If you see my brain

You guys. I guess my brain only has limited space right now -it’s even worse since I birthed it two years ago- because I had not one, but two major fails yesterday. I got to the studio to teach my second Zumba class and couldn’t figure out why no one was there. Even my friend Megan, who was going to team-teach with me, was not there. I’m sitting in the office, look at the clock around 6:10 after 15 minutes of waiting and realize. My class is at 6:30, not 6. It’s ALWAYS been at 6:30. Better super early than super late, though.

I killed time by reading a book we had in the office about dance moves.

Lawnmower, anyone?

Lawnmower

Zumba was a blast, as usual. I felt bad because I had to tell my class I was moving, and that Megan would likely be taking over when I left. It’s definitely hard to build up a class, especially when it’s full of people you love, to tell them you’re moving. Megan taught a few songs so she could introduce herself to everyone.

Here’s the playlist we used:

Afterwards, I had plans to meet up with Katie for a margarita, and when I got to G Grill I called her to see if she’d been seated already.

“Yeah, I’m inside at the bar.”

“Ok, I’m walking in.”

“You’re at Blanco right?”

Whaaaaaaaaaat. Somehow I had it in my much brain to meet her at G Grill, so I got in the car and drove to Blanco (which was delicious as ever, BTW). Fail x 13,456, but once i got there we had a great dinner and chat together <3

Fingers crossed today is a little less scatterbrained. We basically have something going on each day before we move -including some really fun things like a show with the fam and a triple date out with some of our closest friends- but it’s definitely getting into the craziness. I’m looking forward to being unpacked, settled in, and walking to the beach with Liv 🙂

I’m off to take Liv to ride her scooter! I can’t get enough of the spring-y sunshine.

Have a wonderful day! <3

New post on the Family page!

Some fitness trends worth trying:

1. A fitness tracker. It’s provided valuable data about my workouts and has also encouraged me to be more active during the day. Bella is thankful, too, because in order to meet my step goal, I have to take her for a walk. You can check out my reviews of the Fitbit Flex and Polar Loop if you’d like to learn more.

2. HIIT. I always believed in the effectiveness of HIIT, but it wasn’t until I started to incorporate it into my weekly routine that I saw huge results. Here’s a HIIT post if you’re looking for ways to add some HIIT into your life. Just a heads up: HIIT is not intended for beginning exercises or those in recovery from an injury. Build up to 30 minutes of steady state cardio, most days of the week, before incorporating any type of interval training.

3. Functional fitness. Focus on exercises that are going to assist you in everyday movements, like the deadlift, squat, pushup, rotation, stair climbs and plank.

4. Yoga. Of course, yoga has been around for quite a while, but if you haven’t given it a try, maybe add a class (or new to you class if you practice avidly) in next week’s schedule. I have a class later today and I caaaan’t wait.

Oh man these are totally things I would do!! Except instead of being super early I’d be super late. ;p Whenever I start getting really spacey Josh points out I’m probably tired. Sleep always seems to do the trick.

I have had those days before! It just makes the next day that much sweeter!

Mommy brain hits so often these days, it’s embarrassing.

HIIT and steady planned for today–my favorite!

Yesterday I got my neighbor to watch my son and drove 30 minutes to a Dr appt……..that was actually NEXT Wednesday….. Missed an exit on the way home. Made a casserole, turned on the oven, set the timer and took my son to the playground. When I came home and opened the oven…….there was nothing in it. I had forgotten to actually put the dish in the oven. BAAAD brain day for me too!

We all have those scatterbrained days! You’re definitely not alone. I love Blanco and the goregous view!

I would love to know the science behind mommy brain. That s#*% is real! My husband will swear he told me something and I never remember him even talkin about it at all. I joke that he doesn’t tell me and then just uses my mommy brain as an excuse to get himself out of trouble. Haha

  7. Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit on March 20, 2014 at 1:37 pm

Haha, too funny. At least you were still able to make it to both events. 🙂 I love HIIT workouts so much, more bang for your buck, I think! I’m still not much of a yoga nut, but I try to dabble once in a while!

  8. Lucie@FitSwissChick on March 20, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Hahaha. I’m so relieved these things happen to others as well. Since I live in 2 cities, I travel twice anweek with the train – I can not even tell you how many times I travelled to the weong city cause I didn’t pay attention which train I took. And that’s just one of all the #fail stuff that happens to me almost daily 🙂 keeps things interesting! 🙂

I desperately need to get back into yoga. My hammies and lower back have been so sore after running, despite stretching like a crazy woman. I need some downward dog in my life!

  10. Jackie on March 20, 2014 at 2:38 pm

Days like that are the worst!

  11. Adrienne on March 20, 2014 at 3:40 pm

Were you able to find a place in Coronado walking distance to the beach?? As a former San Diego resident, I can’t imagine how difficult that may have been!

    • Fitnessista on March 20, 2014 at 4:04 pm

house hunting was a RED NIGHTMARE, so i’m very glad it’s over haha. but yes, we can walk to the beach 🙂

  12. Angie on March 20, 2014 at 3:43 pm

Mommy brain??? Tell me about it!!! This pregnancy brain is the worst this time. Horrible! Feel your pain!

Wait, walking to the beach??? Did you guys find a place by the beach in SD???? Im soo excited for you…… We should do a meet up. I will be home in SD for the week before memorial day. (pregnancy is causing me to be super homesick) My hubby is flying me home for the week for some me time and to see family before the baby comes. Im excited!!!!

  13. Crystal on March 20, 2014 at 4:18 pm

Lol, I think sometimes I have one brain fail…and then it just snowballs the rest of the day!

I totally miss my former Zumba teacher…she moved to Hawaii, the lucky girl! But I have yet to find anyone who teaches Zumba as well as she did.

Did you guys finally find a place to live? It’s so hard to find a house when you’re not in that area yet. I still remember my parents trying to find a place near SAFB, IL, while we were still in Germany. And this was in the mid 90s, before Zillow, Trulia, etc. We ended up renting a townhouse for 6 months, then my parents bought a house. Military moves are stressful, but such a fun way to see the country (or the world) 🙂 I hope the move goes smoothly for your family.

    • Fitnessista on March 20, 2014 at 4:31 pm

thank you so much! yes, we found a house on zillow. i’d been lurking it and was the first caller when it was listed! our friends who live in SD went to go check it out, loved it, so we filled out all of the paperwork last week. it’s weird to be living in a house you haven’t actually seen yet!

  14. Megan @ Meganmumbles on March 20, 2014 at 4:26 pm

I have some, days where I am totally out of it.. I usually head home from work or go for a run to clear my head!

    • Fitnessista on March 20, 2014 at 4:31 pm

thank goodness for zumba. i can’t imagine how scatterbrained i would have been without a workout haha

  15. Meagan on March 20, 2014 at 4:28 pm

Gina! Do you have any advice when it comes to doing yoga at home? I’d like to start, but I am VERY beginner. I have been looking for something like a “daily yoga pose” or a yoga app, which will give me instructions and pictures about how to do a yoga pose, like I could learn a new one every day, but I haven’t seen anything for this! Maybe I don’t know where to look. Any ideas?

    • Fitnessista on March 20, 2014 at 4:32 pm

i think when you’re just starting out, it’s advantageous to take a live class to get hands on assistance and instruction. once you’re comfortable with the basic poses, then you can start to practice at home. check out erin motz (she has a Facebook page with a lot of tutorials! xoxo

      • Meagan on March 20, 2014 at 6:58 pm

Thanks! I’ve been to a few live classes, but am really looking for something I can do at home, in between studying or for just a quick mental re-focus. I already do my own running and gyming, and can’t go to a yoga class and the gym at the same time.

        • Fitnessista on March 20, 2014 at 7:01 pm

check out yogadownload.com, yoga glo and do you yoga 🙂

          • Meagan on March 20, 2014 at 7:04 pm

Oooh, these look doable! I’ll look into them 🙂 Thanks Gina!

Haha I can relate all too well to my brain being all over the place! It’s gotten worse since having Hunter!

  17. JG on March 20, 2014 at 5:55 pm

It’s good to know I’m not the only one who has those super scatterbrained days… I don’t have kids, so I blame getting older. (“I’m almost 30, you can’t expect my brain to be as sharp as it once was.”)

  18. Emily on March 20, 2014 at 6:30 pm

One time I was driving home from work and drove to the airport. The airport. Right up to San Francisco International’s departing flights drop off. No idea how I did that.

I so want a fitness tracker! Hoping my birthday is a good one this year 🙂

  19. Livi on March 20, 2014 at 8:37 pm

haha we all have those days!! For me it usually means I need more rest and down time!

  20. Cassie Vaughn on March 21, 2014 at 10:25 am

Girl I feel you. I’ve been having so many of those moments lately I’m beginning to wonder if I should be concerned. I legit feel like I keep getting dumber. It’s terrible!
