Hopped off the plane at LAX

(“With a dream and my cardigan…..” Thanks to the Pilot, I have a Miley Cyrus song stuck in my head)

Hi friends! We just landed in LA 🙂

 us

Thank you so much for your sweet comments about the trip and tips for places to hit up while we’re here. We’re super excited and are very stoked to share the shenanigans with you.

Per usual, we were slackers and waited to pack until this morning.

 clothes

The good news is that I found a dress last night! My aunt sells designer clothes and vintage on eBay, so I went shopping in her closet last night 😉

This morning, we overslept, each munched an egg burrito with salsa,

I grabbed a b-fast cookie for the plane ride, and we headed to the airport.

When we got there, we had a fun little conversation about this thing:

escalator

I think I may have mentioned it on the blog before, but I HATE escalators. I’m totally fine going down, but going up scares the bejeezus out of me. It all started when I was 7 and went up the FAO Schwartz escalator in Las Vegas by myself.. ever since then, I haven’t been a fan.

We were trying to go up to ticketing to get our boarding passes and here’s how the convo went down:

Me: Let’s go this way. (Walking toward elevator)

Pilot: Why don’t we take the escalator?

Me: Let’s take the elevator, I don’t trust that thing.. it’s broken.

Pilot: It’s not broken, just not moving. We can carry our suitcases up.

Me: No. It could start moving at anytime! I don’t trust it when it’s… sedentary.

Pilot: You mean when it’s stairs????

We ended up taking the elevator 🙂

Anyone else have a random phobia??

Thank goodness, the plane ride was uneventful and bump free,

plane

and I enjoyed my b-fast cookie, a SELF magazine and a coconut water picked up at the airport. It definitely helped to keep me from feeling dehydrated.

We just landed and are about to catch a cab to the hotel 😀 See ya later with some adventures!

xoxo

I totally know what you mean about the escalators!! I’m extremely scared of heights/falling so I always take the elevator or stairs instead of the escalators in airports and metros. With escalators, I’m okay going up them if I have to, but going down them is another story..I’m always scared I’ll fall all the way down them when I try to get on.:-P

    Have a great trip!

I freak out about escalators too! One ate the bottom of my pants when I was 5 and trick-or-treating at the mall. It was the stuff of nightmares.

aw I love that song!! hehe I absolutely hate the long ones. There’s one at the marta stop in Buckhead that’s 3 stories from underground. I have to sit down sometimes!

I’m not a fan of escalators either. When I was a kid, my necklace got caught on the railing of an escalator. I don’t really remember anything else besides being scared out of my mind and losing the necklace when it finally snapped.

I also have a fear of walking on the side of the road! I feel like a car could just go over the curb and hit me so I usually make the person I’m with walk on the outside 🙂

I hate to tell you this, but my random phobia is of dogs. I still love them, but when around a dog I don’t know, I have an irrational fear the dog will attack me. (I once ran like a maniac away from a ownerless dog about half Bella’s size! My friends who witnessed this laughed and laughed at me).

When I am around friends’ dogs, I love them and interact and I actually want to get a puppy of my own one day.

I know why I have this phobia- when I was two years old, my stepfather’s Doberman bit me in the face. I wasn’t playing nice and he snapped- I’m told, since I don’t remember the incident. The fear persists though! Yesterday, I walked way out of my way, by a lot, to avoid a dog who was running around a park without a leash or an owner in sight.

i totally hear ya- i was bit by a german shepherd in the face when i was little and now am horrified of that breed

I’ve hated escalators ever since I was 5 and my jacket got caught in one! You’re not alone in your phobia. 😉

It takes me about 10 minutes to get on an escalator. I keep putting my foot out to get on and then I freak out (especially going down). I have no idea where this fear comes from. My hubby finds this humorous until there are 20 people behind me. When there’s a choice – I always take the stairs. You are not alone!

Have a blast girl! I hope you guys enjoy the amazing night ahead! So excited to see a recap!!!

Oh my god, I am with you here–I am TERRIFIED of walking down escalators when they’re not moving, because they’re slippery and I don’t trust myself not to fall, especially in heels. I have to take a giant metro escalator to my internship twice a week–seriously, it’s the biggest escalator I’ve ever seen. The first time it broke down and I had to walk down the whole way I was shaking and almost crying. It happened again today and I was more mentally prepared, but I still was clinging to the handrail and walking at a snails pace, putting both feet on each step. I probably looked insane, but I don’t care–whatever it takes not to fall!

Haha, the BF and I always joke that that’s our song since when we first got together, it was ALWAYS on everywhere we went. Now whenever we hear it we belt it out – which can make for some very weird looks… As for a phobia, it’s not super random… But I’m embarrassingly scared of dogs. Unless they’re cute and fluffy then I am liable to scream when one comes near me. Not super logical… But you can’t change how you feel!

  11. Ilana on April 12, 2011 at 7:49 pm

glad you found a dress! aunts with shoppable closets are the best.
my random “phobia” is really weird and I get made fun of for it a lot – you know those plastic milk jugs? I can’t touch them. They skeeve me out soooooo much, like nails on a chalkboard. Ick. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl.

ps-I bought the Lulu Aura hoodie after reading how much you like it – I wear it pretty much every day. So worth it.

LA is so fun…super excited for you guys! And that dress looks beautiful…can’t wait to see more pics! Have fun!

  13. Heather on April 12, 2011 at 7:59 pm

That is so funny because I actually hate elevators and take the escalator if I can. It all started when I had a class under the stadium at UF. The elevator to get to the class would shake like crazy and the inspection notice in it had expired. I also don’t like feeling trapped in a small space. 🙂

  14. Ida on April 12, 2011 at 8:11 pm

Miley!! I used to be terrified of escalators as a kid, but they dont bother me any more.

  15. Emma on April 12, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Hi sweetie! I included you in my latest post because you’ve brought a smile to my face every day for at least the last year! Thankyou!

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2011 at 9:26 pm

      you’re a sweetheart- thank you!

  16. Kathy on April 12, 2011 at 8:28 pm

“You mean when it’s *stairs*???” Made me laugh so hard. Too funny. I have no height or stair fears (moving or stationary) – just spiders. Any spiders, any size. Makes me anxious just to type the word!

Thanks for the laugh at the end of a long day. Have fun!!

My first job out of college sent us to a 2 week training in LA each year…I love, love, love LA! Have a great trip!

I used to have an escalator phobia too! My worry was that I’d somehow manage to step on one of the split parts (where it becomes a step) and fall over, or down, or up, or whatever. I also used to hate staircases that have no “back” – you know the kind that you can see through? I had some irrational fear that I’d fall through one of the gaps.

I’m so glad you found a dress, and that is so cool that your aunt sells designer clothes and vintage! I hope you guys have a lovely night!

  19. Stephanie @cookinfanatic on April 12, 2011 at 9:02 pm

that is so funny that you are scared of escalators and not elevators?! i dont like elevators at all ever since at my old workplace ours got stuck alllll the time and people were always getting trapped in there, it was like the office joke (20 stories high anyone?)… ummm not funny!!

  20. Laura on April 12, 2011 at 9:30 pm

Totally weird phobia- Frisbees. When I was about nine, I was with a group of friends playing, and the guy with the frisbee had his back to me and didn’t realize I was only about five feet away from him. He turned and threw it at me full-force and hit me in the throat. Twenty years later and I still run away when I see folks playing at the park!

Glad you arrived safely! Now won’t you just stop in Santa Cruz all ready 🙂

Hey, Gina…Ummm…I don’t want to bug you, but I was wondering where you posted the name of the dehydrator giveaway winner? Or are you picking names next Monday? Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2011 at 12:56 am

i haven’t posted it yet, but the winner has been emailed!

      • Sierra on April 13, 2011 at 2:01 am

Looks like you’re having a ball. Its ages isnce I had coconut water!

  24. shannonmarie on April 13, 2011 at 8:10 am

    Love the dress choice. Gorgeous!

I can totally understand the escalator phobia (although they don’t bother me; my friends and I used to run up the down escalators when I was younger). My sister is afraid of them, too. She fell backwards down them, not once, but twice as a child.

  25. Stepf on April 13, 2011 at 9:09 am

Ha! I’m not afraid of escalators, but this calm and peaceful yogini becomes ENRAGED when I am forced to stand on them. I absolutely detest standing still on escalators. I make a point to walk on them (and ask people to move to the right) everywhere I go.
Sam laughs at me when, in airports or elsewhere, I am stuck on them.

  26. Julie S. on April 13, 2011 at 11:13 am

Too funny about the escalator phobia! I don’t like them either, but my issue is going down, not up. 🙂 It takes me a good 5 – 10 seconds to get my nerve up to step on. I stand there like a fool w/ my foot out trying to time it just right so I’m not stepping in the middle of a crack that will eventually break into 2 separate steps & send me falling to my death. Ridiculous! 🙂 My issue w/ escalators also started when I was a kid, but I don’t recall ever having a traumatic experience. I don’t avoid them – just cause a slight delay at the top sometimes! 🙂

  27. Sarah on April 13, 2011 at 11:41 am

I also hate escalators. I’m always scared I’m gonna get something stuck in it. I always do a little hop to get on and off. 🙂

  28. LauraJayne on April 13, 2011 at 11:58 am

While I’m not afraid of escalators per se, I always have flash-backs to a Rescue 911 episode (remember that show) where a little boy got his windbreaker cord stuck in the escalator and it practically mechanically sucked his body in too! I don’t think I’ll ever get that mental picture out of my head!

Random and totally irrational fear? Marbles. I think it has a little to do with the movie One Fine Day and the fact that one of my jobs has me around adventurous children who are likely to get a marble stuck in their noses too. I found out that one of my students collected marbles and almost had a nervous breakdown. I’m sure she thinks I’m the strangest teacher ever now…
