As you guys know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month– today, a lot of people in Orlando are wearing pink to show their support.

I never thought I’d write about this in detail on the bloggy before, but breast health is something I had an issue with a few years ago. One night, while doing the routine check thang, I found a small lump on the right side. Immediately, I feared the worst. It took quite a few tests and a full biopsy to discover what is was, but the entire process ended up being the longest, most scary and stressful month of my life. I’m very, very blessed and thankful that it was benign, removed, and ended up being something I could forget about. So please remember to check your ta-tas and get a mammogram when you’re supposed to <3 Even if you ever find something weird, it could be nothing, but it’s so important to be aware of our bodies.

What’s your favorite word for boobies? (Keep it clean, mmm k?)

xoxo,

Gina

Gina thank you for sharing that with everyone! Wow, I can only imagine how a situation like that would feel! I’m glad you are ok 🙂

  4. Leanne @ Simplicitlee on October 15, 2010 at 5:25 pm

    I prefer ta-ta’s! Feminine & fun! 😉 I also like thelma & louise! Hahaha!

I’m trying to make people aware of breast cancer awareness month too! It’s so important for us ladies to be our own health advocates! We need to make sure we know whats going on with our bodies & tell our doctors if we notice any changes.

  6. Kelly F. on October 15, 2010 at 5:43 pm

    just boobs I guess 🙂

I also had a lump scare just recently, and they still haven’t completely figured out what it is, but it is definitely a scary time so I know what you went through.

    “The blessed set”

  12. Paige on October 15, 2010 at 6:31 pm

I kind of had the same thing happen to me as well – when I was 20! I’m only 23 now, but that was really scary for me. It ended up being fine, but getting your tots checked out is way important at any age. I think younger women take it for granted that it’s just something that happens to “older” people.

My favorite slang terms are: tots, chesticles, and lady lumps. 😀

hee… I had a friend in college who, when he’d see a low cut shirt or just showing TOO MUCH, he’d always say

“I’d Like Two Pickets To Titsburg, Please”

…I still think of that when I see a low – cut shirt. 😉

My dad always cracked me up when he called them ‘bazooms’, or ‘zoomers’ for short.

Thanks for this reminder and for your openness about this. My aunt was just diagnosed last year and it has become something very close to our family.

I wish mine were even big enough to name. LoL, but they would qualify more like “bug bites.” 🙁 Haha, but I’m still proud!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2010 at 9:38 pm

      right on- own them! 🙂
thinking about your aunt and sending prayers <3

I prefer ta-ta’s, or ‘the girls’, but a bunch of my guy friends call them the “gadonk-gadonks”… not gonna lie, it made me laugh to just type that!

  20. Kelly on October 15, 2010 at 8:27 pm

    The girls 🙂

  21. Krystina (Organically Me) on October 15, 2010 at 8:33 pm

I’m glad everything is fine with your ta-tas! 🙂

I’m boring, I think my favorite word is boobies.

  22. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on October 15, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Probably just boobs. It depends who I’m talking to though..sometimes I use other words depending on who’s listening 🙂

Your scare…thank god you’re ok. I have had a scare too. It was awful and I went thru much of what you did. My child was a year old and nursing and I was 31. Yeah, just what every new mom fears the most…dying of cancer with a new baby. Truly that scare was a huge reminder to put life in perspective..and to keep up with routine screenings, forever!!

    🙂

  23. Krista on October 15, 2010 at 9:01 pm

I’ve always called them “the girls”! 🙂

  24. Sarah on October 15, 2010 at 9:11 pm

I went through the exact same experience 4 years ago – glad you’re okay too! 🙂

    Hi Gina,
I love your blog (although this is the first time I’ve commented!!). Breast cancer is a very important issue, and I think you’ll find this article in the new york times very interesting: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/11/pink-ribbon-fatigue/?scp=1&sq=breast%20cancer&st=cse
“pink ribbon fatigue.” It’s about how there is so much “awareness” of breast cancer but little moving forward. It also brings up the conflicts of interest between breast cancer charities and the heavy funding by the pharmaceutical industries who make breast cancer drugs (i.e., it’s in their interest to keep women buying their product). One thing that the article didn’t delve into, but is worth knowing, is that many of the pharmaceutical companies have two arms: one that makes drugs for humans, and another that makes antibiotics for animals (which raises bacterial resistance) and pesticides for agriculture (many of which are carcinogenic). It’s a vicious cycle of the corporation making a profit on pesticides which cause cancer and then again making a profit when people develop cancer and are thus treated with their drugs.

I’m not trying to knock, in ANY way, the amazing work you’ve done. This blog is an inspiration and you makes so many women healthier the RIGHT way. Keep up the good work! -Claire

That would be such a scary experience. I’m glad it turned out to be nothing though! 🙂

For some reason this post made me think of that scene in Bend it like Beckham where the dressmaker says “Our designs will make even these little mosquito bites look like juicy, juicy mangoes!” LOL!
