Leftover love

Before I start this post, I have to say that Livi crawled FORWARD today. I’m such a proud mama <3

The best part about having a beautiful meal cooked by others?

Leftovers.

Eating

(Please to excuse the crazy hair)

I came home from work on my lunch break and was so stoked to see some pasta and salad leftover from the night before. I LOVE leftovers. Mostly because I love any food that’s ready to grab and eat, but I think that food always tastes better the next day (except for fish). The Pilot isn’t the biggest leftover fan. He’ll eat them, but if given the choice he’ll make a sandwich or something else instead, so I try to plan our meals out so that we have enough for dinner and for me to have for lunch the next day. As far as leftovers in our family go, I always think “more for me.” Muahaha.

Took some more with me for after Zumba:

Leftovers

When I got home for lunch, the boys were about to leave with Livi to shop downtown, so it was just me. It was kind of lonely, so I just wrote a blog post (my favorite things to do with Livi), painted my nails and toes (!)

Nails

(I don’t wear my rings to teach or to the gym)

and headed back for Zumba. It was great, and I taught with one of my favorite girls, but we had a little mic snafu and the stereo cut out a few times. We kept dancing through, and while power issues can sometimes squash our mojo a little, it was an awesome class. I think of all the things that can go wrong in a fitness class, music probs are the WORST. I remember when I taught a step class in Valdosta with no mic and a boom box. Good times.

Got home, Meg, Kyle, the Pilot and Liv were chillin’, and the family brought back cake from Chuck E Cheese.

Cake

(for the record, they have glorious cake)

and shared that as an appetizer before decided on Renee’s for dinner.

Salad 10

I was in the mood for chicken caesar, and shared it with Meggie (they forgot to include her salad with her slice and salad).

Chefs in the kitchen once again, making the marinade for tonight’s feast.

Marinade

(I think they put like 8 different spices in there? It smells ridiculous)

Today was my day to sleep in (the Pilot and I take turns getting up with Liv on the weekends) so I feel refreshed and ready to tackle 4 miles! Wish me luck 🙂

Have a very happy Sunday! See ya later with a Family post and pics from the day.

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What is your biggest pet peeve in a group fitness class? Mine is horrible music. If I dislike the music and it’s a music-driven class, it’s hard for me to get into it. Are you a leftovers fan, or notsomuch?

Our household is just like yours when it comes to leftovers — my husbands doesn’t like them and I LOVE them!!

  2. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on July 22, 2012 at 12:26 pm

If you can believe this, I’ve never taught with a mic. I’ve become quite good at yelling in a non threatening tone 😉 Personally I hate it when the instructor is over encouraging (i.e. telling everyone they look great every three seconds) I find it borderline creepy

    I love your purple mac!

  3. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on July 22, 2012 at 12:32 pm

I am definitely a fan of leftovers! And you’re right they ALWAYS taste better the second day! The flavors are just more pronounced and melded together!

  4. Brittany on July 22, 2012 at 12:34 pm

Sounds like you guys had a full day. I have had a huge day and it is only 12:30 here! Congratulations on Liv crawling! That is such an important milestone! Here come the babyproofing! You should do a post on babyproofing your house. Soon walking will come! My niece just started walking and I cant believe she is so big now. Time sure does fly with a little one!

  5. Christine @ BookishlyB on July 22, 2012 at 12:34 pm

My biggest pet peeve is people who make obnoxious noises or make tons of comments during yoga. And I’m not a huge leftover fan unless it’s pizza, quinoa, or something involving puff pastry.

  6. Eva @ committed2nutrition on July 22, 2012 at 12:39 pm

My biggest pet peeve is when people are talking during the songs. I can hear it despite the music being turned up so loud. It drives me madd. I also hate bad music, too. If I am not into the song, I am not into the work-out. So I am with you on that one! I am not the biggest fan of left-overs…idk why, I guess because everyday I have no idea what I am in the mood for eating, and plus my day job buys us our lunch everyday 🙂

  7. Sana on July 22, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I hateee mic and stereo issues while teaching!

  8. Jules on July 22, 2012 at 12:57 pm

Love the purple case for the new mac! I have a pink one on my mine 🙂

  9. Anne on July 22, 2012 at 1:08 pm

I completely agree! I stoped going to spin class on Wednseday’s only because I did’nt like the instructors music!

    • Aiyekat on October 5, 2012 at 11:02 pm

I agree!! My other pet peeve is when spin instructors yell but the class feels as if it’s going no where!! Yelling does not make a workout challenging!!!!

  10. Natalie on July 22, 2012 at 1:15 pm

I agree, music can make or break a class! I took a pilates class the other day where there was one Sarah Mclachlan song on repeat for 45 minutes it was torture!

  11. mary @ what's cookin with mary on July 22, 2012 at 1:17 pm

I’m in 100% agreement. I have been going to the same Tues spin class for several years and recently my beloved instructor was unable to teach the class anymore. The new instructors music isn’t just bad… it was ruining my workout. No idea how she gets pumped up to Lionel Ritchie or the like.

Long story short, the staff at the front desk suggested I mention something to her politely (which I was going to do after class). I mentioned to a few other women that I see every week before class. One of the women brought it up right at the beginning of class in front of everyone. 🙁 🙁 ..it went really, really horribly.

  12. Averie @ Averie Cooks on July 22, 2012 at 1:36 pm

Marinade making is fun – I love getting creative with them.

Chuck E Cheese’s cake…good to know 🙂 Sometimes random places can pull out some great food.

And leftovers, yes! Never met a working mama who didn’t enjoy leftovers…such a time saver!

  13. Jackie on July 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm

I am not always a fan of leftovers. It just depends on the food…certain things just don’t re-heat well.

  14. TeriLyn [a foodie stays fit] on July 22, 2012 at 2:37 pm

totally agree bad music in group ex. and instructors who sing along to the music!! gah!

  15. Haley on July 22, 2012 at 2:40 pm

I loooove leftovers! I just had leftover Chipotle! SO tasty (:

  16. Natalia on July 22, 2012 at 2:42 pm

Gina, what nail lacquer did you use? looks very neat!!!

  17. Sam @ Better With Sprinkles on July 22, 2012 at 2:56 pm

I’m not a huge leftovers fan – but the boyfriend eats them for lunch everyday so they get eaten up. I’m more likely to go the salad or a sandwich route.

  18. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on July 22, 2012 at 3:08 pm

Congrats to Livi on the crawling!!! Such a big girl 🙂 I love leftovers and always try to plan to make a little extra to have on hand for the week! Music and mic problems are the worst! I teach group fitness too and always hate when the mic battery goes out…I’m not the loudest yeller! My Ipod went through a random phase too when it would randomly pause midway through a song! I started bringing a backup CD just in case from then on!

  19. Emily on July 22, 2012 at 3:31 pm

Leftovers are the best! They make life so simple.

My biggest pet peeves in group fitness classes are horrible music (of course!) and people who only stay for a few minutes and then walk out of the class. I don’t know why, that just irks me. Especially when I see the same people doing it over and over.

Oh, and I have the same purple Mac case! Love it. <3

  20. Lisa on July 22, 2012 at 3:37 pm

Awe. Yay for Livi crawling forward! That’s super exciting, I guess she’s getting ready for some firsts:)
I agree about leftovers, they always seem to taste better after they’ve “marinaded” for a day in the fridge.
Oh the music is definitely a win/lose for group classes. I also hate when people are super chatty and talk to their friends the whole time so others can’t hear the instructor. It drives me bananas.

  21. Kelster on July 22, 2012 at 3:44 pm

I love leftovers! I sometimes only cook once per week and it’s Leftovers City after that. I always worry about how I’d cope if I married someone who didn’t like leftovers. What on earth would he eat? haha. I guess this is why I need a significant other that can cook. I don’t want to cook everyday and he won’t join me in Leftovers City, he needs to do some cooking.

  22. OntarioGirl on July 22, 2012 at 3:47 pm

I love leftovers and agree most stuff tastes better the next day, especially pizza and any kind of pasta! My hubby is similar to the Pilot….he could leave them and make something else and be happy with that. More for me! 😉

  23. Michelle @ Eat Move Balance on July 22, 2012 at 3:49 pm

My biggest pet peeve in a group fitness class is when the instructor totally sings along with the music–like every word. I don’t mind a phrase here and there . . . but one time the instructor was singing the whole dang thing! It was a little much. 🙂

  24. melanie on July 22, 2012 at 3:56 pm

My biggest fitness class pet peeve is when it gets started late. A couple minutes is totally understandable, but when I have to wait 5-10 minutes for whatever reason, I start to get antsy! Especially if I haven’t warmed up before…I like to get a full 60 minutes in!

  25. kim@hungryhealthygirl on July 22, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Love your purple mac and matching purple iphone case! Thank goodness my husband and I both love leftovers….it takes the guess work out of what to eat for lunch the next day.

  26. Maddy on July 22, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Hooray for Livi! Like other commenters and you, I love leftovers, my husband not so much. My only pet peeve is if a sub comes to our class which is for all levels and she only does advanced moves. I also need good music. I have gotten spoiled by my Zumba teacher. She needs to be cloned.

  27. Melissa (Better Fit) on July 22, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Good luck with the miles! My biggest pet peeve in a fitness class is when no one will go to the front. Everyone seems to congregate at the back to hide, but it’s way better when everyone gets in there, works hard and has fun! And yes… absolutely love leftovers!

  28. Alycia on July 22, 2012 at 6:11 pm

Love the purple, it’s my favorite color. The hubby and I are on the same page as you and the pilot. I don’t mind them at all, but hubs def chooses something else!

  29. purelymichelle on July 22, 2012 at 6:23 pm

I just enjoyed leftovers from dinner last night tonight 😉 she made clean up easy!
love leftovers, many members of my family do not.

  30. Michaela on July 22, 2012 at 6:26 pm

music. music. music. oh, and instructors that are all quiet, not very motivating, and don´t challenge anyone.
I actually walked out of a class once bc I could not stand the music (and the instructor was NOT very good, either)…

  31. Nicole on July 22, 2012 at 6:37 pm

In body pump when people stand in front of the weight rack to assemble their bar. It’s a tight space and creates a bottleneck of other people trying to get to the weights. Just grab your weights and go people even if you have to make multiple trips! I’m always “this close” to saying something but chicken out.

  32. Tiffany on July 22, 2012 at 6:46 pm

We love leftovers at our house. Congrats on Livi crawling, our girl crawled at 6 months, 10 days and she is just about to start walking, eek.

  33. Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy on July 22, 2012 at 7:11 pm

chuck e cheese! oh man, those were the days:) and your salad looks fabulous!

  34. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 22, 2012 at 8:31 pm

It depends on the kind of leftovers. I love leftover chicken, grain/bean salads, and soups, but I don’t like anything that gets too mushy! Leftover lettuce salads and stir fries are gross. 😛

  35. Rachel @ Healthy Teacher on July 22, 2012 at 9:12 pm

My biggest pet peeve in a fitness class is an instructor who has a posse and only focuses on them. I have worked out for at least four days a week now for well over three years and done all sorts of classes, but I went to one the other week, and the instructor had a group of friends who went to all of her classes. If they used poor form or whatever she would quietly correct them. I was doing sit ups on a ball, and she kept telling me to slow down loudly…in front of 30 other people. Then, she laughed and said, “Oh it’s okay. You’re new.” I just thought it was rude. I also HATE it when there is not enough equipment or the “regulars” grab like four sets of dumbbells and leave newbies with nothing. In that same class I mentioned, I got there 15 minutes early, and I could only find one 15 lb dumbbell and one 3 lb. The instructor and her posse each had four sets and did not offer to share. Needless to say, I was not a fan of that class and will never go back. haha

  36. Maria on July 22, 2012 at 9:21 pm

I am still getting used to my new engagement ring and I was torn for so long if I should take it out to workout and teach my fitness classes. I may try not wearing it! But then I am an art student so I have to take it off for class or it gets dirty….haha

  37. kari on July 22, 2012 at 9:49 pm

I also don’t wear my ring when im training because i cannot stand rings on my fingers. I eat left overs too because i cannot waste food.

  38. Amy on July 22, 2012 at 11:46 pm

I can’t believe how many people dislike leftovers- EASY and delicious! I live for leftovers! I purposely make a meal that works out to be 6 servings, eat it for din sunday night and then for lunch all week. It’s the best, so easy that you don’t have to worry about having something healthy on hand last minute!

  39. @pluvk on July 22, 2012 at 11:47 pm

My biggest pet peeve would be someone walking in or walking out halfway through a class, and not being subtle about it! As for leftovers, I am all about that!!

  40. Kelly @ My Love Affair with Running on July 23, 2012 at 6:57 am

My pet peeve in a group fitness class is other participants who have no concept of ‘space’!

But that is me being fussy and annoying.. because for the most part I have no peeves about group fitness, I am totally hooked 😀

  41. Lauren T on July 23, 2012 at 11:16 am

I hate when the class is so packed you can’t really get fully into the workout because you have to worry about not whacking someone next to you while doing the moves. I do like classes with lots of people because there’s more energy, but there’s a point where it gets to be too many!

  42. Eucalya on July 23, 2012 at 12:56 pm

i also loooove leftovers (i think i love any kind of food…) xxx

  43. Jessi on July 23, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Yay for Liv – you must be so excited! I too love leftovers and hubby even more so. So I tend to cook double and we have the same thing for 2 days.

My pet peeve is instructors who tell you to keep going or push harder, but are lazy about the moves themselves. I feel like they are supposed to bring the energy to inspire the group, not the other way around.

  44. karen on July 23, 2012 at 5:51 pm

I love your bowl! Haha 🙂

Pet peeve: I think I agree Lauren T, too crowded/space too small.

    I enjoy most leftovers.

  45. Brittany on July 23, 2012 at 8:20 pm

I’m a huge fan of leftovers too. Especially when it comes to soup or veggies. I love cold roasted veggies. 🙂
