I’ve been hacked

[ok, not me, but my teeth]

Heyyyy 😀 How are ya? Hope you’ve had a great day so far <3 Loved reading your comments about eating plans and also the ones on today’s family post 🙂

Today was a mixture of things- lots of greatness, but I also getting hacked at during a dental appointment kind of put a damper on the day.

At least the eats were good 😉

Favorite Larabar everrrrrrrrr

and the return of black bean spaghetti!

spaghetti

[brand info is *here]

I love black bean spaghetti because it tastes like the real thing, but only has two ingredients (black beans, water) and 20g of protein per serving. It just looks a little scary 😉

It was amazing with wilted spinach, marinara sauce, a blanket of nutritional yeast and red chili flakes.

The brand of marinara sauce I used was “Mom’s” brand – it has whole cloves of garlic and entire basil leaves.

Swoon.

So about the dentist appointment…

I was due for a cleaning and it was my first time going to a Tucson dentist after going to the one I LOVE in Valdosta. I got hacked. Literally. She got a spot that I felt in my soul. I got through it, but am appreciating the beauty of choice the fact that I never have to go back there.

The weather has been super hot and muggy lately, so I’m going to try working out at night to see how it goes. The prob I have with working out at night is that after a long day, it’s hard for me to find the energy to have a great workout. If I take or teach a class at night, I’m totally fine- I thrive off of group fitness energy 🙂 I usually prefer working out in the mornings – I get up, get er done while I’m refreshed, and then start my day.

On the schedule for tonight:

-TurboFire HIIT 25 workout- I’m going to watch Allie to keep it low impact and wear my HRM

-Weights

Also, I have some bananas that are screaming to be made into banana bread.

bananas

I better listen to them 🙂

See ya in the morning!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Now that summer’s here, have you been working out earlier than usual, or waiting until nighttime? How many times a week do you take group fitness classes?

*****Thanks so much to my friends at Redbook Magazine for the shout out in this month’s issue! <3

I work out in the evenings. Right now the closest gym to me is almost 30 minutes away (new one being built is literally walking distance from me but won’t be open until end of the year). A majority of my workouts are group classes: BodyPump twice a week, Spin twice a week, the occasional Zumba class (only one I’m available for is Sundays at 430pm – awkward time) and then I usually do an at home workout like DVDs or hit up my apartment fitness center’s treadmill. I’m the same way with group classes – it gives me more energy then when I work out alone.

PS I am definitely looking for that black bean spaghetti!!

Congrats on Redbook! That’s amazing! And I can’t wait to try the black bean pasta. I hope they have it when I go back to Whole Paycheck!

I used to work out at night, but now I am working out at 6 am. So much better than the evenings! I can actually relax when I get home from work. 🙂

The Redbook mention is so cool! It’s hot here too, so if I’m going to exercise outside it has to be in the morning. A lot of times it doesn’t even cool down at night until it’s dark, and I don’t run in the dark 🙂 I LOVE group fitness and take a class at least 5 times a week!

I’ve been hitting the gym after work. Better that than sitting in my extremely hot house!

Since I started working full-time on early hours I have had to switch to evening workouts – it has been a real challenge to commute home and then find the motivation to work out, make dinner, do dishes, blog, and whatever other chores are waiting for me. I’ve just started allowing myself to not be so anal about the dishes or putting laundry away immediately – my sleep and hour of relaxation in the evenings has become too valuable.

BTW – When I lived in VA I took Bikram yoga once a week and either Zumba or spin once a week. I miss the variation in my exercise soooo much and can’t wait to join a legit gym (I’ve been using the free one at my apartment complex) and buy a yoga package so I can get back into it. I’ve gone about 9 months without a gym membership and 6 months without yoga… I miss it!

I’m all about taking classes– it’s already scheduled into my day, I don’t have to think out what I need to do and they’re always a blast. If I’m not taking a class I like to workout with a friend 🙂 As you can see I’m not great at working out solo. I find that I push myself more and am less likely to quit when I’m with other people.

P.S. that black bean spagetti actually looks really delish!!

The Dentist and I do not get along. Last time I went in for a cleaning, it turned into a series of appointments over the course of several months, culminating in the epic event this week when I went to the oral surgeon to have a metal rod screwed into my jaw bone. And I brush and floss daily! Not cool. I blame the dreadtist for this nightmare. At least I got a sundae out of the deal 🙂

so intrigued by the black bean spaghetti! we don’t have a whole foods, but perhaps wegmans would have something similar? i’ll have to look.

i’m in florida for the summer, and if i don’t get up and get going by 8am, there’s no way i can work out. i wake up at 7:45 to go running 3 days a week and do zumba 2-3 times a week. i’m using this summer to fully focus on MYSELF. no classes, no work. just ME time, which i desperately need.

that spaghetti looks amazing!! are the noodles from whole foods?

i’ve actually just tried moving my workouts indoors because it’s hot here in texas morning, noon and night. so hot!!

It is more inspiring to comment and not just lurk 🙂 Love the blog. Love your posts, your carefully chosen guest posts (including the Pilot) and love the new family page. How exciting!

I’m uber picky about my dentist because I was spoiled growing up going to one of the best dentists in town and having my god mother as a dental hygienist. When I moved to Charlotte I had to find another dentist and the one they referred me to had nasty seashell border wall paper and a neglected cardboard box of skanky old toys in the corner. Needless to say I made them take it off of their referral list 🙂 This still give me a hard time about that one.

I hate the dentist so so so so so much, and I know its horrible to HATE things, but…GAH…I just find the whole experience SO dreadful.
