Meg: What’s in my bag?

I spent my last day off this week cleaning up my embarrassingly messy room. In the process, I realized I had three different handbags full of…junk. I decided it was time to dump the junk and get organized! I think the easiest way to stay clutter free is to limit how often you switch handbags. My bag for this week will be my new-to-me thrifted white bag.

I found this bag at a local thrift store and paid $5 for it. I love it because it is a great size and has the perfect touch of vintage flare. Most of my bags, in fact, have been thrifted including two vintage coach bags and a vintage Dooney & Bourke.

To keep my fancy new bag organized, I am being much more reasonable about what I put into it.

What you see in my bag:

My favorite Nordstrom Last Chance find: black Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet.

Hair ties

A wedding checklist!

Betsey Johnson sunglasses from Ross

Royal Apothic roller ball perfume in Bombay Vanilla

A Mirror (that just happens to be shaped like a kitty)

Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain in Honey

Blistex Revive and Restore duo

Jouer lip gloss sample

Five Gum

Iphone, of course 🙂

How do you keep your bag organized, and what are your handbag essentials?

Love that bag! I definitely need to take advantage of thrift shops for vintage bags.

Wow, you look so much like Zooey D in the bottom picture it’s insane. As far and handbag organization- I have no tips except don’t buy the Michael Kors Hamilton tote, I bought it and loved it because of how big it is and subsequently have made it home to WAY too many things.

I was thinking she looked like Zooey too!

Meg; I can’t believe that’s all you carry in your bag, and you look awesome that red dress! This post is a win, win. Thanks for your advice; so practical.

Is it just me, or does your bag get larger and fuller with age?
I have a pretty mirror, lipsticks (2), lipglosses (2), SPF lip stuff (2), my business cards in a Betty Boop card holder, other people’s business cards kind of all over the place, gum & mints, badge I have to wear at work on a lanyard, cell phone, sunglasses in Vera Bradley case, lots of coupons, small journal, pens, pads (and soon tampons but not this week), sometimes an umbrella, too many keys, my wallet with 5 receipts popping out, a memory stick, hand lotion and a SCAD university booklet I have to give to a friend. Oh, and a bracelet that broke the other day. If I’m lucky I’ll find a hair tie down in there too.

Wow, great picture! I agree that you really do look like Zooey Deschanel, which is definitely a good thing 🙂 Very glamorous!

    Zooey Deschanel look-a-like!

    Love this post.

I have a little bag-organizer that I switch from purse to purse (http://www.tintamar.com/very-intelligent-pocket/vip/vip-one.html) and love it.
It’s big enough to hold the essentials (mirror, gloss, sunglasses, mini perfume, gum, floss, wallet, phone, pen) but small enough to fit all my purses, and eliminates the problem of hoarding tons of stuff in different purses.

Forgive me if this is a silly question, I’m a new Fitnessista reader, but does Meg have her own blog somewhere? I love her style, and I’m planning a wedding too so I’d love to read about hers.

@Meg: I want to go shopping with you!! I never find good stuff when thrifting! 🙁

Where did you get the dress? It’s so cute!

  15. Kim on September 7, 2012 at 10:23 am

I love that wallet! And those shades! I’m pretty much the worst person in the world when it comes to bags. I’m just not that into purses…I usually buy one nice bag and wear it exclusively for like 2 years. So boring!

You look gorgeous; LOVE the bangs on you!

  17. Yvette on September 7, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Gorgeous gorgeous. Red is your color.

How do you make it without a pen and paper? I also need reading glasses (you’re fortunately too young!), dental hygiene stuff like floss and the Wisp — which I love, my epipen in case someone slips me some crab ;), iPod, kleenex, work keys, personal keys and a ring just for all of the yucky membership cards from all the stores that don’t give you the sale price unless you have one. Whew!

Does Meg have her own website? Love all her posts!

  19. Carrie on September 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm

LOVE that dress. Please tell me it’s not a thrift and I can buy one.

  20. Julie on September 8, 2012 at 12:45 pm

I love this and am so inspired that I did my own! I have a lot more in my bag than I realized.

I have to hop on the Zooey bandwagon. You look SO much like her in this pic – it is completely insane.

I’m a simple girl: phone, keys, wallet, pen, and post-it pad.
