Mental health day

I think it’s pretty apparent from reading the blog that the Pilot works a lot, and works extremely hard. Even when he’s home on the weekends, he’s been working on house stuff (lots of master bedroom, office and nursery furniture assembly lately) since we moved in. He had a couple of extra days off work this week for the holidays, and with most of the important house stuff taken care of, he felt like he could finally take a day sans chores and relax a little bit.

The only time he left the house was to take Bell to the park with me

bell

(she LOVES sprinting back and forth with the big dogs)

and the only flying he did today was with his stocking stuffer: a remote control helicopter.

He’s been flying it around the house –Bella is not a fan- and even though we have very high ceilings, it was fun to watch him max it out outside.

I’m glad he finally had a day to relax all day- after a few mental health days, I think he’ll be feeling pretty good <3

This morning, after the gym I went to La Encantada to check out the after-Christmas sales. The stores were TRASHED by the time I got there, but it was fun to walk around and window shop.

Lunch:

toast

2 pieces of toast with goat cheese, sundried tomatoes, arugula and balsamic

2 clementines

and a GF sugar cookie snowman that was staring at me, so I ate him 😉

We’re grilling pizza for dinner tonight and going to watch a movie.

See ya in the morning with a Reader’s Request!

xoxo

Today’s workout jam: DJ Earworm United State of Pop 2011 Mashup. I loved last year’s and was so excited to see that this year’s was out

Something to talk about: When was the last time you took a mental health day to relax, sans chores or work obligations? I’m fortunate to be working part-time as a fitness instructor, so I have flexibility in my schedule that gives me periods of rest between teaching all day (well, for at least for the next 10 days or so…). Even when I was in Valdosta working open to close shifts at the department store, I definitely used a sick day to relax and clear my brain once in a blue moon.

I took one a few months ago but I normally end up doing something house related. I plan on taking one the first Monday in Feb. And there will be no cleaning, no wash and no cooking. DH has been warned lol

I took a mental health day last friday! It was SO nice….and needed! I couldn’t have gone to school and been any kind of focused. Break was calling my name and I totally needed sometime to unwind and just mellow out 🙂

I always wonder how your Pilot does it! I am glad that he has finally had some r and r time. Especially important before the Babay decides to come!

Mental health days are necessary whether it is skipping work or social/family obligations. The thing about them is you KNOW when you need one. Can’t ignore things like that!

That song just gave me a mental health 5 minutes 🙂 just what a mom with a teething baby needed!

LOVE the United State of Pop! Wow that was incredible! And I’m so glad the pilot is getting to take personal health days! My dad taught me from a very young age how important that was. If I was feeling overwhelmed or tired from school he’d let me take a personal day from school if I wasn’t missing anything important. I know not all parents would approve of that but he did it for me and I was so thankful, and I was top 10% of my class in all honors and AP classes so it obviously didn’t hurt my schoolwork! Everyone needs time to unwind!

Mental health days are amazing! This last semester I was bogged down with doing two different degree programs and trying to manage a small business on the side and I forced myself to take a mini mental health day every week. Every week I’d make myself a face mask, steam my face, exfoliate the rest of my body, sit in the bathtub and then moisturize with coconut oil. I’d set a gameplan for things that needed to be done for the week and address anything that was stressing me out. It was only a couple hours, not a full day, but it made such a difference!

I’ve been taking mental health days this year – it’s nice, no blackberry just books & TV!!! Nothing better than not leaving the house sometimes!!

The toast looks awesome btw! And I love the pupper pics 🙂

I did literally nothing all day on Saturday. I don’t think I got dressed!! It was so needed though… So glad you got some quality time with your pilot… you’re so lucky to have each other!

My boyfriend got a remote control helicopter too. He loves it! What is it with boys and remote control toys? Haha! 🙂

Our life is about to be much more chill. I quit my job last week. I’d been thinking about it since the kids & I got in the accident 4 weeks ago. We were truly lucky that no one had more than broken bones. It was a life changer for me. Also, it’s not like I can really work with a broken ankle. I mean as an exercise physiologist it requires me to be able to participate in physical activity of all sorts and I just can’t right now. The Dr was telling me it could be a couple of years before I’m back to being able to teach group fitness because of the ligaments that he had to reattach. So for now I’ll just do the stay at home Mom gig, which makes the homeschooling easier to do and work on rehabbing so I can eventually return to work.

That mash up is awesome! And i really want a day where i just do NOTHING. Like i want to be in my house or apartment alone, and sleep until forever, eat good food, watch tv, and lounge around without having to be somewhere at a specific time. Sounds glorious! 🙂

Looks like fun 🙂 I forget, when does the Winter Shape Up start again? I’m excited to play along this year 🙂

I was actually really proud of myself for not working over the holiday weekend!

Ooooh I’ve totally taken a mental health day and they feel so, SO good!! I am the type that likes to stay very busy, so getting myself to totally chill out and do nothing (no cleaning, no blogging, no blog post planning, etc) is tough! But I think we all need to do it once in a while. Glad you and the pilot enjoyed your day together!

We’ve been traveling for all of December and have been in paradise and are headed back to reality today. To say this trip has recharged my batteries and recentered me and helped me refocus and just…breathe is an understatement. It was so needed b/c I never take mental health days or skip chores, mommy duties, household chores, etc when at home so it’s been fabulous.

Glad you’re a believer in mental health days….me too! Glad Pilot had some R & R time!

Good for the pilot! I just took a mental health day two weeks ago. I teach full time and I’m getting my Master’s part time, and by the end of this semester, I was just fried. I took a Friday off to lay around the house, read my book, get my haircut, and spend time with my boyfriend. It was the best decision I’ve made in months!

I love mental health days! They are definitely important to keep your sanity. My last mental health day was probably yesterday… lots of relaxing, catching up on TV shows, and couch cuddling with the pooch!

  21. Carrie on December 27, 2011 at 9:48 am

Haha, my husband got me a remote control helicopter too! It’s pretty much the best thing ever!

  22. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on December 27, 2011 at 10:15 am

Awww, you hubs definitely deserves some time off! This is my time for relaxation as well since I’m taking two weeks off of work. Even though I’ve been filling my time with studying for the GMAT and housework, it’s nice to have one less thing on my plate.

    • Fitnessista on December 27, 2011 at 11:02 am

ohhh when are you taking the gmat?
it was so hard for me to remember high school math after 4 years of finance and business math. the test wasn’t bad, though

  23. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on December 27, 2011 at 12:02 pm

It sounds like the Pilot definitely needed a day off. Good for him!

I haven’t taken a mental health day in a while… first there were exams, then Christmas, and now I’m planning my parents’ anniversary party. I think I’m going to be needing one very soon! 😛

  24. Liz @ Southern Charm on December 27, 2011 at 12:05 pm

I have not taken a mental health day in quite some time … maybe a year or more? I can’t wait til year end because I fully intend to take a day off for me. (year end is our busy time).

    So glad Pilot got one!
