Like an Eraser

Hey guys! How are ya? Hope you’re having a fabulous morning. First, let’s get to the winner of the Pure Market Express giveaway:

Congrats, Kristina! Send me you info to fitnessista at gmail dot com so we can get your goodies on the way 😀

Last night after work, I came home to THIS:

rose

Swoon city, my friends 😀

The pilot and I had made dinner plans and after discovering that all of our favorite places are closed on Monday, we went to the Bistro, which is notorious for being overly salty and overpriced.

bistro

I drank club soda with a splash of cranberry:

While we were waiting for our appetizer, we took turns naming the funky art on the walls.

This is rose-headed boob grabber:

rose head

and Vertebrae Strike.

vertebrae strike

For an appetizer, we chose the sesame-crusted tuna, which was pretty tasty wasty.

So was the salad:

Our entrees, however, were pretty lackluster and terribly overcooked.

The pilot said his lamb was dry and chewy, and my salmon was likened to an eraser.

I munched the salmon edges, but couldn’t do any more.

salmon (2)

I did eat all of the veggies and ALL of the potatoes (the pilot was shocked- I’m not a potato fan), and I’m 100% certain the potatoes came out of a box. You don’t get that texture by mashing and whisking… you only get that texture by adding potato flakes to milk. I was so hungry and since the salmon was terrible, I just killed the veggies.

This morning’s bfast was a thousand times better.

chia

Overnight protein chia oats with:

-1/2 C oats

-1 C almond milk

-1 T chia seeds

-1 T brown rice protein

-1/2 sliced banana

-1 T almond butter

-1 T maca

cacao nibs

Amazing 😀

I’m off to pump some crazy iron, but I’ll see ya back here later today!

xoxo,

Gina

Oh, bummer – that’s too bad that food wasn’t good. At least you had a fabulous breakfast to make up for it! Have a great day, girl!

  2. Jessica @ How Sweet on July 13, 2010 at 9:51 am

That stinks that the salmon wasn’t that great! If it were up to my husband, he would probably cook boxed potatoes every night. Thank goodness he has me to save him.

  3. April on July 13, 2010 at 9:53 am

That sucks about your salmon 🙁

  4. Kat (Bubble Gum Gym Kat) on July 13, 2010 at 9:56 am

  6. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on July 13, 2010 at 10:01 am

I hate potatoes like that but I’ll be honest: I have a box in my cabinet. My husband thinks they’re the greatest thing.

  7. fittingbackin on July 13, 2010 at 10:02 am

Great leg workout! boo on the less than stellar food – that sucks. But YAY on the beautiful flowers!

  8. dotsie on July 13, 2010 at 10:06 am

Getting bad food at a restaurant is the worst! Bummer! At least you spent some QT w/ the Pilot, though!

  9. Rosey Rebecca on July 13, 2010 at 10:13 am

So sad I missed the giveaway! Oh well, congrats to Kristina! The flowers are beautiful. You are one lucky lady! It stinks that the restaurant was so expensive and the food was bad. If they are overcharging for food, they shouldn’t be serving boxed mashed potatoes, either. Hope you had a good night anyway!

  10. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on July 13, 2010 at 10:19 am

My Manfriend and I recently went on a romantic date and I ordered salmon and it was the SAME WAY! Ick ick! Like the “eraser” naming, btw 😉 Too funny!

Congrats to Kristina! And bummed I missed it! LOL

That’s the worst when you go out and the food is terrible. At least you had good company and entertaining art to look at! 🙂

  13. skinnyrunner on July 13, 2010 at 10:31 am

that seared ahi looks dang good. the rest of the meal from a box? not so much. did you complain? you should have!

  14. Rhea (Greek Feaster) on July 13, 2010 at 10:32 am

Pretty pretty flowers! My favorite part is the cute lil’ bag. You’ve trained him well 😀

  15. A Teenage Gourmet on July 13, 2010 at 10:50 am

Awww! 🙁 I love getting flowers! (I don’t know why that causes a frowny-face, but it does) You husband is so sweet.

  16. brittany on July 13, 2010 at 11:01 am

  19. Run Sarah on July 13, 2010 at 11:11 am

The flowers are so sweet! I forgot about wall squats – those are so tough! I need to incorporate those back into my leg routine.

  20. Emily on July 13, 2010 at 11:17 am

First time poster, and a huge fan of your blog! I gotta tell you, I did the leg workout from 2009 Summer Shape Up last Thursday, and couldn’t walk for 2 days–glorious! Thanks for the great ideas both on food and fitness; breakfast cookies are now a staple!

  21. Krystina on July 13, 2010 at 11:35 am

I’m going to do your leg work out today 😀

  22. Mo@MommyRD on July 13, 2010 at 11:47 am

Bummer about the food on your dinner date. I’ve noticed you’re drinking club soda cocktails lately instead of vino…could there be a bun in the fitnessista oven? 🙂

  23. Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine on July 13, 2010 at 11:52 am

what a bummer! I hate it when the meat at restaurants doesn’t come out well even if I specify how I’d like it made. Glad your breakfast was yummier!

  24. Lily on July 13, 2010 at 12:01 pm

It stinks to pay for a lackluster meal at a swanky restaurant. Did you and the pilot think about letting your server know how poorly the food was prepared? I know a lot of people are either embarassed or don’t want to make waves, but I have worked in fine dining for several years, and trust me: the chef wants to know if your food goes out wrong!! Plus, the restaurant might comp your meal or at least offer a free dessert…I would strongly urge you to speak up next time, at any restaurant–maybe you’ll save another diner from a disaster meal as well.

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2010 at 12:15 pm

usually we would complain but last night, we didn’t. should have, though… i can think of a lot of better things to do with the money we spent 🙂

  25. Shanna on July 13, 2010 at 12:03 pm

When I go out to eat, I have an expectation that it will be better than home. And sometimes, well, it just doesn’t happen! Better luck next time 🙂

  26. Kristina on July 13, 2010 at 12:07 pm

    YAAAY 🙂 🙂

beautiful flowers… always a nice surprise… and probably made up for lack of decent dinner (the tuna sounds amazing and LOOKS beautiful!)

looks like a great leg workout … I think I’ll try it today 🙂

    have a fabulous day!

  27. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on July 13, 2010 at 12:16 pm

Gorgeous roses from the pilot! Plus, what a cute little pink purse on the card! I’m sure that more than makes up for a less-than-stellar dinner. 🙂

  28. brittney on July 13, 2010 at 12:16 pm

Apropos of nothing: I AM GOING TO MY FIRST EVER ZUMBA CLASS in under two hours. So stoked!!

    • Fitnessista on July 13, 2010 at 12:19 pm

you have to let me know what you think!! have fun!

      • brittney on July 13, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Okay, that was intense. What a great workout! So much fun.

After class I stopped for an iced coffee and the barista thought I was crying because my face was so red and wet. Haha.

        • Fitnessista on July 13, 2010 at 4:15 pm

hahah AWESOME 🙂 so glad you liked it! <3

  29. Kris | iheartwellness.com on July 13, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Congrats Kristina!!! I just love her!!

I am sorry to hear your dinner was stinky 🙁 You are one lucky lady to have a man like the Pilot 😉

    Have a great day!

  30. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on July 13, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Sad to hear dinner was such a bust 🙁 At least you had good company! Loved how you guys were naming the paintings. Too funny!

  31. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on July 13, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Ugh, I hate when “nice” places have sub-par food. Such a waste. Pretty flowers though- I love that the pilot still surprises you!

  32. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 13, 2010 at 1:13 pm

That’s so disappointing about your meal. There is nothing worse than overcooked salmon!

Those flowers are beautiful though. That’s so thoughtful of the Pilot! 🙂

  33. Sandra on July 13, 2010 at 1:18 pm

I vote for a guest post by the pilot on “how to make your wife or gf swoon”. I’d print it for my bf in a heartbeat 🙂 At least the company made up for the meal.

  34. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 13, 2010 at 1:55 pm

Oh girl…so sorry about the rotten dining experience!! Bleah!!! I hate it when things like that happen; the time, money, planning, and precious moments with hubs just kinda go down the drain a bit when the food sucks.

But the roses…beautiful 🙂 Just like you and I know you deserved them and hopefully they brightened your world a bit!

That wall hanging…it’s a picture of a cross between pincha mayurasana (peacock) and Scorpion Pose…two of my FAVE poses ever! I love opening my heart center and back like that..makes me feel so ALIVE!

    Keep me posted 🙂
    xoxo

  35. Alycia @ Fit n Fresh on July 13, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Sorry to hear about your sucky food, babe! But at least you and the pilot had a good time (:

  36. Kelly on July 13, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Ug. I hate paying for a nice meal and getting basically crap. At least your flowers were pretty and the company was nice. 🙂

  37. Beth @ bethcooks on July 13, 2010 at 2:28 pm

Well, at least you got flowers to balance out the terrible meal 🙂
Those potatoes were definitely flakes- all the more reason that I like a little texture in mine!

  38. Laury @ thefitnesdish on July 13, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Pretty Flowers!!! That stinks about the din…I hate when you go out to an overpriced meal & it’s inedible 🙁

Yuck to potato flakes…that’s unacceptable in a restaurant!!!

  39. Ellen@FirednFabulous on July 13, 2010 at 2:56 pm

That sux that you didn’t love your meal, but it’s so cute that you and the pilot still had fun! (Love the artwork names.) I need to remember this post the next time I feel the need to clean my plate, even though I don’t love the dish! It’ll just leave more room for yummy oats, which are ALWAYS satisfying 🙂

  40. Sarah Anne on July 13, 2010 at 3:20 pm

Oh that’s one of my biggest pet peeves! I freaking love food so much, that I absolutely HATE paying for a meal that stinks so badly. If something’s off, potatoes overdone, or the salad’s not the best – I’ll make do and will still try the restaurant again. Everyone has off days/nights. However when something is so dreadful, you can’t even eat the bulk of your meal, UGH! Like you said, I can think of SOooo many ways that cash is better spent! So sorry you had a stinky meal, but glad you had great company 😉

Sounds like a lovely night despite food dramas. 🙁

  41. Angela on July 13, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Such a sweet date night, it stinks that your entrees weren’t good! Jeff and I have had our share of bad experiences (that’s why I’m now an obsessive yelp review reader). But at least it wasn’t a total bust.

Love the workout. Might give it a try tonight if time allows (I might have to make it allow :))

  42. Rebecca @ How the Cookies Crumble on July 13, 2010 at 4:21 pm
