Indian Food and Glass Straw Lovin’

Hey guys! Hope your morning is off to a great start. I can SMELL Friday- thank goodness the weekend is almost here 😀 Any fun plans??

Holler to everyone who celebrated Indian Food Wednesday, including this lovely lady:

Tamara had Vegetarian Thali with naan

indian

*Send your Indian Food Wednesday pics my way and I’ll include them in next week’s post 🙂

After Zumba and Abs, we went to the usual spot for dinner.

We almost always get the buffet now- it’s so good!

 indian

With roti so soft and fluffy, I wanted to wrap myself in a roti blanket. And gnaw at it… haha 😉

 roti

I had three pieces instead of the usual two and left with a hefty food baby. ‘Twas glorious 😀

This morning, I had a wonderful 45-minute yoga practice, courtesy of YogaDownload.com

and washed it down with a smoothie:

smoothie

-1 C almond milk

-1 frozen banana

-frozen organic blueberries

-raw cacao powder

-maca

-Stevia, cinnamon and spinach

All slurped down with a glass straw 😀

So many of ya’ll ask me where I got my glass straws –they’re from my 105degrees days- and I’m happy to say that Glass Dharma has agreed to let me do a GroupShop on OpenSky so ya’ll can get a sweet discount.

Here are the deets:

-15 people have to sign up to buy the glass straws for the sale price to kick in – you won’t be charged until at least 15 people sign up

-The straws are $24 for 4 with a cleaning brush (Reg. price: $32); Pretty baller! Especially since I paid $12 each for mine.

-There are only 53 available and the discount is on for 48 hours– so if you’ve been wanting some glass straws, today’s your day!

*Click here* if you’d like to get in on the glass straw action.

Well I’m off to train a client and then meeting the girls for lunch! Indian again 😀 Heh heh. I can’t stay away.

Have a Happy Thursday!

xoxo,

Gina

Hey, Gina, what are the shipping charges on the straws? Haven’t ever used OpenSky and I didn’t see it anywhere. Thank you!

it depends on where you live- i’d send an email and ask, they might be able to give you an idea of how much it will be

My hubby & I made yummo Indian food last night! See receipe below. Completely vegan too! – Your Open Sky doesn’t ship to Canada right? 🙁 No straws for me.

    Indian Stew (serves 8)

    1 small head cauliflower
    butternut squash, about 3 cups
    1 small eggplant
    1 onion
    2 tbsp Indian curry paste
    680-mL can organic diced tomatoes
    2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
    2 tbsp brown sugar
19-oz can organic lentils or chickpeas, drained and rinsed
    1 handful cilantro, chopped

    Directions :

Chop cauliflower into small florets, chop squash into bite-sized pieces, and slice eggplant into finger-sized pieces. Coarsely chop onion. Lightly oil a large pot and set over medium heat. When hot, add onion and sauté until tender, 3 to 4 min. Stir curry paste into pot and cook until fragrant, 1 min. Add tomatoes, 1/2 cup (125 mL) water, vinegar, sugar and veggies. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low.
Simmer, covered, stirring occasionally until vegetables are tender, 25 to 30 min. Add lentils or chick peas for the last 5 min of cooking. Sprinkle with cilantro. Delicious over naan and with a dollop of plain yogourt.

    • Fitnessista on June 10, 2010 at 9:46 am

yup! i don’t have a cleaning brush, so i just rinse them out with water and put them in the dishwasher with the utensils

  5. CaSaundra on June 10, 2010 at 9:13 am

I wish I had an Indian restaurant in my area, but making it at home is a lot of fun too!

  12. Paige (Running Around Normal) on June 10, 2010 at 9:37 am

Ahh roti. I wish more of my friends liked Indian food. I’m also a little jealous of how you can go out to lunch with girlfriends all the time! All of my girlfriends have such different schedules..must be nice:)
    Have a great day, girl!

  13. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on June 10, 2010 at 9:37 am

I haven’t had an Indian food baby in far too long. Perhaps I can convince my parents to take me out for some tonight? This post definitely has me craving it!! Hope you have a wonderful Thursday!

  14. Marissa on June 10, 2010 at 9:48 am

I’ve had reusable straws before… but I can NEVER get them clean! I don’t know, I like to live green… but trying to wash out straws is just a bit more hassle than its worth for me! I guess I’ll just stick to sipping straight from the glass.

  15. Jocelyn on June 10, 2010 at 9:57 am

hey 🙂 I went to order a glass straw from your open sky shop but they don’t send to canada 🙁 Sad days! I need to find one! 🙂

  16. Megan @ The Daily Sweat on June 10, 2010 at 10:09 am

I LOVE those glass straws and really want them, but I’m actually practicing some self control, believe it or not, to save some moolah this month. I’ll just have to stay classy with my plastic straws I take from SBux. : )

  17. Stacy (StacyGrowsHealthy) on June 10, 2010 at 10:22 am

I love Indian food, but I swear the food expands in my belly 10 minutes after I leave the restuarant. It is so tasty and there is tons of bread and rice so I always feel uncomfortably full afterwards. Maybe if I ate it more often, I would be able to keep it under better control.

    • Fitnessista on June 10, 2010 at 10:23 am

haha i eat it every week and still gorge on it 🙂

  18. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on June 10, 2010 at 10:48 am

check out my blog today. You got an award!
Tried the speed workout, and I lucked out that a friend from the gym was also at the park and did it with me. Burpees in public in short shorts aren’t as bad with friends!

    but burpees basically suck.

Indian buffet! That looks SO good…

  32. Dee on June 10, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Just went to website and purchased. Shipping to CA was just under $6 for ground.

I’ve never jumped on anything so fast- I’ve wanted these straws badly ever since I saw them on your blog pics, even went to the maker’s website but felt that I couldn’t justify the expense. I’m on a budget that requires splurges to be few and far between. This deal was just the thing that made this an acceptable extravagance.

    Thank you!

    • Fitnessista on June 10, 2010 at 2:33 pm

so awesome! it really is a great deal and i know you’ll love them 🙂

Dinner looks delicious! Sweet and Sour Balti is one of my FAVORITE at home Indian dishes. Not sure how to send you a pic, so here is the link: http://ridingthepinkplane.blogspot.com/2009/10/do-try-this-at-home.html

  35. Kat (myfruitylife) on June 10, 2010 at 3:14 pm

I realize this is a very random question but in some of your posts I see your blackberry and it looks like you have a cute pink cover thing on it? Where did you find that? I ask because I just got my first blackberry and am trying to find a cute girly cover that is not obnoxious and most of the covers I find are not very cute -insert angry face-

    • Fitnessista on June 10, 2010 at 3:17 pm

hahah yes there are not very many cute ones out there! i ordered it online for about $30. so worth it 🙂

I love when you call it a food baby. Told my hubby I was going to have a baby and he freaked out. We have 2 already. Then I decided it wasn’t funny if hubby died from a heart attack & said it was all food. 🙂

  39. Angela on June 10, 2010 at 3:43 pm

Hi Gina….I have been wanting to try indian food….what do you suggest? Is it healthy or a splurge for you….are all the bread products whole wheat? BTW….I love your blog so much! You inspire me. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 10, 2010 at 3:46 pm

the roti is whole wheat which is awesome!
      try the channa masala (chickpeas)
      dal bukara (lentils)
      baigan bhartha (eggplant- my favorite)
      or gajar halwa (sweet carrots
the tandoori (grilled) items like seafood and chicken (if you eat those) are usually a good bet, too 🙂

Hi Gina! This post has nothing to do with Indian Food Wednesday, but I just wanted to drop a quick note and say that I just started following your blog a few weeks ago and you’ve been a big inspiration to me to work out harder and eat healthier each day. In fact, I just became vegan (been flirting with the idea for awhile) and started my own little blog to chronicle my adventures into veganland! I’ll keep using your site for recipe ideas and workout inspiration 🙂

The buffet at Indian restaurants is the best. I love that there’s always a ton of vegetarian options.

I used a glass straw once while house sitting and really liked it- I just need to buy one of my own. Now I know where to find them. 😉

Thanks so much for the link to the contest.I really appreciate it!!

  42. Krysten on June 10, 2010 at 9:51 pm

Hey Gina!! Quick question, have you noticed any change while taking maca? I’ve read about it’s benefits and am considering including it in my smoothies, but is it worth it?
