some friends at Yogurt Delight for dessert.

Froyo is a rare occurrence for me, since cow’s dairy isn’t my buddy, but it was uhhhhmazing. I got the peanut butter and chocolate cookie dough flavors with chocolate chips and it was 100% worth the achy stomach. When places start offering goat’s milk ice cream and froyo, I’m going to be ALL over that.

Well friends, I’m off to teach and early bootcamp class! Have a great day and I’ll see ya this afternoon <3

xoxo

Gina

It’s hard when your friends are scattered all over the place – makes for fun mini vacations though 🙂

I love the photos! Like I said, iPhone 4 makes great photos 9wow I sound like a spammer :p) I considered buying an expensive camera but decided to go for a Vitamix first since imo the quality of my photos is good enough right now.

    happy weekend!

I use to love froyo, but haven’t had it since I stopped consuming dairy about 2 years ago. Luckily NYC has a few places to get vegan softserve so I definitely take advantage of that any time I am in the city. It is SO delicious! I have seen goat’s milk ice cream sold in pints at whole foods, the brand is called LaLoo’s, have you tried it?

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 1:25 pm

yes and i loooove it 🙂

  6. Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) on January 22, 2011 at 10:38 am

Haha btw I checked out that Food Network Humor sight and got in a good laugh looking at all of the foodgasm faces 🙂

  9. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on January 22, 2011 at 10:40 am

I sooo wish we had froyo places around here. It’s probably better that we don’t!

  10. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on January 22, 2011 at 10:40 am

I now have a serious hankering for some frozen yogurt. I don’t care its only 10:30 in the morning.

  11. Kristin on January 22, 2011 at 10:40 am

If you make it up to phoenix before you leave there is a frozen yogurt place “Chill” that serves soy and I think almond milk ice creams which are amazing!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 1:22 pm

      ALMOND MILK!!!! yeahhhhhhh!

  12. Fallon on January 22, 2011 at 10:43 am

You should open up your own frozen yogurt place made with goats milk and almond milk. 😉

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 1:21 pm

i’ll add it to the list 😉

  13. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on January 22, 2011 at 10:59 am

Gina! Your frown is totally turning upside down (as evidenced by the smiley and winky faces scattered throughout this post) – I love it! So happy things are looking up for you, and your positive attitude is so motivating (so I’m happy for me, too. haha).

  14. Kara on January 22, 2011 at 11:09 am

I never used to pay much attention to what you ate on your blog, but now that I have a baby who is allergic to cow’s milk protein, I pay so much more attention. Have you actually been diagnosed (not lactose intolerant, actually allergic to the protein)? Does goat’s milk ever both you if you have too much? I’m just curious because she’ll be in a year old in June and she’ll start eating more “people food” and I’m making mental lists of good cow’s milk substitutes. Maybe an idea for your next reader’s request post? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 1:21 pm

goat’s dairy never bothers me- it’s weird. i prefer to stay away from cow’s dairy for health reasons, not allergy reasons. it hurts my stomach and makes my face break out

      • Kara on January 22, 2011 at 1:50 pm

Huh, I guess when you said that you get a stomachache that you must be allergic (or lactose intolerant) since that’s basically my baby’s reaction to cow’s milk (that and bloody poop). Have you ever drank straight goat’s milk? They sell it at the local health food store here (from local goat farms) and I was wondering if it’s “tangy” like goat’s cheese.

        • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 2:36 pm

yeah i’m not really a huge fan of goat milk- yogurt is lovely but the milk, notsomuch

  15. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on January 22, 2011 at 11:16 am

You should write a book on Moving: How-To. 🙂 Those waffle fries do look dreamy!

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 1:20 pm

haha i’m the worst mover ever 😉 i just have to do it a lot!

  16. Lili on January 22, 2011 at 11:22 am

They have dairy free froyo! But i think its made with soy?
At a froyo place in chicago i know they make it dairy AND soy free. It tastes.. as you would say.. amazeballs 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 1:20 pm

  18. alicia on January 22, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I tried to get my husband to get my some froyo last night! I had a few choco/pnut/oatmeal balls instead. Yours looks delish! The perfect flavors. Sorry about the tummy ache.

  19. SaraRM on January 22, 2011 at 12:14 pm

  21. Maryann on January 22, 2011 at 12:57 pm

I am obsesssed with froyo! It doesn’t always make me feel the best either though, so I save it for special occasions, or just mean cravings 🙂

  22. Allison @ Food For Healing on January 22, 2011 at 12:58 pm

froyo looks so good, dairy isn’t my best friend either, but i would totally try that!

  23. lindsay on January 22, 2011 at 1:10 pm

I totally use Lactaid for froyo dates too! Sometimes you just gotta 🙂 And Gina, I am with you on wanting a dang goat’s milk froyo place to open up. One in your city and one in mine would be magical!

  24. kt on January 22, 2011 at 1:11 pm

I bet you are so grateful to live near family (and sweet potato waffle fries and froyo) during the Pilot’s deployment!

  25. Ashley @ the fit academic on January 22, 2011 at 1:48 pm

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 2:40 pm

      yes- DELISH

  26. Ann on January 22, 2011 at 1:48 pm

    Hi Gena,
Something I wanted to ask. I feel alot of the blog world is afeared of fat.
I generally like to have (for one meal) 2 whole eggs + 1/2 large avocado + side of veggies (1+cup). Is this bizarre or queasy to you? Do you think it is unreasonable? Also, how many calories is your detox thing going to be?

And do you have a personal opinion on how much is a healthy weight gain for a person per week? And is it reasonable for said person to mainly rest, eat, and just short walk or gentle yoga and no other activity during that time (even if that means for up to a year or more?).

    • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 2:40 pm

      hey girl,
that sounds like a delicious meal! i wouldn’t do the yolks every day for cholesterol reasons, but fat-wise i think it’s fine if that’s what’s working for you
1-2 lbs is a healthy weight gain per week

      • Ann on January 22, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Hi gena, thanks for that. Can’t promise I won’t do 2 yolks/day though! I’ve been seeing stuff more about all this ‘real food” and the whole cholesterol thing I don’t think is an issue really.
But, in terms of the weight gain…so 1-2 lbs is healthy even for a sedentary person?

        • Fitnessista on January 22, 2011 at 10:21 pm

yeah- gaining weight is the goal, right??

  27. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table on January 22, 2011 at 1:55 pm

oh yum – waffle fries are my absolute favorite. don’t you miss chick-fil-a?! 🙂

  28. Maggie on January 22, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Great post! Lots of eye candy!

  29. Katie on January 22, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Froyo is def worth the bellyache ; ) I love those sweet potato fries! I heard they have them at chikfila now! I dont think I spelled that right but you know what I mean ; ) I think they have the waffle ones too, so I have to go and see and if the rumor is true ; )

  30. Mandy (theamazonprincess) on January 22, 2011 at 2:15 pm

haha I can imagine your face if they made goats milk ice cream or froyo! Holy cow! But agreed, it’s worth the stomach-ache every once in a while. 😀

  31. Krista @ Journey to a Healthy Berg on January 22, 2011 at 2:32 pm

that stinks that you can’t enjoy Froyo without getting a stomach ache, but I’m glad it was worth it 🙂

  32. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 22, 2011 at 2:43 pm

sweet potato waffle fries = yeah, I’d love to have some too!

and the froyo…well, at least you know going in your tummy isn’t going to love you…but it sure tastes good going down, right!? 🙂

    Enjoy your day, Gina!!

Sometimes I miss ice cream…but when I eat it my skin FREAKS out at me 😐 I have been satisfying my ice cream nudges with coconut ice cream – DIVINE 🙂

I used to love the peanut butter chocolate ice cream from baskin robins when I was little. YUM!

It’s so hard when friends and family live so far away. I can relate because a lot of my friends go to school in different provinces. 🙁

Those sweet potato waffle fries look ahhhmazing!

  39. Teresa@vivaciousrunninggirl.com on January 23, 2011 at 10:35 am

I used to have an umbrella cuckatoo growing up. I eventually want to get another one…they are soooo loving!
