It’s been a while

Hiiii 😀 How are you? Hope you had an amazing day!

Thank you SO much for your incredible feedback on Jenna’s “Focus On” post. I couldn’t be around the computer today since I was at work, and loved the fact that ya’ll took the reigns by helping each other with questions and facilitating discussion. You’re amazing. That is all.

This morning, I wanted something green to start the day.

veg

Oh hey, green juice. It’s been a while 😉

juice

I drank that beauty for taking Bell for a little walk and then made a waffle-wich for b-fast:

sandwich

-2 gluten-free waffles

-2 egg whites

-goat cream cheese

When the Pilot called me, I told him what I was eating and he laughed so hard. He said “I can’t picture you eating a waffle-wich.” What does that even mean? I dominated that thing. Haha.

Work today was good. I taught Zumba (which was unexpected, but a blasty), assisted some classes and taught Stretch. On my break, I pumped some crazy iron and foam rolled for a while.

I have a foam roller at home, but work has the nice, big, long ones (t….w……s…..s)

Lunch:

Hummus wrap with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives and foodgasms.

I just got back home and am going to chill for a little while before attacking the laundry from today. Changing 3+ times a day is no joke.

Have a great night! <3

xoxo

Something to do: Circuit Workout!

This is the one I did today and it was a great total-body workout. The entire thing took 35 minutes, which I followed with 10 minutes of foam rolling.

Complete the moves in each circuit for the specified amount of reps and then repeat the circuit 2 more times (for a total of 3 times) before moving onto the next one. As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes and honor your body and injuries.

Warm-up 5 minutes (cardio of choice)

Circuit 1: Stability ball push-ups (15), stability ball back extension (12), stability ball hamstring curl (12)

Circuit 2: Tricep dips (15), stability ball sit-ups (15)

Circuit 3: Lat pulldown (12), cable bicep curl (12)

Circuit 4: Lateral raise (12), split squat (12 on each side)

Follow with cardio of choice, cool down, stretch

i can totally see you dominating that waffle-wich!
i have a foam roller like that at home, although i have honestly never really used it, not even sure what to do with it! (t….w……s…..s) LOL

      hahahaha

  3. lindsey on May 18, 2011 at 10:09 pm

So, I started juicing a few days ago. I’ve discovered that I do NOT like celery in my juice – it dominates the flavor of everything! I made one this morning that was pretty tasty – apple, lemon, spinach, kale. yums.

GF waffle sandwiches are AMAZING!!! my hubby and I have them all the time!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:22 pm

mine has been in the produce drawer, waiting patiently 🙂

In fact, I DID need a circuit for tomorrow AM… Thanks so much i love your workout moves, I can always follow them and your links are always the best descriptions!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:22 pm

      yay!! 🙂

  7. suzi on May 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm

are those side swept bangs I see?

I’m totally excited, I bought a new Breville juicer today! I killed my Vintage Juice Tiger a few months back – it died only a week or so after it’s creator 🙁 and I’m dying to give this sucker a try! Suzi needs some green juice stat!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:21 pm

yes i’m having a bang complex! straight across or side???? alhhhhhh!

      • Beth on May 20, 2011 at 2:52 am

My fave is when you do the whole bang twisty thing 😉

  8. Sarah on May 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm

    Gina,

Would you do a post on “how to/when to use the roller”? I feel like I hear a lot about ‘tiger tails’ and foam rollers…but no idea what I would do if I ran across one….Stupid question?!

  9. Cindy on May 18, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Do you guys put water or juice in ur green smoothies?

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:20 pm

it’s a green juice, so all the produce is ran through a juicer instead of pulverized in a blender.

  10. Chris on May 18, 2011 at 10:15 pm

ok. I’m new to all this….. what is a foam roller? and what do you do with it? lol

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:22 pm
      • Chris on May 19, 2011 at 8:38 am

Thank you!!! I totally get it now 🙂 Sounds like a good investment and something I will look into buying. 🙂

  11. Alexa @ SimpleEats on May 18, 2011 at 10:23 pm

I’ve never used a foam roller, but I feel like I’d love the feel of the stretch!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:23 pm

      you would. it’s life-changing, really

  12. Therese on May 18, 2011 at 10:26 pm

Kind of random, but do you use a gluten-free tortilla in those wraps? If so, what kind? I haven’t found a brand I like!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 10:31 pm

i usually use the brown rice ones from trader joes, but that was a whole wheat one since my bro made the wrap for me. usually i feel gross after eating gluten and was totally fine after that!

      • Therese on May 19, 2011 at 4:49 pm

Thanks :o) Trader Joe’s comes to Kansas City this summer. Can’t wait!

  13. Hannah on May 18, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Hey, Gina! Since you’ve been adding some animal protein/protein in general to your diet, have you noticed your muscle coming back?

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 11:30 pm

i have abs again. so yes, very much so 🙂

  14. Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness on May 18, 2011 at 10:42 pm

I love foam rollers. Best invention ever. We had a longer one but my boyfriend broke it in half during a back stretch, so now we just have two shorty rollers.
    And LOL – (t…w…s…s!)
And don’t you just love olives? I could eat them on or in just about anything. Mmm.

  15. SmileCrave on May 18, 2011 at 10:47 pm

    twss!!…. lmao!!!!!

  16. The Healthy Hipster on May 18, 2011 at 10:54 pm

LOVE the circuit training workout. I just did a post on my absolute love for both at-home exercising and strength training. Can’t wait to give this one a go! Thx!

  17. kaila @ healthy helper! on May 18, 2011 at 10:55 pm

Now I am really craving a humus wrap! That one looks amazing! Have you ever tried them grilled!?!? Amaze…absolutely foodgasmic!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 11:30 pm

      YES! omg. so good.

  18. Namaste Gurl on May 18, 2011 at 10:56 pm

I haven’t juiced in awhile, either! You just reminded me I need to get back to it asap!

  19. Ellen on May 18, 2011 at 10:58 pm

Question about the egg whites (I know you’ve probably answered this before– sorry!). Why don’t you eat the egg yolks? And do you throw them away, or buy carton egg whites? Just curious. I eat a LOT of eggs!

    • Fitnessista on May 18, 2011 at 11:30 pm

i buy carton organic egg whites because i eat anywhere from 4-6 a day! if i had the yolks each time, it would be no bueno since high cholesterol runs in the fam

  20. Ashely (Feeding Ashley) on May 18, 2011 at 11:18 pm

I love my foam roller. It can hurt so good, or just feel amazing. I need to get my juice on soon, it’s been far too long.

  21. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on May 18, 2011 at 11:44 pm

waffle-wich for b-fast = that looks so good! And so creative and cute, too 🙂

I am the only blogger and blog reader who’s never foam rolled. The closest I get is rolling a tennis ball underneath my feet when my plantar fascistis acts up! I really need to start rolling though because I think it would do me sooo much good.

Hope you have a CHILL night and can take a load off and relax. After you get done with all that laundry. Joy of joys, no doubt 🙂

  22. Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food on May 18, 2011 at 11:44 pm

ohh wonderful circuit workout! It’s the only way I like to lift! 🙂

I adore wafflewich’s, the pilot is too silly! 😛 I need to check on the previous post because I love crossfit! 🙂

wafflewich . . . .looks awesome. i want to get on the foam rolling bandwagon. i hear nothing but good things about it 🙂

  25. Allison on May 19, 2011 at 6:28 am

I have a short foam roller at home but i use the longer ones at the gym i work at too lol:) And i totally hate having to change and shower 3+ times a day and the fact that i work at a gym so i live in gym clothes! Outfit 1=gym logo shirt + what im gonna work out in after work, shower then workout outfit 2 for 1st jui jujitsu class and then shower and workout outfit 3 for 2nd jui jujitsu class! sometimes i skip class just so i can wear normal clothes lol:) And that wrap looks divine!!!

  26. Alison on May 19, 2011 at 6:31 am

Ha! I, too, have a foam roller at home, but I prefer the bigger one at my gym. 🙂

  27. Christine @ Burning It Off on May 19, 2011 at 7:02 am

I have a big foam roller like that — I bought it from your open sky shop long time ago (I think when you started the shop) . I love it and my bro in law is going to get one next time you have a sale — any idea when that will happen again?

  30. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries on May 19, 2011 at 8:52 am

    1) I LOVEHEARTADORE my foam roller. I was having IT band issues and my PT girl showed me how to use one and OMG best experience of my life (t..w…s…s?). I try to use mine everyday, it really helps me loosen up.

    2) I just recieved my treats from Twincakes via the Open skys deal and HOLYAMAZEBALLS BEST.PURCHASE.EVER! I was pretty wary about the Mesquite and Coconut (not a fan) but their treats are SOOOO GOOD! I don’t have the selfcontrol to be veggietarian/veggian (miss-spellings on purpose) but you betta BAHlieve I will be enjoying more treats from pure2raw! Thanks for featuring them!

    3)Waffle-which looks awesome!

  34. Leila on May 19, 2011 at 10:05 am

I’m pretty familiar with all the moves you posted.. except squat split. Maybe its a different name than what I’m used to but I can’t for the life of me think of what that is. I tried googling it and got like 3 different moves. Can you explain please?!

  35. Julie (A Case of the Runs) on May 19, 2011 at 10:05 am

Ha ha… had to look that one up, though I knew the phrase…. guess it’s abbreviated now, too!

  36. Mandy on May 19, 2011 at 10:09 am

I’m relatively new to your blog, so you might have answered this before: do you use a juicer or a blender to make your green juice?

    I love reading your posts.

    Thanks!
