Inspiration boards + fitness necessities for 2015

Hi guys! How’s the day going? Hope you’ve had an amazing one. I took an INSANE Barry’s Bootcamp class this morning (my first one!!) and I’ll be sharing a Focus On post next week.

In the meantime, I’m really excited to share some of the beautiful inspiration boards that were sent my way. If you didn’t have time this week to make one, it would be fun to take some time to work on one this weekend. I’ve found that inspiration boards are an excellent tool in helping me remain mindful, and create daily actions, towards my goals. You can even pin an inspiration board now, so there are no excuses. 😉

Here is a collage of beautiful boards I received this week:

Inspiration

In the theme of making changes for the new year, it’s also a great time to check out fitness gear and update the true necessities, like socks, sports bras and workout underwear. Once I forgot my gym bag and had to do cardio in a regular underwire bra. It was terrible. This morning, I got rid of some mismatched socks (I swear, they disappear in the washer and never make it to the dryer) and also got some great sports bras last night via the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale.

Some more faves:

Socks:

Bombas. I recently did a post for them (they’re like the TOMs of socks!) and are my new favorite pair.

Balega. These are another favorite pair, and are great if you like thin socks.

lucy. These are awesome for running! Thin, stretchy and sweat-wicking.

Sports bras and fitness underwear:

Victoria’s Secret Incredible. Super supportive, soft and flattering.

Moving Comfort. Ideal for high-impact workouts and classes.

lululemon Flow Y and Ta-ta Tamer. I love the Flow Y for everyday and low-intensity classes (like Core40 or yoga), and the Ta-ta tamer for high intensity.

A post about gym underthings is here, too. 🙂

Sneakers:

Z-quicks or Nanos (for cross-training). I got a black pair of Z-quicks a few weeks ago (and love them!) and am still on a mission for a new pair of running shoes since mine have officially bit the dust.

What’s your all-time favorite workout sneaker or sports bra? Any fitness apparel fails? 😉

What’s on the fitness plan for the weekend?

Hope you have a great night!
xoxo

I like the looks of the vs sports bra. Must try it. Love my asics running shoes.
This weekend I’m planning a HIIT session from your new book. I’m loving it by the way! Also, ice skating with the kiddos.

    • Fitnessista on January 2, 2015 at 9:51 pm

so happy to hear you’re loving it! let me know how the workout goes 🙂

  3. Les @ The Balanced Berry on January 2, 2015 at 7:19 pm

I echo your Victoria’s Secret Incredible sports bra rec. Definitely a staple of mine! I also found a few good sports bras at Old Navy (they have a surprisingly good activewear section).

    • Fitnessista on January 2, 2015 at 9:51 pm

      yes! they have great activewear!

  4. Melodie on January 2, 2015 at 7:28 pm

My biggest friday fave today was pulling your book out of my mailbox! I felt like i was looking at a friend on the cover. 🙂 I’ve been a long time reader. So proud for you! And so excited that i now have a huge chunk of your brain right here at my fingertips! Happy 2015 to you!

    • Fitnessista on January 2, 2015 at 9:50 pm

YEAHHHHH! so so awesome! thank you for ordering <3 and yes, you have a large chunk of my brain haha. happy 2015! xoxo

  5. Christina @ The Beautiful Balance on January 2, 2015 at 7:58 pm

I’m SO happy VS stepped up their activewear game. I’m completely obsessed with their tights and bras!

    • Fitnessista on January 2, 2015 at 9:50 pm

i haven’t bought tights from them in forever, but need to!

  6. AJ @ NutriFitMama on January 2, 2015 at 9:23 pm

I like my sports bras from Old Navy, but I think I’ll check out what Victoria’s Secret has to offer! I love my Asics for running, and my old Asics for anything else. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 2, 2015 at 9:50 pm

what model asics do you wear? i used to love the GT2150/60s, but they stopped making them!

      • Lena on January 3, 2015 at 1:34 pm

Jumping on the Asics wagon here! They’ve been my running sneak of choice for the past year and a half. I wear the the GT 2000 (now the GT 2000 3) since I overpronate and have plantar fasicitis.
I’m sure you have a running shop near you that does running gait analysis, it would probably be good to check out- that’s how I got paired with my shoe. The people there take into account your weekly mileage, goals, and then put you on the a treadmill with a camera to analyze how you run in a neutral shoe, and then tweak your shoe options based on what they see.

        • Fitnessista on January 3, 2015 at 9:36 pm

that’s good to know! that’s the next model they wanted to give me, but i heard mixed reviews about the 2000 model. i definitely need to make my way to a running store out here!

      • AJ @ NutriFitMama on January 3, 2015 at 5:34 pm

I just bought some new ones the other day- I am not sure what model they are (they stopped making the ones I used to wear also! I think it might have been the same you posted) but they are the most comfortable Asics I have ever worn!

  7. queenoffitness on January 2, 2015 at 9:51 pm

Can’t wait to read your recap of Barry’s Boot Camp! Sooooo envious here. my all time favorite workout sneaks are my asics gel flash points. They are actually volleyball shoes but they are amazing for Zumba. My favorite sports bra is the Champion power back which they sadly don’t make anymore. It’s the only bra that keeps me “locked and loaded” during high intensity exercise sessions.

  8. Jodie on January 3, 2015 at 2:17 am

I like tek sports bras from Marika and Old Navy. My fitness weekend is lots of Pilates, dancing and walking !

  9. Tracey on January 3, 2015 at 4:38 am

Can we see the inspiration boards individually? They look so cool

  10. Brynn on January 3, 2015 at 5:46 am

I love the Incredible from VS and the Ta-Ta tamer. Some of my favorite capris are Zella, old navy and Fabletics.

  11. Alex @ get big, go to work on January 3, 2015 at 6:18 am

My all time favorite running shoe is the Brooks pureflow! They are super comfy and very lightweight. They provide enough support for running but it also doesn’t feel like you have a clunky shoe on! Lately, I’ve been loving the Fabletics line of apparel. Super cute, practical and flattering!

  12. Kristin on January 3, 2015 at 6:36 am

Just wanted to let you know I’m loving your book! It’s really helping me to get ideas on how to plan out workouts since I’ve always struggled on exactly how to do that. This is the motivation I need for the new year!!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2015 at 8:11 am

that is amazing! so happy to hear you’re enjoying it 🙂 xoxo

  13. Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment on January 3, 2015 at 6:43 am

I do need some new gear – especially socks and sneakers so thanks for the suggestions! I swear the socks do disappear in the dryer. Mystery as old as time.

    Hi Gina,
What does “affiliate links” are included, above thanks as always for your support mean? What is an affiliate link mean and how do we know if it is an affiliate link? I am confused! Thanks! Happy New Year!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2015 at 8:11 am

      hi lee!
affiliate links are often used by bloggers, and it means by linking to products, we earn a small commission from clicks (or purchases), depending on how you set it up. they don’t impact purchase price.
hope you’re having a happy new year!

      • Lee on January 3, 2015 at 11:47 am

Oh – got it! Thanks so much 🙂 Happy New Year!

        • Lee on January 3, 2015 at 12:10 pm

p.s. how do we know which ones are your affiliates links above? thanks

          • Fitnessista on January 3, 2015 at 9:25 pm

usually the retail products (for things that can be purchased online) are affiliate links.

  15. Andrea on January 3, 2015 at 7:37 am

The Brooks Ghost is my absolute favorite running shoe. I’m wearing the Ghost 6 right now, but they are getting ready to phase in the 7, so you can pick up the 6’s for a good price. I got an additional pair after Christmas for $59 (regular $129, I think). Love them!

  16. Erika S. on January 3, 2015 at 10:26 am

I LOVE the lulu flow Y as well…def my favorite. I also love my old navy black on black print compression leggings and capris…and i just stumbled upon those balega socks…I tried them on in a running store as I was getting fitted for sneakers. I over pronate so I went w/the new Saucony Guide 8. I haven’t run in them yet but I’m hoping they’ll be great. They are my first pair of running sneakers and the reviews were really good compared to the Guide 7.

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2015 at 9:38 pm

awesome, i will check out those out! thank you!

  17. Cassy @ Wine & Dine to the Finish Line on January 3, 2015 at 11:06 am

Did you try out the Barry’s Bootcamp in Hillcrest? My boyfriend just bought me a 3 pack of sessions there for Christmas to see how I like it and I’m so nervous to go! It looks insane!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2015 at 9:37 pm

yes! it was insane. it was awesome.

  18. Tracy on January 3, 2015 at 11:18 am

I really like my Mizuno Wave Inspires although they’ve changed the model recently and haven’t worn the 11 model yet…

I love Lulu’s run swiftly tech racerback and have recently discovered “In the Flow” crop, which I really love, too!

This morning I tried a new-to-me class called Warrior Sculpt… yoga with light weights. It was really fun and a great sweaty workout!!

  19. bridget on January 3, 2015 at 11:48 am

I’m a Saucony girl when it comes to shoes! Nothing else has worked for me. I love the wide toe box.

  20. Molly@This Life Is Sparkling on January 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm

i used to workout in regular bras when i first started working out and idk why i ever did that. lol

  21. Courtney Bentley on January 4, 2015 at 5:39 am

Excited to read about your Barrys Bootcamp class I have always wanted to take on! Love C

  22. Shaina Anderson on January 4, 2015 at 6:15 am

I LOVE VS sports bras. I still have a closet full of lululemon and the stuff really lasts, so I haven’t updated tops and bottoms in quite a while. I wanted to branch and out and went for a fitting room sesh at LJ – didn’t love it like I wanted to.

  23. Katie @ Talk Less, Say More on January 4, 2015 at 7:19 am

I LOVE my Nanos for CrossFit but when it comes to running, I’m a Mizuno girl till the end! 😉

  24. Kara H. on January 4, 2015 at 8:28 am

I’m obsessed with my Asics running shoes. They are the most comfy shoes I’ve ever worn. And I’ve worn a lot of different shoes. 😉

My fav sports bra now is Victoria Secret. Now that I’ve been pregnant or nursing for the last two years I need a sports bra that can handle high impact and its been a game changer.

Can’t wait for the Winter Shape Up!!!

  25. April on January 4, 2015 at 8:44 am

I highly recommend the brooks pure flow 2s. I need to update my running shoes, as well – one of my 2015 goals is to get back into running shape. I’m also really excited for WSU! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

  26. Mandy on January 4, 2015 at 10:25 am

I agree; I have two of the sports bras by Victoria’s Secret … I think they are called The Incredible. Great support for those with larger (ahem) chests 🙂 a bit pricey….but last through washing etc.

  27. Nellie @ Brooklyn Active Mama on January 5, 2015 at 12:34 pm

I have to agree with a PC — Old Navy does a great job of keeping my tatas tamed but I might have to look into these brands!
