It’s Shakin’ Time

Helloooooo 😀 It’s me again… haha 😉 How’s your night going?

Mine has been GLORIOUS because I got to teach Zumba after a 3-week hiatus. It felt so good to shake it again! Zumbies, come to class on Wednesday- I’m back in acción 😀

Some of today’s eats:

Pre-Insanity fit test (aka before I got my booty handed to me by Shaun T.)

nanner

Bananer with almond butter and mesquite

Millet bread with cinnamon

millet

Post-Insanity Fit Test:

choc cherry bomb

Choc Cherry Bomb Shake. It’s so bomb 😉

Lonchi:

salad

A massaged kale and rainbow chard salad, topped with spiralized beet (using this nifty gadget), raw goat cheddar, balsamic, and a hefty *shake* of GOLD:

garlic gold

Italian seasoning mixed with crunchy garlic bits. I’m a fan.

And of course, the raw almond butter crunch moon pie.

moon pie (6)

Stop looking at my moon pie. Heh heh.

‘Twas glorious. Something about a mid-day dessert just makes the day so much better 😉

Well I’m off to shower my stinky face and then make some dinner. Have a lovely night and I’ll see ya in the morning with a fun reader’s request post.

xoxo,

Gina

Something to read: THIS Woman’s Day.com article: 9 Healthy Treats From Food Bloggers. I’m so stoked to have been included in the article, along with some of my favorite ladies (Tina, Kath, Caitlin, The FBGs and Roni!). Check it out, yo 😀

Today’s tip: If you’re dreading it, don’t do it. Obviously workouts can’t always been fun and roses… oh wait, YES THEY CAN. Find a workout that makes you excited and that you look forward to, instead of dreading it. I’m not saying workouts should always be easy, but it should be easy for you to think of a reason why you want to be there.

There is a type of exercise out there that you will *love* and if you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. It makes me sad when people tell me they *have* to run on the treadmill or they’ll gain weight. No you don’t. You can eat well and just do yoga and walking if that’s what makes you happy. Take the “work” out of workout 😉

I usually get sick of my workouts when it’s time to change seasons. By the end of the winter I HATE the treadmill and can’t wait to get outside and run! I love changing workouts to make them fresh because it’s so easy to get stuck in a rut. Okay I’m off to read that article!

  2. michelle on April 12, 2010 at 8:28 pm

congratulations on getting into that mag! how exciting!!!

  3. Diane on April 12, 2010 at 8:41 pm

I love the tip for tonight! I was actually going to ask your opinion on something along those lines–I’ve read that Europeans are so much thinner than us because they walk everywhere, but I feel like walking isn’t something Americans consider a workout. Do you think it’s possible to really lose weight from just walking? (I’m asking because as much as I’d love to be a runner, I’m awful…I haven’t given up yet, though! haha)

    • Diane on April 12, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Oh, and how rude of me–CONGRATS on the article!! So fun & exciting 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2010 at 8:50 pm

YES it’s totally possible! when i first started my weight loss journey, i walked every day. before long, i had lost 20 lbs. it really does work 🙂

Yummmm that raw moon pie looks delish!

I used to take BodyFlow, BodyStep, BodyPump and kickboxing at my old gym (before I moved). And I LOVED them.My new gym only offers spin. I don’t love it yet but maybe I will learn to…? Hopefully.

    • Fitnessista on April 12, 2010 at 9:21 pm

  16. fittingbackin on April 12, 2010 at 10:00 pm

“take the work out of work out” – love it! And I do it often with books and audio books – and sometimes even a sex and the city episode!! 🙂 Sometimes you need a little break, even when you’re working out!!

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2010 at 9:47 am

my dad has a gym in their house, and when i lived there during college, i would pop in a sex and the city dvd and get on the treadmill. it was a GREAT way to make a workout fly by 🙂

  17. JR on April 12, 2010 at 10:14 pm

Thank you for that tip. Such a good point that I need to really get behind. I am totally that person who does it for the calories that “need” to be burned, and you are such a good wake up call for how wrong that can be. Thanks!

  18. Christel on April 12, 2010 at 11:48 pm

So, will you be doing Plyo tomorrow? I LOVE Insanity. It is probably the hardest workout I’ve ever done. I’ve been doing it off/on for just shy of a year! Can’t wait for more updates!
    xo, Christel

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2010 at 9:46 am

i did plyo this morning! CRAZY!!! loved it though 😀

  19. Heather (Heather's Dish) on April 13, 2010 at 12:35 am

love the reminder at the end – eating well is a lot of the battle, and should be good fuel for what we love to do! thanks for reminding me of that today 🙂

  20. Kelsey on April 13, 2010 at 12:37 am

mmm yummy raw dessert. what a great way to end a day huh!

  21. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on April 13, 2010 at 12:42 am

Thanks to you Gina you have introduced me to Zumba. I now take a zumba classes and really enjoy shaking my booty 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2010 at 9:46 am

that’s so awesome- i’m glad you love it!

  22. Jaclyn on April 13, 2010 at 3:39 am

I still have to try Zumba! I’m not very skilled at dancing but I LOVE it, can’t think of a more fun way to exercise…besides yoga of course 😉

Lovin your raw bars, so creative and look so yummy! I def want to try that moon pie challenge too! Maybe next weekend, or next time I am home from college with access to my full kitchen! 😉

    Take care , G!

  23. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on April 13, 2010 at 8:04 am

Love that tip–so true. When I do something at the gym I don’t particularly enjoy, I end up doing it lazily.

  24. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on April 13, 2010 at 8:14 am

Ahhh that moon pie looks fabulous.

Great, great advice. It took me SO long to realize I don’t have to run if I’m not feelin’ it! So liberating.

      thanks katie!
no, this is the first one i’ve tried and i’m loving it so far

  26. Jessica on April 13, 2010 at 8:38 am

“take the work out of workout”, the best advice I’ve had in a while. I’ve been in a work out slump. It’s getting better, as nicer weather is here and I can hang out and work outside at home, but it’s been a tough couple of months at the gym.

  27. Katherine on April 13, 2010 at 8:56 am

Do you keep all your spice mixings in one spot? How do you store them? (photos?)
    Thanks so much!
    Katherine

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2010 at 9:44 am

i have two spice cabinets filled to the brim with spices- maybe i’ll organize them and take some pics 🙂

  28. Christina on April 13, 2010 at 9:23 am

I really want to try zumba! I went once but it was mostly older women and not so tough. I wish I could take your class!

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2010 at 9:43 am

i wish you could, too! if you’re ever in valdosta, let me know!

  29. Catherine on April 13, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Love that tip! There are so many different things to do to get yourself moving, I don’t know why people drag themselves to the gym over and over to do the same workout that they hate! Explore new classes, or just get your butt outside and go for a walk with a friend (furry or human) 🙂

  30. Dominique on April 14, 2010 at 6:46 pm

So jealous of your choc cherry bomb shakes. Cherries aren’t available in stores over here and I haven’t been able to find them frozen in any stores–not even Whole Foods! I tried the Starbucks version and blech! I forgot how much I hate artificial cherry flavour. It reminded me of cough medicine.

Also jealous of your Garlic Gold goodies. You guys down south have some amazing foodstuffs. Up in Canada we hardly have anything as interesting. I work at a lab that does food testing and sometimes we get food products that have yet to go out on the shelves and just when I think something is interesting and sounds awesome, I realize that it’s something only sold in the US. Lucky ducks!!
