Iced

Look! Ice cubes in my coffee:

Coffee 2

Thank you for all of the amazing iced coffee suggestions! I can’t wait to try Pioneer Woman’s recipe and make some coffee or almond milk ice cubes, too. For this morning, I just made the coffee and put it in the freezer to let it chill

Coffee 3

while I fed Liv, made breakfast

Oats 2

and got ready for work.

Snacks 2

(Chicken taco mix and rice in a snowman bowl, tortillas, hot sauce and a Larabar for this morning)

I LOVE that so many of you are following the Shape Up this year and have been checking in! Today is an active rest day, which just means (to me) to avoid doing anything too crazy outside of your normal routine. For example, if you have a pretty active lifestyle, there’s no need to spend it laying in bed (unless you really feel like it)- just go about the day per usual without a formal workout in there. Some gentle yoga or stretching is always a good idea, and taking the pup for a walk.

(Bella = queen of interval training. Sprint around the house, take a nap, lather, rinse, repeat)

Thank you to those of you who have been tweeting me pics this week, too! I can’t wait to post some of them tomorrow. Tomorrow is also the last day of my blogiversary giveaway– don’t forget to enter if you haven’t already!

Hope you have an amazing day <3

See ya later on the Fashion page.

xoxo

Gina

I have to say on my rest day I’m pretty lazy! I do clean the house and prep meals for the rest of the week but other than that I spend the day catching up on tv shows and lounging around with the husband.

I like to get some walking in on rest days, and maybe I’ll throw in some yoga! You can never have too much yoga 🙂

For active rest I walked for 30 minutes on the treadmill. I watched my favorite food network shows and the time passed so quickly! Looking forward to a good workout tomorrow 🙂

Maybe this is a silly question but what is the Bedtime Ab burner? Is it meant to be done before bed after a morning workout? I am excited to try it!

I did Workout 1 with a lapsed gym friend yesterday – we skipped the cardio but did 3 rounds and were schweaty! 😀 Today I did a group class (essentially group PT as it’s a smallish group) and we did ALL kettle bells! It was amazing but will definately take it easy over the weekend, and won’t climb a mountain like my girlfriend usually wants to do!!!! So active recovery will just be a walk on the beach or something similar (hopefully with her pup in tow!)

BTW thanks for being so generous and sharing your workouts! 🙂

Am I the only one who thought….GINA GOT SMIRNOFF ICED!!?!?!

Was hoping to see you down on one knee chugging a smirnoff. 😉

Love the pictures of Bella. My maltipoo is on a mini vacation with my parents since I moved across the country so it’s great to see pictures that remind me of her 🙂

I go window shopping for active rest. It’s so hot here in Vegas right now that walking around a mall is a great multitasking activity for me. Haha 🙂

So what’s the verdict on your new laptop? Have it all figured out yet? Like it?

I just noticed the pink keyboard in the background there.

I switched it up due to my work schedule and did Workout One and some HIIT on the treadmill this afternoon. I was soo sweaty by the time I hopped on the treadmill. Workout 1 is no joke…those push ups & planks will get you! I feel so good! Looking forward to next week!!

In the spirit of the Summer Shape Up and Sweet Tooth Sweet Life’s Yoga Challenge, I did a 40 min yoga dvd today! Felt great!

My active rest consisted of walking around the mall and Costco for an hour. I also played soccer with my boy and had lots of fun!

My workout schedule has been kind of goofy this week due to feeling sick on Wednesday. However, got a nice 3 mile run in today and making some healthy snacks such as amazeballs 🙂 Going to yoga tomorrow morning and looking forward to it! 🙂

I have to say I didn’t take today off but really only because I’ve only just really begun trying to lose weight again. However I can’t do any cardio because of my bad knees and I have no equipment so I really want to focus on strength training and hopefully that will help me lose weight even without doing much cardio. What’s your take on this?

    • Fitnessista on June 14, 2012 at 9:54 pm

healthy eating alone is going to make a huge difference- everything else is just a bonus, and of course, good for your health (heart health with cardio, muscle density with strength)

I usually just walk to/from classes on campus as usual on my active rest days. I always like to get at least a little movement in!

I just want to say thank you for posting the summer shape up workouts. I had to leave for work this week before you posted workout #1, so I am doing week 2 from last summer. I must say, I appreciate that your workouts are designed to be fast and efficient, hitting all muscle groups. I am able to get foam rolling, weights, HIIT, and final stretching in just about an hour (give or take 5 min depending on how much I stretch). I used to spend 1.5-2 hrs at the gym, and I MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer it this way 🙂 Thanks again!!!!

    • Fitnessista on June 14, 2012 at 9:54 pm

i’m glad you’re enjoying it! and yes, i like my workouts fast, furious and hitting all the right spots 🙂

  15. Jenn on June 14, 2012 at 9:43 pm

i love your purple keyboard protector 🙂 those things feel so fun i think. did my steady state today! (swapped days with yesterday since i had evening plans) good stuff 🙂

I took a rest day on Wednesday and rocked Tabata in a park with some girlfriends last night. Today, it’s week one circuit with HIIT and possibly some free Yoga on the beach. I love summer!

    • Fitnessista on June 15, 2012 at 11:52 am

awesome! i love summer, too 🙂

    Hi Gina,

I’m wondering – is there a beginner’s way to do the plank toe touches? I’m getting everything else, but when it comes to this I find myself falling all over the place!

    Thanks!

    Meg

    • Fitnessista on June 15, 2012 at 11:49 am

try doing it with bent knees instead of straight for a while- see if you can touch your knee instead. when you’re a pro at that, try the straighter legs

      • Meaghen on June 17, 2012 at 9:22 pm

        Thanks Gina!

I like this iced coffee. I use to drink coffee in my break time. It’s my one way of refreshing my mind getting rid the stressful thoughts. Indeed, it’s effective.
