Meg: On-the-go mani

Hi friends! I’m embarrassed to say I’ve been walking around all week with a hideously chipped pink manicure. My unsightly nails were driving me crazy, and I knew I had to do something about it.

There was only one problem: I haven’t had ANY free time this week due to friends and family being in town for the Labor Day weekend, along with working a full work week.

Thinking on my toes, I made a pit stop into target on the way to work today. I grabbed a new polish, Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos (their polish names are so clever), and frantically searched for the nail polish remover.

Looking at the huge bottles of smelly remover, I figured there was NO WAY a mani would happen since I doubt my boss would appreciate me infecting our office with acetone. Just as I was about to give up, I spotted a box of on-the-go, Target brand nail polish remover pads. HALLELUJAH. Maybe I have been living under a rock but I never knew these even existed!

The pads are individually wrapped and are nearly scentless. It took maybe 2 minutes to strip my nails of their polish. I highly recommend these! They would be perfect on vacations for a quick polish change, and you wouldn’t risk a bottle leaking all over your suitcase. Clearly I give this new find two thumbs way, way up.

I keep a nail file/cleaner in my purse always, which came in handy. A quick polish removal, nail shape, and 3 coats later…

Without skipping a beat, my nails are beautiful again! You gotta love Essie!

Before I go, here are some Essie colors I am DYING to get for fall:

Do you have any polish faves I should know about?

Such a great color! What’s the name of that one?

    • Amy on September 3, 2012 at 4:22 pm

It looks like Turquoise & caicos.

I use Graham Professionals “HandsDown Ultra” cosmetic pads…they are AMAZING and take off glitter polish no problem and I only need ONE for all my nails 🙂

How do you get your Essie Manicures from smudging??? Everytime I use it it takes FOREVER (read 15+ minutes) to feel semi-dry and smudges :((

I love Essie, but I don’t like paying that $$ for something that smudges all the time.

Kaitlyn! I have that same problem! I even tried to do a clear topcoat and it still smudges! I stopped buying Essie too, for that reason, and stick with the 60 second to dry kinds.

So weird, I’ve never had that problem!!

I’m glad to know I’m not alone in this! I just don’t get it!!

I usually run my nails under the faucet (on cold) for a minute or two and then they are nearly dry! I typically use the Essie brand and with this method manage to keep my nails smudge proof.

Ooh I love the turquoise but that topless and barefoot is definitely a fall must have! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m wearing Turquoise and Caicos right now! obsessed! I also sprinkled some purplish-and-turquoise glitter on them before they dried, so they have some pretty sparkle to them. I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my nails before!

I just bought Butter London foundation and top coat. Expensive polish but it is beautiful, on day 3 of no chips. I love the neutral mani, I can go longer between touch ups.

Love this color! Our store was out when I went today, but I need some soon. I have several essie colors I love.

I have never seen those nail polish remover pads. I need to get some, how convenient. I bought Trophy Wife the other day and love it. I’m curious about the topless and barefoot too.

Ooh, I love the color… and nail polish remover PADS?! How convenient!!!

I love that nail polish color you have! I’ve tried to get it, but it’s sold out everywhere 🙁

    • Meg on September 3, 2012 at 10:17 pm

      Hopefully it’ll be restocked soon!

My toes are bad. I have to paint them again soon.

I have been seeing Essie but never tried it. I like the way it came out on your nails, I think I might give it a try! Oh and thank you for showing those polish remover pads! Amazing! How did we survive before them?

I love the look of Good As Gold. I’ve been wearing Nails Inc Saville Row lately.

I love nail polisher remover pads as I always seem to pick the bottle that leaks 🙁

My fave polish brands are opi and orly. They’re more expensive but to me Essie is super watery or something it always takes me like 5 coats to get rid of the streaky ness. I’ve been trying to grow my nails out and I think it’s contributing to my nails getting chipped so easily?? I just like the look of longer nails cuz I have really short fingers !

    • Jill on September 4, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Agree. I have a couple of Essie polishes because the colours are so beautiful, but something about the formula just isn’t great, especially for saturated or dark colours. I also really don’t like the brush — it’s so skinny and the bristles are hard so the polish gets streaky.

      • Britt on September 5, 2012 at 8:28 pm

        Yes so annoying !!

  15. Christen on September 5, 2012 at 11:37 am

I’ve never tried the Essie polishes. I just picked up one from a Sally’s Beauty Salon that looks really similar… I call it my “breakfast at tiffany’s” polish because it looks like the color of a tiffany’s jewelry box 🙂 I will look at that line though, and those polish removing cloths!

I’m kind of a nail polish addict. I found a salon supply store that randomly gave me a membership, so I get crazy discounts on salon polish now. I’ve definitely taken advantage!

My favourites are China Glaze, Sparitual (stays on forever..no bad toluene) and OPI. I just got a set of NYC ballet minis from OPI and a beautiful deep grapey color from sparitual called solitude. Oh and a dark matte gray from OPI called recycle.

I’ve loved the bright crazy colours for summer, but I’m excited for the rich colours of fall!
