Fresh laundry = Bella’s favorite pillow

bella on the laundry

This is why it’s so much harder to put it away.. she just looks so comfy.

Hope you’re all having a happy Monday so far!

My last post could have used some text to go along with the pictures, but kept it wordless in the spirit of my Sunday night posts:

-I got my asana handed to me in Bikram. It was my first time practicing in a little over a year, and all of the poses that I used to feel pretty good about felt just as good, and all of the ones that have been impossible for me (like toe stand!) are just as impossible.

(I try to do toe stand and my hips and quads laugh in my face, so I stay in tree pose instead)

We took class at Yoga Vida from Shelby (who was fantastic) and treated ourselves to Whole Foods smoothies afterwards. I haven’t been practicing power yoga or Bikram lately because it’s a HUGE time suck –by the time you get to the studio, take the 90 min class and drive home, it’s 3 hours- but since we had no plans, the Pilot told me to go enjoy a class while he took Livi to Trader Joe’s and Walmart.

-Our new goldfish’s name is Fred. The Pilot won him at the fair Saturday night and he was looking a little worse for wear Sunday morning, since he was in the tiny murky tank they gave him and we hadn’t bought food yet. After intense googling, I gave him a couple of smashed peas before I went to yoga and the Pilot picked him up his Las Vegas fish club, food and water. The LED lights change colors and make the most amazing light display on the nursery ceiling- way better than a night light and Livi loves watching her little goldfish swim around.

-The quinoa cookie dough (from Whole Foods) is just as amazing as it looks. I was wondering if it would be grainy, but it’s not at all. There’s no way it’s going to see the oven- it tastes too good out of the freezer.

-Yesterday was prep day for the week, and here are some of the snacks I made:

Kale Chips

 kale chips

Cheesy Zucchini bites

zucchini bites

(using the cheesy kale chip coating- I’m excited to see how they turn out!)

Chicken salad

chicken salad

(Shredded rotisserie chicken, mayo, Dijon, dill, onion, carrots, celery, sea salt and pepper)

Quinoa and lentils

quinoa and lentils

(I’ll make this most weeks- about 8 servings of quinoa mixed with a pack of TJs pre-cooked lentils. Perfect for salad topping, wraps, grain burgers, or mixed with veggies and egg)

Dinner last night was a classic:

 salmon and veg

Grilled veg, salmon, sweet potato

This morning, we’re going to take it easy. I woke up feeling a little under the weather, but I’m going to attribute it to allergies and make myself a green juice.

Hope you have a great day!

See ya later with a Fashion post 🙂

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What yoga poses are the most challenging for you? The beauty of yoga is that it’s just a practice- some days are easier than others and there’s no such thing as perfection. I always count the seconds until chair pose is over. What snacks are you enjoying this week?

Something to think:

Just did your “take 10 to stretch” video this morning and it was lovely!

You have the best looking kale chips, everytime I see them I think I am in love with kale!!

  4. Lindsey @ Sound Eats on April 23, 2012 at 11:58 am

I feel like we’re on the same page – salmon on the agenda for din tonight, pre-made quinoa and pre-chopped fruits and veg yesterday, and I have been craving hot yoga lately. Can’t wait for this week (finals) to be over — got a groupon for MBody (20 classes for $59!!! steal!) and plan on reveling in hot yoga glory over the summer. 🙂 Wish you were here to enjoy MBody with me!!

Hey Gina! I just stumbled upon your blog and I LOVE it. I also lost 40 lbs from my senior year of high school till my first years in college, and kept it off by changing my diet!

I got a 2 week bikram yoga pass and you bet I took advantage of it. I went almost everyday. The most challenging pose for me is the one where you bend forward and are balancing your whole body on your hands, with your legs tucked under you. Your knees are resting on the back of your triceps. Not sure what it’s called, but it was twice as hard in bikram yoga because I kept slipping, if you know what I mean!

But my favorite has to be eagles pose, or tree pose!

  6. Sarah A. on April 23, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Oh and the other day I went to Trader Joes, and they were giving out samples of cookie butter on rice crackers. It tasted beautiful. So I bought a jar.

  7. Stephanie @ Legally Blinde on April 23, 2012 at 12:06 pm

Aw, it’s so cute that Livi loves watching her fish!! I never would have known that you could give goldfish smashed peas – very interesting! Any yoga pose that involves a lot of upper body strength is challenging for me; I’d love to be able to do more arm-balancing poses. At the last yoga class I went to, the instructor transitioned into split crow pose seamlessly – so inspiring!

I hope you can get some rest and that you feel better soon! PS I’m eating a salad beast as I type this – sooo yummy 🙂 I’m really glad I started incorporating amazing salads into my diet after being inspired by yours – thank you!!

  8. Averie @ Averie Cooks on April 23, 2012 at 12:08 pm

It’s only 9am and you have me craving kale chips 🙂

That yoga pose is such a tricky one…balance, the hip opener/knee stuff, and then I have the tightest arches in my feet so it always gets my arches more than anything!

  9. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on April 23, 2012 at 12:10 pm

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve never been flexible. AT ALL. Needless to say, 99% of yoga poses are difficult for me lol. I’m working on the flexibility thing, but it’s definitely slow to come. I’m really really interested in the quinoa cookie dough.

  10. Shelly on April 23, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Any balance poses are tough for me. Pigeon is also a killer. But I LOVE warrior poses. I kind of love to hate them when I’m doing them, but I really feel like they are a good all around toning pose.

My new snack for the week is this edamame and green pea dip. It’s delicious with tortilla chips and I’m in the process of making some bread to eat with it later.

Gah! What is it about pups sitting on fresh laundry! Haha. It’s really sweet, and I don’t want to move my dog, but I know she smells and I don’t want my clothes to smell! haha.

    • Jen on April 23, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Cats too, but with them it’s that there hairs now on your freshly clean clothes. I know cats love heat and so that’s why they love the clothes from the dryer, maybe dogs like the warmth plus the clean smell!

  12. Kate @ get up and flow on April 23, 2012 at 12:28 pm

My dog does the same thing — queen of the laundry pile! It’s hard to kick her off…she’s obviously so comfortable! I’m not a Bikram girl, but the hardest yoga poses for me are ones that require holding onto a straightened leg. Still working on my hamstring flexibility!

  13. Amy@healthyhungryhappy.com on April 23, 2012 at 12:29 pm

ohhhh so many yoga poses are hard for me haha its embarrassing. my legs are just sooo tight from running so much and (im pretty sure) not stretching near enough as i should. im gonna try to keep on the yoga though bc i think itll help!

  14. Andrea P on April 23, 2012 at 12:30 pm

Do you put any seasonings in your quinoa/lentils or just leave them plain?

  15. abby @ Change of Pace on April 23, 2012 at 12:32 pm

    Quinoa cookie dough sounds amazing!
My pup, Harold, does the same thing with laundry. It is tough to shoo them away when you know they’re so warm and cozy!

  16. Claire @ Live and Love to Eat on April 23, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Toe stand, of course, and crow – I seem to be able to do it at home but never in class!

  17. Melissa (Better Fit) on April 23, 2012 at 12:37 pm

I love that message- don’t let the moments of happiness you’re waiting for pass you by. Beautiful.

In terms of snackage- I’ve definitely been into popcorn with fun toppings lately. Chili powder and parmesan is a great spicy combo!

  18. Jessica on April 23, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Crow pose is impossible for me! I can never get that one down!

  19. Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola on April 23, 2012 at 1:11 pm

Bella does look so cute atop all of that laundry! She probably likes that it’s warm and cozy! And that yoga pose looks intense! I have a hard time not comparing myself to others in yoga, even though I know that it is a practice. How cute that Livi now has a little goldfish! How crazy about the smashed peas! And please report back on the zucchini! Those look delicious!

  20. Anna @ The Guiltless Life on April 23, 2012 at 1:13 pm

Yum, love the idea of a quinoa-lentil mix. Speaking of, I love the idea of a quinoa cookie dough too!

I definitely find yoga classes over 1 hour too much of a time suck. I do enjoy them if they’re interesting enough, but honestly I tend to choose 1 hour ones because you’re in and out, and when teachers know it’s just an hour they tend to make them as intense as possible so you still get a good workout in! Love it.

  21. Ashley @ Sweat for Sweets on April 23, 2012 at 1:42 pm

There are just SO many things I love about this post:

    1) that you named the fish “Fred” – how classic
    2) the prospect of trying that cookie dough
    3) the IMPRESSIVE prep work you did! do you do that every week? what an inspiration! how long does that take you?!

As for the yoga, I’m terrified of doing head stands for fear of snapping my neck, so I refuse to even try them!

I hope you start feeling better 🙂 Apparently oil of oregano works like a gem!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2012 at 11:16 pm

      thank you!
it only took a little over an hour. i try to prep as much as i can on sundays for the week, since it’s so crazy over here

  22. Hillary on April 23, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Bikram and I have a love/hate relationship—good for you for getting back into it!

  23. Talia @ Bite Size Wellness on April 23, 2012 at 2:58 pm

My pup loves fresh laundry too. An excuse to delay chores for a few minutes. 🙂
Your snack prep looks so good! I’m intrigued by the zucchini bites.
I keep getting better at crow but have yet to conquer it. I know that is yoga 101 but some much “harder” poses come to be easily and crow continues to dominate me.

  24. Sonia the Mexigarian on April 23, 2012 at 3:57 pm

if there’s a mound of fresh clean laundry on the bed, you bet one of my cats (or all three) is going to be on or in the pile. and then they stare at you as if challenging you to remove them from their “bed”.

and i am planning on using my bikream yoga pass before it expires in june. eeps.

  25. Sonia the Mexigarian on April 23, 2012 at 3:59 pm

quick question, what kind of dehydrator do you have? and do you recommend it over an oven when cooking kale chips??

  26. Kerry @ Totes My Oats on April 23, 2012 at 6:26 pm

Those zucchini bites look like they will be yummy!

  27. Lori on April 23, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Gina…Love your blog, it inspires me daily. I do Bikram 3x a week…I love rabbit, cobra and most of the poses. For the life of me I can’t do the pose where you put your head to your knee while sitting…lol. I’m so not flexible…but I’m getting there! I just started in January and found that lifting, running, HIIT is so much better because of the added flexibility and proper breathing from yoga.

  28. Jenny on April 23, 2012 at 6:52 pm

I made these this weekend and they are so delicious! Maybe you could use gf oats? http://www.thedailycrumb.com/2011/12/27/no-bake-banana-almond-cookies/

  29. Kelly on April 23, 2012 at 7:03 pm

What section of wholefoods did you find the quinoa cookie dough? It looks so yummy!!

  30. Jill @ Jill is Active on April 23, 2012 at 9:12 pm

Crow is always super challenging for me. I never feel like I’m putting my knees (or legs) on the right places on my arms. However, it’s the most rewarding because it feels SOOO good when I can hold it.

Snacks for the week are {homemade} maple almond butter with apples and {homemade] sweet potato hummus with veggies. Both are so good!!

  31. Sara on April 23, 2012 at 10:35 pm

FIXED FIRM!! about halfway through and afterwards i feel like i’ve lost blood circulation in my legs. >_< i love hot yoga tho!

    • Fitnessista on April 23, 2012 at 11:13 pm

this whole time i thought it was “fixed fern.” haha

  32. Krystina on April 24, 2012 at 12:00 am

I don’t think I’ll ever be a fan of chair pose, but I’m learning to appreciate it more. And warrior III makes my legs shake so bad.

  33. Ilana on April 24, 2012 at 12:11 am

ugh i have been having the time of my life with that toe stand, all my favorite teachers are obsessed with it right now (it’s fiery and grounding, perfect for springtime). my balance is so not having it. loving half moon pose lately though. arm balances as always. my teacher worked us through galavasana, koundenyasana, and tithibhasana today in an amazing flow and i looooved it. i’m sure tomorrow will be a different day and i’ll hate and love something else.

apparently we’re on the same wavelength because i just whipped up some cheesy kale chips for tomorrow….can’t wait to eat.

  34. Julie on April 24, 2012 at 1:56 am

I was once able to do toe stand. Not sure how possible that is anymore…

  35. Patty on April 24, 2012 at 2:02 am

Toe stand and I are not friends (yet), but I’m a boss at balancing butterfly! I’ve been really into standing half bound lotus lately. Fingers crossed I can move onto sage half bound lotus soon 🙂

  36. Vicky (Sweet and Healthy Living) on April 24, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Ah! I am addicted to kale chips and dehydrated veggies right now! I just can’t seem to get enough of them! Aren’t they good? 😉

  37. Alex on April 24, 2012 at 10:10 pm

Would love to know what section of whole foods you found the quinoa cookie dough! Need to hunt it down next time I’m there.

  38. sandy on April 25, 2012 at 1:55 am

i prefer triangle over crescent moon, which is pretty much torture for me due to my super tight lats. Day 38 done of my 60-day bikram challenge!!!

those kale chips look so yummy!
