I ate oat bran

and I liked it 😀

Hey everyone! How’s your Monday going?? Mine has been helter skelter, but you gotta do what you gotta do 😉

Last night before going up to bed, my sweet tooth came a-knockin’.

I squashed him with 1/2 nanner, almond butter and vegan chocolate chips:

nannerabchoc

And a Comfy Carob drink

comfydrink

We went up to bed but no sleeping was to be had. I was worried sick about Bella and set my alarm for every two hours to make sure she was ok. She got sick once throughout the night, so first thing this morning I called the vet and made an appt.

Before leaving for the vet, I was craving something warm and autumn-y in my belly.

pumpkinbran

Pumpkin oat bran! I can’t believe I haven’t had oat bran in so long. I missed it so!

This combo had:

-1 cup almond milk

-1/2 cup organic pure pumpkin

-1/2 smashed nanner

-pumpkin pie spice

-Stevia

-pinch sea salt

-vanilla extrat

-1 TB almond butter

-foodgasms

It was sooooo good and comforting, especially after a doozy of a night.

Next, I poached some organic chicken to see if Belly boo would want to eat some. She still had no appetite whatsoever. Viesa, on the other hand, happily ate some chicken.

Vet supplies (green tea and that one book I still haven’t finished):

And we were off.

The verdict: She has a “bug” or it was caused by stress. (Maybe staying at the kennel last week on top of the pilot leaving stressed her out??) Because the vet said her stomach felt fine –she didn’t flinch or cry when he rubbed her belly- and her tests all came back negative. He gave her another anti-nausea shot (the emergency vet who did it yesterday had to poke her twice because she flinched and the real vet figured she didn’t get all the vaccine, which is why she kept getting sick last night), a probiotic/anti-inflammatory combo and antibiotics to take, along with some dog food that’s supposed to taste good to sick puppers.

vetgoodies

She’s a little worn out and the anti-nausea shot made her more tired, so she’s been chilling in her kennel with her snowman.

Snack was a persimmon:

These little guys are awesome! They taste like a peach-apple to me

And lunch was a little salad beast:

And eggplant lasagna….

eggplantlas

(I’ll post the recipe later this afternoon)

So delish 😀

eggplantlonchi

Well I’m off to Targizzle for hangers and other supplies for my massive re-organization project, then making a Zumba CD, pilates then Zumba 😀

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

G

Today’s tip: In order to save some dollas, prevent wasting food and get more creative with your meals, buy ingredients that you’ll use more than once during the week if 1 serving is too much. For example, 1 bell pepper will usually last me two salads, 1 cucumber lasts for 2 salads, and if I have to buy a new ingredient for a meal (like salmon), I’ll freeze half and find a recipe using that ingredient to make later on. For example, I cut the lunch eggplant is half and am using the rest for another meal later this week. It’s a great trick (especially if you live on your own) to keep things fun and lower cost.

Glad Bella is getting better, so sad that animals get stressed like us sometimes.

Aww little Bella is so adorable. Sending nothing but good vibes her way! Viesa is a cutie pie, too 😉

I’m on a mission to try your comfy carob drink! That sounds/looks awesome!

I haven’t had pumpkin oats yet this year! I need to pull some out with my Frankenstein mug this week. And I’m on a mission to try a persimmon!

    Have a lovely day, Gina!

I’m even a bit more boring with reusing veggies etc; while I cut up one half for today’s salad, I cut up the other half too, for tomorrow’s salad. Coz I’m lazy like that! 🙂

I hope Bella will be ok soon!

  7. jessica on October 26, 2009 at 1:39 pm

So THAT’s what a persimmon is! At the grocery store last week I was intrigued by them.. I tried to sneakily smell one but it didn’t really smell like anything.

Glad Bella is feeling better!! 🙂

  8. VeggieGirl on October 26, 2009 at 1:40 pm

So glad you enjoyed the COOKED oat bran, my friend! 😉

    Hope Bella eats up soon!

  9. Brenna on October 26, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Poor Bella! I can’t take my pup to the kennel anymore- he gets soooooo sick from anxiety. It’s tough sometimes to find housesitters but I just worry about him too much otherwise! I hope she’s feeling better soon! I hope you have a chance to finish TTW- the ending is wonderful. I’m reading the author’s second book right now and it’s equally enjoyable!

  12. rhodeygirl on October 26, 2009 at 1:47 pm

great tip today! I do the same thing (for example I used 1/2 zucchini in a pot of veggie soup and the other half for a whole wheat zucchini & tomato calzone.

I hope Bella feels better asap!

  13. The Voracious Vegan on October 26, 2009 at 1:56 pm

POOR BELLA! I’m glad the vet said there isn’t anything seriously wrong with her. You are so much like me setting your alarm every 2 hours to check on them! I have been known to do that a time or two…or three. She is lucky to have you. I’m glad she is on the mend and resting up.

I love that you put choc chips on top of your nut butter banana, I do that too! It is such a great way to satisfy my near constant chocolate craving!

Ohhhh….how I miss Target. When I lived in the states during university it was my number one favorite place to go. Everything they have is so cute! My dad was actually in the US on vacation over this past month and whenever he asked if I wanted him to bring me back anything I would answer: “Anything cute from Target!” Although I don’t think he ever really understood what I meant by cute…

Fitnessista! I have been reading your blog for a little while now and LOVE it! My fiancée even knows who you are because I am always like,“Fitnessista says this” and “Fitnessista made this”…haha!

When I found out you were from AZ, I got even more excited because I live in Phoenix – woo hoo! About eight years ago I lost 20 lbs and have pretty much maintained since then Unfortunately, with that weight loss came some unhealthy eating habits and I did not have a good relationship with food…or my self-image for that matter. About 6 mos. ago I made a promise to myself that I would begin to eat healthy, natural foods whenever possible. Thanks to the advice you post on your blog, and your many yummy recipes, I have been able to do that. I feel better, look better and have learned to not worry about what or when I eat because I know it is full of nutritional value. Of course, I still have splurge moments, but now they are controlled and I rarely crave them. I just wanted to let you know how important your blog is… I know I will continue to read it for future ideas.

I can’t wait to see your eggplant lasagna recipe! And today is the one day this week that I think we HAVEN’T gone to Target. Put out the APB!

Glad to hear that Bella has a bug and not something more serious. Poor girl..she looks worn out in the picture.

I just started reading that same book….do you like it? It’s ok for me so far.

  20. Shelby on October 26, 2009 at 2:37 pm

    Hope Bella feels better!

And that comfy carob drink looks so good! Perfect for chilly nights. I shall make some.

  23. kristi (sweet cheeks) on October 26, 2009 at 3:00 pm

mmmm, isn’t oatbran just the best? Perfect for fall and winter weather! 😀

Good to hear that everything will be just fine with your pup. I know how hard it is to watch your pet be sick!!

  24. Ashley on October 26, 2009 at 3:02 pm

I will pay out of the yazoo for a house sitter before sending my dogs to a kennel. There are SO many bugs floating around those places. Very unhealthy and stressful environment for dogs!

Kennels don’t disinfect NEARLY as well as they should. I hope Bella is UTD on her Bordatella shot too. That’s another super common kennel ailment!

    Hope your doggy feels better!

(Can you tell I’m a bit dog lover? Haha)

  25. Lyndsey on October 26, 2009 at 3:40 pm

I hope Bella gets better soon! My bichon (Bayley) had the same thing about a month ago, we went to the vet, they couldnt find anything so he took lots of medicines and ate ID pet food. Finally after a few days, the sickness worked its way out. I was up with him all night every night though for most of the week. I hope she makes a turn for the better soon!

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2009 at 3:49 pm

that’s good to know- they gave me the ID food, too so i’m hoping it will work its magic and give this little thing an appetite

  26. Nicole on October 26, 2009 at 4:54 pm

So sorry about your puppy = ( that is sad! Hopefully she’ll feel better. Also… how soft was that persimmon? It doesn’t look very soft …. it should taste like a pudding almost. I love persimmons so much. They are really great to make banana persimmon cardamom ice cream and raw food desserts… but I am not sure if it tastes like a peach/apple. The skin should almost break when you touch it. Let me know what you find out. Enjoy your night = )

  27. ceit on October 26, 2009 at 5:03 pm

love your food posts they make me hungry..haha i was wondering what brand of vegan choclate chips do use. thanks hope bella feels better soon!

  28. Taylor on October 26, 2009 at 5:21 pm

Bella is precious! I hope she gets to feeling better! I have a Bella too, a Maltese. Just a little tip, we give her Angel’s Eyes, a powder supplement you sprinkle on her food, and it COMPLETELY eliminates the ‘tear stains’. I was skeptical, but after 1 month of use, she hasn’t had tear stains in 2 years!!

  29. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on October 26, 2009 at 5:33 pm

How are you liking The Time Traveler’s Wife? I loved it, although I didn’t think the movie compared at all..

That oat bran looks delish- I just tried making pumpkin oats for the first time yesterday! So worth it.

  30. K on October 26, 2009 at 5:38 pm

I love the foodgasm ingredient 😉

Poor, Bella! I hope this bug passes soon!!

  31. Kailey (SnackFace) on October 26, 2009 at 5:45 pm

I looooove The Time Traveler’s Wife! Definitely one of my favorite books…and I agree with Joelle, the movie doesn’t do it justice at all. I hope you enjoy the book!

  33. Lauren on October 26, 2009 at 6:38 pm

Persimmons grow everywhere in Korea, where I am living right now…I can buy them on every street corner out of these Huge trucks that are overflowing with them. A big bowl of them for $3, it’s a pretty good and yummy deal.

  35. Jenna on October 26, 2009 at 7:42 pm

persimmon! never heard of it but looks good!
