Invisalign: before and after

This post is sponsored through my partnership with Invisalign® clear aligners. Full disclosure.

The time has come: I am on my last set of Invisalign clear aligners!

I seriously CAN’T BELIEVE my Invisalign treatment is over. It went by so quickly, and was a piece of cake. It was convenient, and much of my treatment was on autopilot. I wore the clear aligners with small tweaks here and there, but there was no need for long and frequent appointments. I only had four, and received my next sets of aligners so I could switch them every two weeks. I could take the clear aligners out as needed to eat and brush, and they were painless. Compared to my past experiences with traditional braces, it was night and day. I didn’t feel like a metal mouth, and my teeth moved significantly faster.

Here’s what my teeth looked like before:

(dat bite, though.)

and here’s where they are now.

The difference is remarkable, especially with my overbite. This has bothered me the most since my teeth shifted, and my orthodontist is a perfectionist. It’s nearly gone, and looks so much better.

Here’s what the plan looks like for now:

-Continue to wear my last set for one more month, and remain diligent about wearing the rubber bands to correct my bite

-Transition to my maintenance clear aligners. I wear one set for a month, 22/7; the next set, 12/7; and the final set, only while I’m sleeping. From there, I’ll get my  Vivera® retainers, which I’ll just wear while I’m sleeping. As my orthodontist said, I’m at the light at the end of the tunnel.

They’ve been so easy to use, I wouldn’t have a problem just continuing to wear them as I have been. (I am excited to get the attachments removed at my next appointment, though.)

I think, like anything else, my treatment has demonstrated the value of consistency. A little consistent effort becomes habit. Just like going to the gym, training for an event, or working hard towards a goal, the time will pass and the results will remain. While I was wearing the aligners, my teeth were shifting, even though I couldn’t notice the subtle differences. Almost a year has passed, and they are exactly where I hoped they’d be.

If you’ve been considering Invisalign, I have had an awesome experience. I would certainly recommend it to those who don’t want the look of traditional braces, but would like to dramatically change their smile. Hope you have a wonderful day and I’ll see you later on the Family page with P’s 3-month update!

Congratulations!! I just picked up my retainers today, after a ten month Invisalign treatment. I’m so happy to be DONE! And girl, I’ve had my attachments off since July – getting those removed was one of the best days ever, ha ha! I didn’t realize you had them on your front teeth. I did, too, and I felt like mine were super obvious.

Do you have retainers now that you have to wear? I was never given any after my braces which is why teeth have horribly shifted. They drive me crazy!

Your teeth do look beautiful, but to be honest i never noticed you had an overbite before – granted, never seen you in person:= Since i have gotten older, my teeth have shifted SO much and my dentist recommends invisalign, but the cost is detering me:( Hopefully one day since you are so happy with the results!

Your teeth look great! Your comment about getting into a habit thru consistency was very intuitive & inspiring. It made me stop to think about things that I might be hesitant to do because it sounds like it would be a pain, but might end up being nbd once I get started. Great outlook as usual!

Does it make your speech different with the trays in?

All eyes on P! She looks so stinking adorable..and just like the Pilot! I so love her gummy, open mouth smiles but this one is so cute….

BTW…your teeth look nice too…I’m actually going to need to get invisalign because of slight shifting of my bottom teeth…and I’ve heard it definitely helps with excessive (and unnecessary) snacking throughout the day given the 22 hr piece…

right?! she makes me want 14 babies (even though we’re so so done haha)
initially, it helped a TON with mindless snacking. then, i just got very proficient about eating quickly, brushing, and putting the aligners back in 😉

Hi, just curious about 2 things. What are the red icons on the teeth in the computer-generated images? What’s the cost of Invisalign? Thanks for sharing your experience!

That’s awesome you had such great experiences! I’m FINALLY getting braces! I need to get jaw surgery as well to align my mouth. I’m nervous about it but SO excited to finally have pretty teeth in roughly a year and a half!

I’m on liner 21 (25 total) and it is CRAZY how much my teeth have changed. I had pretty bag crowding in my lower teeth, and just a few slight changes needed in my upper. To anyone that is considering Invisalign…. DO IT! Honestly, I was so worried about 1) it affecting my speech, which it didn’t (and I teach English to Italians, so pronunciation is super important), 2) people noticing the aligners (no one did ever… EVER), and 3) if I would make it 22 hours each day… I live in Italy, and food + wine + espresso is constant and I just love to snack/graze. So I do take them out a lot, and I DEFINITELY don’t make it to 22 hours a day. And my teeth have stayed right on target! And if you’re worried about cost, check with your insurance, it’s surprising how much some insurance companies cover (mine covered half!). And if they don’t cover anything… this is your SMILE. This is (to me) the most important feature you have, and when you have a straight, white smile, it just makes you glow 🙂
