Lead legs and pancakes

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday to ya 😀

The rest of yesterday was bueno and I actually had a disaster-free work night! Miraculous, I know 😀

Before leaving for work, I made myself an open-faced salad with some of the goodies I picked up at the health food store.

 002

Organic kale, leftover sushi veggies, raw rice, and kelp noodle dressing, topped with dulse

Good thing no one was here to watch me eat it. I folded up each leaf and ate it taco-style, with fillings and dressing going everywhere. Not a first date kinda meal, but it was definitely delicious 😀

Work was pretty bueno and I manned the dessert/pastry station like a champ. I didn’t cut myself (yes!) and got all of the orders plated and out pretty quickly if I say so myself 🙂 I’m finally starting to get into a groove over there.

Dinner was a Spice-C smoothie (we made this one in class and I fell in love instantly. Spicy smoothies are totally my thing)

004

Fresh blood orange juice, frozen pineapple, goji berries, cayenne, and lime juice

Then I came home, and had a sleepover with Michelle 😀

We woke up not-too-early this morning, determined to finally get our outside run in. For the first time in over a week, the sun was shining!! Too bad we rolled out of bed crying about our yoga aches and pains. Yoga yesterday was seriously evil. I feel sore in places that haven’t been sore in a loooong time, which is definitely a good thing but not so much when you’re trying to run.

I had half this Lara before leaving:

005

And we set out.

My legs felt like LEAD and it was the hardest 3.5 miles I’ve ever ran. We both decided to call it quits after that and go to bfast instead 😀

We hit up 105degrees because their bfast menu is seriously incredible.

I’m sorry if you guys are getting sick of pics from there, but I just can’t get enough!

I ordered the cocoberry milkshake

007

Wild Berries, Banana, Raw Coconut Butter, Peruvian Maca, Cacao Nibs

Aren’t the glass straws awesome???!!

And the wild blueberry pancakes

006

So. Freaking. Good.

I’m seriously getting spoiled here—what am I going to do when I don’t have access to all of this food in a couple of weeks?? Guess I’ll be going through withdrawals, or cooking a LOT. I have a feeling I’ll roll with the latter, especially since I know how to make all of this now 😀

I’m back at the hotel-casa, doing laundry and decided to whip out this bad johnny.

008

KOMBUCHA! Or as I prefer to call it, kom-blech-cha.

I really, really, want to like this stuff because it is good for you, but I have to acquire a taste for it. Hopefully it will happen soon- I have a couple of new flavors to try. I was feeling brave and opened the bottle, took a gulp and got a mouthful of bacteria strands. No joke, I had to chew it. Thanks kombucha, ya jerk. I’m still sipping along and at this pace, I might finish the bottle by Friday 😉

Hope you have a very happy Sunday!

xoxo,

G

The pancakes look incredible! How are they made?

It’s funny because I LOVE Kombucha but I can’t drink it because the carbonation really upsets my stomach and I get very sick. Wish we could trade places!

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2009 at 1:52 pm

i’m not sure of the exact recipe for the pancakes but i have a feeling they’re flax and banana based, and then dehydrated. they were super thin and absolutely delicious.
haha i wish we could trade places, too!

  4. Laura W on September 20, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I can’t get into Kombucha either! One time I got 3 or 4, thinking that I would def drink them b/c they’re so expensive, but NO… I could only take a few sips at a time!
Do you guys get a discount when you eat at 105? Oh, and another really random comment… I think it would be neat to see a guest post from the Pilot and puppies while you’re away!

    • Fitnessista on September 20, 2009 at 1:51 pm

      hey laura,
the pilot’s working on it 😀 we’ve been talking about it for a while but he’s been busy with work. it’s on the way though!
yes, i get a discount at 105 since i work in the cafe. even if i didn’t, i’d eat there just as much. it’s that good.

RAW pancakes?!? OMG there really is a ‘raw’ answer for every food out there!

  6. cjbrownsc on September 20, 2009 at 2:05 pm

105degrees looks like a totally cool restaurant! I am LUVVING the glass straws! I’m confused about dehydrating – does the food get harder the longer it’s in there?

  7. Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) on September 20, 2009 at 2:22 pm

I’m with ya on the spicy smoothies- I put a big hunk of ginger in mine some times and BOY there’s a kick!! Have a great sunday!

Girl….I just created apple/”carrot cake”/almond pancakes that I made in my dehydrator. Raw, vegan, delish. I am blogging them tomorrow. Anyway, those blueberrie ‘cakes look sooo good. Mine def. have more texture and are more hearty but it’s so great seeing all your great food, then it inspires me to even try harder in my own kitch 🙂

And yeah, sometimes after yoga the leggies are super sore…makes the next days’ run a little tricky, but hey, it just means you found some muscles you forgot about 🙂 I actually love it when that happens but I think I’m weird that way LOL

  10. K on September 20, 2009 at 2:49 pm

My theory is that the messier a meal is to eat, the better it tastes 🙂

Those pancakes look incredible!! Have a great Sunday!

I just recently tried Kombucha and HATED it!! I’m kind of glad because it is pricey. So, no worries about getting hooked on yet another expensive food/drink!

Just wondering what you’ve heard about Kamboocha and it’s health benefits. Everything I’ve heard/read can’t really be substantiated or backed up with any scientific evidence :o( (see Miz Fit and Summer Tomato)

  20. Holly B on September 20, 2009 at 7:23 pm

that was supposed to be a 🙁 face

  21. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on September 20, 2009 at 7:29 pm

You’re making me reallllly want a dehydrator!!!

  22. M on September 20, 2009 at 8:05 pm

Didnt realize the pancakes were raw until I saw someone’s comment – cool! Also you crack me up with the Kombucha comments. They were all the rage in the blogworld for awhile (haven’t seen them much lately..) but at one point it was like why am i drinking this?!

  23. Katie on September 20, 2009 at 8:49 pm

Those pancakes look fantastic. I can’t wait to see where you go with these recipes when you get home. Knowing you, you’ll find a way to make them even better! 🙂

  24. TonjaToi on September 20, 2009 at 11:19 pm

Gina ~ I made your calabacita’s for a dinner party last night. They were amazing. Two ladies even asked for the recipe – I’m sending them your link. I preparred everything earlier in the day and it was so quick and easy to make w/ out leaving my guests alone for long. Thank you for sharing!

  25. Krista on September 21, 2009 at 9:07 am

    That kombucha sounds gross. 😉

How do they keep the glass straws clean inside? Do you have to use a special brush to scrub down there?

  26. Tavolini on September 21, 2009 at 9:54 am

ugh–part of me wants to like kombucha–but I just can’t. Tastes like I’m drinking old vinegar. Blah–I’ll stick to wine as my fermented beverage of choice 😉

  27. Chelsa on September 21, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I agree with Kelly, the gingerade and the ginger berry are the only Kombucha flavors that I can stomach.

  28. Mary on September 21, 2009 at 5:21 pm

I had one of those strawberry Synergy kombuchas yesterday, too, and I loved every sip! It tastes like champagne to me. I think my first batch of homemade kombucha might be done today!

  29. Baroque Diva on September 21, 2009 at 11:13 pm

Guava Goddess is delish!!! It’s the only kombucha flavor I like, but I REALLY like it! 🙂 Give it a try, oh and btw… your posts are making me want to go spend too much money at a raw restaurant we have here in Boston!

  30. Katie on September 22, 2009 at 7:25 am

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has trouble choking down the kombucha 😉
