June 16: A weird amazing dream

I have a lot of crazy dreams, but usually have the most bizarre ones over the full moon. The past week, it was a full, gorgeous moon and I had my first baby-related dream.

I was sleeping in a room somewhere that looked like a hospital, but not quite. It had the same sanitary florescent feel of a hospital, but more casual. All of the people working there wore normal civilian uniforms instead of scrubs and there were restaurants, lounges and comfy beds in the building.

One of the workers awoke me from sleeping and said “Come on, it’s time to see your baby.”

I was so confused because as I got out of bed, my belly was HUGE and round, and I’d obviously not given birth yet.

“But I haven’t had my baby yet.”

“Yes you have, she was born last night. Don’t you want to meet her?”

So I followed the “nurse” or whoever this was down a long hall and into a room that was full with rows of 3–level bunk beds.

She reached into the top of one of the bunk beds and brought down a teeny tiny baby with dark hair.

The baby was so beautiful and perfect I started to cry. As I held her, my mind immediately switched from joy to freak-out mode that I had no idea what to do with this baby. I didn’t know how to feed her or care for her, and I immediately began to panic. And then I woke up.

Insane, right??

I had an acupuncture appointment today and when I got there, my acupuncturist asked how I was feeling and if I had any pregnancy-related symptoms. I told him that my hips had been hurting like a biotch and that I was nauseous and tired, so he said he’d plan out today’s points accordingly. He also asked whether I thought it was a boy or a girl.

I told him that I’ve always thought that it’s a boy, but that last night I dreamt that it was a girl. I told him about my dream and he said it gave him the chills because I almost always only remember my dreams when it’s a full moon.

Last time I saw him, he thought it was a boy, but this time he was convinced it was a girl.

Acupuncturists can guess by feeling your pulse on both wrists. Whichever side has a strong pulse is the dominant sex and an estimation of whether it’s a boy or a girl. Last time, when I was only 4 ½ weeks along, my left side (boy side) was stronger and this time my right side was slightly stronger, so he said he definitely thought girl.

I can’t wait to find out.

Did you have crazy dreams during pregnancy or have random full moon dreams?

Did any of the pregnancy dreams come true?

We were going crazy before we found put we were having a girl! I swear that wait seems like forever!! Haha! I had a very similar dream while pregnant. I dreamt I had the baby but I was still pregnant and it was a girl with dark hair too! And my baby girl was born with dark hair (which is now almost auburn). So weird! I had another dream that she was 3 years old And we were walking with her on the boardwalk. I never had any boy dreams. And at first I felt I was having a boy. So did everyone in my family. After the dreams, I was positive it was a girl. Pretty sure you are having a girl! 😉

I think its the day of weird dreams.

My bf said he dreamt he got offered to open up a site in Japan and said “Miso Yellow” because his boss told him it meant dream come true.

I on the other hand had a dream I went to the healthy living summit and forgot ALL my bags and had nothing with me.

Hopefully both of those things never happen 😉

I say girl! With BOTH my pregnancies I had early dreams about my babies and their sex. And very eerily, both times the sex was right and both times my kids ended up looking almost exactly as they did in the dreams. Gives me chills still. It’s like I knew my children before they were even born.

Wow, what a vivid dream! How strange that you only remember them on full moons – in such detail too! That’s amazing that your acupuncturist can be so perceptive, too…fascinating 🙂 xyx

With my second child I had a dream that he was a boy and that he was named after my father! (We had been planning on naming him – if it was a boy – after my husband)! It was a weird whole long story dream, but I did wind up having a boy and we named him after my father! We never found out beforehand if we were having a boy or girl!

Every once and a while I’ve had crazy wedding dreams that make no sense & scare the crap out of me (ex. me showing up at the ceremony with my hair still wet?, nobody walking me down the aisle, etc.) and a friend of mine said she had the same type of stupid dreams before she got married. I think when something big is happening in your life, its only normal to have that play into your dreams 🙂

  7. Ivette on June 21, 2011 at 10:14 am

I actual had a similar dream where I was in a hospital and the nurse came to me and said heres your baby, and handed me a baby girl, I became SOOOOO upset and started crying saying this baby was beautiful, but not my child because I had a boy. And I searched and searched, and finally found him in another room being held by my hubs. And sure enough all three major ultrasounds confirmed it was a boy. People laugh when I tell them the story, but i believe its your subconscious telling you what you are having.

My guess is girl! I’ve been right for 8 pregnancies of my husband’s friends. No rhyme or reason just guesses 🙂

  9. Laura on June 21, 2011 at 10:18 am

I had totally crazy dreams when I was pregnant. I kept dreaming that I would forget to take care of the baby. I also dreamed that my first was a boy, and he was!

I had a dream last week (I guess during the full moon…) that my sister had a baby boy. She isn’t pregnant but she will be doing in vitro fertilization next month. They have done in vitro twice and it only worked once so I have been nervous about it, but ever since I had that dream I have had a really good feeling about her getting pregnant. I can’t wait to find out!

  11. BarbaraLW on June 21, 2011 at 10:38 am

I had sooo many dreams when I was pregnant with my daughter! The dreams I remember the most involved the delivery of the baby… and then the doctor and nurses would be so happy to present me with the new “baby”… and it was a doll or a kitten! haha… so nuts… those usually woke me up because I was so mad to have a cat instead of a real baby!!

  12. Teri on June 21, 2011 at 10:43 am

I’ve had dreams where I’ve given birth to a baby, and I do not know how to take care of them at all. I remember one dream where I put the baby on a counter?? And it was left there for a long time without being fed. I remember crying because I forgot about the baby and I had starved it.

It’s really weird to have these kinds of dreams (for me anyway) when I’ve never been pregnant. (I have PCOS)

But yea, I definitely think GIRL =)

  13. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on June 21, 2011 at 11:40 am

What a crazy dream! You have nothing to be worried about because you will be a great mother. I can’t wait to hear the gender and to see which predictions are accurate!

  14. Georgia on June 21, 2011 at 11:52 am

I dreamt I had already had my baby and didn’t want to tell anyone so i could get ALL the cuddle time! But when my husband came in I had to confess and show him the perfect little ETHIOPIAN bundle (we’re WHITTTTTEE). I had to lay the baby on my husband’s lap, with the baby on his tummy because… drum roll please…. The baby had the longest, silkiest black hair growing STRAIGHT out of it’s butt crack (like 12 inches y’all). And I thought it was beautiful! (yikes!) I remember thinking, how will I ever put a diaper on this baby!? But I didn’t seem concerned at all that the baby a.) had the butt hair and b.) was not the correct race. I just looooooved the baby!

Have you heard of gender reveal parties?

I’m working at my local newspaper this summer as an editorial intern, and I am currently working on an article about the phenomenon. When the time is right for the couple to find out the baby’s gender, the doctor taking the sonogram seals the results in an envelope and gives it to a baker of the couple’s choice. The baker opens the envelope, finds out the gender, and makes a cake based on the results of the sonogram: either the inside frosting or cake color is pink or blue, depending on the gender. The cake is completely frosted on the outside so that the gender is kept under wraps. (the baker is the first person besides the doctor to know the gender, btw!) The couple hosts a party with their family and friends, and they cut the cake to find out the gender! One of my co-workers recently had one, and he showed me his Facebook video of the reveal. SO COOL. very exciting! I’ve been talking with a woman who is having her gender reveal party this Saturday; she has the sonogram this Thursday. They are going all out with this party. It sounds incredible! I think it would be a fun way to celebrate the baby with family and friends.

ps. she had a dream that she’s having a girl too!

    • OntarioGirl on June 21, 2011 at 2:42 pm

i’ve heard of the cake but not the actual party! we may totally have to do that

I have pregnancy/baby-raising dreams all the time, they’re some of my most enjoyable dreams. I think it’s a combination of occupational hazard (when you work with or have worked with pregnant women/infants for years, it seeps into your subconscious) and my body telling me that it’s ready to have babies. I may not be quite ready, but it wants me to know it’s ready to rock when we are.

My pregnancy was FULL of crazy dreams and yes, full moon dreams are still common for me.

Pregnancy dreams that came true? Yes, I just *knew* I was having a girl, dreamt about it constantly and then when we found out that yes, we were having a girl, all those dreams made even more sense 🙂

  20. Carrie @ Confessions of a Dietitian on June 21, 2011 at 4:02 pm

    again, never been pg.

I have this recurring dream where I get pg. I know I’m pg, husband knows, I’m visibly pg…but we don’t discuss it. We just ignore it completely. I don’t go to the doctor until it is time to deliver. I go in, having labor pains with a big belly, and get ready to have this baby. And that is when the doctor tells me “um. you aren’t pg. You never were. You just got fat.” And then I’m really disappointed b/c I leave the hospital without a baby and yet having to lose all this weight!

All the time I have this dream! I think it is hilarious and random. I must be more worried about getting a huge belly than having a baby.

  21. Danielle on June 21, 2011 at 5:15 pm

I’m not knocking the acupuncturist , but as a physician I would like to know the science behind this whole unequal pulse thing. In normal healthy individuals, pulses are equal. Pulses that are unequal imply cardiovascular or circulatory problems. Also, what would gender have to do with the circulation in the body…especially your wrists? Good luck with your pregnancy, and I apologize for my skepticism.

    • Felicia (Natural + Balanced) on June 21, 2011 at 8:25 pm

Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine is pretty amazing stuff, and there are tons of books and information on pulse diagnosis and how qi flows through the body. Uneven pulses does not necessarily mean cardiovascular or circulatory problems. A lot can be confirmed about someones overall health and whats going on internally by feeling the pulse. Its more than just beats per minute, and that is the beauty of the medicine.

I’m so excited for you Gina! Either way, looking forward to hearing about the ultrasound when it happens 🙂

I had lots of baby dreams when I was pregnant. I always gave birth to a beautiful blonde baby girl. And before I knew it, my dream baby turned into a kitten. Everytime! I did have a beautiful baby girl who was quite blonde when she was very little, but she never turned into a kitten. Thank goodness.

  23. Lindsey @ SoundEats on June 21, 2011 at 7:24 pm

I can’t wait to find out either! I have a bet to win! 😉

I’m not pregnant, but several months back I had a VERY vivid dream about holding my baby for the first time. Sure, some details were off like in yours (I wasn’t still pregnant, but Ross had just left me and I could watch him out the window walk to Walmart). I just remember them placing the sweetest little baby girl in my arms and when I looked down at her for the first time it was like I had known her my whole life. In my dream I whispered the name, “Alexis Grace”. And that’s how we came up with the name of our future daughter. 🙂

  24. Katie on June 21, 2011 at 7:33 pm

I’m 22 weeks pregnant (with a little girl!), and had really vivid deams early in my pregnancy about the baby. I remember one in particular where I gave birth and even though I was full term I wasn’t ready. I panicked because I didn’t have anything for the baby and didn’t know how to use a car seat! In that dream, my baby was actually a boy. I had a gut feeling all along that she was a girl, but then I had multiple dreams about the baby being a boy…seeing how she was very cooperative with her ultrasound and we’re virtually certain that it’s a girl, I don’t know what that means that I dreamt she was a boy. 🙂

I’ve had a couple dreams where I’ve had a baby that I knew was mine, but only recently did I have my first ever BIRTH-dream in which I dreamed of the actual birth process. Needless to say, it was TERRIFYING!

I’m only 20, so I don’t have kids (and planning to keep it that way for awhile!), but while my mom was pregnant with me, she dreamed of having a daughter with a really high-pitched little-girl-type voice (she said she didn’t see the girl, just heard the voice), and she ended up with me: definitely a girl, and I had the squeakiest little voice ever when I was a kid! I’ll bet you have a sweet baby girl on the way 🙂

  27. chickster on June 22, 2011 at 1:13 am

Be thankful those crazy dreams only last 9 months! The side affects of my high BP meds are “abnormal dreams” (totally healthy; genetics/major accident related) and every few days I wake up thinking *OMG* Will you be having your baby in a military hospital, civilian hospital or civilian (aka normal) birth center? Just curious since I thought that might’ve played a role in your dreams.

  28. Debbie on June 22, 2011 at 12:08 pm

I have crazy dreams normally but when i was pregnant, they were much more intense…but weird thing is i never had dreams of the baby.

You should try the “pencil test”…if you google it, it will tell you how to do it. You hold a pencil on a string with a needle at the end…hold it over your wrist and it moves in a circle in one direction or another to say boy or girl…it will tell you how many children you will have or had and each sex…then it stops…so freaky! It worked with my girl and boy and with everyone that we tried it on! Fun to see if it is right.

    • Fitnessista on June 22, 2011 at 3:52 pm

my friend has done that with a needle before! she said for me it was 2 boys and a girl

  29. mary e on June 22, 2011 at 12:33 pm

i had scary, violent dreams in my first trimester which made everyone assume i was having a boy but “seemed more like a girl mom” (wtf???). EVERY SINGLE baby dream i had was about a little girl and i have FELT she was a girl from almost the beginning. may 19th confirmed my suspicions and we’re so excited to meet her in october!

  30. Becca on June 23, 2011 at 12:31 am

I had dreams both times (i have 2 kiddo’s) and my dreams were right on with both!

  31. April on June 25, 2011 at 4:38 pm

With my first, I dreamed about a baby but had NO clue if it was a boy or a girl…and I ended up having a boy. Second time around I dreamed I was having another boy and lo and behold, we had a girl. 😉

But my most VIVID pregnancy dreams were all–*AHEM*–sex-related, I must admit. Craziest dreams EVER. LOL

Alright, a few weeks ago a friend of mine dreampt that i was pregnant and gave birth to twins (she lives hours away and mostly communicate through email, she is pragnant). I dont think i am… menstral cycle cane a few days later than usual, should be rearing its head around the first of the month. I almost always feel sick to my stomach when i wake up (this has been years). Recently, my hips have been sore and my boobs for the past week have been also so tender. I just had a dream that i gave birth to a little girl, kinda small, felt weightless. Yhen.i was walking around and notices my baby on a bassinet on the porch. I went out, got her. Her.blanket fell down over her shoulders and she said, ‘im cold’, so i wrapped her and held her. It felt like i had always known id be a good mother, i felt a bond, i cradeled her. Then i called my best friend and told her that i had a baby, the ‘i didnt know ibwas pregnant’ way. Then it turned into a cute black puppy and started walking. Never been pregnant or had a scare. Uh, kinda confused. Help!
