March check-in

Thank you so much for your awesome feedback on my last post– I always love to hear your thoughts and experiences. It’s critical to remember that with everything in life (including cardio, weights, working out), it’s about finding a balance and method that works best for you <3

Now, can we all just take a little interlude for the Friday dance?

Or how about the Wildcat WIN dance?!

Not the biggest sports fanatic, but man oh man, I love me some Wildcats basketball. I even filled out a bracket…. we’ll see how the rest of the season goes.

Bracket 1 of 1

It’s been a strange week since we got back in town Tuesday night, the Pilot had a flight the next day, and I started my work week.

Our fridge is still looking a little bare and sad,

Salad stuff 1 of 1

but I did pick up a few essentials to get us through the next few days.

“Essentials” 😉

Popcorn 1 of 1 3

(I have no words)

We’ve been enjoying lots of juices along with Oliv, who sits in her high chair and says “Juice? Juice? Please? Juice?”

while I wash, chop and liquify the produce.

Juice 1 of 1 6

The protein balls were all for me though 😉

Along with the March Madness -I can’t believe the month is almost over!- how’s your #makeithappen March going? What goals did you set for the month? What were/are you looking forward to? You have about 10 days left to make them happen!

I had a few small goals set up (strength train more, commit to more study sessions), and happily accomplished them, but I was most looking forward to spending time with our family on a little getaway. Even in a few frantic moments the past couple of days, the vision of Liv chasing a seagull holding a tube of sunscreen brought a quick smile to my face.

I’d say “poor seagull,” but he kept coming back for more. I think he liked it.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Anything fun planned? We have Family Friday at the squadron this afternoon, and a fun night planned with friends.

See ya later!

xoxo

I love that Liv loves the juice! I hope when I have kids, they’ll enjoy juices as much as Liv.

My goal was more greens! And I’ve had greens at least once a day, so that’s going well.

    Have a great weekend!

That is amazing that Liv loves green juice. I hear so many of my friends, who are parents, talk about how their kids refuse to eat their fruits and vegetables. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because of the parents attitude towards eating their own fruits and vegetables? Of course, I don’t know (as I have no children) but it certainly seems like your enthusiasm for greens is being based on!

I think you are right. Most kids eat what their parents give them. I had to send my daughter to my sister-in-laws once a week to eat fish. I HATE it but wanted her to love it. IT WORKED.

The picture of Liv chasing the seagull is priceless. Nothing exciting this weekend, just work, grocery shopping and prepping meals and writing workouts. Have a great weekend.

that bird looks almost as tall as she is!

my goal was more workouts, and i’ve succeeded…but what i need for april is a little-to-no processed foods goal..

  5. Bethany on March 22, 2013 at 10:40 am

That Bob Harper workout looks great, but can I just ask what is up with his mid-calf black socks?? I guess since it’s Bob… it’s ok?

  6. Emily on March 22, 2013 at 10:41 am

Chocolate peanut butter anything is justified as essential in my book 😉 Hope you have a great weekend!

  7. Lisa on March 22, 2013 at 10:41 am

That juice looks fantastic, now I’m craving some.
Ha, the bird looks as big as she is. Birds freak me out a tad.
I’ve definitely been working on getting in more greens after going through a bunch of stomach issues, thankfully I’m rather good at getting them in.
    Happy lFriday!

Hey Gina! I recently got a green juice from a juice bar here in Charlotte after seeing it a few times on your blog. I loved it but I can see it becoming an expensive habit so I’ve been thinking about investing in a juicer. I’d love for you to share some of your go-to juice recipes some time! Sorry if you’ve already done that kind of post and I missed it. 🙂

I need to try this peanut butter kettle corn!! It sounds heavenly.

  10. Heidi on March 22, 2013 at 11:10 am

I am seriously jealous of that popcorn- it looks life changing!!

My goal was to run strong and it is going well!! Marathon training is in full swing! 😉

  11. Lucie@fitswisschick on March 22, 2013 at 11:11 am

My goal in March was to eat cleaner and cutting back on workouts! I am overdoing it big time – it’s hard but I do my best!
I absolutely love the pic of Liv chasing the seagull!

  12. Jen on March 22, 2013 at 11:32 am

I love that Liv loves green juice! She is such a mini-fitnessista.

  13. Christina on March 22, 2013 at 11:48 am

I am so not a sports fan but I love the craziness of March Madness and always participate. I may not know much about the teams but I always fill out a bracket and cheer on my team (Louisville) like crazy! Somewhat like the Derby. I know nothing about horses but whatever name a pull out of the draw is the name I will be screaming and cheering for during the race.

    Go Louisville!

That’s so great your daughter loves juices so much! But I have a question – I read somewhere that it isn’t good to feed young children at developing ages a lot of fresh juice because of its high potency of vitamins/nutrients. I read that their bodies get use to the high levels of the vitamins/nutrients, that when they stop drinking juice for a while, their bodies will develop a nutrient deficiency since it’s use to the such high levels found in the fresh juice. And by fresh juice I mean fruits/veggies through the juicer (not just fresh OJ). Just curious on your thoughts; I have no idea if there is any truth to this or what doctors say, so I figured I’d ask!!!

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2013 at 7:22 pm

she drinks a very small amount at home. i pour it in a tiny glass for her or a zippy cup- maybe 4 oz? at whole foods, i have no control over how much she drinks because she’s in the babyhawk slurping it out of my cup 😉
i talked to the pediatrician about it a while ago and she was just excited that liv loves fresh juice, veggies and fruit so much. i think as long as it’s not in excess, like anything else, it’s nbd

      • jodi on March 22, 2013 at 9:25 pm

Oh, that’s good to know! I guess you’re right – in the small quantities she drinks it seems ok, and if the pediatrician ok’s it then it’s all good! I do think that it’s awesome she loves the juices. A nice boost to her everyday foods and something fun you can share together… 🙂

My main goals for this month were to just keep working out somewhat consistently after WSU. I tend to workout in waves: on for a few months and then completely off and I hate that! So I guess my goal was consistency. I feel like I have been doing ok but I would like to really focus on my workouts these last 10 days.
Ohmygosh I think I’m going to have to make a special trip just for that popcorn today. I let my little guy have juice when I make it too but he generally only takes several sips, not a whole glass or anything. I figure its an easy way for him to get veggies into his diet.

  16. Kimberly on March 22, 2013 at 1:54 pm

ok, the sports nut in me is coming out….you have KY beating Kansas in the first round and UNC in the second & then you have Kansas going against VCU? haha! Beaing a Kansas Jayhawk, it’s good to see you have them in the final four, but since I’m biased, they are going to beat Arizona 🙂

The pics of Liv are adorable!

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2013 at 3:14 pm

      hahah oops!!!
      thank you 🙂

      • Fitnessista on March 22, 2013 at 6:43 pm

oh i just went back to check it- one is kansas st., the other is kansas 🙂

  17. Jamie on March 22, 2013 at 3:11 pm

Are you sure that’s the right NCAA bracket? From the pic, it looks like it’s set up with south v. west and east v. midwest, when I think it should be midwest v. west and south v. east. But maybe I’m reading it wrong?!

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2013 at 3:14 pm

i printed it from the website. i’m not sure how correct my guesses are though haha

  18. Ashley on March 22, 2013 at 5:04 pm

I can’t believe how fast 2013 is flying by and it’s already the end of march, but Syracuse losing to UNLV in your bracket?? Come on.

  19. Donny on March 22, 2013 at 5:22 pm

Talk about March going by fast, you just reminded me the NCAA tournament was going on! How on earth did I forget! I guess it is all these people obsessed with soccer around here (S. America) that they never have real sports on the TV :).

  20. Leslie Fisher on March 22, 2013 at 6:21 pm

Liv has good running form! 🙂

  21. Miranda @ Miranda Runs on March 22, 2013 at 7:03 pm

I filled out a bracket too! Gonzaga pride! 😉

  22. Catherine on March 22, 2013 at 7:14 pm

I would love your juice recipe – it looks wonderfully refreshing. I’m a longtime juicer but always sort of choke my way to the bottom of the glass. I think I blend too many things together that have no business in the same glass.

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2013 at 7:20 pm

that was 2 green apples, 1/2 large cucumber, handful of spinach and 1/4 lemon

  23. Vesna Fit Missy on March 22, 2013 at 7:58 pm

I love juicing! Great post Gina!

  24. Dynamics on March 22, 2013 at 8:00 pm

Is there a reason why you are not giving Liv a smoothie? Or did I miss it? I love using the pulp to make crackers in the dehydrator. Do you have a favorite recipe you would like to share. I really miss not being able to eat my wheat thins and I am always looking for new recipes to get some crunch in my diet.

  25. Melissa on March 22, 2013 at 9:43 pm

I use those Talenti jars for storage sometimes too, and my roommates all make fun of me. So thanks for the validation Gina!

    • Fitnessista on March 22, 2013 at 11:17 pm

hahah no problem 😉 they’re awesome reusable containers!

  26. Andrew on March 23, 2013 at 12:43 pm

Hi Fitnessista, This is my first visit to your blog and I noticed that there are only women commenting. I thought your post was interesting enough to read it all the way through and I don’t mind at all being surrounded by women, LOL. I will be stopping by again from time to time to see what’s new on your blog. Thanks for all the great photo’s.

  27. Tracy on March 23, 2013 at 3:19 pm

My goal for March and the next 12 weeks is to lift more weights. March Madness has taken over my home!! LOL.
I really want to get a juicer. Do you recommend the Jack LaLanne for someone who has never juiced before?

  28. Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian on March 23, 2013 at 3:48 pm

That looks like a gigantic seagull! I set a goal for March to lose a few pounds, but I’m not doing very well in that department. I’m not sure why the weight isn’t coming off, but I’m going to keep trying!

  29. Ali on March 24, 2013 at 12:29 am

Love this! Especially the juice, I have been indulging myself! Your little one is just too much!!

  30. Courtney @ Star Systemz on March 24, 2013 at 2:41 am

I have been on the biggest popcorn kick lately not sure what it is! Peanut butter kettle corn, girl you got me hunting for that now! Your daughter is so precious I cant wait to have a little one :-). Love + shine courtstar
